Just wanted to share a link with the rest of you.

This is "The Quad" from the New York Times.

Basically, every day they have a write up about the next team as they rank every team in D1-A from last to first. The write ups are fairly in depth, and quite helpful making it through these hard times known as "the off season".

Cool We just got back from Port A, fished a little bit, caught one purty good spansh mackerel in the surf. We watched a guy fight a big Kingfish for bout 20 minutes- came to the surface several times-beautiful fish 30lbs+
Broke off-mono against barnical covered peir post-still fun to watch. Went out ina boat a few hours-tagged along with a guy from my hometown, that I bumped into.
We wasted a couple of dozen live croakers- couldnt go for the Kings- water was too rough- what the heck -thats why they call it fishing and not catching.
We all got soaking wet, i think the kids enjoyed it even if all we got were a few robbed baits- my neice hauled in a big hardhead-her first fish ever
Bad day fishing is better than-well whatever maybe next time

I forgot to answer you about our gear, it was all artificial. It was double rigs with plastic cochahoe minnows. I don't remember what colors we used that day, but it was easy fishing (almost too easy). They were schooling in about 20' of water near the rigs that weekend. We caught black-tips, that big red and the trout all on the same gear.

If my memory serves me correct, then the limit was around the 14-15" mark maybe 12", but it was about 10 years ago. None of them were huge, the biggest being 22-24" or so (still very nice).

I did catch a 44" redfish on 10# test line and a light tackle reel though! That was a fun fight! Luckily we were in open water and I was able to take it easy. It took about 45 minutes, but it was fun. I took a nice picture with him and released it.

Any size to um? whatcha using-live croaker?
La has some real liberal limits-Texas is only 10 per person/day
min length 15" for specs- Reds are 3 per day 20" min length
BTW I love fresh specs

I spent the weekend soakin' up the sun in Orange Beach. The weather was beautiful.

It was a much needed vacation after stressing about the midterm I took Thursday for my online class. Came home yesterday to find out I scored a 100 on it!

Yep, it was a great weekend.

Only 61 days, fellas!!

By the way, the best spec fishing I have ever had in my life, was out of Venice, LA. I think the 3 of us caught our limit of 25/day each in 2-3 hours each morning. We were there 3 days, so we had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day (i.e. drink ourselves silly). I can't wait to go back!

Specs are more of a brackish water fish, typicallly found in bays and inshore, not so much freshwater.

Ahh...

Thursday: Took off for a dentist appointment-that got cancelled (yes!).
Friday: Went to Barnes & Noble, picked up Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises & Kerouac's On The Road. Hit the Amite River Diversion Canal & went to a pool party. Applied some SPF 30 Imbibed. Imbibed some more. Reapplied some more SPF 30...Went home, hit another friends, grilled some specs (That's Speckled Freshwater Trout for all you non Southerners) my friend caught in the Gulf the day before.
Saturday: Read the Hemingway, from cover to cover, while doing absolutely NOTHING for the 4th of July. Loved it.
Sunday: Lather, rinse, repeat Saturday, only sans reading.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Of course, its no Kenyan Safari with a quick jaunt over to London, like our fearless Fanblogs owner is pulling off as we speak...But, still...it was a NICE 4 day weekend...

I think I was drunk when I was calculating in my head. To make it easier, I assumed for a second that it was 2010, then forgot to subtract that extra year. Then I counted 1776 as the first 'game', as you would in a college football rivalry, but we had to wait until 1777 for our first birthday.

Home alone this Holiday, BBQ'd a NY Strip, drank a bottle of Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet and smoked a glorious cigar...thank you founding fathers.

I'm in Birmingham with my parents, my 8-month pregnant sister & bro in law, and most importantly, a swimming pool... lol

A friend of mine live basically under Vulcan(the iron statue on Red Mtn overlooking the city) where the fireworks will blast away, we usually get covered by fireworks residue, but hey, it's a tradition of heritage...

Everyone have a great 4th, and get yerselves ready for some serious college football discussions come next week...
