I'm confused....How come the Before and After PICS look pretty much the same???

Someone send these to ASU, Cal and USC...great photos, better idea.

All good things must come to end. This stadium stopped being a good thing a long time ago. Cool photos though!

While I 've been noted here at this site as a hard liner against the Canes move...

Two weekends ago I took a tour of Dolphin Stadium with a guy I know that works for the Fins...

I came away extremely impressed and think that DS is the best move the Canes could have made...

Short of an on campus facility...

The amneties at DS are top notch and the venue itself has a large capacity while still having a close feel to the action...

The Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre, The Nightwatch hangs in the Reichsmuseum, and Gator Fans Wearing Jorts hangs on Gatorhippy's profile. Classic, sir, classic! The ultimate in self-deprecating humor!!!

Oh yea. And Dogs Playing Poker hangs on my wall at home...

To think, all I got is a print from a DU banquet...
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
    To reiterate...

If jorts are wrong, I don't want to be right.

In truth, I'm wearing them right now. :-)

BTW, I've seen The Nightwatch twice. That is an amazing painting.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
But are you sporting a mullet AND a case of brew under one arm? I think not, pretender!!!!

The Nightwatch is a rather big painting as well. Took my time through The Reichsmuseum in Amsterdam, unlike in Paris, where when we hit the Louvre, we made a beeline for Mona, raised the camera to snap a few pics above the madding crowd, then promptly got the hell out of there...
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
No mullet here. My conservative-looking haircut hides the soul of a punk-rocker. Replace the case of beer with a fine bottle of single malt Scotch whiskey and there I am!

I've never been to the Louvre. If you make it to London, I strongly recommend the Tate Modern Museum. Even if you don't like modern art, it's a spectacular collection. Also, the collection includes Monet, so their definition of "modern" goes back to (at least) Impressionism.

Oops, I did it again! What was the topic? Oh yeah, The OB. I hate to see old traditions like this die. I recall the very similar looking destruction of the old sombrero in Tampa. The new stadium is nice, but I've lost my sense of nostalgia for the Bucs with the new unis and the new stadium.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
I've been a Bucs' fan from the git, but that creamsickle orange was nausiating--not to mention boardering on gay--along with a winking gay "pirate" that looked more like a three muskateer...it cracks me up to see these young punks paying top dollar for all this "neo-retro" buc stuff, so they can look all "old school" and what not; I've got a closet full
of it, and I'm happpy to let it rot.

...and the Sombrero...what a POS....as horrible as those bucs teams were, they're be some 40-45,000 fans at each of those games--just up to where the curves began--because beyond the curves, you couldn't see the field...it flowered out too much, you were too far...a lesser city would've lost the bucs a long time ago.

I smoked a big fat-ass cigar and had me some very fine Scotch the dayHugh Culverhouse croa...'er, passed on (..may he RIP).

    ...I never looked back.

Hey Ramblin at gar de Norde train station in Paris, they have the
Biggest rats, bigger than the ones in South Texas and lots of them.
Paris is also a good place to wonder around looking for directions that
nobody wants to give. I didnt go in the louvre, saw Napoleons grave and
that big church minus the hunchback.
Rome & Athens have alot more to see and do in my opinion and the folks were friendly and helpful.
BTW punk rocker-Na Were you at Randy's Rodeo in San Antonio when they through stuff
at the Sex Pistols? classic Moment in the history of Rock Music
BTW wonder who the idiot was who booked that gig?
    Cowboys + Beer + Punk Rock= #@$%&%
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I missed the Sex Pistols in San Antonio, though I didn't miss much as I wasn't a fan. I was more interested in The Dead Kennedys (back in the day). These days, it's Green Day and The Hives. I heard an interview with John Lydon (a.k.a. Johnny Rotten) who declared recently that the Sex Pistols were never a punk rock band. Whew! That's a relief!

Somehow, in all of my travels, I've never been to Paris, but I've been to the Orange Bowl - or what WAS the Orange Bowl. (Just trying to stay on topic.)
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thanks for the response, I've never been to the OB really kind of sad to see something destroyed. I think it is really difficult to try and categorize music. What the heck is "soft rock" for example today's mass produced commercial Nashville pop is not country music at all.Its bad rock with some fiddle and a guy with a black straw hat-whats up with that? I'm really not familiar with what is punk and what isn't. There was a band that shot a video here "The Clash" they shot scenes in front of some pumping units for their video "Rock the Kasbar", More like British Reggae than punk, purty good stuff. I really enjoy all kinds of music Honky Tonk,Blues,Reggae,Bohemian, Tex-Mex ,Rockabilly and Old Rock & Roll. We went to a club in San Marcos night and I was wearing pearlsnap shirt and my LBJ Stetson hat. The girl taking the cover charge informed us that its rock music tonight. We told her thats cool heck we like rock music and we've heard alot of really good bands at this club, guess she was trying to warn us because of our attire. It was alot of loud noise and hollering and spitting on each other, like a bunch of devil worshipers or something. Guess I'm showing my age or something, but we just couldn't get into it at all.Heck the guitarist and drummer had talent, but there wasn't any beat or rythum, just a bunch of loud junk.
Over the years we have listened to alot of live music, but we didnt stay for the headliners that night, after the first two bands we left. I've seen Johny Winters,Judus Preist, UFO,Rainbow, Jethro Tull,Scorpions, B.O.C.,Rush,Mountain,Who,ZZ Top,Nazareth, Foghat,Humble Pie,Bad Company,Allman Brothers etc etc over the years and enjoy rock music but I guess things change. site of one of the best weekends of my life..my Clemson Tigers beating Nebraska for the the 81' National Title..then lucking out and scoring two 40 yd line tickets to the famous Dolphins/Chargers playoff game the next day..not to mention the miscellaneous partying in between. I'm 51 y.o. now..but will never forget the Orange Bowl..Miami..and the good times.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Somebody help me get this straight. With the Orange Bowl going bye-bye, Miami only has one stadium left and it's called Dolphins stadium, but it used to be Pro Player Stadium and Joe Robbie before that? And the Dolphins play in Dolphins stadium but so do the Marlins?

And now the University of Miami (Florida, not Ohio), which is actually in Coral Gables, will play in Dolphins stadium for their home games? So where are they going to play the Orange Bowl? I guess in Dolphins stadium, like they've been doing, right?

So where are the Heat again???
  • Regan · 1 year ago
See, WEA? 'Canes = Orange Bowl. Simple. Now we have to keep flowcharts...

1Tomcat...I think that Dolphins Stadium is a lot better than the Orange Bowl. i have never step foot in the State of Florida BUT from what I see on TV Dolphins stadium from the design all the way dowm to the playing surface looks better than the Orange Bowl. As for gas prices...the non-sense prices are here to stay. Take care!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey Lennie & Zac Ya I know a guy that has a used Dodge, when he filled it up his vehicle doubled in value. I stole that joke and others from Larry the cable guy. My fuel cost equal my utlities cost and I don't go anywhere.
I really don't believe that fuel cost will hurt attendance in this area, we plan on attending the Wake Forest vs Baylor game in Waco, Texas. I have Chevrolet crew-cab PU that gets 19 mpg on the highway, we will avoid Austin & IH35 saving time and gas by running north on the less traveled 2-lane blacktop. Sure you have to go through the little towns with red lights, but its actually faster and safer than going through the city {Austin}on the interstate.
This game will be televised on ABC, so it would be alot cheaper to stay home, however its just not the same. Its actually alot cheaper to attend a game in Waco as opposed to Austin.
The tickets to BU games are 26 or 28 bucks and you can get tickets at the stadium on game day. Texas has had like 47 consecutive sellouts and if you can acquire tickets in advance its usually the ones in the visitors section that were left over and the face value is 75 bucks for most games.
Programs with alot of success will result in alot of attendance and the revenue that it generates. The new north end zone will result in new attendance records for UT.
Its too bad that the Orange bowl administrators did not have the vision and forthought to reinvest in their infrastructure. You would think that a team with multiple Nat Championships would generate enough revenue, guess due to management problems that the authorities in charge just lacked the proper planning and vision to remodel or rebulid in that location.
It kind or reminds me in a way of the Hemisfair arena in San Antonio, built in 68 then expanded in 77 then torn down after the Alamo Bowl was built. Why beats the heck outa me?

The OB was city-owned, and I believe the city wants to build a new Marlins stadium there. And this want of a new baseball stadium was before kicking the "U" out. The "U" wanted renovations, and other stuff to extend the lease, but the city didn't want to give up anything, or pay for renovations. Miami's multiple championships, and revenue from those NC's, had nothing to with the OB. While the OB and the "U" will always be married in the annals (that's TWO "N's"; not "anals"), they were two wholly separate entities. The authorities in charge of the OB, and the powers that be at the University, as far as I understand it, were not the same.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Interesting post, TC. I wonder if I can break free and get down there for a BU home game?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Ya Lennie Gas prices are so high that the Price is right had 7 gallons on the showcase showdown.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
TC, if you buy a Jeep, you're guaranteed gas at $2.99/gallon for five years. To think, less than 4 years ago, gas in this area was around $1.75. The sad thing is this: With so much of the average "Joe's" disposable income now going into gas, it will not only put a hurt on those who once could afford to drive to the games, but it will seriously hurt those who may have otherwise afforded tickets to games. If we don't get a handle on this quick, we may no longer need complexes like the Orange Bowl. No one but the rich could afford to visit. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think there are enough of them to attend all the games to keep em going.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thats pretty sad when 3.00 a gallon is a good deal. Why on earth is gasoline $1.00 a gallon cheaper in Mexico than the U.S. ?The Mexican government owns all the Oil royalties and controls everything much like Great Britain who's fuel prices used to almost double the prices in the U.S. Great Britain has an extensive passenger rail service also owned by the government British Rail.
Why is gasoline cheaper than diesel when it cost more to refine gasoline?
Since everything we purchase is transported by burning diesel. The inflation caused by fuel prices will be detramental to everyone except those stock owners who claim that their profits only increased by 8%.
Buy a foreign built moped and support the one day boycott.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Besides the ride to Joe Robbie, I mean Pro Player, I mean Dolphins' Stadium...what the problem is? Gas prices are a (I ain't gone said it)! The Hurricanes fans should have seen this coming. How long has the BCS game with the same name has been played at Dolphins stadium. The fear of change is what is really happening hear. The Houston Astro fans got over the Astrodome, the Detriot Tigers fans got over Tiger Stadium, the Pittsburgh panthers fans got over the old Pitt stadium, and the New York Yankees will get over the most noticable stadium known...Yankee. Boston Red Sox fans will get over Fenway Park some day cause it's time is coming soon. What i am getting at is that these teams are now about the money! More teams, College and pro are gonna do whatever they can to bring in mo' cash! When the Hurricanes are back competing for National Titles...the Old Orange Bowl will not be even mentioned. The old Cotton Bowl is coming to an end soonas well!
  • 40AcresOfBurntOrange · 1 year ago
I agree Len it really is all about the money these days which is really sad. It will be a sad day once the ole cotton bowl is finally gone. I have been to Florida several times and have ahd the opportunity to see a football and baseball game there. It is a very interesting experience. It is a pretty nice stadium. Even though the cowboy's new stadium will be one of the best in the world it just won't have that same historic feel like the original Cotton Bowl.

I never went inside the Cotton Bowl but from the outside it looked run down to me. I never been inside Texas Stadium for a game but I went in it for our sister church in Dallas/Fort Worth 10 Year Anniversary and it was hot! The glare from that old style artificial turf made it worse. I cannot see why the city of Dallas wants the old Cotton Bowl? the Cowboys new Stadium will get Oklahoma and Texas soon. I wish they would play in Norman when Oklahoma is the "home" team but I doubt that. The Hurricanes fans will forget the Orange Bowl once Miami is winning there in Dolphins Stadium. Take care and I HOPE the Celtics will end it tonight!
  • 40AcresOfBurntOrange · 1 year ago
It is pretty run down, but the stadium has been around since 1932 and the city of Dallas hasn't exactly been keeping it up to standards over the years. OU and Texas pretty much had to force them to make renovations and improvements in order to keep the shootout there a couple of years back when they were setting up the new shootout contract. The area around Fair Park is very bad and rundown. I actually worked that area when i was a rook. Im rooting for them Celtics as well, i would love to see KG, Pierce, and Allen get a ring cause they have been through the pain of being on mediocre teams that lose consistently. Kobe already has 3 rings. It's not looking so good right now 88-76 in the 4th, hopefully Boston can rally, but i wouldn't mind seeing the Celtics win the title in Boston in game 6. Take care

Sounds like "greenhouse effect" to me. Al Gore was right; we need to tear all the old stadiums down.

The OB was unique; a one of a kind place to play or watch any sporting event.

I consider myself very lucky to have been able to make the trip to one 'Cane game down there, even though it was the last one.

It is an absolute crime that the city couldn't get their act together to renovate and preserve this place as a landmark that has touched so many people over the years.

Oh wow, this is ,..................a little depressing.

I hate the thought of playing at Fins stadium. I grew up going to the OB, this sucks
  • 40AcresOfBurntOrange · 1 year ago
Always sad to see such a historic stadium gutted and torn down. Any plans for a new stadium or do the Canes plan on playing at Dolphins Stadium forever? After seeing the boom of building new baseball and football stadiums it would be interesting to see a brand new college stadium. I know that Bright Networks Stadium (UCF) and Gerald Ford Stadium (SMU) are fairly new, and a new Minnesota Gophers stadium is in the works, but just imagine a brand new 100,000 seat stadium with the backdrop of the Miami skyline for the Canes. That would be pretty sweet.

Rice has a big stadium and even hosted a super bowl.
If you have any news about Rice stadium let us know.
  • 40AcresOfBurntOrange · 1 year ago
Hey T-Cat isn't Rice's stadium actually the Houston Texans stadium? I think that is so dumb whenever a college football team uses a professional football teams stadium as it's own. I think Pitt and USF do the same as well. Especially when it's a school that barely draws a crowd except when the big time teams come to town. Kind of liek how the Texas rangers don't really get a big crowd unless the Yankees or Red Sox are in town. At least the Texas vs Rice tickets are cheap!

Hey 40 Na Rice U has Rice stadium which seats 70,000
It was host to a Superbowl.Rice stadium is located in downtown near the university. First game was Sept 30,1950
Rice has played in Reliant Stadium on two occasions both were Texas games, It probably had something to do with big money?
Reliant stadium has beer concessions, nice place. We went to one Rice vs Texas game there one time, kinda felt sorry for the Owls 04 maybe
