OU 45 - FLA 31
Why not, the same people and machines that voted Oklahoma over Texas are still the ones voting. Running up the score on weak teams makes for good stats. Commonly referred to as "Style points". Florida's drubbing of LSU was impressive until you found out that 4 other teams would beat LSU. Georgia lost 3 games. Auburn lost 7 games. Tennessee lost 7 games. Arkansas had 7 losses, one of the losses was to Texas and then they stopped the series. Heck, Vandy only had 6 losses. Alabama went to overtime with LSU. Maybe the SEC isn't that good this year.
The fact is that Texas lost to # 7 Texas Tech on the last play of the game and Florida lost to unranked Mississippi on a missed extra point.
Ole Miss is actually a really tough team and i believe they will dominate come bowl season.
The SEC this year is:
Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, Georgia
The Big XII this year is:
Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma St.
Alabama > Oklahoma
Ole Miss > Texas Tech
Florida > Texas
Georgia < Oklahoma St.
so, really, i think the SEC is still the best conference in the land. of course, i'll have to wait until bowl season before anyone will believe me.
sure, with all of the spread offenses in the big 12, there are many more offensive possessions, thus, leading to more points.
but in no way does that equate to being better, as the media would have you believe.
teams in the SEC still have the bigger players, and would dominate in the trenches.
remember how Oklahoma just completely dominated Texas Tech? well all you had to do was look at their lines. Texas Tech simply had no answer for the power run. Texas Tech also had no answer to their receivers being covered. and this is what i've been saying all season long. every line in the SEC is around the same size as Oklahoma's, and you rarely ever see receivers get wide open.
but to stay on topic, i believe there is nothing to worry about.
the BCS would rather fudge the numbers, than take the heat for a rematch NC game.
SEC vs BCS conf schools 2008
WIN: 6
LOSS: 9
That is a 40% win percentage. That does not include SEC losses to non-BCS schools of Wyoming and LA Tech.
FYI...that is the worst win % of all BCS conf.
Just hopin' my jorts dry out in time...
And my liver...
Have a safe trip up to Atlanta this weekend.
I'll be heading over Friday.
Roll Tide! ;)
We are headin' up on Friday as well and staying out in Conyers with a buddy of mine that I played NAIA ball with up in Kentucky....
I haven't seen him in a couple of years so it should be fun...
Already booked a room for Joe Robbie & NOLA so I'll be square regardless of what the outcome is Sat. night...
Gettin ready to bolt for the ATL shortly after Noon...
We'll be chillin' most of the afternoon in Five Points at the 5 Points Pub soakin' up some counterculture then catchin' a cab down to the GA-Dome...
Just hopin' the game gets over in time for us to check out either Fishbone or Delbert McClinton tomorrow night...
He stated the "SEC is still the best conference in the land". I was just showing what happens to the SEC as a WHOLE, not just one team, as a whole play other BCS conference teams and also the struggles against non-BCS teams.
I feel if you try to claim that you are "the best conference in the land" your WHOLE conference should prove it on the field, not just one team.
And actually the Gators were 2-0 against the ACC, they defeated Fla St & Miami. So FLA made up 33% of the SEC OOC BCS wins. One team out of 12 made up 33% of the wins. That is not "the best conference in the land" according to me.
Maybe not your point...
But certainly mine...
I forgot about Miami...
At least they put up a better fight than the Noles...
they should be pretty exciting to watch.
OU 45 - FLA 31
I actually just estimated where each BCS computer would move them to and estimated the vote distribution of the polls, based on current distributions implied by the current values.
Most of the gain came from the Coaches Poll, where I gave Florida most of the 1st place votes. I kept Oklahoma and Texas roughly tied at #2 and #3 across the board, with a few stray 1st place votes.
Florida came out ahead 0.9577 to 0.9519, plus or minus .01. I have learned not to doubt the BCS GURU, and he brought this up a couple of hours before Kill The BCS did on another page.
( Kill beat me to the punch, as I don't post threads at work... )
While the BCS formula intrinsically has a resolution down to 0.0000009587 (1/1043100), but an accuracy of only 0.00699. This is from the resolution of the inputs and formula alone.
It does not include the error in the inputs.
Odds of Florida and Oklahoma winning: 4:3
Adding these:
Florida passing Texas: 2:1
USC beating UCLA: 9:1
Fiesta Bowl taking Boise State over Ohio State: 1:1
Sugar Bowl taking Boise State over Ohio State: 1:15
Oklahoma Texas Rematch: 4:17 or about 20%
NCG: Oklahoma 95%, Florida 40%, Alabama 40%, Texas 25%.
Rose Bowl: Penn State 100%, USC 90%, Oregon State 10%.
Fiesta Bowl: Texas 75%, Utah 85%, Alabama 10%, Boise State 10%, Ohio State 10%, Missouri 5%, USC 5%
Sugar Bowl: Florida 60%, Ohio State 70%, Alabama 40%, Utah 15%, Cincinnati 10%, Boise State 5%,
Orange Bowl: Cincinnati 90%, Virginia Tech 50%, Boston College 50%, Alabama 10%
Propability of a BCS Bowl: Texas, Alabama, Florida, Penn State, Utah and Cincinnati 100%; Oklahoma and USC 95%; Ohio State 80%; Virginia Tech and Boston College 50%; Boise State 15%; Oregon State 10%; Missouri 5%
Book it.
GO GATORS!!
For the SEC, I favor OU; I think SEC champ beats OU handily. As for the more desirable matchups, I'm much prefer to see Texas or USC v. SEC Champ.
GO GATORS!!
OU and Missu in the XII Chump game two teams that have already lost to Texas
Texas is the real XII Champ
Hookem-Horns
It will be close in the BCS.
Florida cannot gain much in the Harris poll or the Computer polls, but the USA Today Poll can put them over Texas if they go from 4 to number 1. If they dont, Texas is going to get in. That would be criminal.
