Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
If they could make these out of the Sham Wow material, you could just sit there and uriniate and have no worries in the world...
I love those things!
What a combination *that* would be.
Will the Sham Wow soak up hooker blood?
I guess not...
But then he done seen the Auburn one and he wansta get one fer my grandmother/great aunt fer Mother's Day...or as we call it 'round these parts: Female Relative Day...
Wouldn't you like to know, WEA...
;)
If someone is your parents first cousin, it makes them your second cousin.
So my joke was that my mother and father were first cousins...you know, the typical Alabama stereotype, right??
Do you own one yet?
Go on ahead, TE, he asked for it; it's your turn.
[Alex Trabeck]:The answer is, "Someone using 'BamaBorn' as their Fanblogs Username asking you why you think you know where they come from"...TE, you were first on that one...
[TE to Alex Trabeck]:What is the definition of irony, Alex?
[Alex Trabeck to TE]:That's right...TE, as only an idiot from Alabama would use a screen name of "BamaBorn", and then later ask you why you felt you like you knew where he was from...You remain in control of the board...
There's a number of ways you could be wrong...
Dude could be a member of the Native American tribe that the state was named after but yet been born in an entirely different area of the country altogether...
Or...
Maybe his father is a member of the CHoF band Alabama...
Or...
Perhaps he came slip sliding into this world aboard the USS Alabama...
Or...
Possibly just been born in the state of Alabama while his family was visiting there from another state and he has never actually lived in Alabama nor has any familial connections there...
And BTW...
What you're referring to as irony isn't ironic at all...
As for another possibility, I was thinking more simply a non-resident student of the U of A, who may even have one or both parents who were rabid alumni, thus inspiring him(her?) to be so. In the words of Judy Tinuta, "It could happen..."
Or maybe he was a transfer from another school and became "born" again...
Like Grandma & Grandpa used to play/
Then I'll float on down the River/
To the Cajun Hideaway/
The music of my youth...Geezus...
1. Re. Irony: For proper use of the word "ironic", one should always begin with the Alanis Morrisette song...
(...in the process of deduction that is; it is afterall, a relatively decent song; just completeley off-base in its use of the word "ironic"...);
e.g.: isn't it ironic, that a song entitled "Isn't it Ironic", completely misuses the word "ironic"?
2. That said, none of your alternative explantations for "bamaborn" would explain the University of Alabama icon (i.e. Avatar) he used.
Hence "BamaBorn" (suggesting an abbreviation for "Alabama born & raised"--else, why the hell would it matter where he was born?), + U. of 'bama icon + comments on "...where I'm from..." = resonable grounds to conclude that BamaBorn is from the State of Alabama.
IMO, TE's deduction was well founded--particulary for the limited purpose of posting on a CFB cite, in jest.
Point for TE (though he's remains woefully in the red on several other fronts).
GO GATORS!!
Note the first line of my post...
And as a side note...
The fact that the majority of the situations in the song you're referring to are not ironic is exactly why the song was named so...
Yeah, I saw the first line--so what? How's that change anything? TE's inference/assumption was not only well founded, it's the ONLY ONE that explains the bama icon. It's solid; the dude's either from Alabama, or busted for pretending to be from Alabama. Either way, TE called him on it (or called his bluff).
Re. your side note: I ain't buyin' it. I still think she was too cool for school, and she didn't really get "irony"--but she thought she did, and figured she'd pen a little diddy to show off her brilliant linguistic mastery, only to imortalize her ignorance on the matter, before the world...
...oh the irony.
GO GATORS!!
Well...
It certainly changes my perception of your reading comprehension level given that I noted that our fried carnie treat friend was probably correct and then simply pointed out some ways he could be incorrect...
Which was intended to be humorous not a slight and not only TC and Zac picked up on but the Corndogger himself as well...
Sadly, it seems you needed it explained to you...
TE's inference/assumption was not only well founded, it's the ONLY ONE that explains the bama icon.
Not necessarily; as I pointed out above...
As well as TC & Zac pointed out other options as well...
And even though he uses a Bama logo as his icon it still doesn't necessarily mean that one of the other options I suggested could be why he chose to use the 'BamaBorn" moniker...
He might just be a huge Red Alage fan which is why the Bammerlogo is in there as well...
As far as the "irony" discussion goes...
If you would like to continue it, I'll more than happily head on over to the Open Thread and give you a lesson...
;-]
BamaBorn This is a line from the song London Homesick Blues
Ordinarily, I wouldn't trust any product sold on TV unless it is pitched by Billy Mays.
But the Snuggie is priceless!
Mostly though, non believers come over to my place and see them and start bashing them. So, usually I will fill up a glass with water, put one in it for a few seconds, and pull it out and the glass is completely dry.
On the downside, you really can't wash them. You can rinse them with water and wring them out, and then set it out to dry, but that's about it.
Can I get one with a single gigantic Drum and Feather logo?
What do you think the OU chick is suggesting with that hand gesture????
It looks like Auburn has come up "short" yet again..................
Personally, Ron Popeil (sp?) is the undisputed king info-mercials! The Showtime Rotisserie ROCKS!

Dude...Who else cut an ESPN commercial? I mean, talk about crossover appeal...
Having said that, Vince from Sham-Wow Fame is awesome...No one will EVER top the Slap Chop commercial...NO ONE...
I'll bet it took him all of one take for that bad boy, too...
I gotta agree with you on that. Billy Mays doing the ESPN commercials is hilarious. I think he even has one with the wife and kids and every one of them has the deep-black dyed beard...lol.
I skeptically (is that a word...lol) bought the Showtime Rotisserie years ago when it came out and used it twice. Not impressed. Plus the wife hated cleaning it because of all the parts. Just gave it to my Pops a month ago and he loves the damn thing...go figure.
As far as Vince;
Got a bud who bought the Sham-Wow and he says the only thing true about the product is the name...."Sham". Something about it not even being worthy of toilet paper...IDK.
I wanted the Miracle Blades for the longest time but the Showtime Rotisserie ruined me...until they had 'em in the mall during Christmas. I watched the guy demo the knives for half an hour and he did everything the guy on the commercial did so I bought a set. Them babies are still razor sharp after 5 years of heavy use.

A guy that wears the Snuggie does not drink beer and eat pizza. He drinks wine coolers and eats veggie burgers, IMO.

Ya know how else we can tell this weener doesn't drink beer?

I would have done it, and made the hook'em horns sign if they asked.
The "devil" sign requires one to hold said fingers upright while pressing the the tips of the thumb, middle and ring finger together flatly and extended away from the palm...
I experimented with gang signs to represent Auburn, but all I came up with was fashioning the fingers to form a 'W' and an 'E', for War Eagle...
I'm so hip...
You'll see many folks flashing it with the middle and ring finger behind the thumb and rounded out from the palm...
That's from the Black Sabbath days when RJ Dio would make the sign at the end of the show with his guitar pick pinched back between the fingers and then flick it out into the crowd but ending the motion as I described above...
You'll also see a similiar sign made by the Illuminati (allegedly) in the fashion you're describing but with the middle and ring fingers pressed back against palm and covered with the thumb...
However, the way I'm speaking of actually will give you a "goat head" look...
And yes...
You're one of the hippest guys I know...
BTW...
If you ever wanted to start a Fab Four cover band with some of your Plainsmen friends there in Atlanta; I've already got a name picked out for you...
The WEAtls...
Texas Tech,Texas A&M,TCU and Baylor all have hand signs- do any SEC or ACC teams have them?
I don't see the problem...
