Fanblogs.com: Air Longhorn to buzz OU-Okie State

  • Bama_Babe · 1 year ago
That is pretty funny, but a total waist of money. This will not affect the voters in any way. The argument can go on forever about which team is more deserving to be ranked higher in the BCS in order to play in the Big XII Championship game. Yes, Texas beat them head-to-head. Yes, Texas lost to Tech. Yes, Oklahoma blew out Tech. Who knows who should be ranked higher?

I think Texas students and fans need to worry about their team blowing out A&M tonight, rather than trying to persuade the voters. If they want to convince the polls that they are more deserving, they should put a beatdown on A&M. Apparently the voters who have Oklahoma ahead of Texas do not care much about the 45-35 win. They are looking at that Oklahoma team that completely shut down a very good Tech team. So why waist money on doing something that will probably just fire up Oklahoma?

Because if anything, I think this will piss the OU fans off - and players for that matter. It could get ugly in Stillwater Saturday..
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
They haven't had any issue with that, whatsoever, tonight...

  • Bama_Babe · 1 year ago
I wasn't saying Texas would struggle with A&M.

I just think the plane deal is a little too much..creative - but a waist of money.
    That's just my opinion, though.

Congrats on the win, however. And best of luck with the BCS..

Maybe the 5 million "45-35" signs + the plane will work in your favor......

    ;)
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
honestly, i think it will piss the sooners off and could backfire on them, which could be more than a waste of money. but i think its cool the way they are supporting the horns
  • Bama_Babe · 1 year ago
That's what I said in my first post.

And wow. I feel like a complete idiot because I spelled waste wrong. I swear I know the difference between the two....guess I've just had a little too much of something today..

Ya'll eat well! Go out there and just give it your best. Save somethin' for desert, though.

I'm rollin' with the Aggies and those 35 points. I just can't let that one pass me by. I'm wagerin' my wife's rich daddy's 3rd estate in Beverly Hills on the game. And, we're loadin' up the truck and we're movin' to .......... It's payday!
  • PittsburghTiger · 1 year ago
    Ouch, I guess 35 wasn't enough.

    UT looked pretty good tonight.

I hope USC looks even better Saturday against Charlie Cheeseburger!

way to go "Tommy!" Be sure you don't miss your shift at the 7-11. You'll need to pay The Man. Your wife's rich daddy prob didn;t get rich beetting on losers. My son went to USC so I'm not a hater. Just wise up.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Tommie T Next time, you might want to do a little research regarding matchup's prior to losing that huge estate. Are you really a closet Aggie? Come on Tommie wear Maroon and wave that terrible towel. Do you have a t-shirt that says sawd-em off back to back?
The Horns can beat the Aggs seven years in a row and we dont print shirts about it.
BTW The Aggies gave it 100% and played one heck of a game, They always get fired up for the Texas game and so does everybody else.
    Hookem-Horns
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Tomcat:

Yep, my ol' ladies rich daddy's really upset with me for losing that 3rd estate up in Beverly Hills. Contrary to what you saw - that Texas A&M team is horrible. Takin' nothin' away from Texas - but A&M was the worst team I've seen along with Washington State. I didn't see A&M do nothing at all. I don't care how good Texas is - A&M could have done a little bit more than that. That was just a whole lot more terrible defense coming from one of those awful Big 12 bottom feeders. I'll give credit to Texas for doing what they had to do. But, that coach at A&M really needs to go. He doesn't understand college football at all.

A&M is as much of a gimmie as the Citadel for Floirda, who are you trying to convince otherwise? A&M couldn't go one posession on either side of the ball without a penalty.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Now if they really wanted exposure of the plane and message, they should have flown it over the horns/aggies game tonight, 90,000 fans and a national tv audience, by waiting until Saturday, all they'll get is about 45,000 fans ( thanks to O States ticket policy ) and 15,000 empty seats, unless the State fans bring their sheep.........they should have thought it out before spending their money.....JMO :-)
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
On second thought, it might be a good idea, what if the aggies beat em again tonight, just a thought :-)
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
It said it'll be during College Gameday so it'll be in front of all the fans that show up early and everyone who watches the show (assuming the cameras don't make sure they don't get any shots of the plane, but i don't see why they'd do that, it has to be great for TV ratings)
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    You are right Ron
BTW I was at the game and it set a new attendance record, biggest crowd in the state of Texas 98,000+. Some guy standing next to me, not wearing orange or maroon- said he was a tOSU fan and came to see the rivalry. He said that we were all to nice to one-another.
BTW I saw someone holding up a sign that said- Its Thankgiving and OU still sux.

My favorite sign from the game was one that had part of it ripped off and said Javorskie Lane ate my other sign. Of course, I wasn't there so there were probably some good ones that I missed.

I see that 45-35 is popular, but I personally like 39-33, and for that matter how about 12-7 or 38-30?! Texas fans crack me up! If I hear another Texas Longhorn say Texas Tech cannot be considered for national championship while they are arguing why they should be in the race I will slap 'em so hard Bevo mooooos.
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
no one should say that the raiders shouldn't have a shot, they actually have a very good chance
  • raider_nation96 · 1 year ago
No one should say it, but this very blog and all the hype it is reporting is dismissing us gohorns1012. Don't know how one could understand this any other way. Can't say you settled it on the field with OU and leave Texas Tech convienently out of the equation when there is a 3-way tie in Big 12 South.
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
tech is not out of the equation, i'm just stating the contraversy beetween ou-ut. its unfortunate that the system is the way it is. if ou loses then tech, deservingly, will win the big 12 south
  • sooner12008 · 1 year ago
And if OU looses, Mack Brown should live up to what he says.. OU looses, they are out. Tech goes to Big 12 Championship and likely wins. Then they should leap to #2 in BCS definately ahead of Texas... Right Mack? thats what you've been preaching,,, head to head... 45 to 35... well 39 to 33 is just as good. Be consistent Longhorns, If you deserve to be ahead of OU with identical records then Tech deserves to be ahead of you. Moreover Tech would have a Big 12 south division crown, a Big 12 Championship, a win over Texas and only one loss,, How can Longhorn fan or coach possibly claim they should be ahead of them? I'm sure Mack will flip flop faster than John Kerry if OU looses saturday and this head to head argument will be gone.

  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
You're right Kev, rather they admit it or not......
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
what you say is true of course, and it's unfortuante that tech dropped so many spots after the game in norman.  my earlier posts even notated that tech is still alive and just as deserving as the other two. i was just simply laying out the facts and the "bodies of work " by each team
  • bevo ed · 1 year ago
Raider nation conveniently forgets how close lowly Nebraska came to beating Tech AT HOME! Just be glad you won the game against UT. It made your year. But that;s about it. Try and be more capable when you play with the Big Boys. Tech slipped by Texas and then beat OSU. WOW. Two games in a row. Then after a week off gets killed by OU. Texas Beats Arkansas, OU, Missouri, OSU and then at the end of 7 straight weeks of football, loses to Tech on the last play of game. Let's just see where the Bowl Committees send Texas and where they send Tech. Happy Thanksgiving.
  • raider_nation96 · 1 year ago
So Bevo Ed is a fan of the BCS this year. Makes sense for a "talk out of both sides of the mouth" Longhorn fan. I didnt convienently forget anything sir. Change the subject all you want, but we won all of our games except one, just like OU, and Texas. Be thankful for the following this year:
(1)Texas and OU football programs have been better in past years,
    (2) Texas and OU lost earlier than Texas Tech

because those 2 factors are the major criteria for our situation, not 45-35.

I know what I am thankful for! No matter how many phantom penalties waved orColt "Jesus" McCoy comeback drives we still beat you and that may have to be enought for me. Nice seeing some folks out here have a voice of reason
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
I think it was actually somewhere around 65-21(is that right?) that decided it for Texas Tech, not their history. How can you argue you deserve to play for a national championship when you get blown out by 40+ points?
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
How can you argue we got a fluke win??? No one is saying we deserve to play for the N.C., but if that is the case you do not either. You are arguing yourself in circles bevo boy, because that is what it is.....a circle. It must be nice to pick and choose your way through facts. I am not soon to forget the Texas game where we dominated in total yards, total defense, total time of possession, and most importantly TOTAL POINTS. I felt quite satisfied knowing that we did not only conquer the mighty longhorns but we also conquered the mighty refs in that game. I still have not gotten an explanantion as to why they picked up that flag for block in the back on Shipley's pseudo punt return. I guess the refs thought since he scored they should pick up the flag. You should also tell your cornerback to hit the weight room so he could maybe tackle a grown man like crab.
  • mosforty · 1 year ago
Some advice for both teams; quit putting Nobody University on your non-conference schedule. It looks like OU's victories over Cincinnati and TCU are gonna be the difference maker. Maybe Sooner fans cant yell SCOREBOARD! but the can yell STRENGTH-OF-SCHEDULE!!!
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Well, first of all, I consider a fluke win to be one where one team got lucky to beat a team that is better than they are. Tech definitely played the better game, but needed help in the form of a dropped interception to win the game (I'm leaving out the missed tackle because, despite how bad Tech's kicking game is, I think they would have made that field goal). Texas played a terrible game (part of it was because of Tech, they deserve that credit), and still should have won that game. Tech by no means, however, dominated total points; they had to score on the play of the game to outscore Texas.

If your thought is that any loss makes you ineligible to win the NC, then I guess you think that Utah should play Boise State for the NC, because there won't be any undefeateds from a BCS conference, IMO. My thought is that Tech proved that they don't deserve to play for the NC because they were destroyed by OU by 40+ points, whereas Texas got beat by Tech on the last play of the game.
  • NMLSooner · 1 year ago
If you wanted 45-35 to decide the conference championship you should have handled TT
  • LacerateKane · 1 year ago
I sometimes wonder if the NFL has it right. Scores are meaningless except against common opponents in tiebreakers and Vegas. It's about the 'W' (dubya).

If NCAAFB had a playoff, would people (fans= fanatics) still cling to the regular season season scores? It's all about MOMENTUM. Example: If the Cowboys beat the Giants twice during the REGULAR season, what makes you think they could win in the the post-season? Pick a more deserving team from a (perceived) stronger conference/division for a playoff opponent. Patriots (undefeated) CRUSHED the 'Pokes = Pokes CRUSHED the Giants - 2X! No way Giants have a chance. Impossible! On top of that, the Giants can't even win their own division! They have no chance.

If NCAAFB had a playoff, would the controversy dry up? Dunno. Personally, I like controversy. I realize these kids are not professionals ('cept for Miami - j/k :-) ) but might we just abandon the regular season? I doubt the Cowboy fans are beating their chests that they beat the SB champion Giants 2X in the regular season.

Guess I'm just thinking out loud... err, I mean online. What'cha guys think?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
This arguement has resurfaced multiple times on this forum.
We could however institute a playoff type format using the existing bowls
This would not diminish the importance of the regular season
Then fans could gripe and complain about who's #8 or #9 instead of who's #2 or #3
For example so far this season 08
    Bama 11-0
    Texas 11-1
    Fla 10-1
    OU 10-1
    Tex Tech 10-1
    USC 10-1
    Utah 12-0
    PSU 10-1
Take the top 8 = 4 big bowls round 1 played between teams that have not faced each other
then winners face off round two 2 big bowls

2 teams left Nat Champ game- so everybody is happy- except maybe Boise and perhaps the Big-E champ and ACC champ so there would still be contraversy and debates

what a polite blog! respectful banter about college football. good to see. texas looked great tonight. oklahoma looks great. i hope my boys (ttu) get a shot at redemption like ut and ou got.

so, if we ever get a playoff, are they gonna stick ut, ou, and tt in the same bracket? kinda like the end of the season, huh? hopefully, that won't happen.

how bad ass was it that ut and aTm played for our soldiers? and aTm with the 4th ID patch! i "hate" aTm as a tech fan, but as a soldier myself, mad respect. thanks!

When the BCS champion holds up the crystal football in Miami on January 8th, it will be for 2008 season champion, not November 2008.
I do appreciate the Sooners taking TTech out of consideration for the game in Miami.
Now that we are down the Sooner and Longhorns, its 45-35.
  • WestCoaster · 1 year ago
I don't understand that logic. Why does 39-33 merit no value? It's not logical to take the OU beatdown on Tech to eliminate Tech from the South equation when that same Tech team beat UT. The BCS isn't a buffet where you get to pick-and-choose which games are valid. A decision must be made based on the whole platter presented.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    Westcoaster Whats not to understand?
This is CFB aint no fairness involved
for example 06 Oklahoma vs Nebraska XII game two teams that lost to Texas
07 OU beat Texas Texas beat Texas Tech Texas Tech beat OU OU goes
08 Texas beat OU Texas Tech beat Texas OU beat Texas Tech
Texas beat OU 3 outa the last 4 years
Texas beat TTech 3 outa the last 4 years
shouldnt the best team be represented, if Tech beats BU then they can play Missu- Texas already beat them, they done beat BU and OK st and KU so they can go ahead and have their champ game Texas has already played those teams and won

I think some fans like to shape history; TAMU has beaten UT 2 out of 3 yrs. I guess thursday was a fluke. Let's not count it. Or at least not as much. Let's just count the ones that benefit ones argument.

Auburn has won 6 of last 7 from Bama. Obviously they're the more talented team year in year out. Todays win was a fluke. Fluke! Fluke, I say!

Hey raidernation I've been saying Hookem-Horns and Sicem-Bears for years and I also like the Rice Owls, Yall's vicory over the Horns was the biggest game and greatest win in the history of the Texas Tech football program. Had Texas won that game it woulda just been another win over a top ten team-no big deal, thats just the way it is for Texas fans. Cling on to that vicory for as long as you can, because its been a long time coming. I actually pull for yall when yall play OU or in a bowl.
BTW In last nights game 10 minutes left in the 4th- Mack Daddy put in second string, Freshman and let some seniors get some playing time- That wont happen with Leach or Stoops who like to run up scores and pad stats and get so-called style points.

Guess head to head matchups are not really important anymore
we can just look at polls and style points against commomn opponents and throw out games played between two teams during the same season on neutral ground, because some fans etc- have memory loss or are in denial.
What I saw was two great teams battle it out on the feild and there was a definate winner. So now several weeks later- lets forget that?
OU aint beat OK st or Missu Texas has OU lost to Texas
TTech hasnt beat BU or Missu Texas Has TTech lost to OU

But I thought UT's 45-35 win over OU trumped everything?
No UT LOST to TT, WHO IS ALSO TIED WITH OU & UT for the south division title.
So that's why head to head doesn't calculate?
    Correct.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
Horns seem to forget they were dominated in that game in every stat category, so you are saying we did not have a bad day agasint OU, or OU did not have a bad day against you in dallas??? GET OVER yourselves, you do not deserve to play in the big 12 championship game any more than TECH or OU. Hey hrposon, were you slipping back when we beat you 39-33??? You should maybe start making signs that say 45-35, then a asterisk below it and place the score 39-33.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I agree that TTech should go to the XII champ game and play Missu- Texas whuped Missu- OK St beat Missu
The BU Bears lost on a last minute feild goal 31-28 against the Tigers.
Check this out- 3 way tie in XII south
Tech get past Bears-Texas already beat them
Tech get past Missu-Texas already beat them
OU get past OK St- Texas already beat them
Texas Tech was humiliated by the Sooners at Norman
Texas beat the Sooners by ten points in Dallas
Texas lost a close one in Lubbock and have never been dominated or whuped by anybody both Texas Tech and Oklahoma have. Texas Tech by Oklahoma and Oklahoma by Texas.
If Texas Tech somehow gets past the Bears and Tigers they will be the third best 1 loss team from the south and they can go to a good bowl, but those games havent been played yet. Texas has already beaten both of those teams- funny how yall forget that.
Oklahoma gets to play the Cowboys- ya Texas done beat them too- Sooners havent
Texas regular season is over 11-1

Uh, co-#1 team in Big 12 South. Drink some more Burnt Orange Kool-Aid why don't you? This is one ridiculous argument, in fact gotta be the most ridiculous to date. Just get over yourselves already. Sometimes I wonder how you Horns sleep at night after the Bevo dung you sling around. Pretty sad if Texas Tech wins today, Texas stays at #2 and plays in Big 12 championship, then goes on to play Florida in NC game and win (not that it would) while Texas Tech falls to Cotton Bowl to play Ole Miss cause we dont deserve to be ahead of OU in the other BCS game. Then Texas Tech would have a shot at being the team that beat the National Champions and the team that beat Ole Miss, who in turn beat the Gators.

Are you serious??? How is that argument even close to being as ridiculous as this one by OklaJoe: "So what if Texass beat OU in October......could they do it now?????"

That's why you play the regular season, to see who is the better team. OU just has no way to win the South outright, so he's (can this be considered a valid argument) arguing that OU is better now?

Is Tomcat's argument still that ridiculous? Look at what he's up against
  • NMLSooner · 1 year ago
So, UT just beat OU, but UT just had a bad day against TT. Well isn't that convenient. Head to head only works with 2 heads. This one has three. Don't believe me? Who wins the division if OU loses to OSU? I believe it is TT, and I don't think the excuse of having a bad day will work.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey NML I have never made any excuses- I call it like I see it.
I thought that the Sooners played an outstanding game in Dallas. Don't you agree?
Texas Tech has a good team and they can on occasion win a game at home against a good opponent.
Do you believe in homefeild advantage and mometum- you should the Sooners have 2 losses at home in 9 years.
Who were those two teams ? TTech & OSU- I cant remember maybe TCU- doesnt matter
I've been watching OU and TTech games this year, you probably have too. I saw TTech whup SMU, great game- they whuped that team from the bottom of C-USA impressive.
I also saw them bareley get past Nebraska and Texas A&M
This year I saw some great CFB games and you got to remember to dance with the one that brung you.
For example TCU got behind early against OU and changed their gameplan, went from running to passing and it got worse for Pattersons Frogs. Same thing for Leach's Raiders on the road- hostile crowd got behind, couldnt get anything going and it got worse.
I'm glad the Sooners had TCU this year and yall finally beat them and its about time yall beat the Raiders too- congrats
Its kinda funny because every year Sooner fans try to compare competition like last year we beat Miami and yall didnt play anybody- TCU they aint nobody, now this year thats yall's signature win. head to head last year OU beat Texas, Texas beat Texas Tech and Texas Tech beat OU----- now this year Texas Tech beat Texas and Texas beat OU and OU beat Texas Tech
Looks like there are some tough teams in the XII south and Texas has won 3 outa the last 4 against OU & Tech

Uh Tomcat that wasn't a signature win against TCU?? What exactly was texas' "SIGNATURE" non-conference win??? exactly UTEP? Rice maybe??
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    Texas beat TCU last year
Had Arkansas this year,an SEC opponent that beat the Nat champs not a MWC school from Ft Worth- Colo on the road, thats right the same Colo that beat yall last year.
Funny that last year yall beat Miami who finished 5-7 and that was bigger than UT's win over TCU
Rice is Bowl bound and just beat Houston.

Probably re-thinking that comment now. Elitist knucklehead. That loss looms so large for you its sickening isn't it? That "just another win" over a top 10 team would have put you in KC. Nice try but that one stung and you know it!

Why a playof wouln'y work (there would still be pissing and monning as, TOO ( who got in etc who had to play who first, &where time of day the reasons a lot of guys would still find excuses as to why their team got beat or screded and findly when all else fails THE OFFICALS.)

I'd rather leave out someone because we are arguing who is #16, than argue who is #2.

I personally see this 3 way tie as a 2 team race between texas and ou. Both teams are for real in my eyes and have 5 star players every year.Im going to give texas the edge because it is head to head, all we do is complain that we dont get our teams to settle it on the field now that its been settles no one cares. Finally if ohio state was 11-1 no one would care being that they have stunk up the joint wait a minute so has ou...lsu,usc,west virginia, bosie, kansas state. I guess it doesnt matter cuz as much as i hate to admit it flordia is going to win it again.

I love it this is a great CFB season and a total BCS=BS mess the way it ought to be.
wonderful year for the XII- especially the south
looking at the BE against the XII
UConn over BU really close BU shoulda won
OU over Cinn OU whuped them
Colo over WV that same Colo that lost to FSU,UT & A&M

tomcat, i think after today the big 12 shows its flaw. mizzou gets its 3rd loss today and gets to play for the big 12 crown when two of the three1 loss teams in the south have to watch from home sic-em, hook-em

I find it interesting that Mack Brown said "it would be really classless of me to sit here and say they are not great teams." In effect, saying that it would be tacky to campaign in saying his team is more deserving. Well, interesting that he would take that approach this year when 4 years ago he had no issue campaigning like hell for the Rose Bowl berth. Thanks for the lesson on class, Mr. Brown...

Westcoaster- your right and he also said that his team deserves to be in KC and Will Muschamp said I'll put my boys up against anybody
BTW did yall ever get those hippys out of those trees?

    Tomcat:

After two years of eating nothing but treebark and pinecones - the treehuggers finally came down about two months back. Rumor has it that they were so hungary that they headed for their nearest Black Angus and wolfed down as many cattle as humanly possible. I guess that living like hamsters for long periods of time, can turn even the most avid treehugger, into one of the most ferocious carnivours this side of a primitive T-Rex.

Thanks Tommie T Hopefully the cattle market can rebound, right now is a good time to buy cattle, feed is sky high and we are currently in a bad drought.

Not this year longhorns. That was a waste of money, sorry, didnt help. Good luck next year.
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
what is dizzou08? are you a mizzou fan or an ou fan....doesn't matter though we beat both of you , and know matter what happens in the bcs today, texas will either be in the bcs bowl or the fiesta bowl and be gunning for 5 straight bowl wins, including 2 rose bowls. thats a good bowl record , better than any othe big 12 team lately...texas brings the crowds and brings home the wins.. why don't you have a look at other big 12 teams and their previous bowl records.

i was really impressed with OUs offense against okie state. but their defense did not play as well as everyone has been buiding them up to be. those baylor bears will be tough the next few years, griffen reminds me of vince. bottom line , 2 big 12 teams from the south will get the shaft today and 1 will be sent to play a 3 loss mizzou

Saturday nights game in Stillwater was just a show of which two universities could buy the best Texas talent. As usual, the team from Norman had the best Lone Star players. Okla St. had 15 starters from Texas. wonder where the other seven were from?

I am an OU fan. Thats for sure. I think the name gives it away. I do feel the pain from Texas and Tech. I feel great about the B12 CG, and great about a NC berth, just hope they play like they want it this time. But answer me this, won or lost badly, who wouldnt want to have been in three NC games in the last 8 yrs. I hope we represent the Big 12 well in Miami. Boomer Sooners!!!!!!
