Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
Air Force has a point about the difference in preparedness they have compared to any other non academy school for the stare of the season. I must agree that Houston and Minnesota don't appear to be as overwhelming as they are making it. Who knows what can happen with Oklahoma State between now and 2015. Maybe the Mayans were right and its not important.
Army has a lot of uncertainty in their future schedules, but begins with teams like Eastern Michigan, Ball state and Northwestern.
Navy starts with teams like Ohio State, Maryland and Baylor.
Wait, Ohio State, aren't they usually the best team mentioned so far in this thread (unless you count U.of S.C 1978)?
That's true, it's not a level playing field. Don't agree to be a cupcake, if the payday ain't worth it to you. Or, Coach Troy could try to pull an "Appalachian".
Here's the thing. I don't care if your team is in the top 30 or bottom 30. Come the 1st game of the season or last game of the season your team is playing somebody. Even the best teams have to play another team for the 1st game on their schedule. Some teams draw the short straw. So, either get your team ready, which includes convincing them they can beat anyone, anytime, anywhere, or make excuses as to why they weren't and they didn't. What ever you do, keep to your commitments, or lose respect. Just a thought.
The ancient Mayans that predicted Earth's demise in 2012 somehow seemed to miss prophecies of their own obliteration...
Although I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic though, Zac. :-)
To avoid hijacking calls though, I really give the Academies a wide berth when it comes to pretty much everything in CFB. These are kids that are playing ball for a few good memories before shipping off to one of who knows how many Hells on Earth so we can enjoy the blessings of raving irrationally that "my dad/team can kick your dad's/team's butt!"
One of the things that makes CFB great is how chaotic and non-uniform everything is. Every team is unique, due to geography, fan base, and numerous other factors. Sometimes, these factors can hamstring a program. While when it comes to Game Day, they man up and play who they've got, IF the Academies are really hamstrung by lack of Summer practice (as they claim), then I have no problem with them getting some "Exhibition" time before bigger games.
While it really isn't cool to back out of previously scheduled dates, I say let them do what they need to do to have the prep time everyone else enjoys (if that is the real reason).
Perhaps they could just do some rescheduling so they could play Po-dunk State on the first games and move the bigger games to later in the season.
I do see both sides of this, but the Academies get a pass on this when it comes to Regan-Sponsored Whining...
Unlike those darned ancient Mayans. :-)
