Fanblogs.com: Everyone Take a Moment to Gradulate the Gators on Being National Champs

  • Regan · 8 months ago
I can't criticize her. CFB is more important than anything Washington squabbles about. What she said is more monumental than anything than has taken place in Congress in the past year...because it was about CFB...

I just wish my representatives had the same chance...

I doubt I will yield my throne as the Anti-Playoff Whiner Czar, however...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
They do, Regan. Once you have the floor, you can talk about virtually anything...
  • Regan · 8 months ago
Poor choice of words, sorry...I meant that none of my teams have won the NC to enable our representatives to gloat...

There is a funny story in South Carolina lore where Fmr. Sen. Strom Thurmond fillibustered Congress by reading the phone book aloud, name by name...
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 8 months ago
Yeah, Strom was the king of the filibuster. No telling who's Daddy he was either.
  • Regan · 8 months ago
He dated my grandmother once, I do know that...LOL...
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 8 months ago
Who's ya Daddy Regan, lol. Kidding of course bud. One of my granddaddies sold real estate in Florida with Strom, way back in the day. I don't know if they sold swamp land, or not. If they did, Pop took that to the grave with him.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
    Strom dated EVERYBODY'S Grandmother...
  • OU_Ron · 8 months ago
I already Gradulated them with a lot Hulimation and respectation......I really don't want to do it again.....
  • Ramblin' Gator · 8 months ago
I wish she was my representative. My congressman makes Corrine Brown look brilliant by comparison.

Just don't ax me any question - 'kay?
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 8 months ago
Gradulate??? LMMFAO!! Corch Urban Meyer? She's about as sharp as a bowling ball.

I wood just like to gradulate the Gator on winning anutha BS....uh, BCS vic'try and I 'ppreciate them, everyone. So much so that I named my baby girl after them...Appreciantae.

    Geaux Tigers
    BEAT 'DA HEELS!!!
  • gatorhippy · 8 months ago
I'm actually more embarrassed as a Floridian than as a Gator...

It's bad enough that UF bestowed a ED.S. certificate on someone with such a jarbled command of the english language forcing me to share alumni status with her...

But that people have been voting her back in office since 1993 as the represenatitive to shape national decisions in Congress is mortifying...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
I peeked at her wiki bio and saw Florida A+M and Florida. Didn't know if it was honorary or not. The shocker was her occupation: college professor.

Anyone know if Percy Harvey is related to Steve Harvey?
  • gatorhippy · 8 months ago
Note the lead-in to her WikiBio when searched on Yahoo...

    See the key word there...

    As far as her EdS...

It's not honorary, but the real deal AND she taught courses AT Hogtown U...

No word on whether she ever officially "gradulated" any outgoing Senior classes as the commencement speaker for their respective ceremony...

THAT assuredly would have been special...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
Too funny! I have NO idea how that got there. I originally went straight to Wiki for the bio, bypassing google. Somebody probably added it and deleted it? I've never edited a wiki entry so I'm not quite sure how it works...
  • NMLSooner · 8 months ago
Read the rest of her bio. It is a shame people don't pay more attention what the people they elect do when they are elected.
  • TigerEducated · 8 months ago
    gatorhippy,

Those people are the same ones who voted for your President. Enjoy those results, as well. When you peer at that .mpg up there, you are looking at the face of the modern Democratic Party.

No more political talk from TE...He'll begin to truly offend people by telling the truth.
  • WarEagleFan · 8 months ago
Change,Change,Change we can believe in... now that's all i got in my pockets...
  • Tommy_Trojan · 8 months ago
    TE:

I have always admired your political leanings (can't say the same about your football intellect though), although what you perceive to be offensive, is really very mild for us westerners. I'd start by trying all politicians for "High Treason". We could simply put em' all on a tree, and if any of the ropes broke first, we'd know that they might be telling the truth. That said: I really doubt if we'd lose too many ropes. Yes, I think that Midevil justice should rule the day.
  • TampaGator · 8 months ago
Wasn't able to access the video clip--but from the comments, it doesn't appear that she represents UF very well. However, as GH pointed out, it speaks far more to the House of Reps, and to her constituency, than one of her 3 alma maters--especially the one from which she got her EdS, where she arrived with Bachlors and Masters already in the bag (apparently she peresents better on paper than in person).

Anywhere else we can go to access the clip?

    GO GATORS!!

  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
Your posts are starting to read like Top Secret memos, with everything redacted...
  • TampaGator · 8 months ago
    WEA:

Just a matter of checking myself (political commentary), in the interest of Friday afternoon levity. I'm guessing you received the original posts before the redactions/deletions, so you probably understand.

Not really a big deal, just not the right forum for it, and certainly not the right time for it, so I thought it better to pull back.

    GO GATORS!!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
I didn't see it. If you change it before I have the moderator up, it never existed. No biggee.
  • Hotty_Toddy · 8 months ago
My team's better than the Gators. ;)
  • otowngator · 8 months ago
I thought this was BRILLIANT!! So funny I add to add to my Facebook site last week-end to share with all of my Gator and non-Gator friends. I watch it every time I need a laugh and it never fails to amuse me again.

    GO GATOR!!!!
PS....This is an edited and "doctored" version. If you go to You Tube you can watch the whole speech. There is SOOO much more that wasn't included here.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
I just looked at it. I like her better with the soundtrack. I don't know if I'd go as far as saying it was 'doctored'. 'Enhanced' is more like it.
  • Skip1 · 8 months ago
I was about to try to defend this lady. People of all stripes have trouble un-learning things forced onto them as children, from grammar to racism to culture in general, and language is one of the most difficult to change. And it's not like she is alone in her poor oratory; most House backbenchers can barely string sentences together even with scripts sitting right in front of them. But that video is too funny. Some people just should NOT wing it in front of a video camera. 1-2-3-4-5!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
She was reading off a script. I'm sure it wasn't WRITTEN that way...
  • Zac · 8 months ago
It takes all kinds to make a world. As hard to believe as it may seem, it also takes more than one kind to make a congress, or an entire governement for that matter. I don't know this woman; it won't break my heart if we never meet. Rightly or wrongly, this lady is who she is, where she is, and doing what she's doing, because rightly or wrongly somebody put her there. So, I guess it takes all kinds to make a voting populace. So be it. Who am I to judge. God bless her. God bless the Gators. God bless the people and state of Florida. God bless our troops. And God bless America!!!
  • wvumounties8 · 8 months ago
And I thought Robert Bird was bad. At least he got age as his excuse.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
He's easy to understand once he takes the sheet off his head...
  • wvumounties8 · 8 months ago
Yea, but at least he has his prioties straight. Unlike the rest of us! lol
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
I don't know if you know what I meant by that. Research Byrd and find out what's in his past.
  • wvumounties8 · 8 months ago
Oh believe me, I know exactly what you meant. I am a born and raised West Virginian. So I know ALL about Bob Bird as well as any other WV history. So my response was "tongue in cheek" but meant what I said.

    Heady Lamarr: What's your crime?

    Black Bart: Cattle Rustling.

Heady Lamarr: That's not much of a crime.

    Black Bart: Through the Vatican?

    Heady Lamarr: Kinky! Sign here.

    Black Bart's hands are exposed.

Jim: How many times have I told you to wash your hands after a cross burning?

One of Heady's men pulls off their hoods.

Black Bart: And now for my next impersonation, Jesse Owens.

  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
Okay guys, although this thread involves Congress, let's try to stay away from political discussions, if we can.

However, if you want to engage is such banter with your Fanblogs cronies, perhaps the Fanblogs page on Facebook might be more appropriate?
  • Tommy_Trojan · 8 months ago
See! I've already gone and offended somebody. Jeez! I guess some folks think that everything is just kosher. Man, there I go again. Sure, hope I didn't offend anyone with that remark. I'll try and keep it "politically correct" from now on.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
It's not just you, TT. Even I'm guilty of it. But engage in political discussions for too long, and a hockey game will break out.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 8 months ago
    WEA:

I'm just playin' with TE. I was just wondering if he wanted to argue about that. He likes to argue over everything. I'm sure that he would take the stance of a liberal democrat if he thought he could "enlighten" me.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
I don't think he's very liberal, except with his criticism of Saban and Alabama...
  • Tommy_Trojan · 8 months ago
    WEA:

Well, I'm not so sure. I think that way down inside, there is a "closet liberal" just yearnin' to leap out of TE. I think he'd sell off all of his possessions and move to Haight-Ashbury, if he could ever figure out, how to release himself of the bondage within himself.
  • gatorhippy · 8 months ago
He'd be better off in the woods with the Rainbows...
  • TigerEducated · 8 months ago
That's what you get for thinking, Tommy_T...

You can go right on assuming whatever you like, though...

I can't seem to access this thread from work because they've disabled YouTube...Oh well...
  • Tommy_Trojan · 8 months ago
    TE:

It does seem as though that "Anger Management Therapy" is takin' hold. I'm proud of you. Hardly a whimper back. Now, that's progress! Keep up the good work. And, if you ever need to talk it all out, I'm always here for you. You know that.

Seriously, I could never mistake you for a "flamin' liberal". Your Libertarian ideas have been noted. Yet, if you find yourself ever rootin' for the California Golden Bears, Oregon Ducks or UCLA Bruins (against even the Mighty Trojans), you might want to have another look at your tendancies - as all three of those institutions are deeply liberal.
  • 1Tomcat · 8 months ago
The federal bailout cost each American 38,000 USD
under my proposal instead of paying AIG,GM etc etc
pay each American 38,000 they would in turn pay off debts to banks and lenders and for those who have little debt they would probably invest- thus stimulating the stock market. It just seems that rewarding the responsible parties is an insult to the hard working general public.
Let those big companies fail-heck nobodies going to bail me out
If every American got the money, then it would stimulate the economy.
I dont like the idea of Amerca being in debt to the Chineese
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 8 months ago
Your math is a bit off, TC. With 305M citizens, @$38,000 per, it would equal $11 Trillion and change. The bailout isn't quite that large.
  • TampaGator · 8 months ago
    WEA:

Sadly, you're both correct: $2.2 TRILLION spent; $9.9 TRILLION committed.

(That's actually 12.1 Trillion, but apparently everyone just goes blind after the decimal, and only count the first digit--2+9=11).

    http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/02/04/b...

It's a total short sell. Have you noticed that dollars are a bit more "available" recently? That's what was supposed to happen--in the short term.

Here's the problem though; those dollars were manufactured (printed); they don't represent any real value. So what's going to happen in return, now that we have more $$$ in circulation, is that prices are going to go up....

...and up...and up...and up....until the value of "product" matches the dollars printed. That's how it works--the governing principle of capitalism--value for value; greater value attracks greater value--or, if you prefer, supply and demand (greater supply of dollars, yields lesser demand for a dollar).

Apparently our legislators don't understand these elementary capitalistic principles...or could it be, as the cynics maintain, they know 'em all too well, and understand that the disaster they've set us up for, will present the ultimate opportunity for the gubm't to take over the private sector? ("...never let a good disaster go to waste...")

    God help us.
  • Clemson_Joe · 8 months ago
Very well said from top to bottom.

    God help us, indeed.
  • Porcine · 8 months ago
I think $11 Trillion is the national debt.

I got my numbers from the mayor of Gander Slough Texas and he cant be wrong because he is always Wright.
BTW he laid off 50% of his employees-Oil feild lease services price of oil dropped from 110. per barrel to 42.
We also had a small manufacturing plant shut down laying off 40 people- doesnt sound like much, but in a town of 5,400 its 40 people out of work.
I agree with TG's post below, as you print more the value drops and inflation follows
    Adios Tomcat
  • OU_Ron · 8 months ago
TC, price of oil is back up to $ 53.65 per barrel now....maybe he can hire 2% of em back..........believe me, we track the price of oil....
  • 1Tomcat · 8 months ago
Thanks Ron I hadn't been by the bank lately, Our bank has time-temp and price of oil.
Its always boom or bust in the oil feilds, many of us do something else now after the late eighties.
BTW SH130 is coming thru this area- probably a lot of heavy equipment needed and some jobs, concrete, gravel etc etc

I've never been to Pilot Point- worked in Benbrook in the SW part of Ft Worth-
Probably not as bad as some other locations and really not to far from OK- lot of Lakes up there- world record Blue cat came out of Texoma
