"Alabama would be waaay ahead of Auburn if they weren't paying twice the market price for the 'general manager'..."

"Actually, Alabama would be waaay ahead of Auburn if they weren't paying their players..."

WOW!!! Talk about zingers!!! How do I go on now that you have totally put my school in its place. I may have to change my favorite team b/c CLEARLY, you all have told it like it is, shown us all the light...

    YAWN...

Please take a trip down to Home Depot and get that CHIP OFF YOUR SHOULDER...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 5 months ago
Actually, we're at Office Depot making copies of the chip so everybody can have one...

Yea, you're right. That's pretty weak. Let me work on a top 10 list...
  • TigerEducated · 5 months ago
I believe it was your school & its Student Athletes, Boosters, & Coaches who put itself in that "place" you're talking about...

    Not us...

    Don't give us easy targets...

...and you are right about one thing with the Yawn...It's almost as if Bama's on probation so much for violations that its something even its fans take for granted...
  • fosterkeats · 5 months ago
It's just become so cliche' to gloat over another school going on probation, I thought you were better than that...

If it comes out tomorrow that Les Miles paid for hookers & booze for his players, I wouldn't spend my time "stickin" it to another school, I couldn't care less, I care about other things.

They would like to note that thanks to GM & Chrysler's demise, the cost of Chargers has gone down in Gadsden City, as well as elsewhere across the State of Alabama. So, the margin hit they're taking on that one is somewhat lessened by the incentives & overall depressed pricing in the automotive sector.

Kevin, are these gross or net revenues?
  • Ben Prather · 5 months ago
Isn't revenue usually gross and profit usually net?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 5 months ago
As you can see, Zac didn't get the business merit badge when he was a Scout...

    Come on WEA-
wonder how the others faired 11 thru 119 ? any Idea
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 5 months ago
No, because the original article is for subscribers only, and so far, no bloggers have posted the additional info anywhere.
  • Zac · 5 months ago
That's because Zac got the Chemistry MB instead, along with Atomic Energy. I leave the finance & definitions there-of to the bean counters.

I find it amazing that other sports at a place like TX can add almost $50 million to the total. Is it safe to assume that BBall makes up the bulk of this?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 5 months ago
Nah, in Texas, I think it's competitive horseshoes that's the #2 revenue stream...
  • 1Tomcat · 5 months ago
Washers & Darts have overtaked Horseshoes, Frisbee golf and canoe races are becoming more popular than turkey shoots and chicken fights- heck the times are a changin- non competitive intertube floating

Longhorn baseball draws 10k per game...

    Basketball averages 16k per game

Even their swimming & diving teams draw good crowds

I'm sure you will find this interesting for this who want some more raw numbers. A bit outdated but I'm sure the numbers are fairly constant over the years.

Surprises (imo): South Carolina, Michigan State, Wisconsin

Forbes.com: The Most Valuable College Football Teams (11.20.2007)

We did a thread on that when it came out. The article analyzed programs as if they were businesses, measuring not only revenue, but profitability. Forbes does a similar analysis on 5 major pro sports franchises and assigns a market value. Wish they'd update the one on CFB. Although they are not as profitable as professional sports, there is no doubt that college football is BIG business.

Which makes me wonder why a lot of big name programs continue to let homers and lackeys run the show...
  • jake · 5 months ago
I apologize for the repetitive info.

I wonder if there is any data on the Div. 1 CFB programs that create the largest financial deficits due to their operation. I know many programs actually lose tons and tons of money each year just keeping the program operating.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 5 months ago
I've never seen any figures on how many FBS teams lose money on football. I would guess that it's not many. In the lower divisions, it would be more.

The rule of thumb has always been that basketball pays for itself. Football pays for itself AND everything else.

Those are some crazy numbers. I think they have to be overstated. Where did these numbers come from?
  • bigeastfootballtrivia · 4 months ago
Another thing, aren't their more teams?
