Fanblogs.com: Coming soon: Another Miami-Notre Dame game?

  • cdogg · 1 year ago
Thery won't sign on the dotted line. They are scared of us.

I remember the 80's....that's why I hate Notre Dame Football.

    Go Canes!
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
I'm still trying to figure out how Lou Holtz is getting in the College FOotball Hall of Fame... he put every school he EVER coached on probation...

NC State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, South Carolina

He even got the NY Jets in trouble for tampering with players beofre the season was over...

    He's a vile human being...
  • Regan · 1 year ago
Agree on all points. The games of the 80's were epic, and among the last of the era of the great Eastern Independents, which is why the rivalry was such a natural one despite its inter-sectional nature.

This series MUST now be renewed. Anything less and the sheer angst of let down will be overwhelming and I won't be able to even think about College Football for a whole day.

BTW, TampaGator...please toss us an insult, your post was remarkably objective and complimentary (and true) and it's kinda freaking me out. :)
  • hricane23 · 1 year ago
    Regan,

You beat me to the punch about TG's polite post. But instead of asking for an insult, I thank you, TG, for pointing out that the Convicts v. Catholics game was absent of any convicts.

As for the rivalry, obviously, it would be great to renew it. But there are simply too many teams I want a piece of to make it an annual affair.

The old AD, Paul Dee, didn't have to try to make a name for himself. The new guy is being forced with making a name for himself since he's new and, I think, pretty young. He's also forced with bringing new excitement to the program. I can think of no better way to do that than to beat marquee programs, no matter how "down" they've been lately. Beating ND is still beating ND, no matter how down they are. Just ask Ga Tech, Penn St., Michigan, Mich St., Purdue, BC, USC, Navy, and Air Force.

A new place to play, new DC, new QB, all sorts of highly touted recruits, 2nd year HC and OC, and now, possibly, a newly renewed rivalry? Man, there's a lot to get excited about. All we're missing is new uniforms that we can all opine about!
  • Regan · 1 year ago
hricane23, I continue to cite my fundamental belief that every single one of Miami's struggles since 2004 have been due to the abandonment of the 2000-2003 uniform design.

    Every single one. Period.

    Kevin:

You forgot Catholics v. convicts--though that was primarily regarding the '88 game, and ironically---Miami had more cat's on its roster, than Notre Dame, and of course, neither actually had any convicts.

If you follow recruiting, I think it's safe to say they'll both be back at '80's levels in terms of talent--before they could even schedule a game if they wanted to.

FYI: '85, Miami masacred ND to the tune of 58-7 (or so), then like 28-0 in '87; that's what made the '88 game such a big deal: Notre Dame's revenge match, in which they squeaked out a 1 point win on a failed 2 pt conversion--amidst some controversy.

...but yeah, would be great to see that one revived!

    GO GATORS!!
  • Joe · 1 year ago
So...how many national titles did you say the Gators have....smile.....you lost 3 times to the Hurricanes within 12 months...that alone has to be a Gator record....you may have a shot at us this season...maybe.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
I didn't say anything about how many NC's UF has, because, among other reasons, it would have absolutely ZERO bearing on Notre Dame v. Miami...you know, the topic of the thread!?!?.

...which begs the question, what the hell does any of your post have to do at all with Miami v. Notre Dame?

...and "smile" ??? ...you sound gay, to boot.

I think I'll flag your POS post as inappropriate (...thank you for the opp'y; I've been itching to find out what that feature is all about).

    ...loser...

So, what DOES happen? And how much "street cred" do I need to vote on posts?
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Apparently nothing. A box comes up, and you can confirm or cancel. I confirmed, and nothing happened...

    ...but my curiosity was satisfied!

Wow. A logical post from a Gator. Nice work Tampa. How come more guys like you don't hang around CanesTime? We get all the smack-talking, Gator rejects there who lack any sense of reason or accountability.

Bring back Miami/Notre Dame in a few years when both programs turned it around. Agreed.

As for 1988, that was the snow-jobs of snow-jobs. Cleveland Gary didn't fumble. The refs gave 'em that one and cost Miami back-to-back-to-back titles.

Curious to see what Notre Dame officials deem a "neutral" site. They'll probably want Miami to come to Soldiers Field. Clowns.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I would just like to see Miami & ND return to respectability. Seasons like 5-7 & 3-9 just aren't natural. Besides, their fans don't deserve it. As for bringing the series back between these 2, hell yeah, lets do it for at least 20 seasons; make that 21, with every 3rd game on a neutral site. Giant's stadium wouldn't be bad, but Arrowhead stadium would be better. Not only is it just about in the middle of the country, but I could go.

The Catholics/Convicts thing, people love slinging that around; it brings hype to the game. So long as nobody interviews some ND Altar Boy spouting the significance of this game as being akin to good vs. evil, or angels vs. demons. That kid was wacked!!!
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
It'll never be as big nor exciting as those games in the '80s...

The Citrus Bowl in Orlando has been pressing for a neutral site game like crazy, even asking Army & Navy... Florida won't play there, F$U won't play there, but Miami may...
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
If the Citrus Bowl actually starts and completes the budgeted renovations, they are slated to host two future FSU games (2011 & 2012).
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
Good for them, they've been pinched between Tampa & Jacksonville, but the Citrus Bowl needs some MAJOR improvements, it smells like piss...
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Among other problems, yes... it does.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Yes, very pungent, not 'citrusy' at all...

You should have smelled some of the back alleys around Church Street Station during New Years' back in the day...

    Regan/Hricane23/Cane305:

Gentlemen: my apologies for the uncharacteristic civility between our schools, and hereby "fawt" in yor general dI-rection...

    Better?

    J/K.

One can harbor strong feelings for or against a program, and still formulate objective, factually based opinions about them. The truth is truth...it ain't that difficult...

b/t/w: one other note about that '88 game: As alluded to above, ND was fighting for pride (due to the ass whoop'ns); Miami was also fight'n for pride, and just plain pissed off--because, aside from having the "cons" lable hung on them, after winning 3 NC's ('83, '85 & '87), and pissing all over ND the preceeding 2 meetings, the national storyline was still:

    ...Notre Dame's return to glory!

...remember the scuffle in the tunnel before the game?

Good stuff...definitely bring this one back!

As a die hard Cane fan for many years, this is the one team I will pay top dollar to go see in person. I don't care if they played at a neutral site or up in South Bend, I will be there. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than ND. I still regularly watch the game where Erickson tossed the ball to Thrill Hill on 3rd and 42, only to get 43 yards and a first down. I agree both teams need to be in a better state for the game to have some importance. GO CANES!

clash of the has beens... will be an instant classic
  • cdogg · 1 year ago
Hokie Pokie?..as in Virginia Tech Fan????

Do you want to remind me what " Has Been" program has won a natinal title THIS DECADE?
Is it Virginia Tech???? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. No. Miami??? Yes.

Even Notre Dame has won a title since V/Tech.
  • hokie_pokie · 1 year ago
C-Dogg...no animosity here brother peace; fellow ACC member. I'm just stating the facts. Who do pick realistically to win the ACC? My pick Clemson. I think we will contend for the coastal vs. UNC.
  • cdogg · 1 year ago
I guess that's the difference between programs. V-tech fans dare not mention national title....just winning the ACC . When Miami was rebuilding with Butch Davis, we never mention winning the Big East......instead we focused on how long it would take to start playing for national titles again.

I've seen this cycle before with my Canes. When we ruined the UCLA Bruins season on that Hurricane makeup game, that was the start of the run. It will happen again....sooner than later.
  • hokie_pokie · 1 year ago
Yeah we have no NT's...How many ACC titles does Miami enjoy? Cane fans quit living in the past. The U sucks in the present. Hopefully U will make a bowl game this season.
  • BadBart · 1 year ago
Be nice to go get Ohio State and beat some sense into them. It stills ticks me off about that bs flag at the end of the game....

The Domers are too busy worrying about regaining the Commander in Chiefs Trophy this year by defeating Navy.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Is it just me, or would Nebraska make a great team to throw into this mix?
  • BallDogs1 · 1 year ago
    i.
  • Richard · 1 year ago
Bet if they held a reunion of the teams that played from both teams from 1971 - 1990, the u would live up to its nickname of the convicts (or for some ex-convicts). Do a goggle search on university of miami and arrests
  • BallDogs1 · 1 year ago
it's called a typo mr word police man.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I bet they'd play it in Atlanta...
  • BallDogs1 · 1 year ago
Tampa Gator Guy, what is your problem? If I wanted to be called douchebag or dummy or fag or something else...I would not have started posting on this site to get it done. What makes you and your Florida State team perfect or almighty or undefeated? The answer is nothing. Were you national champs in football last year? No, then shhhhhhh. How about softball> No, then shhhhhhhh!. Lets see how about baseball? No, then shhhhhhh. If it makes you better to call somebody names to vent then by all means. But it is not very gentlemen lioke to do so. Man up. Class up. Or lay off the bath water big guy!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
How does one pronounce "lioke"? Maybe it's the bathwater, but I just can't figure that one out.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Think Bill Murray in SNL...the "douchebag" thing might be taken with a little grain of salt.

...is that per chance, a confession to posting under a different handle (a direct violation of Ariticle I, Section A, 2. (or some such) of Fanblogs Comment Policy) since it was directed at another poster ("Truechamp")?

...which further begs the question: are you "Joe" above? How about "Abbey 007" (trak'n my posts)?? Whatever.

b/t/w: "...Your Florida State team..." hilarious...reminds me of an elderly Aunt who gave me a FSU sweatshirt as a birthday present one year, cause she didn't know the difference between the two (she was from up north).
