As a rule Clemson does not win big games. They have been my team since I walked through their doors in 1955, so I'm talking from witnessing more than 200+ games. As an Alabama native I'm well aware of the history of the Tide. It was just hard to believe the pundits who say a Clemson victory in that one,.

I've read Bowden's contract cover to cover. There are a specific causes for termination, but poor on-field performance is not one of them. Bowden's contract is airtight. If Clemson fires him for on-field performance, Clemson will have to pay him the buyout, unless for some reason, Bowden simply decides to let Clemson off the hook. I don't see that happening.

Bowden has often said that he doesn't plan on coaching that much longer, so I think there's a very good chance that he would take a buyout and retire. If anybody offered him a head coaching job, it would be a notch below Clemson at a school like Tulane. He'd have the choice of taking a step down for less money, or retiring lakeside in South Carolina. I'd expect the latter.

You have that exactly right. Look for the play calling to change in the next few weeks if things do not improve. Vandy got them two years in a row, and if this season goes downhill early, I would expect Spurrier to be calling all plays by the time they face Florida.

Rich Rod had that same buyout clause. Once the lawyers get involved, TB would end up with a few hundred thousand and a multimillion dollar legal bill. They will pay less than the paper suggests, and he will take it and go on his merry way. To do any less when you are on the short end (i.e. fired, unlike Rich Rod who was in demand and leaving on his own), will make it even more difficult for TB to get another job. He will leave quietly and with class, because good or not at his job depending on where you stand, he does seem to have class and he definitely will want to find another job without the baggage of a public battle like the WVU-Rodriguez soap opera..

No way. Spurrier is God at South Carolina. His seat is as cold as it ever was. If anything, they'll simply demand that the play calling be taken out of Jr.'s hands and put back in the capable hands of Darth Visor.

He will get plenty more time- 11 more games including Miami,OK State,Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Colorado & Texas, look for trouble at Waco too
Thank goodness they dont have KU or Missu on their schedule.
If they would just run the ball with both running backs and develope a kicking game they will be alright, alot of teams start off kinda sloppy during the season opener- att. coach Briles at BU, but at least BU lost to a top 25 team and not an unranked from theSun Belt.

My money is on Duke being in the mix for a ACC Divisional title by as soon as next season...

Cutt will be pulling a "Spurrier" on some folks up there real soon...

Look for a few surprise wins by by the Blue Devils by seasons end...

I would have to agree. Lets get something strait Wannst"ash" was not the reason that Pitt beat WVU last year it was the players on both sides of the ball that cost WVU that game last year.

On that note you have to hand it to him for his recruiting class every year. What is he doing, lacing the mouthgards in cocaine up there????

Dave Wannstadt is the WORST COACH IN FOOTBALL.

He took my Miami Dolphins with a STACKED team and could not win a playoff game and even didnt make the playoffs one year.... I HATE HIM SO DAMN MUCH!!!!!!!!

Thank god they fired him and recently drafted Henne and Long...

Tommy Bowden just got a contract extension a few months ago with a $4M buyout (decreasing by $500k/year). Ain't no way Clemson is going to do bad enough make Clemson cough up a big buyout.

I say fire any coach that hasn't already won a national championship before they get a chance to screw up their team.

You are either born with it or not. No need for learning, development, or excuses.

Don't even hire a coach unless you can get one that has a national championship, and fire him the second he loses.

This will contribute to better football teams.

Nutt was 75-48, 30 wins coming against non-BCS, 25-8 against Texas, Ole MIss, Miss. State, and South Carolina, .500 or below against everyone else. Well, he was 1-0 against Missouri with Herring at 0-1 for net of 1-1. He did win 3 division titles, sort of. In 98, with Ford's players, he tied Mississippi State, who beat us thus giving them the tiebreaker. In 02 Alabama was ineligible, In 06 the scheduling worked out so we won it over LSU, who beat us. What exactly has he proven?

I'm not a fan of giving the coach a vote of confidence after a game 1 like that (re: Dave Wannstedt) but I'm not ready to throw in the towel either. Another loss because of mismanagement and maybe the frustration will get the better of me but right now I am still in wait and see mode.
