Fanblogs.com: BCS Busting - Part III

  • Zac · 1 year ago
Not to mention, Ben, MI (who BYU played and beat to win the NC) was in a down year; finished 6-5, 6-6 following the bowl game against BYU. MI even led with little more than, 4 minutes was it?, to go in the game. As unimpresive as it was considered to be, BYU still found a way to win. Isn't that what champions do?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Everything was all screwed up back then! Good thing they have fixed it with the BCS system.
  • Cougar_Fan · 1 year ago
ha ha! yeah! well, for people who want to see the BCS change, I'm sure getting BYU into the championship game would make things change.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
It might just change the conference they're in. PAC-10 expansion anyone?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
My answer to that is pending tomorrow nights game...

Wow, still a lot of ifs, but it makes me wonder about the system. If USC can win the rest of their games they might have a chance at the BCS championship game. if BYU wins out (and Utah, until BYU game), then BYU will probably have a win over a top 25 team (TCU) and a top 5 team (Utah). USC would have a win over a ranked team (Oregon), and a top 5 team (OSU). BYU will have won a conference which at the least is as strong as the PAC 10 and will not have any loss. hmm.... That seems like a double standard to me.

For Tech here is my scenario for them making a BCS bowl.(Of course considering they take care of business and don't pull a Tech!) The games in SERIOUS QUESTION are kansas on the road, Texas at home, and A&M on the road( I don't care who they lost to, I consider it a huge rivalry, throw everything out the window). I did not include Oklahoma on the road because I consider that an auto-loss. Stoops has only lost 2 games at home in his tenure, and as far as I am concerned that is one of the most impressive stats in college football history. Assuming we take care of business in all of the trouble games and then lose to Oklahoma on the road, we then would need Oklahoma to win the big 12,beating, I am assuming,Missouri in the title game. I believe we would then recieve an at large bid over Missouri. I have been to our last 5 bowl games, and let's face it is some of the most unbelievable drama filled comebacks anyone has ever seen. With one loss on our resume I believe we would get taken as a one loss team. But that is just what i have cooked up in my head.......

One thing is for sure and that is: nothing is for sure. We saw it last year and it's started already this year. It appears to be the new trend..lol. I guess you could chalk it up to Murphy's law: if anything can happen, it will. Personally, I think it adds to the excitement of the game. Even after playing your last game, and with others still underway, your future isn't certain. Last year was a prime example. Some would say that this is why a playoff is needed. And I, for one, would love to see a playoff. But it is nice once and a while to see the smaller schools make it. Sorry OU fans, but one of my favorite games was Ok and Boise St a couple of years ago. Now that was entertainment.

I am praying to God and hoping that BYU plays for the National title.

Then, I guess we'll find out what God's opinion of Mormons is, won't we?

*It's just a joke. Don't take it seriously*
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
You can joke about someone's religion BUT if they mispronounce your school you get angry and wanna give them the silent treatment? Which by the way I don't mind if you respond to me are not! I might be a jerk on here BUT at least I don't cross the lines when it comes to people's religious beliefs! I wonder what your LSU "buddy" have to say about respect now?

It's long been known that GOD favors Notre Dame (they get every call and every break). Since he's looked down so kindly on that program - how much more so yours? You should be praying to the GOD's of the Utes and Horned Frogs. Those are the GOD's that might do you in.

How are you linking to a specific post?

I haven't done my research on this disqus format at all, so any tips that you've picked up would be nice. Thanks.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I remembered that 4cornerz was not a MWC fan in the past and clicked on his name to research his past posts to determine who he had supported in the past.

Upon finding this comment I noticed the little "jump to" in the right corner of the listing on Disqus. Clicking it the page was indexed to that comment, so I copied the link from the URL bar into the impending post.

Tabbed browsing would make it easier if you had started your comment already.

ALSO: If you mouse over the time a post was made it will give you the comment # for a reply in the lower left of most browsers. This can be used directly to link to a comment.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Very clever. I had not noticed the jump to link. Thanks for passing on that knowledge.
  • 4cornerz · 1 year ago
Yes I did. But that had nothing to do with God. God was out golfing that day. I probably had too much to drink that day. Well, I am keeping hope alive with UCONN and USF. I Have a dream where UCONN, USF and BYU will crash the BCS. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
I'm sold on the fact that WVU is going to beat at least one of those two teams. UConn because we seem to have their number every year regardless of how well they do. Or S. Florida because we have them at home as our season finally, we are sick of loosing to them, and we have them in in the West Virginia mountains in december..I look forward to seeing the south florida michelin men...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Just hope you don't get South Florida next year in September.

Tyler Tech - Toss in the ole' towl on the "Brokeback Mountain" raiders. They are a dog and pony show. They will always be behind other priemer Texas programs on recruiting. And their coach is a smart mouth Bobby Knight girl. May be they'll get some creadibility the day they figure out how to beat MIZZOU instead of having their bottoms handed to them.
  • Mars · 1 year ago
This is hard to say. Would teams like Penn State and Texas really have to lose twice for BYU to pass them, when we passed USC, Georgia, and Florida after 1 loss? Or can a 1-loss team like USC which is currently behind BYU in the polls re-jump the Cougars as they beat ranked in-conference opponents (like USC-Oregon this week)?
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Mars:

I don't think it would take two losses for BYU to pass anyone - as long as they stay unbeaten. If Penn State or Texas lost even one game, old stereotyping would come into play, and those two teams might drop significantly in the voters polls. USC does not have the same stereotype. They are viewed as an excellent team and a great BCS bowl team. A one-loss USC could probably pass BYU (only if they win out). Some of the other great teams (if they only had one loss) that could beat out BYU might be LSU, Florida, Oklahoma and Georgia. If any other team were to suffer even one loss, and BYU stayed unbeaten, then BYU would stand a good chance of beating those teams out. But, the five that I've mentioned, would all have to lose two games in order for BYU to pass them. Penn State and Texas are not those teams. Texas could maybe fit into the one-loss catagory - but only if they win the Big 12 Championship with only one loss.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
You passed them for now. They are close enough that they will pass you if they win out. The teams listed as needing two losses would put them with those one loss teams.

One factor is that losses latter in the season are more devistating than those early on as you have less time to recover your image.

JB-Maybe you should also consider beating programs like texas and OU before you start talking so fast. Thanks for the drive by posting.

Badgers should be worried about the final game of the year, where they might sleep on the Div. I AA Cal Poly Mustangs and they could be this years Appalachian St.

    UPDATE:

Losses by Auburn and Wisconsin have put them behind an undefeated BYU.

Also, upon reviewing the BCS GURU standings last week and Utah getting past one of their larger hurdles, I am going to jump in with Utah's chances a week early. They appear to be the same requirements as BYU's. If the teams listed above all lose and Utah wins out then Utah will be in the title game. The difference is that BYU appears to have a higher chance of accomplishing this than Utah at this time.
