Elsie the cow is a trademark of Borden
Borden was a newspaper man in Texas who had to throw his printing press into the river during the runaway scrape as Santa Anna's troops were advancing during the revolution. He was later involved in beef processing and later developed canned milk, which at the time was a tremendous accomplishment. Prior to this ,cows had to be transported on transatlantic voyages. Borden was an experimental businessman who had the vision and ability to become independently wealthy through his perseverance and determination. These pioneering achievements occurred at a time before refrigeration and at a time when electricity was in its infancy. Its a good think that the Mexican army didn't capture Gail Borden, because he would have been assassinated and history would have been altered.
Now here we are over 150 yrs later on a college football blog, which has absolutely nothing to do with the Texas Revolution or the history of food preservation, except that Elsie the cow was used instead of Carnation or Oak farms etc.etc.
Go Huskies whup OU
Had the Mexicans captured Borden, I'm quite sure we would have had Elsie the Goat...
:-)
Milk gives ya' sticky goobers, and pickle juice just sucks.
GO GATORS!!
There was a time in my life when 2 gallons of milk wouldn't last 2 days. Then came a couple of really rough nights spent sitting upon the porcelain god (and I'm talking HOURS), where-by I quite literally came close to dehydration. I thought I'd die when our family Dr. said I couldn't drink milk any longer; that is until he told me I might die if I continued.
Though it doesn't taste quite as good, goats' or sheep's milk is better, and doesn't contain lactose. I've never had it with Nestlé's or Ovaltine; gonna have to try that.
I also recall some years back, there were health food stores offering Tigers' milk. Right!!! I'd like to know how they pulled that off.
That is unless you are lactose intolerant, and it is very perishable.
As for pickle juice, it is more of a traditional source of electrolytes than Gatorade, hearkening back to at least the civil wars days.
As for alternative source of milk, while the extraction process may be nice, I hear the flavor leaves a bit to be desired.
And by the way, I like a cold glass of milk after a long workout. That is, if I ever worked out.
I hate milk so this idea of chocolate milk is terrible, especially while it is hot outside
Now THAT would get the team fired up for the 4th quarter!
Do they drink it from mason jars?
Are they wearing shoes while they drink it?
Do they where overalls while drinking it? A straw hat?
Do they spit out the chaw of Redman while drinking it?
Dill or sweet?
I've seen chocolate milk as a rival to gatorade story in nutrition class and some nutritional mags. It's definitely a tastier alternative. :-)
but coming off the field after a nasty two-a-day, and chugging chocolate milk sounds like a recipe for a yak-fest.
I drank water throughout and then made some chocolate milk after. I thought it was pretty good, and I didn't feel like yakking! ;-)
Geaux Tigers
Geaux Yoo-Hoo
thats cool that it works, in central louisana it is 100 with 106 heat index and 100% humidity, but i have been in the a/c all day ;)
Has anyone heard or tried Muscle Milk? I've seen it at my gym . . . wondered if there is any connection.
On a side note, what do you all think about how Willingham is doing at Washington? I had a friend who was a receiver recruited by Willingham at ND and played 2 years under him, then 2 under Weiss. He loved Willingham and thinks Weiss is the devil. Any thoughts?
Ron, how's fuel prices affecting HE sales these days? I imagine it's not having as big an impact as some might think, being that there are no hybrid dozers on the market yet. People don't have to commute with their Ram 3500, but there are no alternatives with the big machines...
Housings starts and an unstable market IMO has a lot to do with it......
Sorry for the hijack Kev, open up an open thread please......
I kinda miss seeing old Lou driving his little brown Toyota around town. He is a very nice guy in person, and fun to talk to. However, I cannot stand hearing his analysis on ESPN, or his predictions. If the games went the way that Holtz wanted, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Arkansas would play each other in a 3 way game for the National Championship.
My suggestion: Criticize away, but make it factual (Watsa U basis?); make it constructive (Wata canna U do to imprrroova?) Udderwize, uze tawk'n smack, bro. Just FYI.
ND just hired a new AD today who is supposed to be a very good hire. They needed a good hire given the reputation of that job. I hope his experience uncovers the alumni corruption of ND athletics.
Well it's good to see that our little ND haters group is up to population 3 so far.
Mine comes with the caveat that if they lose their NBC contract and join a BCS conference (or the Ivy League, if they continue as they are) my hate will be downgraded to apathy.
Till then a dream college football season include ND not going bowling.
I wonder why all of the apostrophe's (') came out the way they did.
Now they're all better. I don't get it.
And today, the apostrophe's are screwed up again. I'm tell'n ya, these machines iz out ta get me.
It is assumed that if Notre Dame is in if they get nine wins and are in the top 14 as an at large. If they go 10-2 they should be in the top 14. I think 2-10 would be closer this year. A non BCS team would be out at 10-2, though BYU was knocking on the door last year.
Their Bowl agreements are with the BCS, Gator and Sun bowls.
For the gator and sun bowls they are lumped in with the Big 12 and Big East teams as one side of the selection process.
Notre Dame lists the cotton bowl as a bowl partner, but the cotton bowl does not include Notre Dame in its selection process.
and i hate the championship stealers
yea it will grow as the year goes on, especially if they win a game
Instead of drinking milk those boys ought to haul hay & dig post holes all summer, eat beans, rice & cornbread and venision steak- high protein low fat. Stay away from their girlfriends for about a week prior to the game. Then put money in the plate on Sunday and hug their Mamma's neck, then get plum mad dog mean and focus on victory and abstain from negativity, they might have a chance with the right attitude, diet, training and gameplan
Hey Huskies-got milk? do what ? listen you heard it here- well water with a bunch of iron and calcium in it.
