1 down, 84 more to go...

NFL recruiters, have a field day!

I've gotten a slew of e-mails about this...

I find it hard to believe Saban scheduled a team dinner at Lucky Chang's, but its perhaps some sort of improper behaviour at the dinner?

Thank God Ms. Pentecostal McSkankland wasn't around with her NYT reporter and her son's "spicy" English Papers, huh, Ron?

Everyone knows you serve up English papers " bland "
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 11 months ago
It's true: TE tried to pawn this story off on someone else. We weren't having any of it...

Most of the wires say Saban suspended him for unspecified rules violations. ESPN says that it was for illegal contact with an agent. Usually, offensive lineman get charged with holding instead of illegal contact...
  • Mr2Bits · 11 months ago
Better than getting flagged for "Givin him the business".
  • Bama_Babe · 11 months ago
As soon as I opened this thread, I scanned down to see who posted it. My reaction: He would....

But somebody had to, right? ;)

Anyways, I am bummed about this news. Andre has never been in any sort of trouble, so this was a surprise that he, of all people, would be suspended. Still waiting to hear all the detail about it, but my sources said it deals with an agent.

What the hard thing to swallow is, not one starter failed to qualify for the bowl game because of grades. I was very proud of that statistic, as some in the past have had to sit out. So a late suspension like this kinda stings. Hopefully it won't be a distraction for preparation though..

Yes, this is a huge loss to the offense, but I am not that concerned about the run game. I still think Coffee and Co. will run for over 100 yards. If any of you watched the Auburn game, you would have seen McElwain favoring the right side instead of the obvious left side run. Therefore, we can run behind Marlon Davis and Drew Davis if necessary. I still believe the line-minus-Andre will provide for some holes. What I am concerned about now is the pass protection...

Andre Smith = best blind-side pass protector you can ask for.
John Parker - Andre = not such a good situation..

LG Mike Johnson may very well move over to LT, and he's done an outstanding job this year. So maybe there will be no worries....

    ;)

    B_B,

Not to rain on your parade...But...Are you hearing that it may not be an isolated incident?

    (Don't shoot the Messenger!)
  • Ben Prather · 11 months ago
Wouldn't suspending a star player for boarder line questionable behavior regarding an agent send a strong signal to the other players to not have any contact with an agent?

The last thing Alabama needs is an NCAA probation.

    BANG!!!! BANG!!!!!

Bama334, this may be the best picture on fanblogs, is it directed at anyone special...........;-)
  • Bama_Babe · 11 months ago
Umbrella is up, hair is frizzed...thanks.

    Haven't heard that, and hopefully I won't...

Bama334 did all the shooting that was necessary..

    ;)

Yeah, it might be the difference between a 175 yard day and a 150 yard day.
  • kennybee · 11 months ago
"i still think Coffee and Co. will will run for over 100 yds". Sadly, you people think that the world begins and ends with you," Bama". Utah is not the best team in the country week in and week out, but they smoked your arrogant asses out the door. Wake up, figure out what you do poorly, not what you do well, and work on it.
  • Bama_Babe · 11 months ago
Please direct me to where I said the world begins and ends with Bama. Please tell me how in the world you have any credibility to come on here and say how Utah "smoked our arrogant asses" and tell me what to do.. Who are you again???? I'm sorry, I don't show any respect towards drive by posters who don't show their team in either their name or picture ...
  • kennybee · 11 months ago
BB sorry, but I am an objective cedible (how in the world you have any credibility?) blogger who just reads and responds. Does not matter what team I favor, you plain messed up girl, Coffee and Co. did not ramble for 100+, and so you gotta face da music, you done called it wrong. Get off your high horse and 'mit it. Or not, cuz you're bammer.

You have no credibility because you are not a regular poster. Ask the other posters on here if I have any credibility...

Sure it doens't matter what team you favor, but I won't take you seriously if you won't claim a team. Why post on a college football blog if you don't identify the school you root for? To bash others who state their OPINION of a game? That's all my Coffee and Co statement was. My opinion. Obviously I was wrong, and I will admit it. I was never on a high horse and never gave you a reason to believe it. I didn't make excuses like you state below because that comment was BEFORE the game. So your "AARP" crap doesn't apply to me.

    By the way,

I said Coffee and Co - Andre Smith = 100+ yards.
    I didn't say Coffee and Co - Andre Smith - Mike Johnson + early 21-0 deficit = 100+ yards.
  • kennybee · 11 months ago
BB, forget the credibilty issue, ain't worth fightin over. All in all, the Bama fans have been unreal gracious in defeat. Little whinin, but mostly admitting they simply got spanked on both sides of the ball. I am certain that part of the admission is due to Utah being outa conference, since there ain't no love lost within the SEC. Good luck next year, sorry bout Andre.

BB, I gotta admit, you are a good, no, great Bammer fan. Hell, America crows about the SEC right night now and it is a strong conference. But when SEC or more specifically, the Tide or the Dawgs or the Gators get spanked, you people go to your AARP list of excuses, instead of saying, dawg-gone, we got spanked....

Wake up, smell the coffee, kick butt, and when you get kicked, say "damn"....

this is crap, this is andre smith's last game and you suspend him, how bout some ole fashion desipline and run him until he pukes, that way you get the point across to the whole team and you don't hurt the whole team for one man's mistake.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 11 months ago
What would be even bigger crap is if Alabama were to win the game with an ineligible player, then be forced to forfeit or vacate the victory later. I wonder how the rest of the team would feel about that scenario?

Of course, they're no strangers to forfeiting games because of ineligible players, right?
  • Bama_Babe · 11 months ago
Yeah, it sucks that this happened - and to Andre especially - but Saban handled it correctly. You can't just run him when he was involved in something that is against NCAA rules. Remember probation? Yeah, THAT sucks. WEA is right....the last thing we need is an Antonio Langham repeat....
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
    berkmar58:

What is a berkmar anyway? The reason that Andre Smith is suspended for the game, is because if they play him in it, they will draw infractions from the NCAA for whatever the conduct of Mr. Smith was. Alabama has no choice. He has illegally contacted an agent. End of story and end of his career. Alabama will just move one of those youngsters like Mr. Love into the starting lineup. It doesn't make too much difference. Like Ben had said: it'll probably mean that Coffee runs for 150 rather than 175.
  • AUtigerman · 11 months ago
I personnally dont think it will make a huge difference in the outcome of the game

And since its not for a NC im pretty sure big ole Andre will get over it while counting his millions next year.
The bright side is he wont risk an injury on a meaningless game.
  • Bama_DevilDog · 11 months ago
This loss of Andre WILL make a huge difference in the outcome of the game. Look back to the Tulane game. Bama had no offense. Moving the line around, left Alabama helpless to the Green Wave defense of Tulane. This loss handicaps Bama, especially in the passing game. JP Wilson pass protection is now into question. If it wasn't already.Utah should lick their chops and bring the heat. I'm scared to death. Bama is in for a rude awaking when a hungry defense steps on the field. You should all get ready for a close Ball game.
  • crimsonroll6 · 11 months ago
Bama has taken a huge loss for the sugar Bowl game. However, we had adapted without smith and cody this season. Our focus, determination, and teamenship will endure in this upcoming game. Our boys have a lot to be proud of and not many teams have the history like the tide. Even on probation we were able to hold as a worst 6-6 season and a real good 9-3 in 2005. This is a set back, but we will continue to work under the adversity that we have had all season and take the game. ROLL TIDE ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • WarEagleFan · 11 months ago
I had a thought that maybe he did this on purpose so that he didn't risk getting hurt and affecting his draft status and there by risk losing millions of dollars... Any thoughts?
  • Ben Prather · 11 months ago
I was entertaining that thought last night, I mean what if Paul Kruger made him look silly out their? It might knock him down to a late first round pick.

Then I laughed and drank even more Utah kool aid.
  • WarEagleFan · 11 months ago
Drink it up Ben and bask in the Glory of the Sugar Bowl while you can...That is until the clock reads 0:00 then Cindrella will have to go back home and clean the toilet.....
  • Ben Prather · 11 months ago
A close loss, with victory snatched from our grasp would send me to the French Quarter apply a healthy dose of Proverbs 31:6-7.

With a win I'll be on cloud nine for at least 9 months.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
    Well Ben:

That's 3-0 with Oklahoma State being completely manhandled by Oregon in the 2nd half. That OK State team looked like one of my tight bros tryin' to beat me in Madden, by throwin' nothin' but bombs, while I'm hangin' in a 3-2-6 Cover Four. It was not a contest. Sure, OK State got lucky early, but like I told you, Oregon just physically punished that team for the whole second half. I doubt if any of them thar Cowboys are gonna even be able to walk for a few days. Man, did Oregon put the wood to those guys. Next up: Pittsburgh gets their collective butts handed to them by Oregon State.
  • OU_Fan · 11 months ago
The Oregon Ducks are pretty impressive. I am quite impressed with how well they have played this year especially with Dixon gone. I'm just curious as to how the Ducks lost to Boise State.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
    OU_Fan:

They played the game with their 4th and 5th string QB's, as their first three QB's were all injured earlier in the year, and Masoli has come on to be a real good QB. Boise would get demolished by that team today. Oregon had lost both Dixon and Stewart - and that is quite a bit to replace early in the year. Blount has become an exceptional RB and will be a very high draft pick for some pro team. The guy reminds me of Bo Jackson. I actually think that he may be better than Jonathan Stewart was. If he comes back next year - Oregon is gonna be a Top Ten team for sure.

I think that Andre Smith knows more about his life than any of the authors here.

    http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/birminghamnew...

This is in today's paper. Since he has already been suspended for the Sugar Bowl, he has nothing to gain by making this statement.
  • BamaBorn · 11 months ago
Smith made it official on Saturday.
