  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 12 months ago
AND WE'RE SET!!!!! All the college football bowl games have been announced. The updated schedule is posted online.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
    Woo hoo!
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
RG, will you be going to the game ??
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
Not sure yet. I'm spending the holidays in Texas, so I will definitely not be attending the Chick-Fil-A bowl, but I might be going to the title game.

Will you be going? Maybe we could hook up and eat some oysters? :-)
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
I don't know, depends a lot on how our business is going, machinery sales are almost at a stand still..........if things are still slow, probably not, I'll probably stay and see if I can make someting happen.........Oysters sure sound good though..
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
If I can get a good seat, I'll probably go to the game. I just checked stubhub and they only had endzone seats available. I'd rather stay at home and watch the game on my plasma or go to a good sports bar.
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
I think the travel agents have snatched up all the good seating, travel packages are being sold around here at $ 2,000 and up, actually I was thinking we would go to the Cotton Bowl a few games ago, honestly never thought we would be in the big one, I only hope we show up....
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
RG, OU has sold out it's allotment of tickets as of noon on Monday, travel agents are gonna get rich....
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 12 months ago
No, they're not, Ron. There aren't any more travel agents. They've all been made obsolete by the internet, but thanks for reminding them of that just in time for Christmas...

    Scrooge!!!!!
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
    Bah hum bug
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
I checked TicketsNow earlier today. Decent seats (belween the 20s, nosebleed level) were going for about $1K with service charge. Great seats (between the 40s, mezzanine level) were about $2400. Add in a night in a Miami hotel and 500 mile roundtrip. I'll have to ponder whether or not I want to part with that kind of cash.
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
Same here, tickets are $ 1,000.00 plus around 2400 mile roundtrip.......think I'll watch it in HD on a big screen..
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
RG, Stoops as a Gator, that just ain't right....
    http://www.gainesville.com/article/20081209/NEW...
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
LOL! I was one of those who wanted Stoops to replace Spurrier - instead we got the Zooker.
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
RG Sounds like hot=peanuts & cold 99 in front of the big screen $29.96 for Shiner +$ 3.99 hot peanuts
Plus at the house you can mute those commentators and that iratating boomer-sooner music- not to mention grinning ex-coaches LOL
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
AW come on TC, anything has got to be better than I've been working on the railroad....;-)
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
Thanks Ron- I looked at the link you provided, does look kinda funny- How bout Brown at OU-cant even picture that one.
BTW Eyes of Texas is usually right before and after the game- the others like Texas Fight which is a sped up version of taps is played alot
The song has evolved and is more tacky and distasteful as ever- used to be givem-hell go horns go has been replaced with OU sux-its unofficial, but now these young kids probably think thats the real words
LOL- Texas A&M has the best band and songs IMO
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
TC, thats why Brown is a good coach, he studied at the best and under the best, IMHO....LOL
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
    Here's one for you, TC:

    http://www.jamd.com/image/g/1783174
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
Yep, this is looking like an easier decision with every passing minute...

2 tickets to THE game, or...

    A 60" flat panel TV

Thanks for the reminder - I need to pick up a case of Shiner 'tween now and then.
  • Gator_Babe812 · 12 months ago
i would kill to go :-( but i knew our boys would pull it out, it'll be the crystal football this year baby
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
Should be an interesting game. Judging by the Sagarin Predictor ratings, UF should be about a 2 point favorite and maybe 3 since the game is in Florida. It's really difficult to judge since the two schools have never played each other and share no common opponents this year. The key matchup should be the Gator's defense against the Sooners offense and vice versa.
  • Gator_Babe812 · 12 months ago
OU isnt gonna be able to score 60 points against a defense like UF the reason they have been so successful in the big 12 is because of the lack of defense overall in the conference in my opinion they are in for a rude awakening.

I believe it will be a good game but UF will most likely win
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 12 months ago
You wouldn't consider offing a certain Sooner who lives in Austin who used to post on here, if you could use his ticket, would you?

    j/k...
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
    LMAO
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
WEA I dont think that he is really a Sooner, just happens to live in a Burnt Orange world and not happy with the enviroment.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
OYSTERS?!? Hmmmmm... Planning a little "R&R" in addition to the game?
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
    Sicko! ;-)

Ron mentioned he liked oysters after I published my gumbo recipe here in the off season. I remembered this specifically because OU_Ron is the only Oklahoman I know of that likes oysters. Also, as many people don't like oysters, I'm always looking for people who enjoy them in case there's an oyster bar nearby.

Now if I can just get that "R&R" image out of my head I'll be okay.
  • Mr2Bits · 12 months ago
I think Oysters are an acquired taste that most people don't give a chance. I'd never miss a 25 cent oyster night at Calico Jacks. Little horse radish on a cracker and you can't go wrong. I just need to find a new hole here in Tampa that can feed the need
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
Add a little dash of Tobasco and I'm there!
  • Porcine · 12 months ago
Ever since Police Acadamy I am a little leery of oyster bars.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
That was a BLUE oyster bar...

    :-)
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
I still like em RG, in fact you need post another seafood recipe in the off season........a good time would be when Kevin posts another Fashion thread..;-)
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
Done. Next Fashion thread, I'll publish RG's seafood paella.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
I wuzth'nt referring to Ronny, ya thavage.

By the way, I recall having tried a shrimp recipe you posted. Primo!!!
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
    Thanks!
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
Hey RG ever been to Water Street Oyster Bar in Corpus Christi ?
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
As a matter of fact, yes I have. When my wife and I were dating, my in-laws lived in CC and Water Street was their favorite place to eat. We went with them a couple of times while visiting the parental units. My father-in-law likes oysters too. Back then, he liked them more than he liked me!
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
Thats purty cool, cant get any fresher
If I could live my life all over- it wouldnt matter anyway
cause I never could stay sober
    on the Corpus Christi Bay
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
There are quite a few matchups outside of the BCS that I'm very interested in.
    My top 5 are:
1.) Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl
2.) LSU vs. Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl
3.) North Carolina vs. West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl
4.) TCU vs. Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl
5.) Oregon vs. Oklahoma State in the Holiday Bowl
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
One of my bottom ones is FSU vs. Wisconson. I don't want to watch Badgers anything, of all the teams in the big 10 this one comes right before Minnisota for teams I could care less to watch. I think I'll consider another close bowl not involving my team. Chick-fil-a maybe (easy daytrip)... Maybe Gator (closest) I think that will be a good game with Nebraska and Clemson at similar levels at the momment, I think Clemson will win though.
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
I'm not very interesting by FSU vs. Wisconsin either. I think the 'Noles will take that one rather easily. I agree with you about the Big Televen; they typically bore me as well. However, I will be watching Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State, and probably Michigan State this year. That's a lot more than I usually watch. The Gator certainly provides an interesting match up. Nebraska scores a lot and gives up a lot of points. We score less and don't give up much at all (save the FSU game). That game is a bettors paradise but I won't bet on Clemson 99% of the time. It should be a good one to see, and I'm looking forward to finishing the season with a win.
  • Husker_Chris · 12 months ago
CJ, I'm also very intrigued by this match up. Clemson clearly has the better defense, but Bo has improved the Huskers markedly from last season (not saying very much thanks to Calli & Co.), but I think the Husker offense is clicking pretty well at the end of the season. Should be a good game. Will you be there? If so is a drink in order?...
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
I want to be there, and I have tickets. However, there's a small family matter that has come up in the last few days that may prevent me from going. I'm not at all happy about it and am trying to get out of it, but it's not looking too promising at this point. If I do go, I will certainly let you know, and yes, a drink would certainly be in order. Best of luck to your boys, but not too much.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
FSU/WI makes absolutely no sense to me. I would rather have seen FSU/OR or FSU/Cal; even FSU/AS would have been better (JMHO). WI started OK; then, have since disappointed. I'm actually surprised they got an invite.

I like Joe's picks, but I'm also curious about AL/UT, Cinci/VA Tech, KY/ECU, GA/MI St, and strangely enough Buffalo/UConn. It's refreshing to see a program on the rise, like Buffalo; UConn has a couple of good wins, and is actually a decent team...when they show up for the game.

As for the over-all bowl picture, there's just something about Michigan NOT being there...
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
HAHA you remember the insight bowl a couple years back. We came back from 35 points! We are very entertaining to say the least in bowl games.
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
    OK st vs UO
    TCU vs Bois St
    TTech vs Ole Miss
    West ILL vs Rice
    UT vs tOSU
    Minn vs KU
    N Western vs Missu
    Iowa vs S Car
Sorry BE fans but the only Cinn game I saw was OU - blow out
The only UConn game I saw was Baylor-real close game down to the wire
The only WV game I saw was a loss to Colo
  • Zac · 12 months ago
It's all good, TC. There weren't nearly enough games featuring WVU this year, that were anywhere near as good last year. Happens that way some times.
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
Zac I really didnt get to watch much BE games and the 3 that I saw The BU@UConn was a real good game, BU shoulda won- Thats a 4-8 team from the XII- We try to watch BU games when we can and they had 3 real close ones, that they coulda won UConn, Texas Tech and Missu or they would be 7-5.
Always next year The BU Bears could compete in the BE, but they are in the XII south are real hard division
    Adios Tomcat
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
How well do ya travel Ole Miss??????
  • Hotty_Toddy · 12 months ago
Mr. Harrell, i'd like to introduce you to Peria Jerry, Jerrell Powe, and Greg Hardy. They'll be making your imprint in the field on Jan. 2nd.

    ............ :)
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
    You going????
  • Hotty_Toddy · 12 months ago
Probably not... I went to the one in 2004 and it cost over a thousand bucks for the entire trip once everything was said and done.
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
Darn. My pops just booked everything. Funny story is that I told him after last night that he could go ahead and do it because we were def going to the cotton bowl. He replied you never know with this BCS crap. I cracked up.
  • Hotty_Toddy · 12 months ago
Unless my dad decides here soon if he wants to go or not, then I'm not going. I'll go with him, but I ain't making that trip alone.
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
You should pull the trigger and come!! Were staying at the anatole, but Im
sure the rebs have their own command post in mind.
  • Hotty_Toddy · 12 months ago
Well he's really wanting to go. So we'll have to see.
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
    Cinci vs. VT.....
I think I just threw up in my mouth.
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
Come on VT isn't that bad!! Heh. Cincinnati such a storied football program, one of the oldest losers around. I have a few Cinci alums as friends they do not even know thier football team did well!
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
Lol. I thought they were making NCAA tourney bids when I saw Cincy!!!!!!
  • Zac · 12 months ago
Nope. Bobby Huggins is at WVU now. Hasn't been at Cinci for 3 seasons.

I still don't understand the issue with Cinci. Their program may not be as prominent as MI's, NE's, or even Navy's. But, they have been the "good opponent", and since joining the Big East, have begun to make some head-way. If Kelly stays there, I think he'll keep a good thing going.

Now, don't expect much out of em next year, what with 10 Sr.'s graduating from their defense, but the offense should be a little better. I mean; how many QB's now have game experience with that team? Give em a chance; I think they'll continue to be OK.
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
Notre Dame in the Hawaii Bowl?

PS: Utah has sold out their tickets.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
"Notre Dame in the Hawaii Bowl?"

Hey, at least it's a game Hawaii can win.
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
I'm disappointed in that selection and would have liked to see Notre Dame in the Texas Bowl- So they could lose to the Rice Owls
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
They give like what 10k 15k tickets? Probably even Cinci will sell thier tickets! Make no mistake you will barely be able to tell Utah fans are at the game for all the Crimson Tide will swallow them up. That bowl sold out for just having Alabama! I think they will get better TV ratings for playing Alabama too (rather then playing Fiesta).

Notre Dame is a good fit for the Hawaii bowl. They can afford to travel and take the worst bowl payout there is (348k) and it is a nice reward for thier kids. I don't think anyone should be upset least of all the PAC-10 who won't have to lose money sending a team out there to play. Really this is best for all parties.
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
5 Bowl games I might not watch:

    1) Fiesta Bowl: I am protesting this game for a couple of reasons.
    - Texas deserves as much of a chance as Oklahoma
    - The Fiesta Bowl should not have taken Ohio State
    2) Sun Bowl: Pitt is going to get killed.
    3) Orange Bowl: Cincinnati?
    4) GMAC: Ball State vs Tulsa looked much better a month ago
    5) Texas Bowl: Rice vs Western Michigan, just no interest here.

    5 Must see games:

    1) Poinsettia Bowl: TCU vs Boise State
    2) Capital One Bowl: Georgia vs Michigan State
    3) Cotton Bowl: Texas Tech vs Ole' Miss
    4) Gator Bowl: Nebraska vs Clemson
    5) Champs Sports Bowl: FSU vs Wisconsin
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
I think we all secretly hope the SEC is made into a paper tiger every bowl season.
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
Actually I think I am on the other side of the Cotton Bowl...
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
I am kind of the same way on the sugar......;)
Just because I have some friends in Boise who would not shutup about how they deserved to be split NC after they beat OU.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 12 months ago
It's not a secret anymore...lol. I see the SEC going 5-3 or possibly 6-2 in the bowls. Then again, 4-4 is do-able as well.

    We'll see soon enough.

    Geaux Tigers
    Geaux SEC
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
LOL! I'm sure both the Fiesta Bowl and BCS officials will not take your protest lightly...

    GO BUCKS!
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
I'm not mad. I know it is about money and every team in FBS gets a share of that money. As long as we let private enterprises and outside interests run our post season they might as well be raking it in to benefit the actual teams as much as possible. I wouldn't mind seeing Boise in a playoff though.
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
Hey, they will lose at least one viewer...
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
I like the Cinci/VA Tech match-up. You got 2 good teams with solid defenses and inconsistent offenses. This one will come down to which team's QB gets rattled less and makes the better decisions.

As for OR St/Pitt, tell ya what, if OR St does win, and they win by more than 9 pts, give me your address; I'll send you a bottle of wine. I say this, because I don't think OR St will slow down LaSean McCoy: 1400+ yards, almost a 5 yd/carry average, and he can tote it 30 times/game. Not to mention, if Bill Stull is on, it'll be even worse for the Beve's. He's got 7 receivers with 18 or more catches, 5 of which have more than 20 catches apiece. I think this one will be entertaining.
  • 1Tomcat · 12 months ago
Ben come on man, you usually pull for the teams from non-bcs conferences
The Rice Owls have a chance at winning a Bowl game-outstanding- they have only played in one Bowl game in the last 40 yrs or something. They have a great offense and Chase Clement is a great QB- His favorite target is Dillard- fantastic WR- who will play on Sundays.
Even though they lost to the Longhorns 52-10 they have had an outstanding year and I'll be pulling for them.
    Go Owls
  • Tyler_Tech · 12 months ago
    AWE:
What is the feel about your coaching situation right now. I really think they are going to go after Brian Kelley really really fast after their bowl game. I do not care what he has said. They were interviewing him and he said something to the effect of that "Cincy is a great place to be a coach." I think he is trying to make him self feel less guilty after he leaves, but like always I am probably reading to far into it.
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
"Cincy is a great place to be a coach [for the next guy]." You must not have heard that last part.
  • "BC" · 12 months ago
LSU and GT is a VERY intriguiing matchup.
so is every SEC bowl this year. except......the BCS ones.....
blowout, and blowout. but i think we're all used to it by now.
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
Do you actually think Florida is going to blow out Oklahoma? I'd be glad to take your money on that one.

  • Mr2Bits · 12 months ago
Florida will put 50+ on Oklahoma. Oklahoma will be lucky to break 40.

    My score is 52-38 UF
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
Come on, man. I know you're a huge Alabama fan, and I know you love to drink the SEC kool-aid, but seriously. If Oklahoma loses, it won't be anywhere near a 25 point deficit. Of course, a very good gauge of how serious someone is about a pick, is to put money on it. Out of sheer curiosity, how much would you be willing to put down that Florida beats Oklahoma by 25?
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
This is eerily reminiscent of '06, when we were gearing up to play OSU, yet all the smack came from Michigan Fan.

Now we're gearing up for OU, and all the smack is coming form Texas Fan.

Let's hear from OU Fan about how bad the Sooners are going destroy the Gators---I'd even suggest a special (albeit limited) dispensation for Lennie Collins, to spice things up!

    GO GATORS!!
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
    Where's Lennie been?
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
    "...dahrmy training, sir..."

'[s]cluded, I think, for meandering astray into the deep end, ignoring the lifeguard's rip-tide warnings, several dozen times...

...somethin' like that....what do I know.

    GO GATORS!!
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
    Yeah...I wondered about that.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
I won't deny he could be irritating at times, but I didn't think he was at all that bad. He was certainly more than a step above ole Coondawg.
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
Kinda hard to talk smack with the bowl record we have, but I suspect you'll get your wish from a few before the game is played....
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
The bottom line: we've both been humbled in the past, so our "smack" one way or the other, will naturally be tempered (once you've eatn' the sh*tburger atfter running your flap too much, you never forget the taste).

It's the "unhumbled", shrouded in the veil of hypotheticals ("...if only we had the chance...") who recklessly shoot off at the mouth (keyboard) with the cocksure confidence of a teenager behind the wheel of a sportscar he didn't pay for.

I know that's why we OU Fan is playing their cards close to their vest. Nebraska in '95 (62-24), is why UF Fan is.

Just danglin' a line in the water, OU-R...

    GO GATORS!!
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
That paticular delicacy you mention was force fed to Urban and Co. last year in the Outback bowl was it not? This is not the OSU game. I expect Florida to win but I also don't expect OU's star player to injure himself 7 seconds into the game. I am dead certain (As you should be) that that would have made for a very different game (Whether the overall W/L outcome was similar or not) and it is unfair to trashtalk OSU for that blowout.
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
Over a mid level bowl loss in a re-building year, to a senior laden team with NC aspirations going in to the year??? Nah....we got over that one pretty quickly.

As for the OSU game--not convinced at all. Watch the game again, if you ever get the chance--Troy Smith was lucky to have 2.5 seconds before having his face mask planted in the turf every play, and b/t/w: Ted Ginn doesn't play defense, so he wouldn't have affected our offensive production at all.

...not that I was talk'n "trash" about that game anyway....

But, since you tripped the issue....what are your excuses for 45-12, and 45-15, respectively?

    52-20?

    GO GATORS!!
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
"...Troy Smith was lucky to have 2.5 seconds before having his face mask planted in the turf every play..."

Agreed. The Buckeye O-line was...offensive...in that game.
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
    52-20? I don't know what that means.

Our problem is Mickey Andrews never seems to prep the defense against an option offense (GT was running all over us also). Proper coaching and we may still lose but it won't look that sick. We did better than much of the mighty SEC against Florida too. Watch B-Ball? Dropped your third straight to FSU last night!

I feel like, as a floridian, I should like root for Florida (for the NC game) but I hate Urban Meyer (aka hothead jackass) and loathe that a gimmicky offense can work so well (same to GT Paul Johnson, although I like GT).

Also I'd like to note that Tim Tebow said he was mad FSU fans cheered when Percy Harvin left the field, obviously he thinks everyone follows football enough to even know who he is (by number) and many others didn't even notice it was him. At FSU we always cheer when players are brought off the field even opposing ones, we aren't the only ones who do this but I guess they don't do it in Hogtown? It's kinda saying "Thank goodness he is ok or okish" and not normally done for those brought off on a stretcher. He said he went and asked Urban to give him the ball more because he wanted to "hit someone". Whatever gets kids motivated.... I feel that it really makes a statement about the fans he is used to dealing with at home.

    "52-20? I don't know what that means."
How long have you ben a fan?
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
    Nevermind.

    GO GATORS!!
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
Oh Porcine reminded me. 1996-97 went 1-1 that year didn't we? Yep. I've made a point of that on these blogs how Michigan fans got screwed since Florida got a shot at a team that beat them and Michigan didn't and Michigan came a lot closer @OSU (then Florida @FSU same season)! I thought we were talking about something more recent. BTW hard to get up to play a team you already beat I would think. What kinda bowl reward was Florida for the top ranked team in the nation, plenty of motivation for florida.

I got a blast from the past 18 years worth of no victories in doak! My favorite non victory was 31-31! Enjoy it while it lasts my UF loving friend FSU and Miami don't have Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee to compete with neither does USF. I think we will be talking less about Florida soon enough.
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
52-20 matters eternally, because that was the one game were ALL the marbles were on the line for both teams.

"...My favorite non victory was 31-31! ..."

There's where you show the pathetic nature of 'nole nation. It was a tie--a tie is where both teams lose, and neither wins. FSU Fan not only savors that dual defeat as a quasi-win--they relish it as one of the best "wins" in their programs' history. Pathetic.

You got a tie on "big bro." Whoop-tee-do.

Even in its glory days, FSU was in UF's (big bro's) shadow. Jealous, pathetic lil' sister...

The all time series b/t/w, is 32-19, and a tie or 2 (I don't even count them; they're essentially nullities).

    GO GATORS!!

Hardly are we Jealous, and Hardly in your shadow as we played eastern division champion Tennessee for the national championship to start a 3 year run that Miami replaced us in for the following 2 years and the 90's both Miami and FSU were markedly better teams (hence the never winning away games @FSU). It's not like anyone thought Florida was on our level except Florida. You just took winningest program since 1990 from us in your last regular season game so now after 5 years of crap and mediocrity from FSU we are just barely in your shadow. You caught up on the SIXTH YEAR'S LAST GAME, WITH A WIN OVER US!! Your vehement response attempting to negate the "choke" shows me that it bothers you and I'm sure someone who would bring up the other post season meeting would know what happened after the choke. You lost in the Sugar. Series was 13-5 in that run from '87 to '03 (Including your glorious rematch). I'll take that "Shadow" any day. Yes NOBODY likes a tie but if you watched that game and were a Florida State fan that was the best tie game ever (partly because it was also the best comeback ever up to that point).

Big Bro heh. Yes we started our football program 50 years later and you racked up a long series of wins (and sadly still lost some) when we were an absolutly abysmal program that had recently started admiting male students. Bravo, that is like beating up a little sister. Look at our program in those years... Talk about pathetic, to bring up our overall record when that is the case. Much sader that you LOST some. I guess Miami is YOUR big brother? Georgia Tech must be your DADDY.

Interestingly before FSU was a girl's school we did field a team in 1904. This was the first meeting of Florida/FSU... FSU won 23-0.

    Jealous.

FSU's administration even fudged its "founding" date in order to one-up UF--by citing the date the legislature authorized classes (1851)--not when they actually conducted classes (1857). That b/t/w, was the same piece of legislation that authorized UF, which actually conducted classes in 1853.

As for the games (yes, plural; more than one) before '06--they were played by the predessors of FSU and UF (West Florida Seminary and Florida Ag. College), by NON-varsity teams, without any rules.

FAC won the first and third games, and lost the second (funny you only mention the one FSU's predessor won). Whatever. We don't claim the 2 wins, anymore than we recognize the one loss, because the teams were not offically sanctioned.

b/t/w: WFS fielded professional players who weren't even students, against FAC's STUDENTS.

All of which is nothing more than ancient history, and entertaning trivia...

Keep savoring that 31-31 tie; I'll continue to treat it as a nullity...and root for my Gators to win their 2nd Nat'l Championship in 3 years.

All that really matters is the head-to-head and the national
championships. Florida owns us on the head-to-head, including FIVE
STRAIGHT. Granted, these things tend to go in cycles, but... five
straight means that an entire generation of UF players have never lost
    to FSU.

FSU has two national championships and UF has two (for now).

I will quietly eat my humble pie and count the days until next
    Thanksgiving. ;-)
  • TampaGator · 12 months ago
    Your a good sport, Kev.

FWIW...some of the students who comprised UF's first team in '06--transferred from WFS, when the leg'r reorganized the whole school system.

FSU is coming along stronger than the last 2 scores indicate--but I don't think they break the streak until Tebow leaves. Tebow to FSU is like Weinke to UF. We had to wait until Weinke was gone to break that cycle; likewise, I think FSU's gonna' have to wait for Tebow to graduate or go NFL.

"...but I also don't expect OU's star player to injure himself 7 seconds into the game."

Technically speaking, Ginn didn't hurt himself, Roy Hall injured him by jumping on him in celebration. Unfortunately, Roy Hall didn't have 1/2 the brain cells Myron Rolle possesses. That whole thing (Hall injuring Ginn) still makes my blood boil to this day, and makes me wish all the players acted like Myron Rolle--like they have brains in their heads.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 12 months ago
    Consider this, Tom...

On the kickoff Ginn returned for a touchdown, I still believe that the play should have been called back on a penalty (Reggie Nelson was held at mid-field). I wonder what would have happened if the flag had been thrown, Roy Hall had seen the flag, no celebration and no injury to Ginn.
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
Maybe. John Cooper used to say, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas." There were too many ifs and buts for me to think anything would've made a difference that day.
  • Tom_Blogical · 12 months ago
I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't think it's unfair at all. tOSU did not come to play. They believed too much of what they were reading about themselves during the break and didn't prepare to play a top-notch team. They got blown out of the water by a much more focused and hungry team. They had to bring their A-game to keep it close, (especially the O-line) and it didn't happen.

I'm not gonna talk alot of shit and i dont think florida will win by 25 but i do believe the deficit will be at least 14 :)

    Go on girl....talk some smack!

...my only advice is not to let yourself get too emotionally invested in the outcome. Anything can happen, and at the end of the day, it's just a game.
    (i.e.--perspective).

I'm expecting a world class shootout. If we come out on top 14 points--that would be great; I'd be content with a win of any margin!

How in the world can Texas Tech not be in a BCS game?? Ohio State? Give me a freakin break. I live in OH and am a Buckeyes fan, but Tech lit up the scoreboard, had three primetime games, and only lost one game - to the #1 team in the nation. What a slap in the face to Tech and to college football fans everywhere.

This just shows what a bunch of crap the BCS is. It's all about money, not about honoring the competitors for what they've accomplished on the field.
  • Porcine · 12 months ago
    I concur.
  • badgerballer · 12 months ago
I completely agree. The BCS rulez suck...bad. The "no conference with more than 2 representatives" idiotic rule bit my Badgers in 06, when we made the mistake of being 11-1 in the same year that Michigan and OSU were also great. Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma should all be in.

And the mandatory conference tie-ins is almost as badly idiotic. ALL of the BCS bids should be at-larges. Period. Someone take a look at Cincy's schedule and find me the marquee win. ANY marquee win. So you won the Big East : an 8 team conference, with no conference championship game, and who's second best team is.......Pitt?
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
If they wanted your badger's they would have changed the rules. It's the money.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
Yeah, you're right BadgerBaller. The Big East should look more like...the Big Televen. That way, they'd have 1 more team w/10 wins, 1 more team w/9 wins, 1 less team w/7 wins, and TWO MORE TEAMS w/AT LEAST EIGHT LOSSES! Oh, wait; I forgot; the Big Televen doesn't have a play-off either. So, I guess maybe the Big East shouldn't emulate the Big Televen, should they.

You are right, in that, it wasn't a particularly good year for them. Though, I still maintain 11-2 Cinci has earned some respect this year. (Pitt, by the way, has a couple of NC's.) The Big East does need to expand. If ND would join the Big Televen (makes sense geographically), and if the conference would pick up IA St (also makes sense geographically), then the B.E. could pick up Penn St (again a geographic improvement) along with a few other schools w/potential. The Big 12 could easily get back to 12 by picking up Air Force, CO St, or TCU, among other possibilities. Just a thought.
  • The_Observer · 12 months ago
Good points, but they were considered thirdish in their own division. It definitely sucks for them, but someone had to be left out.
  • badgerballer · 12 months ago
Why, oh why, is the ONLY bowl game on Saturday, January 3rd the Independence Bowl - featuring those power house, Buffalo against UConn?

In fact, this entire line up is lame - especially if you're in a western time zone state, like I am. I host an annual party every New Years Day (called "The Pigskin Pigout", I smoke up a few racks of my world famous ribs, fire up the 65 inch + two 32's, me and about 10 guys - no women allowed, just the men, watch'n football, eat'n pork products, belch'n, scratch'n, yell'n at officials,...its a beautiful thing. I'm sure everyone here can appreciate.) This year's New Year's Day games are so doggone early. 9am, 11am, 11am, then this big gap until 3pm and then 6pm. Lousy job of staggering them.
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
SO... Rivals is reporting that FSU has "secretly" said the Gator bowl snubbing us this season will affect whether we move any more neutral site games there. They freaking owed us. And they are mad over the poor colorado turn out... hello it was colorado... yes the one that is thousands of miles away. Gator had to put in extra seating when we agreed to play Bama there. (yes, yes more bama fans but that game was beyond sold out and I knew hundreds of FSU people that wanted tickets and couldn't get them, we would have more butts in seats had alabama fans not bought 2/3 of the tickets). It was a sold out game when Auburn/Florida where playing at almost the same time only about 90 minutes down the road, sold out when Jacksonville is gator country! Next time we should put the game in Orlando, hopefully we put all neutral site games in orlando from now on.

Also many FSU fans were pissed that the game wasn't at FSU as planned and moved "last minute" going to see a medicore Big-12 team isn't all that alluring and I'm not sure why we moved it in the first place. Clemson, GT, FSU consider SEC teams to be rivals and SEC teams like to play us. No one cares this far east about Colorado (I guess I shouldn't say big-12 as old SWC teams in the big 12 could bring crowds.

Not mad at Clemson just fuming over the Gator bowl's trashy behavior, they owed FSU.
  • Clemson_Joe · 12 months ago
I'm not saying you're wrong, but that's not at all what I've heard. The Gator Bowl told us that it had to do with our winning streak to finish the season, and because of the distance. Our fans travel well, as does FSU, but in the case of this game, travel wouldn't be necessary for FSU fans. So, Clemson fans will drive down and spend at least one night, and in a lot of cases 2 or more nights for the game. That will generate far more money for the local economy as opposed to the FSU fans leaving town that morning to drive to the game, and then returning home that evening.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 12 months ago
This has nothing to do with Clemson and EVERYTHING to do with FSU. The fact is the Gator Bowl could care less about hotel rooms. (I mean - honestly - it's not like they see a nickel of that money. If it were about hotel rooms, they never would have chosen any "local" teams ever, right?)

The fact remains that the FSU-Colorado game (which should have never been moved to Jax) only sold 55,000 seats. That came on the heels of several poor ACC championship games. Regardless of FSU's past sell outs, the Gator Bowl is simply losing money and didn't want to take a risk that FSU would not sell out. That's the fact.

That decision has been blasted by the FSU AD who has already indicated that the Noles will not be back in Jacksonville (regular season or otherwise) for a long, long time to come.

Clemson is in and will play their hearts out, I'm sure.
  • FSU_Ben · 12 months ago
I will not purchase a ticket for another game in jacksonville and I have been to two regular season matchups there before. They better stick to thier guns on this. I guess you can blame FSU that WAKE and BC made the championship games dooming them all to failure but you can also blame Clemson! Colorado was a stupid game to move there and I am curious how 55,000 seats sold is unprofitable. I think not as profitable as they wanted would be the term.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 12 months ago
The FSU-Colorado game was unprofitable for the Gator Bowl because of
the substantial guaranteed payouts to FSU and (to a lesser degree)
Colorado, which would be recouped by ticket sales, suite rentals, and
corporate sponsorships... some of which didn't pan out nearly as well
    as they did for FSU-Bama.

Based on comments within the Booster association, I feel quite certain
that FSU will not be in Jax for any reason for a good long time.
  • Zac · 12 months ago
We've all heard it before. "The offense gets em there; the defense wins it." Though defense has certainly played its part, this game will not be about defense as much as it will be about offense.

Everyone's buzzing about OK's record: 60+ pts/game in 5 straight games. FL has also provided its fair share of fireworks, having scored 6 or more TD's/game 8 times, which included dropping 49 pts on GA & 51 pts on LSU - 2 defensive minded teams. Though the loss to Ole Miss may not be considered a defensive struggle, the Rebels held their last 4 opponents to a total of 20 pts.

OK, on the other hand, is said to have no defense, nor have they played anyone with a decent defense. Odd thing; they dropped 52 pts on Cinci, a team with 10 Sr's & 1 Jr on its defense. Other than OK, only 3 teams scored at least 3 TD's against the Bear-Cats in a game. The Sooners dropped another 35 pts on TCU, while holding the Horn Frogs to only 10. TCU had scored an average of 40 pts/gm to that point, while holding teams to less than 9 pts/gm, including 7 against BYU & 13 at 7th ranked UT (a game TCU arguably should have won).

Then, there's OK's game against TX Tech, where-by their defense completely took Tech's QB, Graham Harrell, out of his game. Of course, there is the lone loss to TX, likely the only other team with a respectable defense on OK's slate. The Sooners still dropped 35 on the Horns in that loss. For OK, it was a game of missed opportunities; for TX, it was a game of perseverance. The point is OK has a defense. It can be had, but it can play when it wants to.

So, that leaves us with 2 teams (arguably the right 2), each w/1 loss; each having won their respective conference championship, each having been to NC games, and each having won it. We could review the stats, strength of schedule, personnel, coaches, bowl records, etc, and formulate a hypothesis as to which team will likely win come January 8th. But, I say to you, other than a lucky guess, it's impossible to know exactly what will happen on that Thursday night in January.

FL has all the tools & talent it needs to win. Rest assured, OK's defense will not be able to take Tim Tebow out of his game, as they did with Tech's QB, Graham Harrell. That said, I think the Sooners come away with the title. They're hungry for it; they're tired of their bowl record, especially in the last 5 years; they don't like being called the underdog. I think you'll see as good a game out them defensively as well as offensively as we've seen all year, but I agree; neither team will likely surpass the 40 pt mark. Sooners 38, Gators 34. Remember, you heard it here 1st.

Well Zac That OU defense held Texas to 45 points- heck of a game
I think that Florida has a great chance, because they are balanced
watch the Highlights of the UT vs OU game on youtube
OU got ahead on TCU and TCU went to the passing game trying to play catchup
Texas just stuck to their gameplan and never gave up
I want OU to lose because Barry switzer was grinning on fox sports

Ya Ron I was trying to watch the show on Fox and that former coach that I hardly ever mention was on there grinning from ear to ear- I'm sure there are millions of other fans that felt the same way- No offense to OU or their fans but just the sight of that guy on the set- just burns up UT fans- myself included- he's smiling and grinning after losing the real champ game in Dallas.
What's done is done and with the current rules that exist the Sooners are going to the big one- As you well know I'll be pullin against them like I always have- every game-every season for my entire life.- LOL

They may not win Zac, but I bet you they play with more determination than in the past, I don't think it will be a runaway for Florida..
  • Wardboy3 · 12 months ago
One thing you didn't mention is special teams. OK has given up 4 KO for TD's this year. I know if you look at that compared to the number of KO they had it is a small number but still.
  • OU_Ron · 12 months ago
You're right, kick off coverage, field goals and LB positions are problems, but we have a month to work on it, hopefully they can improve by game time...
  • Zac · 12 months ago
One way or another, Ron, win or lose, OK will show FL where its heart is. I honestly think this will be a great one! Can't wait!!!
  • gosu27 · 12 months ago
Last year OU was beat by a disheartened WVU team in the Fiesta Bowl. Florida pretty much has a home game inside their own state and Tebow is a better version of Pat White, who picked them apart last year. Tebow also has more weapons.

All signs point to Florida running away with it.
  • Zac · 11 months ago
"All signs point to Florida running away with it."

That's what people (myself included) were saying about OSU the year FL beat them.

Now that I think about it, I think I only predicted OSU to beat FL by 6.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
I like Florida to cover the -3 against Oklahoma.
USC to cover the -10 over Penn State
I'll take Utah and the +11 against Alabama
I'll take Oregon and the +3 against Oklahoma State
I like Ohio State and the +9 against Texas
I like TCU and the -2 against Boise State
I'll take Iowa and the -3 against South Carolina
I like Oregon State and the -3 against Pittsburgh

That's eight games that look pretty good to me. You just can't take Oklahoma when they've lost four straight BCS bowl games. The Big 10's tradition of getting "blown out" in the Rose Bowl is legendary. Utah will give Alabama some trouble - although I think Bama gets that game. If Big 12 teams were puttin' fifty on OK State - then Oregon is gonna roll about seventy on them. Ohio State's defense will give Texas something that they haven't seen all year - that's called pass coverage and tackling. TCU's defense will frustrate Boise. Iowa is the most underrated team in America, and will take SOS to the woodshed, yet again. Good thing he has a job for life. Oregon State will most likely dismantle Pittsburgh. The Beavers are gonna be very nasty in this one.
