If Oklahoma and Texas both win next week the minuscule 0.0085 Texas lead could evaporate as Oklahoma State is significantly higher ranked than Texas A&M.

As teams tend to perform poorly in the rankings during an off week, Texas Tech could pass Utah and Georgia can pass Ohio State. With Georgia Tech being Ranked, Georgia could even pass Boise State.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Your math was a little off, but I think you may be right, depending on how the teams play in those games.
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
you could also argue that this game is as big of rivalry as they come and atm beat ut twice in a row. this is a big game for texas and a big win should keep them at #2. anyone in the big 12 can beat anyone in a rivalry just like tech did to ou last year, then a 2 loss ou won the big12...the truth is the title game sucks. the north vs the south. the to best teams already played and texas won. i wish they could play again but that wont happen. ou is definatetly playing their best football. but shouldn't the whole season count and not "whos playing best now" its hard to say on a bye week.....go horns
  • NMLSooner · 1 year ago
Yes, I agree the whole season should count, but not just for the teams you want it to count for. If OU had beat TT by 3, they are still a part of the discussion, but because OU destroyed them somehow their whole season doesn't mean anything. If UT should be ranked ahead of OU because they beat them, shouldn't TT be ranked ahead of UT? They have the same record as OU & UT. The head to head argument doesn't work with three teams. OU & OSU is a rivalry game, and OSU is ranked. I don't know for sure who it should be. but head to head should not be the argument, because of 10-1 TT.
  • gohorns1012 · 1 year ago
true but ut tt is a rivalry just like ut atm and ut ou,, texas is notorios for being hated or loved....tech just lost by too much and was never in the game ..texas won 3 straight with no byes and lost by5 in the last seconds an=fter coming back form more than 20, but i agree tt should still be in the mix..thay just lost too late in the season..ou is great as always and i think all 3 should get bcs..the north should not even be considered for the big 12 title...thats the screwed up issue

I agree with you 100%. I am not a Texas fan but fair is fair. This system needs to be revamped from the bottom up. They need a playoff and they need it BAD. Its not fair for two teams to have identical records but one team had their bad game earlier in the season than the other and the ladder gets knocked out of contention. With both teams having one loss, who can really determine which team is better? Thats why they play the game....to see who is better. Just imagine if other sports at other levels did that.....It would have been the Patriots and the Cowboys playing for the Superbowl last year when the Giants (a wild card team) beat them both because they got the chance. Something has to change....

So you are assuming that GA can stop that crazy run game of GT?
I normally would say yes, but with GA's recent struggles....IDK...I will watch it though to find out.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I didn't say they would. I don't assume anything, infact I tend to revile in the froth that upsets could stir up.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
I really thought OU was going to jump Texas, but I'm not complaining. BTW, will there be a thread about taking the number 2 spot on the all time wins list at the end of the season? At least, I assume Texas will be alone then at number 2 since Notre Dame shouldn't beat USC and Texas hasn't lost a bowl game with any player on their roster.

Utah UCG hopes: ( on life support in the ICU, with the morgue on call )

Utah needs all but one of these 8 scenarios to play out to have a chance at the NCG

    A) Alabama loss to Auburn. A loss to Florida would not knock Alabama below Utah, but a loss to Auburn followed by a win over Florida would make it very close.

    B) Texas loss to Texas A&M.

    C) Oklahoma loss to Oklahoam State. This would put Oklahoma in the Pack of teams between Utah and Penn State

    D) Florida loss to Alabama or FSU. If Florida loses to FSU then beats Alabama they will end up in the pack of teams between Utah and Penn State. Same if the games are reversed.

    E) USC loss to Notre Dame or UCLA.

    F) Texas Tech loss to Baylor. Winning teams often pass idle teams, especially when they are as close as Utah through Penn State.

    G) All of the above except at most two of B, C and F and Missouri wins the Big 12 Championship

    H) At most one of A, D and E; and at most two of B, C and F; and Missouri wins the Big 12 Championship

Ben - Maryland also has a chance for a BCS berth from the ACC.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
If Maryland beats BC they would clinch a two way tie with FSU at 5-3. FSU wins the head to head tiebreaker.

I don't see Maryland getting to the top 14 for an at large spot.

Hopefully the Buckeyes are Fiesta Bowl Bound!

Boise State BCS hopes: ( on life support in the ICU, with the morgue on call )

Boise State needs all of the following to happen:

    A) Florida lose to FSU and Alabama (Though losing to Auburn and Florida knocks Alabama out of the NCG it is not likely to knock them out of the top 14)

    B) Oregon State lose to Oregon or USC lose to ND and UCLA

    C) Georgia lose to Georgia Tech
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
If A and C occur or B occurs, expect to hear about how Boise State should be picked over Ohio State
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
Hey Ben, I've studied A for a few minutes, and I can't even figure out how that can happen.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I refer to "( on life support in the ICU, with the morgue on call )"

If Florida loses the next two they are out of the top 14, and not the team that any of us think they are.

I don't know about you guys, but I am sick and tired of all of this BCS crap. Every year there is some kind of issue. This year is no different. There is a chance that #3 Oklahoma could lose to Oklahoma State and #7 Texas Tech would play in the Big 12 Championship with #2 Texas having a chance to play in the Title Game without winning their conference or even playing in their conference championship game. How does that make any sense? This has been a debate for years about a team playing in the National Championship game without winning their conference. This is getting crazy and totally out of hand. College football is in desperate need of a playoff......That is the ONLY way to determine/crown a true champion.
  • TexasZack · 1 year ago
I think (and of course this is coming from a Longhorn die hard) that you have to value each of the teams victory over the other. Texas lost at Tech on the last play of the game. Tech lost at Oklahoma where Stoops has only lost twice. Texas beat Oklahoma at a neutral site by 10 points. If you take all that into consideration I think Texas has the most impressive one loss record. An interesting BCS theory floating around is that Texas should hope for an Oklahoma loss so that Texas Tech will play for the Big 12 championship, but even with a win they couldn't regain enough BCS points to overtake Texas to get into the National Championship. It will be fun to watch it play out, thats for sure.

SEC vs ACC, which is better for Utah?

This question has been eating at me.

    Florida vs FSU
    Georgia vs Georgia Tech

    Who should I root for?

SEC wins would knock FSU and Georgia Tech back out of the rankings, while SEC wins keep Utah's slim chances alive.

Further, these games have no bearing on FSU or Georgia Tech's BCS hopes. If Maryland upsets Boston College and Virginia upsets Virginia Tech then FSU will play Georgia Tech in the ACC championship, even if they both lose this week.

This scenario would be excellent for the MWC as it would knock the ACC, one of the BCS permanent members, out of the top 25. (Though the FSU-Georgia Tech winner would likely jump back in)

    Big East
    While I am at it...

West Virginia and Pittsburgh play each other, so one will lose. If the winner follows up with a loss to USF or Cunnecticut respectively and Cincinnati loses to Syracuse or Hawaii this could knock the Big East out as well.
