Will you be going? Maybe we could hook up and eat some oysters? :-)
Scrooge!!!!!
http://www.gainesville.com/article/20081209/NEW...
Plus at the house you can mute those commentators and that iratating boomer-sooner music- not to mention grinning ex-coaches LOL
BTW Eyes of Texas is usually right before and after the game- the others like Texas Fight which is a sped up version of taps is played alot
The song has evolved and is more tacky and distasteful as ever- used to be givem-hell go horns go has been replaced with OU sux-its unofficial, but now these young kids probably think thats the real words
LOL- Texas A&M has the best band and songs IMO

2 tickets to THE game, or...
A 60" flat panel TV
Thanks for the reminder - I need to pick up a case of Shiner 'tween now and then.
I believe it will be a good game but UF will most likely win
j/k...
Ron mentioned he liked oysters after I published my gumbo recipe here in the off season. I remembered this specifically because OU_Ron is the only Oklahoman I know of that likes oysters. Also, as many people don't like oysters, I'm always looking for people who enjoy them in case there's an oyster bar nearby.
Now if I can just get that "R&R" image out of my head I'll be okay.

:-)
By the way, I recall having tried a shrimp recipe you posted. Primo!!!
If I could live my life all over- it wouldnt matter anyway
cause I never could stay sober
on the Corpus Christi Bay
My top 5 are:
1.) Texas Tech vs. Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl
2.) LSU vs. Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-a Bowl
3.) North Carolina vs. West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl
4.) TCU vs. Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl
5.) Oregon vs. Oklahoma State in the Holiday Bowl
I like Joe's picks, but I'm also curious about AL/UT, Cinci/VA Tech, KY/ECU, GA/MI St, and strangely enough Buffalo/UConn. It's refreshing to see a program on the rise, like Buffalo; UConn has a couple of good wins, and is actually a decent team...when they show up for the game.
As for the over-all bowl picture, there's just something about Michigan NOT being there...
TCU vs Bois St
TTech vs Ole Miss
West ILL vs Rice
UT vs tOSU
Minn vs KU
N Western vs Missu
Iowa vs S Car
Sorry BE fans but the only Cinn game I saw was OU - blow out
The only UConn game I saw was Baylor-real close game down to the wire
The only WV game I saw was a loss to Colo
Always next year The BU Bears could compete in the BE, but they are in the XII south are real hard division
Adios Tomcat
............ :)
sure the rebs have their own command post in mind.
I think I just threw up in my mouth.
I still don't understand the issue with Cinci. Their program may not be as prominent as MI's, NE's, or even Navy's. But, they have been the "good opponent", and since joining the Big East, have begun to make some head-way. If Kelly stays there, I think he'll keep a good thing going.
Now, don't expect much out of em next year, what with 10 Sr.'s graduating from their defense, but the offense should be a little better. I mean; how many QB's now have game experience with that team? Give em a chance; I think they'll continue to be OK.
PS: Utah has sold out their tickets.
Hey, at least it's a game Hawaii can win.
Notre Dame is a good fit for the Hawaii bowl. They can afford to travel and take the worst bowl payout there is (348k) and it is a nice reward for thier kids. I don't think anyone should be upset least of all the PAC-10 who won't have to lose money sending a team out there to play. Really this is best for all parties.
1) Fiesta Bowl: I am protesting this game for a couple of reasons.
- Texas deserves as much of a chance as Oklahoma
- The Fiesta Bowl should not have taken Ohio State
2) Sun Bowl: Pitt is going to get killed.
3) Orange Bowl: Cincinnati?
4) GMAC: Ball State vs Tulsa looked much better a month ago
5) Texas Bowl: Rice vs Western Michigan, just no interest here.
5 Must see games:
1) Poinsettia Bowl: TCU vs Boise State
2) Capital One Bowl: Georgia vs Michigan State
3) Cotton Bowl: Texas Tech vs Ole' Miss
4) Gator Bowl: Nebraska vs Clemson
5) Champs Sports Bowl: FSU vs Wisconsin
Just because I have some friends in Boise who would not shutup about how they deserved to be split NC after they beat OU.
We'll see soon enough.

GO BUCKS!
As for OR St/Pitt, tell ya what, if OR St does win, and they win by more than 9 pts, give me your address; I'll send you a bottle of wine. I say this, because I don't think OR St will slow down LaSean McCoy: 1400+ yards, almost a 5 yd/carry average, and he can tote it 30 times/game. Not to mention, if Bill Stull is on, it'll be even worse for the Beve's. He's got 7 receivers with 18 or more catches, 5 of which have more than 20 catches apiece. I think this one will be entertaining.
The Rice Owls have a chance at winning a Bowl game-outstanding- they have only played in one Bowl game in the last 40 yrs or something. They have a great offense and Chase Clement is a great QB- His favorite target is Dillard- fantastic WR- who will play on Sundays.
Even though they lost to the Longhorns 52-10 they have had an outstanding year and I'll be pulling for them.
Go Owls
What is the feel about your coaching situation right now. I really think they are going to go after Brian Kelley really really fast after their bowl game. I do not care what he has said. They were interviewing him and he said something to the effect of that "Cincy is a great place to be a coach." I think he is trying to make him self feel less guilty after he leaves, but like always I am probably reading to far into it.
so is every SEC bowl this year. except......the BCS ones.....
blowout, and blowout. but i think we're all used to it by now.

My score is 52-38 UF
Now we're gearing up for OU, and all the smack is coming form Texas Fan.
Let's hear from OU Fan about how bad the Sooners are going destroy the Gators---I'd even suggest a special (albeit limited) dispensation for Lennie Collins, to spice things up!
GO GATORS!!
'[s]cluded, I think, for meandering astray into the deep end, ignoring the lifeguard's rip-tide warnings, several dozen times...
...somethin' like that....what do I know.
GO GATORS!!
It's the "unhumbled", shrouded in the veil of hypotheticals ("...if only we had the chance...") who recklessly shoot off at the mouth (keyboard) with the cocksure confidence of a teenager behind the wheel of a sportscar he didn't pay for.
I know that's why we OU Fan is playing their cards close to their vest. Nebraska in '95 (62-24), is why UF Fan is.
Just danglin' a line in the water, OU-R...
GO GATORS!!
As for the OSU game--not convinced at all. Watch the game again, if you ever get the chance--Troy Smith was lucky to have 2.5 seconds before having his face mask planted in the turf every play, and b/t/w: Ted Ginn doesn't play defense, so he wouldn't have affected our offensive production at all.
...not that I was talk'n "trash" about that game anyway....
But, since you tripped the issue....what are your excuses for 45-12, and 45-15, respectively?
52-20?
GO GATORS!!
Agreed. The Buckeye O-line was...offensive...in that game.
Our problem is Mickey Andrews never seems to prep the defense against an option offense (GT was running all over us also). Proper coaching and we may still lose but it won't look that sick. We did better than much of the mighty SEC against Florida too. Watch B-Ball? Dropped your third straight to FSU last night!
I feel like, as a floridian, I should like root for Florida (for the NC game) but I hate Urban Meyer (aka hothead jackass) and loathe that a gimmicky offense can work so well (same to GT Paul Johnson, although I like GT).
Also I'd like to note that Tim Tebow said he was mad FSU fans cheered when Percy Harvin left the field, obviously he thinks everyone follows football enough to even know who he is (by number) and many others didn't even notice it was him. At FSU we always cheer when players are brought off the field even opposing ones, we aren't the only ones who do this but I guess they don't do it in Hogtown? It's kinda saying "Thank goodness he is ok or okish" and not normally done for those brought off on a stretcher. He said he went and asked Urban to give him the ball more because he wanted to "hit someone". Whatever gets kids motivated.... I feel that it really makes a statement about the fans he is used to dealing with at home.
How long have you ben a fan?
GO GATORS!!
I got a blast from the past 18 years worth of no victories in doak! My favorite non victory was 31-31! Enjoy it while it lasts my UF loving friend FSU and Miami don't have Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee to compete with neither does USF. I think we will be talking less about Florida soon enough.
"...My favorite non victory was 31-31! ..."
There's where you show the pathetic nature of 'nole nation. It was a tie--a tie is where both teams lose, and neither wins. FSU Fan not only savors that dual defeat as a quasi-win--they relish it as one of the best "wins" in their programs' history. Pathetic.
You got a tie on "big bro." Whoop-tee-do.
Even in its glory days, FSU was in UF's (big bro's) shadow. Jealous, pathetic lil' sister...
The all time series b/t/w, is 32-19, and a tie or 2 (I don't even count them; they're essentially nullities).
GO GATORS!!
Big Bro heh. Yes we started our football program 50 years later and you racked up a long series of wins (and sadly still lost some) when we were an absolutly abysmal program that had recently started admiting male students. Bravo, that is like beating up a little sister. Look at our program in those years... Talk about pathetic, to bring up our overall record when that is the case. Much sader that you LOST some. I guess Miami is YOUR big brother? Georgia Tech must be your DADDY.
Interestingly before FSU was a girl's school we did field a team in 1904. This was the first meeting of Florida/FSU... FSU won 23-0.
FSU's administration even fudged its "founding" date in order to one-up UF--by citing the date the legislature authorized classes (1851)--not when they actually conducted classes (1857). That b/t/w, was the same piece of legislation that authorized UF, which actually conducted classes in 1853.
As for the games (yes, plural; more than one) before '06--they were played by the predessors of FSU and UF (West Florida Seminary and Florida Ag. College), by NON-varsity teams, without any rules.
FAC won the first and third games, and lost the second (funny you only mention the one FSU's predessor won). Whatever. We don't claim the 2 wins, anymore than we recognize the one loss, because the teams were not offically sanctioned.
b/t/w: WFS fielded professional players who weren't even students, against FAC's STUDENTS.
All of which is nothing more than ancient history, and entertaning trivia...
Keep savoring that 31-31 tie; I'll continue to treat it as a nullity...and root for my Gators to win their 2nd Nat'l Championship in 3 years.
GO GATORS!!
championships. Florida owns us on the head-to-head, including FIVE
STRAIGHT. Granted, these things tend to go in cycles, but... five
straight means that an entire generation of UF players have never lost
to FSU.
FSU has two national championships and UF has two (for now).
I will quietly eat my humble pie and count the days until next
Thanksgiving. ;-)
FWIW...some of the students who comprised UF's first team in '06--transferred from WFS, when the leg'r reorganized the whole school system.
FSU is coming along stronger than the last 2 scores indicate--but I don't think they break the streak until Tebow leaves. Tebow to FSU is like Weinke to UF. We had to wait until Weinke was gone to break that cycle; likewise, I think FSU's gonna' have to wait for Tebow to graduate or go NFL.
GO GATORS!!
Technically speaking, Ginn didn't hurt himself, Roy Hall injured him by jumping on him in celebration. Unfortunately, Roy Hall didn't have 1/2 the brain cells Myron Rolle possesses. That whole thing (Hall injuring Ginn) still makes my blood boil to this day, and makes me wish all the players acted like Myron Rolle--like they have brains in their heads.
On the kickoff Ginn returned for a touchdown, I still believe that the play should have been called back on a penalty (Reggie Nelson was held at mid-field). I wonder what would have happened if the flag had been thrown, Roy Hall had seen the flag, no celebration and no injury to Ginn.
...my only advice is not to let yourself get too emotionally invested in the outcome. Anything can happen, and at the end of the day, it's just a game.
(i.e.--perspective).
I'm expecting a world class shootout. If we come out on top 14 points--that would be great; I'd be content with a win of any margin!
GO GATORS!!
Congrats on yalls win-been a terrific season
BTW UT vs tOSU ought to be a good one, but I was kinda wishing it would be against Bama,or USC just to help clarify things for ole Tommie T & Bleed Crimson
Hookem-Horns
...never gets old....
GO GATORS!!
This just shows what a bunch of crap the BCS is. It's all about money, not about honoring the competitors for what they've accomplished on the field.
And the mandatory conference tie-ins is almost as badly idiotic. ALL of the BCS bids should be at-larges. Period. Someone take a look at Cincy's schedule and find me the marquee win. ANY marquee win. So you won the Big East : an 8 team conference, with no conference championship game, and who's second best team is.......Pitt?
You are right, in that, it wasn't a particularly good year for them. Though, I still maintain 11-2 Cinci has earned some respect this year. (Pitt, by the way, has a couple of NC's.) The Big East does need to expand. If ND would join the Big Televen (makes sense geographically), and if the conference would pick up IA St (also makes sense geographically), then the B.E. could pick up Penn St (again a geographic improvement) along with a few other schools w/potential. The Big 12 could easily get back to 12 by picking up Air Force, CO St, or TCU, among other possibilities. Just a thought.
In fact, this entire line up is lame - especially if you're in a western time zone state, like I am. I host an annual party every New Years Day (called "The Pigskin Pigout", I smoke up a few racks of my world famous ribs, fire up the 65 inch + two 32's, me and about 10 guys - no women allowed, just the men, watch'n football, eat'n pork products, belch'n, scratch'n, yell'n at officials,...its a beautiful thing. I'm sure everyone here can appreciate.) This year's New Year's Day games are so doggone early. 9am, 11am, 11am, then this big gap until 3pm and then 6pm. Lousy job of staggering them.
Also many FSU fans were pissed that the game wasn't at FSU as planned and moved "last minute" going to see a medicore Big-12 team isn't all that alluring and I'm not sure why we moved it in the first place. Clemson, GT, FSU consider SEC teams to be rivals and SEC teams like to play us. No one cares this far east about Colorado (I guess I shouldn't say big-12 as old SWC teams in the big 12 could bring crowds.
Not mad at Clemson just fuming over the Gator bowl's trashy behavior, they owed FSU.
The fact remains that the FSU-Colorado game (which should have never been moved to Jax) only sold 55,000 seats. That came on the heels of several poor ACC championship games. Regardless of FSU's past sell outs, the Gator Bowl is simply losing money and didn't want to take a risk that FSU would not sell out. That's the fact.
That decision has been blasted by the FSU AD who has already indicated that the Noles will not be back in Jacksonville (regular season or otherwise) for a long, long time to come.
Clemson is in and will play their hearts out, I'm sure.
the substantial guaranteed payouts to FSU and (to a lesser degree)
Colorado, which would be recouped by ticket sales, suite rentals, and
corporate sponsorships... some of which didn't pan out nearly as well
as they did for FSU-Bama.
Based on comments within the Booster association, I feel quite certain
that FSU will not be in Jax for any reason for a good long time.
Everyone's buzzing about OK's record: 60+ pts/game in 5 straight games. FL has also provided its fair share of fireworks, having scored 6 or more TD's/game 8 times, which included dropping 49 pts on GA & 51 pts on LSU - 2 defensive minded teams. Though the loss to Ole Miss may not be considered a defensive struggle, the Rebels held their last 4 opponents to a total of 20 pts.
OK, on the other hand, is said to have no defense, nor have they played anyone with a decent defense. Odd thing; they dropped 52 pts on Cinci, a team with 10 Sr's & 1 Jr on its defense. Other than OK, only 3 teams scored at least 3 TD's against the Bear-Cats in a game. The Sooners dropped another 35 pts on TCU, while holding the Horn Frogs to only 10. TCU had scored an average of 40 pts/gm to that point, while holding teams to less than 9 pts/gm, including 7 against BYU & 13 at 7th ranked UT (a game TCU arguably should have won).
Then, there's OK's game against TX Tech, where-by their defense completely took Tech's QB, Graham Harrell, out of his game. Of course, there is the lone loss to TX, likely the only other team with a respectable defense on OK's slate. The Sooners still dropped 35 on the Horns in that loss. For OK, it was a game of missed opportunities; for TX, it was a game of perseverance. The point is OK has a defense. It can be had, but it can play when it wants to.
So, that leaves us with 2 teams (arguably the right 2), each w/1 loss; each having won their respective conference championship, each having been to NC games, and each having won it. We could review the stats, strength of schedule, personnel, coaches, bowl records, etc, and formulate a hypothesis as to which team will likely win come January 8th. But, I say to you, other than a lucky guess, it's impossible to know exactly what will happen on that Thursday night in January.
FL has all the tools & talent it needs to win. Rest assured, OK's defense will not be able to take Tim Tebow out of his game, as they did with Tech's QB, Graham Harrell. That said, I think the Sooners come away with the title. They're hungry for it; they're tired of their bowl record, especially in the last 5 years; they don't like being called the underdog. I think you'll see as good a game out them defensively as well as offensively as we've seen all year, but I agree; neither team will likely surpass the 40 pt mark. Sooners 38, Gators 34. Remember, you heard it here 1st.
I think that Florida has a great chance, because they are balanced
watch the Highlights of the UT vs OU game on youtube
OU got ahead on TCU and TCU went to the passing game trying to play catchup
Texas just stuck to their gameplan and never gave up
I want OU to lose because Barry switzer was grinning on fox sports
Hookem-Horns
What's done is done and with the current rules that exist the Sooners are going to the big one- As you well know I'll be pullin against them like I always have- every game-every season for my entire life.- LOL
Hookem-Horns
All signs point to Florida running away with it.
That's what people (myself included) were saying about OSU the year FL beat them.
Now that I think about it, I think I only predicted OSU to beat FL by 6.
USC to cover the -10 over Penn State
I'll take Utah and the +11 against Alabama
I'll take Oregon and the +3 against Oklahoma State
I like Ohio State and the +9 against Texas
I like TCU and the -2 against Boise State
I'll take Iowa and the -3 against South Carolina
I like Oregon State and the -3 against Pittsburgh
That's eight games that look pretty good to me. You just can't take Oklahoma when they've lost four straight BCS bowl games. The Big 10's tradition of getting "blown out" in the Rose Bowl is legendary. Utah will give Alabama some trouble - although I think Bama gets that game. If Big 12 teams were puttin' fifty on OK State - then Oregon is gonna roll about seventy on them. Ohio State's defense will give Texas something that they haven't seen all year - that's called pass coverage and tackling. TCU's defense will frustrate Boise. Iowa is the most underrated team in America, and will take SOS to the woodshed, yet again. Good thing he has a job for life. Oregon State will most likely dismantle Pittsburgh. The Beavers are gonna be very nasty in this one.
