I think Hornsby deserves his own sub-thread again...
  • Ben Prather · 6 months ago
Sorry, didn't mean to steal your post...

    Hmmm, what to do...
  • Porcine · 6 months ago
I wonder how long it will take the anthill mob to get here.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
I'm looking for some pithy Ole Miss fans to somehow defend both Powe & Hornsby being on the team...

In the famous words of Katt Williams, "Don't worry...I'll wait!"
  • 1Tomcat · 6 months ago
Thanks TE I didn't realize that Saban & Nutt had over 30+ recruits each year- thats crazy= How many scholarships? Even with injuries and acedemic problems those teams would be 3 deep at every position, now with walk ons how many guys to they carry on a team? 125+ ? Texas usually has about 20 or so schoarships per year and with walk ons and underclassman the roster is around 100 players- thats more than enough.

  • Ben Prather · 6 months ago
By rule you are only allowed up to 25 scholarships per year and a total of 85.

Ole Miss especially signs a significant number of players that are very boarder line academically, knowing that a significant number of them will not make the cut.

So we now find the real secret to Alabama's high recruiting rating. Recruit enough 5 star players that are likely not to make it academically to allow you to get your quota for the year.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
    Ben,

What's actually been happening with Alabama is that he's running kids out of the program.

IE-simply not renewing Shula recruits scholarships, and freeing up ships to give to other kids.

I know for a fact that two marginal kids that Saban got from Louisiana as a way of validating all the time he spends here-DL Darrington Sentimore of Destrehan, and RB Eddie Lacy of Dutchtown-are both in a heap of academic trouble and have not yet become eligible.

I know some folks on the staff at Dutchtown, and they are not-nor have they ever been-optimistic about his chances.

In other words, Saban views Lacy in one of two ways:

1.) A greyshirt candidate, which means he'll either hold off from enrolling immediately until a scholarship opens up, or enroll after a year or two of academic work in JUCO or a prep academy like Hargrave.

2.) A meaningless signee designed to increase the splash on National Signing Day, and prove to the ignorant masses of fans of his program in Tuscaloosa that he's somehow "still got a pipeline" of Louisiana recruits that he signs.

Considering he just took one of our transfers (a 4th string CB that was a 5* recruit out of Mobile 3 years ago that couldn't break through to the starting lineup), along with these kids, I'm pretty sure I know which one of those he's leaning towards.

But, I'm sure our resident Gump fans will tell us how its "part of the process", "relative to" their longterm goal of "having a program that our players & our fans can be proud of" that the team "takes ownership of".
  • The_Observer · 6 months ago
Actually, what Gump fans will tell you, is that they are quite happy with the recruiting Nick Saban has been doing and they love the fact that it upsets corndoggers. I reference the above post as evidence.

Nothing really to complain about here actually.

They get drunked up and get pulled over for DUI's after waiting for their new coach's plane to touch down, him to deboard, and plant gin-soaked kisses on him...

They tattoo ritualistic symbols all over their bodies and cavort around on their campus shirtless wearing Houndstooth kilts.

Their more well-heeled fans routinely pay players, their families, and-when they don't do as they'd like-they intimidate and threaten them monetarily, physically, or vocationally.

What in the WORLD would make you think that I thought your backwoods, backwater, incestual family vine infested, redneck, roodypoo fanbase would be EMBARASSED by a lack of class, scruples, and ethics on the part of your coach?

Taking one look at the toofless wonders amongst your fanbase, its easy to see how you all would cheer no matter what. Were Nick Saban to perform beastiality on the 50 yard line at halftime of your Homecoming game next year, you all would talk about it as if it was "part of the process".

I'll put our recruiting up against his, anyday. Upset? More like concerned for kids that get lied to...

Sad, yet again-typical-that a Bama fan can't see the problem with lying to 18 year old kids...

"They get drunked up and get pulled over for DUI's after waiting for their new coach's plane to touch down, him to deboard, and plant gin-soaked kisses on him..."

You are describing one person here, but sure gerneralize the entire fanbase. And I have never seen any drunken trash wearing LSU gear either.

"They tattoo ritualistic symbols all over their bodies and cavort around on their campus shirtless wearing Houndstooth kilts. "

Again, this is one nutty guy, but let's use him to describe the entire fanbase again...clever.

"Their more well-heeled fans routinely pay players, their families, and-when they don't do as they'd like-they intimidate and threaten them monetarily, physically, or vocationally. "

I have asked you for sources and evidence before with no results, but I will ask again...sources please?

"What in the WORLD would make you think that I thought your backwoods, backwater, incestual family vine infested, redneck, roodypoo fanbase would be EMBARASSED by a lack of class, scruples, and ethics on the part of your coach?"

Again, maybe you can provide something to back up your feelings on lack of class (from a corndogger no less), scruples and ethics.

"Taking one look at the toofless wonders amongst your fanbase, its easy to see how you all would cheer no matter what. Were Nick Saban to perform beastiality on the 50 yard line at halftime of your Homecoming game next year, you all would talk about it as if it was "part of the process"."

Not much substance here, so I will just let it be...kinda backs up my Corndog aggitation theory though.

"I'll put our recruiting up against his, anyday. Upset? More like concerned for kids that get lied to..."

I have no doubt you would, you guys have had amazing recruiting the last few years. Why does it hurt you so much to give Alabama some credit for the past two recruiting classes? Again, I will go with my theory on you guys.

"Sad, yet again-typical-that a Bama fan can't see the problem with lying to 18 year old kids..."

Sad? Please don't be sad for me! It is sad that you focus more on Alabama than your own team..that is what is sad.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
You see...I knew I could goad you into responding to me...Just a few dashes of hyperbole, truth, and objectivity, and I figured you'd come slithering out of your hole...

As for "sources"...I refrained from linking it here the other day, but its well reported in your own statewide media that the Gadsden Dealership I mentioned and alluded to here just after NSD just got raided by the FBI for alleged money-laundering and other issues...

There are a LOT of smoke signals coming from Gadsden, not the least of which emanate from the tailpipes of some new Chargers that were sold four times on the same day, and then the keys of which magically made it into the waiting hands of some Alabama signees...

As for "sources" about intimidation on the part of the Red Elephant Club? Gimme a break...The kid transferred to Alabama after he tried & couldn't at Auburn...His father was JOBLESS in Alabama after coaching there for years...I could tell you more, but the point is, your Crimson colored Wayfarer's won't let you see the truth as plain as the tats on your weirdo fans bare shirted backs...

I could also point to the swift judgement coming towards you on the textbook scandal, or ask you what you've heard about Julio Jones & Mark Ingram taking a nice little cruise that the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa is investigating internally regarding the method of payment the player's used...

But, again, YOU WON'T SEE IT, no matter what...It's an Orwellian-esque toil that I have here, sometimes, but I do take great pleasure in showing you the truth, and the rest of the college football fans here, regarding just what depths you & your fanbase will sink to in order to crow about your team, and how little you care in your quest for wins above all else...
  • The_Observer · 6 months ago
You could have just said you don't have any sources. It would have been more to the point.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
What kind of "source" would you prefer?

You tell me what you would consider "legitimate", The_Obutser...
  • The_Observer · 6 months ago
Let's start with anything but the rumor mill. How about that? You know, something legitimate.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
Whoa, whoa, whoa...Don't get ambiguous on me...

I want to know what you will qualify as a legitimate source.

I know where I heard the information about Phelon Jones. I know where I've got the information on Ingram & Julio Jones. I know I've since had it verified by three outside sources.

I really want to know what you will consider to be a good source.

LSU's Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for Baseball informed me of Alabama's impending Albert Means scandal and the NCAA trouble. He told us all at breakfast before the 2000 SEC Baseball Tournament.

But, pray tell...What would you consider a credible source for, oh...I don't know...The Phelon Jones information, for example...

You tell me what would be a credible source...

    I'll await your answer, first.
  • The_Observer · 6 months ago
It's not up to me to come up with your sources.
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
You don't have to come up with them. I asked what you would consider legitimate sources.

I want to know what the source arbiter himself would consider a good source.

I already have the information. I want to know what you would consider legit.

    Tic...Tic...Tic...

Really? A spelling korrekshon? Dat is preddy laime TE. Korect thiss doosh!
  • TigerEducated · 6 months ago
About as fresh as an Alabama fan dogging out any other fanbase for lack of couth or civility...

    Fair enough.

drunked up -gin-soaked kisses, tattoo ritualistic, Houndstooth kilts, intimidate and threaten, backwoods, backwater, incestual family vine infested, redneck, roodypoo, lack of class, scruples, and ethics, toofless wonders, perform beastiality...

I think this is one for the diary.

    Sounds darn close TC.....LOL
  • 1Tomcat · 6 months ago
I agree this banter between corndoggers & gumps is plum ridickulas- Seems like some Tigers AU or LSU are obsessed with what is going on in Tuscaloosa

I thought it might be interesting to compare the number of players recruited by teams around the southeast over the past few years. Here are the results, per Rivals.com:

    Years 06, 07, 08, 09

    Alabama: 23, 25, 32, 27 Total = 107

    Auburn: 25, 30, 29, 28 Total = 112

    Arkasas: 26, 27, 26, 31 Total = 110

    Florida: 27, 27, 22, 16 Total = 92

    Florida St: 31, 20, 32, 21 Total = 104

    Georgia: 28, 23, 24, 19 Total = 94

    LSU: 26, 26, 26, 24 Total = 102

    Miami: 22, 19, 33, 19 Total = 92

    Miss St: 24, 33, 27, 27 Total = 111

    Ole Miss: 30, 22, 31, 37 Total = 120

    S. Carolina: 24, 31, 23, 29 Total = 107

    Tenn: 22, 32, 18, 22 Total = 94

    Virginia Tech: 22, 26, 31, 22 Total = 101

    Pretty interesting TE.

Tomcat, ya boys finally got the benefit of a tiebreaker. Texas, Baylor, and K-State all were 2-1 in pool play at the Big XII baseball championships this past weekend. Texas got to move on to the championship just because they were the higher seed! Even though K-State 2-0-1 during the regular season against Texas, they got the shaft! It's an outrage! Don't you agree Tomcat? ; )
  • 1Tomcat · 6 months ago
Yes I agree What an outrage
    Hookem
  • Ben Prather · 6 months ago
Can you believe that a team with a losing record can get to the baseball regionals?

    That is the real outrage!!
  • 1Tomcat · 6 months ago
Your right Ben Utah has a losing record
Rice & Baylor can still advance and I'll be pulling for the Owls who deserved a Nat seed- but thats okay win and your in
    Go Owls
  • Clemson_Joe · 6 months ago
There are quite a few teams that got national seeds that didn't deserve it. The most glaring fallacy is how Florida got one and FSU did not.

Oh well, I just want to make it out of our own regional right now. Then we can worry about Tempe, and the CWS.

By the way, Virginia got screwed more than anyone did by not getting a regional. I'm glad to see they handed it to the previously undefeated, potential 1st overall draft pick pitcher out of SDSU yesterday. Up next for the Wahoos is the regional host, Irvine. That should be a great one.

    Go Tigers
    Go ACC
  • Clemson_Joe · 6 months ago
I'm not really sure how that happened, but I guess that explains the 18-2 outing yesterday.
  • Ben Prather · 6 months ago
Utah won the MWC tournament as the 6 seed to get an automatic berth.

They has to beat BYU, TCU twice and SDSU two out of three to get in.
  • Clemson_Joe · 6 months ago
That's a pretty good run. They must've gotten hot at the right time.

It would appear that they've cooled off considerably based on last night's showing. Maybe they'll heat up again.
  • Porcine · 6 months ago
Reminds me of Nolan's 4 in 4 in '02. We almost did it a again but lost to the home team Georgia in the finals.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 6 months ago
Maybe allow for lawsuits against a school if a signee who qualifies is turned down for a schollie ultimately. That might cure the problem. Of course, that might taint the player with the rest of CFB, but what else could you do in lieu of a new rule?
