Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
NFL recruiters, have a field day!
I find it hard to believe Saban scheduled a team dinner at Lucky Chang's, but its perhaps some sort of improper behaviour at the dinner?
Would've been so apropos...
Most of the wires say Saban suspended him for unspecified rules violations. ESPN says that it was for illegal contact with an agent. Usually, offensive lineman get charged with holding instead of illegal contact...
But somebody had to, right? ;)
Anyways, I am bummed about this news. Andre has never been in any sort of trouble, so this was a surprise that he, of all people, would be suspended. Still waiting to hear all the detail about it, but my sources said it deals with an agent.
What the hard thing to swallow is, not one starter failed to qualify for the bowl game because of grades. I was very proud of that statistic, as some in the past have had to sit out. So a late suspension like this kinda stings. Hopefully it won't be a distraction for preparation though..
Yes, this is a huge loss to the offense, but I am not that concerned about the run game. I still think Coffee and Co. will run for over 100 yards. If any of you watched the Auburn game, you would have seen McElwain favoring the right side instead of the obvious left side run. Therefore, we can run behind Marlon Davis and Drew Davis if necessary. I still believe the line-minus-Andre will provide for some holes. What I am concerned about now is the pass protection...
Andre Smith = best blind-side pass protector you can ask for.
John Parker - Andre = not such a good situation..
LG Mike Johnson may very well move over to LT, and he's done an outstanding job this year. So maybe there will be no worries....
;)
Not to rain on your parade...But...Are you hearing that it may not be an isolated incident?
(Don't shoot the Messenger!)
The last thing Alabama needs is an NCAA probation.
Haven't heard that, and hopefully I won't...
Bama334 did all the shooting that was necessary..
;)

Sure it doens't matter what team you favor, but I won't take you seriously if you won't claim a team. Why post on a college football blog if you don't identify the school you root for? To bash others who state their OPINION of a game? That's all my Coffee and Co statement was. My opinion. Obviously I was wrong, and I will admit it. I was never on a high horse and never gave you a reason to believe it. I didn't make excuses like you state below because that comment was BEFORE the game. So your "AARP" crap doesn't apply to me.
By the way,
I said Coffee and Co - Andre Smith = 100+ yards.
I didn't say Coffee and Co - Andre Smith - Mike Johnson + early 21-0 deficit = 100+ yards.

Of course, they're no strangers to forfeiting games because of ineligible players, right?
What is a berkmar anyway? The reason that Andre Smith is suspended for the game, is because if they play him in it, they will draw infractions from the NCAA for whatever the conduct of Mr. Smith was. Alabama has no choice. He has illegally contacted an agent. End of story and end of his career. Alabama will just move one of those youngsters like Mr. Love into the starting lineup. It doesn't make too much difference. Like Ben had said: it'll probably mean that Coffee runs for 150 rather than 175.
And since its not for a NC im pretty sure big ole Andre will get over it while counting his millions next year.
The bright side is he wont risk an injury on a meaningless game.
Then I laughed and drank even more Utah kool aid.
With a win I'll be on cloud nine for at least 9 months.
That's 3-0 with Oklahoma State being completely manhandled by Oregon in the 2nd half. That OK State team looked like one of my tight bros tryin' to beat me in Madden, by throwin' nothin' but bombs, while I'm hangin' in a 3-2-6 Cover Four. It was not a contest. Sure, OK State got lucky early, but like I told you, Oregon just physically punished that team for the whole second half. I doubt if any of them thar Cowboys are gonna even be able to walk for a few days. Man, did Oregon put the wood to those guys. Next up: Pittsburgh gets their collective butts handed to them by Oregon State.
They played the game with their 4th and 5th string QB's, as their first three QB's were all injured earlier in the year, and Masoli has come on to be a real good QB. Boise would get demolished by that team today. Oregon had lost both Dixon and Stewart - and that is quite a bit to replace early in the year. Blount has become an exceptional RB and will be a very high draft pick for some pro team. The guy reminds me of Bo Jackson. I actually think that he may be better than Jonathan Stewart was. If he comes back next year - Oregon is gonna be a Top Ten team for sure.

This is in today's paper. Since he has already been suspended for the Sugar Bowl, he has nothing to gain by making this statement.
