Fanblogs.com: Coaches Hot Seat releases Week 1 Hot Seat List

  • PittsburghTiger · 1 year ago
I was at the Pitt game expecting SOOOOO much more from our coaches.

Santana Moss once said after Miami beat FSU I think...."Big time players make big time plays."

Pitt's coaches didn't allow the kids the opportunity to make any plays. It was like watching an NFL exhibition game. Let's not try to get too crazy out there. We might raise the excitement level.

ALL momentum from the victory over WVU is GONE
  • PrinceMarko · 1 year ago
Dave Wannstadt is the WORST COACH IN FOOTBALL.

He took my Miami Dolphins with a STACKED team and could not win a playoff game and even didnt make the playoffs one year.... I HATE HIM SO DAMN MUCH!!!!!!!!

Thank god they fired him and recently drafted Henne and Long...
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
I would have to agree. Lets get something strait Wannst"ash" was not the reason that Pitt beat WVU last year it was the players on both sides of the ball that cost WVU that game last year.

On that note you have to hand it to him for his recruiting class every year. What is he doing, lacing the mouthgards in cocaine up there????
  • PittsburghTiger · 1 year ago
That being said. 'Bama looked darn good. Or maybe Clemson stunk that bad. Not sure which. I suspect a bit of both.

    Purty funny stuff Kev
Texas A&M Mike Sherman is #2 on the list. The guy has only coached 1 game- Welcome to the Big-12 Bubba- Too premature to have his name listed- They will lose to Baylor this year
The Aggies fired the winningest coach they ever had RC Slokum
Francione,Jackie Sherril,Emory Bellard and Gene Stallings have all coached at A&M
The Aggies must realize that going 8-5 or 7-6 is still pretty good given the competition. The Fans and Alum have unrealistic expectations- kinda crazy IMO
This program -Texas A&M & Arkansas did not do their program any favors by changing coaches who were proven winners.

I knew ATM should have hired Tuberville, but he's probably waiting until Mack retires, seems like it's an easy slide down that pipeline from Auburn to Austin...
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Nutt was 75-48, 30 wins coming against non-BCS, 25-8 against Texas, Ole MIss, Miss. State, and South Carolina, .500 or below against everyone else. Well, he was 1-0 against Missouri with Herring at 0-1 for net of 1-1. He did win 3 division titles, sort of. In 98, with Ford's players, he tied Mississippi State, who beat us thus giving them the tiebreaker. In 02 Alabama was ineligible, In 06 the scheduling worked out so we won it over LSU, who beat us. What exactly has he proven?
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
I think that Willingham and Wanny are in the most trouble. Washington should have come out more ready to go. Oregon even lost their 2nd string QB in the game - and the 3rd stringer rolled em' up like wholesale carpet. That is ridiculous! Wannstedt has underperformed for several years now. We keep expecting for the Cats to improve - and they never do. How can you have the best RB in the country and only manage seventeen points against Bowling Green? They should have been able to just slam it up BG's azz.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I totally agree with you Startacus, Pitt has every thing in place to be successful, Alumi Base, Fan Base, History & recruiting. The expectations were real high after Wannsetts hire and now- losing a home opener against Bowlin Green. The Panthers are probably shopping around right now for a replacement. Todd Grahamn- Tulsa Has done a whole lot with hardly anything Tulsa & Rice are the two smallest Div-1-A schools in the nation and he still wins.

SDSU is a huge disappointment if talent vs output is the measure.

Wyoming will not get rid of a coach before their contract expires. Frankly they can't blame the coach if they don't fund the training facilities. Joe Glenn is doing well with what he has.
  • Frank Davis · 1 year ago
I agree - Long has had his three years with declining results. My school needs a coach to bring in discipline, not be the players buddy. So long, Chuck.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Did Clemson Joe put you up to this list?
  • PeteInPitt · 1 year ago
I'm not a fan of giving the coach a vote of confidence after a game 1 like that (re: Dave Wannstedt) but I'm not ready to throw in the towel either. Another loss because of mismanagement and maybe the frustration will get the better of me but right now I am still in wait and see mode.
  • 4cornerz · 1 year ago
Dave Wannstedt is a great recruiter, but a horrible coach. He needs to open up the offense more and take more risk. Tell Dave it is college football.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I think Mike Sherman needs a little bit more time.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Aw Lennie, one game should be enough for any Coach..
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Yeah, considering Arkansas State had Texas on the ropes last year. This was supposed to go under Lennie's.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Is losing to The Arkansas State doggone Red Wolves embrassing on your home field....Y-E-S! But the man just began coaching there. Texas thought that the name across their jerseys where going to strike fear last year into Akansas State BUT it didn't!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
He will get plenty more time- 11 more games including Miami,OK State,Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Colorado & Texas, look for trouble at Waco too
Thank goodness they dont have KU or Missu on their schedule.
If they would just run the ball with both running backs and develope a kicking game they will be alright, alot of teams start off kinda sloppy during the season opener- att. coach Briles at BU, but at least BU lost to a top 25 team and not an unranked from theSun Belt.
  • cdogg · 1 year ago
There is NO WAY that Fulmer should be on this list. Most programs would kill to have this guy roaming the sideline for their school.
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
He seems to have trouble when Cutcliffe isn't there.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Speaking of Cutt...

My money is on Duke being in the mix for a ACC Divisional title by as soon as next season...

Cutt will be pulling a "Spurrier" on some folks up there real soon...

Look for a few surprise wins by by the Blue Devils by seasons end...
  • Regan · 1 year ago
I say fire any coach that hasn't already won a national championship before they get a chance to screw up their team.

You are either born with it or not. No need for learning, development, or excuses.

Don't even hire a coach unless you can get one that has a national championship, and fire him the second he loses.

This will contribute to better football teams.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Heck tie their hands behind their backs, tell them what to do and then when they go 8-5 run them off and pay someone else more money to go 3-9 see Texas A&M & Arkansas
  • RazzMaTazz · 1 year ago
Tommy Bowden just got a contract extension a few months ago with a $4M buyout (decreasing by $500k/year). Ain't no way Clemson is going to do bad enough make Clemson cough up a big buyout.
  • Big B · 1 year ago
Rich Rod had that same buyout clause. Once the lawyers get involved, TB would end up with a few hundred thousand and a multimillion dollar legal bill. They will pay less than the paper suggests, and he will take it and go on his merry way. To do any less when you are on the short end (i.e. fired, unlike Rich Rod who was in demand and leaving on his own), will make it even more difficult for TB to get another job. He will leave quietly and with class, because good or not at his job depending on where you stand, he does seem to have class and he definitely will want to find another job without the baggage of a public battle like the WVU-Rodriguez soap opera..
  • RazzMaTazz · 1 year ago
I've read Bowden's contract cover to cover. There are a specific causes for termination, but poor on-field performance is not one of them. Bowden's contract is airtight. If Clemson fires him for on-field performance, Clemson will have to pay him the buyout, unless for some reason, Bowden simply decides to let Clemson off the hook. I don't see that happening.

Bowden has often said that he doesn't plan on coaching that much longer, so I think there's a very good chance that he would take a buyout and retire. If anybody offered him a head coaching job, it would be a notch below Clemson at a school like Tulane. He'd have the choice of taking a step down for less money, or retiring lakeside in South Carolina. I'd expect the latter.

Wyoming's Joe Glenn is a good head coach.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Someone disagrees, he's # 12 on the list..
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
Move Steve Spurrier up to # 2 please. And, using Regan's criteria, he should be fired like yesterday. Maybe they can coax Terry Bowden out of retirement.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
No way. Spurrier is God at South Carolina. His seat is as cold as it ever was. If anything, they'll simply demand that the play calling be taken out of Jr.'s hands and put back in the capable hands of Darth Visor.
  • Big B · 1 year ago
You have that exactly right. Look for the play calling to change in the next few weeks if things do not improve. Vandy got them two years in a row, and if this season goes downhill early, I would expect Spurrier to be calling all plays by the time they face Florida.
  • Rackman · 1 year ago
As a rule Clemson does not win big games. They have been my team since I walked through their doors in 1955, so I'm talking from witnessing more than 200+ games. As an Alabama native I'm well aware of the history of the Tide. It was just hard to believe the pundits who say a Clemson victory in that one,.
