Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
I am glad to see Wyoming get a much needed focus on discipline. Hopefully the positive attitude can infect the fans. Wyoming is notorious for having fans that boarder on unsportsmanlike.
Another strong MWC team is good for the conference. Can they beat Texas or Colorado? Not likely, though I am not sure Texas is used to playing at high altitude with garbage swirling around the field...
SDSU is another program in the MWC I am waiting to see signs of life from. If the MWC is the conference they think they are the bottom of the conference needs to win most of their OOC games. They can't be losing to Cal Poly.
Wyoming has beaten a number of mediocre to good BCS teams over the past 10 years. Christensen just might be able to bring them on par with the Maryland's or North Carolina's of the world. Even if he can't get the recruits, if a kid with potential is looking for a chance to play, when the better teams don't come a call'n, there are always places like Wyoming.
I still think the MWC needs to pick up Boise St, Houston, & Tulsa. JMHO...
can't wait- after all the Longhorns are weak. Look we hear that sh-t every year.
Looking forward to the game. BTw too bad it aint Utah-Wow
Hookem-Horns The real #1 in the B-12
Who is Tenn?
Nope no memory of that team...
What did they do? Have they been to a BCS bowl this century?
(This in a Wyoming thread...)
Wasn't Michigan a big deal for Utah last year, even though they sucked out loud? Why might that be, Ben?
Could it be that they're one of 4 or 5 programs that can fill a stadium up with 100,000+ fans every single homegame? The others of course, being OSU, Penn State, USC (not really every week, but...), and...
Tennessee.
Could it be, that Michigan--like Tennessee--is a blue blood football program that earned its (their) cred long ago, and established a name(s) for itself nationwide, long ago?
Whatever, right? Let's just pretend that Tennessee doesn't matter---especially when Utah has to borrow fans from Alabama to sell out a BCS Bowl game---in a year in which they went UNDEFEATED* no less....
...just keep peddling the that MWC cherished notion (read: fallacy) that attendance, fan interest, profitability, moving product...none of that matters in college football--it's only and all about who can field the best team...
....as you speak of Coach Meyer and Utah in the past tense; you know--because it doesn't really matter if you win at Utah, or Florida, or Wyoming....or Tennessee...
'sall the same.
GO GATORS!!
What did the Michigan win mean to Utah? I thought Michigan was better than they were at that time but the conclusions are still valid.
As part of my efforts to improve the BCS I included a revenue sharing concept to Charles Bloom of the SEC. The first team from each conference earns that conference 9 million, any additional teams and independents get 4.5 million and the rest (54 Million) is split according to the sum of the average home attendance of each conference's members. Of corse I avereged this number over 4 years.
C-USA and the MWC are underpaid by about 3 million a year by this method, the SEC, MAC and WAC are underpaid by about 1 million, the Big 12 Big 10 and Sun Belt are paid about right, the PAC 10 and ACC are over paid by about 2 million and the Big East is over paid by about 5 million.
C-USA actually has more fan base, based on attendance figures, than the Big East and the MWC would pass them with the inclusion of Boise State.
I wish the BCS did rely more on attendance, fan interest, profitability and moving product.
It is based too heavily on the size of the TV market with too little focus on the saturation of that market. Does it matter that your school is in New York City if the people of New York City don't care? Is SDSU the most valuable team in the MWC?
The game is up there and you got to earn the win
These type of games are what the media call trap games- Bullsh-t
These are two teams head to head- at their place
I know those Wyoming boys are going to give it a 100% and you expect that from every opponent against Texas. For every team Texas plays you know this is like their big shot to pull off the big one- purty cool for Longhorn fans.
Hookem-Horns
Just give us a multiple choice exam at the end, Kev!
I bet you like all the new striped/ swooshed/ tacky-as-hell uniforms???
?????
I own a Wyoming Cowboy t-shirt...
high school logo. I'm a little biased because my high school used the
exact same logo except yellow. All in all IMO I don't like it.
I went to a catholic high school(being a non-catholic) and our fight song was Notre Dame's... I used to cringe as I ran out onto the field...
Was it the music, or carrying that big 'ol tub of Gatorade that caused you to cringe?
GO GATORS!!
Like this is some kind of "new" approach to coaching???
LMAO!!!
Please...
It's still Wyoming...
Honestly I can't stand their uniforms and I think it'd be great if they would change that, but whatever. Best of luck to them anyway.
There is little love lost between Utah and Wyoming. And that is from a zoob message board.
This post is an excellent introduction to the intensity of the three way rivalry. That said, there is no way the hatred of the pokes will ever compare to that for the team down south (whose name, nor a basketball team from near Louisville, should never be mentioned at a Utah message board.
P.S.
Sorry Dustin Draper and any other BYU or Wyoming fans that might take offense, just educating these east coasters a little.
call me a tight wad- guess i need to call my provider- na
Hookem-Horns
Any good sports bar should have it.
EDIT:
This game is on Versus. This channel is on most local cable networks. Just flip until you get to either hunting, fishing or a rodeo.
You mentioned good sports bars- I live in a rural area- no sports bars
only ethnic beer joints
I'll probably find it at a friends house or something- thanks

I guess I'll probably add it or change providers at some point.
We used to have cable TV and we had all kinds of stuff, but by changing companies our TV bill was reduced by 50% and we still get alot of good stuff. Versus is not on my current plan- its cool- I have relatives with Direct TV- I'm going to watch it no problem- Hookem-Horns
I hope you can throw a big loop with that lariat boy, because the Horns are gonna whip yall bad

I would like to state that any disparaging remarks made towards Wyoming have been directed related to the fact that the rivalry between our schools is long, historic and intense. When coaches are acting in an unsportsmanlike manner you know the rivalry is intense.
The only thing I disparaged, really was the school colors. I have said nothing about the people here. I did link to a BYU sight that captured the typical Utah/BYU attitude towards Wyoming for educational purposes for those east coasters that dominate this sight.
Please don't take us too seriously, we pick on everyone equally. Just be glad your not from Alabama ... We are merciless to the fine folks of Alabama.
I have no idea where OU_Ron gets his information from. 83% of the stats on this sight are made up on the spot.
I am looking forward to seeing Wyoming become a bowl regular in the upcoming years. I really believe that the new coach may be the person to turn around an entire state, not just the football program.
Save the energy for the day you get into it with Tiger Educated.
GO MWC!
btw...no offense intended. ;-)
Okay, that was bad...
".....you guys are always so tough on the internet, but when a real cowboy actually calls you on it, you shrink away and then call us names like hick or redneck as you drive away in your vehicle......"
That's about some funny a$$ sh*t right there. So, how's this work? We're to believe you got a laptop computer strapped up to your saddle, or something?
LMAO! <--------(look it up "cowboy").
b/t/w: seems to me that you're the one being the "keyboard cowboy" here.
GO GATORS!!
7220 ft HOWS YOUR OXYGEN!
I want to see the mountains in your eyes,
Oh I've had all of this life I can handle,
Won't you meat me under that big Montana sky
And I am relaxed.....you should see me worked up! ha ha!
as for you ronny boy, we may not go to bowl games every year, but the last time we went......we won (2004), which is more than I can say about the sooners (2003). We also have a top 10 defense pretty damn consistently! Not too shabby if you ask me!
The MWC is a defensive league. EVERYONE in the MWC has a defense.
TCU held Oklahoma to their second lowest point total in 2008. Though Texas also earned the mark, only Florida gave up less. Florida did this by keeping their offense on the field for extended periods of time.
Utah faced one of the best PAC 10 defenses (Oregon State) and a solid SEC defense (Alabama). By far the best defense they faced was TCU.
The MWC as a whole has focused on defense. Offense gets you to big games, defense wins them.
TCU will be much improved in offense this year. Look out.
Do yall have a lot of sticker bushes and cactus? if not I'm envious
Do yall get any rain?
Got to go check on a cow I have in the pen.
Adios Texas @ Wyoming ought to be a good one, heard yall's fans are worst than Colorado's
