haha
BTW, I didn't go. My friend needed that ticket for his sister, so I sat at home and watched it. Everytime I got off the couch, Tech scored. Crazy...
Besides, they were having a 'white-out' and I just don't wear white after Labor Day...
The practice of wearing white only from memorial day to labor day was one of comfort.
Darker colors should be worn during the winter to help keep warm anyways.
congrats G.tech. the better team CLEARLY won. Go Canes!
I'd like to personally apologize for my past actions that may have led to the U's trouble with Ga Tech since joining the ACC. Over a decade ago, I fancied myself a bit of a Yellow Jacket fan. I purchased a Ga Tech Starter jacket, and some hats. They were sort of my 2nd team, behind my beloved Canes, of course.
While I haven't worn the jacket in years, it has remained in my closet... until last night. I have begun exorcising our demons, by following these steps:
Step 1: Urinate on jacket - completed
Step 2: Burn jacket - Pending action for this evening
Step 3: Bury jacket upside down - To be completed once the charred jacket cools off
Step 4: Continue to urinate on jacket's burial plot the night before each meeting, as long as I live in the same house (might be weird to show up to some other guy's house and pee on a certain spot in his yard every year)
The curse will be lifted in time for next year's title run.
And now it's back to my Fanblogs boycott...
Hey, don't be like that. We need ONE Canes fan who actually attended UCG...
The SEC is the best conference! Yes, we are!
Hugs & Kisses,
-TE-
You know, you don't really come into this bar for the drinks as much as you do for the crusty characters you find in it...
Then there's Regan, just below this post. His loyalties would comprise their own foursome for golf...
And then there's Tomcat, who has 8 different documented personalities. And all of them root for teams from Texas...
It wasn't just you....it was that darned Fight Song.
I absolutely love GT's fight song. It's my dad-gum ringtone (I have to change it to The Caesars two days each year...)
Also, I had the wrong combination of alcohol and was wearing my white 'Canes visiting jersey. Had I gone with Boddington's and my orange Andre Johnson #5 jersey, it would have been a huge win. All I had were Woodchuck Ambers, though, so I screwed up on the combination.
Pin the blame on me, since I'm already hated for having so many teams. :)
Sounds like fun though...the peeing, burning and burying stuff and peeing again....I can't even imagine that, I can't stop laughing at the thought. Great post.
I find that interesting because if someone tried that sh!t now, they wouldn't be using cute little words like 'kidnapping'. It's called Grant Theft Auto, and no, we're not talking about the video game...
It's actually a really good read, the wiki entry on the Ramblin Wreck. You guys take 5 minutes and read it...
We did a thread on it last year when it got wrecked (literally) to the tune of $30,000 when it was pulling duty in a wedding--yes, they let people have the car in their wedding.
The car was either RG's best man or he and his wife consumated the marriage in the rumble seat. The wiki article didn't specify...
It should be an awesome game. Harrell to Crabtree is a "thang" of beauty!
May the best team win and then may my Horns beat those pesky Aggies Tday!!
I wish Cane Mutiny were still with us...I'd like to get his thoughts on the game...
As far as I know, Ron, he's been an LSU/Bama tug of war...His mother may be up to some funny business, but she & his brother LOOOOOOOOOVE LSU...
Rueben & his father are very tight-lipped, reserved, laid back men...I know RR's very tired of the process already...
When its all said and done, he's a Tiger, in my opinion...
Whoever ends up with him is going to be blessed...Whether he lines up on the other side of Julio, JoJo LaFell, or out wide for Bradford...
He's a great kid, too...
I can't WAIT to tell you who my source on RR is...
What's yours...Lemme guess...Bama On-Line?
LMAO!
I can't WAIT to get a response on this one...Please...Humor me, BC...
which is why i said, "i think" instead of "i heard"
reading comprehension?...
you're just so desperate to find something to attack me on in every post i make.
I'm still waiting to hear "what transpired"...
Thank you for admitting-for once-you don't know what you're talking about...Not that we didn't already know, and all...
you weren't aware?
LSU got beat by Alabama in their own house while Randle was visiting.
Alabama is ranked #1 in the country.
LSU had to come back to beat Troy.
those events have transpired...
and if you're a recruit seriously considering both schools, why wouldn't you go to:
- the better coached
- the lesser depth at WR
- the #1 team in the country
Better yet...how many head coaching jobs as your QB coach had, and how many has ours had? Ours went to BYU, and set up the offense that made Dennis Dixon a Heisman shoe-in prior to his injury (he's in the NFL right now, by the way)...
He also took Matt Flynn from a career backup to a kid who was drafted in the 6th round PAST a 2nd round pick in Brian Brohm to backup Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay...
Our receivers coach has put Dwayne Bowe & Craig Davis in the league as 1st round picks, and JoJo LaFell is currently the #1 WR in the SEC, BC...He'll be back again next year...Why wouldn't you line up opposite the guy that's going to draw the double, EVERY DOWN, in an offense that NOBODY can predict?
You're a team that averages 205 yards a game, and has NOBODY coming back at quarterback next year, and your Offensive Line's gone as well...Tell me exactly whose going to throw it to him and how they're going to have time? Or WHY he'd get any balls his way with the rushing attack and Julio to contend with?
So, he should go where you think the best coaching is, but we've proven the proof isn't in your pudding, and now you think he should go somewhere because he's afraid of competition at WR, and he should go to the #1 team in the country...
Hmmm...It'll be humorous to see you post after Bowl Season...
You'll only have one of those 3 legs to stand on...
I see that ESPN and Rivals both have Randle leaning U of A......That doesnt surprise me, though, because if i was visiting and the QB who was gonna be throwing to me threw more to the other team, then i would be turned off as well. But, we dont need WR's we have LaFell and Terrence Tolliver for next year anyway. (and we have Russell Shepard coming in...hmmm maybe someone who can throw the ball to the white jersyes)
Sorry, I just saw this.
No official decision has been announced, but if he has a chance to go in the top 5, I think he's as good as gone. Unfortunately....
Their crowd noise will have effect on Tech's quick no huddle offense.
It's gonna be a great game!!
My Longhorns beat you by ten on neutral turf....;-)
My only wish is that we beat the Aggies at our Turkey Bowl this year!!!
You guys work it out up there in Norman.... I'll be watchin'!!!!
GO SOONERS..........BOOMER
However, from the part of College GameDay that I watched, the crowd in Norman was silent. Are they just saving it for the game or will this be like playing at a neutral site?
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOOMER SOONER
wow...i just said that....
Wow, what a performance tonight. Congratulations.
It would have taken 12 Pac 10 officials, no operating monitors in the replay booth and 8 blown on-side kickoff calls (not to mention a few blown PI calls) for most teams to even come close to you guys tonight.
I would like to see Florida and OU play somehow, two hottest teams in CFB right now...
i think y'all will win by at least 14 points this weekend.
it's a gut feeling.
i have my secretary do my college pick 'em picks.
i can't believe she picked Texas Tech. what a b****!
That is news worthy...
" I just don't think they want to deal with that." I am pretty sure the U of O, that being the University of Oxford and not the University of Oregon, is above all that. However from their own website...
"Intellectual distinction is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for election to a Rhodes Scholarship."
Looks like they need a decent player...
On anothetrnote, as an idiot savant I never knew it was the U of O, I always thought they were OU. Their website states otherwise.

What I wouldn't have given to have possessed half the talent of Cam Newton, Ryan P, Ronnie Wilson, (perpetual parade of fools and tools).
They both have Corvettes...One looks like the last time it saw a carwash was the day it rolled off the showroom floor...
The other looks like its had a force-field around it...
Folks who are born into something-whether its favor, luxury, money, etc.-typically have a difficult time coming to grips with and learning to appreciate what that something is.
Folks who worked themselves up into it through breaking their own back, and survived off their work ethic? You never have to tell them what they have...They know the amounts in their savings and checking, down to the penny...and they appreciate every dollar like its their last...
Same way with top flight athletes...The kid who has to WORK for it appreciates what he's got...Take a Glen Dorsey for that example...
A kid like Ryan Perrilloux? Always the best, always first, always the star...He always thought that stardom would be enough to buy himself out of any trouble he found himself in. Almost as if he was above accountability for his own actions...

Heaven help you should you have questioned my parentage...
Choose your weapon!
Mississippi > Louisiana State (Point spread has been steadily going down....)
Michigan State > Penn State
Florida State < Maryland
Texas Tech > Oklahoma (Woo! Go Red Raiders! Wanna see ya in the NC)
Clemson > Virginia
Tennessee < Vanderbilt (BYE Week 13, Tennessee 7)
Arkansas > Mississippi State (Who cares?)
Duke > VT (My upset pick)
Looks like you were ready today. Hell yes! Damn Right
Hotty Toddy, Gosh almighty
Great win over LSU!!!
That's hysterical...Good luck tomorrow, I'm pulling for you guys and the University of Oxford!!!
Here's to the Cotton Bowl! A fitting return, too, should we pull it off!
Michigan < Ohio State, but wins
Mississippi > LSU
Penn State > MSU
Terps > Noles, FEAR THE TURTLE!
Texas Tech = Texas = Oklahoma, coin flip (guess Oklahoma has to win to get that)
Utah >> BYU, but game will be close
Florida >>>>> Citadel
Boise State > Nevada (If BYU wins this game has BCS implications)
Wake Forest = BC, but all Ranked ACC teams lose.
Pitt = Cincinnati, This could be a BCS playoff round 1.
Oregon State > Arizona
WV > Louisville
UNC > NC State
VA < Clemson, but wins anyways
VT > Duke
UCONN > USF
There's never been that big of an upset in the history of The Game. You'll be on the wrong side 2 weeks in a row. ;-)
Citadel winning would be a MUCH bigger upset.
WERE GOING TO THE BCS!!!!!
Congratulations! I hope those above you cannibalize themselves.
You needed to have Direct TV's sports pack to get the game on channel 616, 616-1 for HD. ESPN does not have a contract with the MWC, so it would not have been on ESPN Gameplan.
As for the Ohio State win, congrats! Sucks for Boise State. Of Oregon beats Oregon State, Ohio State will likely be in a BCS Bowl.
That'll be really strange to see a rematch against two teams located clear across the country from each other, assuming OSU makes it to the Rose Bowl.
I took the Red Raiders and the 7pts man. Where you at on it? I know you think OU wins but factor in the pt spread and it changes everything. I think OU wins a close one but won't cover.
Now that I think about it, I better go re-visit the picks to make sure the lines haven't done anything funny.

Congrats on an impressive win!

MI at OSU: OK, MI did beat WI, but then lost to Toledo. Buckeyes didn't let me down last week; they won't this week, either.
Citadel at FL: R U KIDD'N ME?!? Ahem…Gators.
IL at N Wstrn: Who'd a thunk after last year that the Wildcats would be ranked 24th and the Illini would be fighting for bowl eligibility. IL
MS at LSU: Nutt's got the Rebels hunt'n, but Tigers win despite the "picks".
BC at Wake: Is there a team in the ACC that wants to win its title? BC in driver's seat; Wake makes game of it. Eagles.
MI ST at Penn ST: If it were in E Lansing I'd say Spartans in an upset. It's in Happy Valley; nuff said. Lions.
Air Force at TCU: Toughest pick of the weekend. Frogs.
Boise ST at Nevada: Win or lose, no NC for Bronco's. Boise.
BYU at UT: 2nd toughest pick of the weekend. Utes (Oh, see Boise ST.)
Pitt at Cinci: 3rd toughest pick of the weekend; BE conference title hopes on the line…for more than just these 2. Pitt.
OR ST at AS: Wildcats manage to win this one.
FSU at MD: Terrapins just may be one of the answers to an earlier question (See BC).
TX Tech at OK: Who would'a thunk it, that this would be the most anticipated game of this week, and arguably this season? Even more anticipated than MI/OSU, no less. I kinda likes trends. Earlier, TX ran a gauntlet consisting of (n)OK, MO, OK St, and @ TX Tech; TX lost the 4th one. Similarly, Tech has run a gauntlet consisting of @ KS, TX, OK St, & tomorrow visits OK. If this looks familiar, looks ain't deceiving. Sooners!!!
WVU at Louisville: 4th toughest pick this weekend. I once jinxed em by not having the courage to pick em. Contrary to popular belief, the Mountaineers have more on the line tomorrow than does Louisville. WVU.
I also like NC over NC St, Rutgers over Army, Clemson over UVA, Purdue over IN, Vandy over TN, WY over CO St, AR over MS St - OK, I don't like ND over Syracuse, but I can't see to pick it any other way - WA St over WA, Tulsa over Tulane, Cal over Stanford, KS St over IA St, VA Tech over Duke, ECU over UAB, MN over IA, and Tomcat - this pick's for you: Rice over Marshall. Enjoy your weekend!!!
If Clemson can beat South Carolina at home next weekend, and if NC State can go to Miami and win, the ACC will have 10 teams in bowl games. These are 2 big ifs, but both are possible. Is there really any question that this is the deepest conference in football?
Edit: If Virginia beats Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, there will be 11 ACC teams in bowl games.
GO TIGERS!!!
GO ACC!!!
Win out against other conferences? Since that hardly ever happens, I think it's a very tall order. I believe the Big East did it in 2006 with 4 teams, but that's the only time I can think of it happening in recent memory. The odds are very stacked against a potential 11 teams all winning their bowl games.
Both our defensive coordinators are about as good as Jarrett Lee is throwing a football.
And the speedster (on a track....and in the OPEN FIELD) Trinidon Holiday has had Reggie Bush sydrome too long. He catches the ball and stands around waiting for the field to completely open up as opposed to actually running with the ball. Teams SHOULD NOT be scared to kick the ball to him any longer.
At least Jordan Jefferson is throwing the ball well. It's a shame he had to come in under the circumstances that he did with Lee getting hurt but it is what it is.
We're gonna need another huge 4th quarter to win this one. The only problem is Ole Miss's offense....lol.

I didn't get to see a lot of the game, but Ole Miss's offense seemed to move the ball well. The only think I saw of the LSU offense was a new QB that couldn't seem to get a lot going. Again, this is just from a few 10 minute windows of the game. Is that how the whole game was?
And you wonder why TE slams you every chance he gets? Man stop putting yourself out there like that.....lol. It's pretty easy to get run over by the train if you constantly stand on the damn tracks.

Faith is putting the game on the defense to make a stop. And allowing your offense a chance to execute.
What is he supposed to wait unitl 2 minutes left to start going for it on 4th down? He always has shown this team that on 4th down, he has faith in them being able to convert. Granted, 4th and 23 is out there but if you show these kids you believe they can convert it, so much the better. And Les has exhibited this from day one. No need to change now.

he could've pinned them deep, forced a three-and-out, and started the next drive with great field position.
or
they couldve forced a turnover down there. you never know. what Les Miles chose to do was give his team the worst chance of winning the game.
another interesting tidbit:
the announcer said that when Nick Saban left LSU, he recommended Houston Nutt to take over.
after 2 losses in a row to Nutt, with far more talent, are y'all starting to wish you had taken advantage of the last bit of coaching Saban offered you??
You do realize the defense hadn't done that ALL GAME right? And now all of a sudden he's supposed to think he can get that magical 3 and out?
I swear I feel like I'm talking to a fence post. I'm through with it dude. Agree to disagree.

I hope you liked the outcome.
In the infamous words of an ole eye-tal-yun buddy-o-mine, "not so fast, my friend." I'm reminded of a similar circumstance a few years back. WVU had lost earlier in the season and needed to win its last game on a Friday night at Pitt, plus Syracuse had to win at BC. (It was BC's last year in the B.E.) For the most part, WVU controlled the tempo of the game w/Pitt, ran up some good stats, but managed not to score much, including 2 missed F.G."s. Pitt put together a late drive and won 16-13. The following day, Syracuse put a hurt'n on BC in Chestnut hill, resulting in a 3-way tied for the B.E. crown.
Welp, WVU plays at Pitt next Friday night. The following day, Syracuse plays at Cinci. That's the same Syracuse squad that beat ND in S Bend. So, it could happen, just as it happened in 2004; Syracuse could win their last game this year on the road, and help WVU to win the B.E. The point is WVU's players & staff have to forget about what everyone else is doing and concentrate on what they have to do to beat Pitt, not to mention beat S FL the following week, given the Bulls have beaten the Mountaineers twice in a row.
In effect, 3 things can happen: 1) Cinci wins out, and everything else is moot. 2) Cinci loses; WVU wins, and everything else is moot. 3) Both Cinci & WVU lose (just like in 2004); picking a B.E. champion gets real tricky; but WVU won't make the Orange Bowl.
While I would prefer to see scenario #2, I'll settle for #1, so long as WVU keeps winning. Go Mountaineers!!!!!
Also, TEX didn't hang 65 on the #2 team in the nation.
I have no idea who should be ranked higher - Texas beat OU, but tonight no one in their sane mind wants a piece of the Sooners...
I enjoyed every single point. Sorry, Tyler...

1 TEXAS Big 12 57
2 UTAH M West 55
3 PENN STATE Big 10 49
4 FLORIDA SEC 48 Owns WF2 advantage over OKLAHOMA
5 OKLAHOMA Big 12 48 -

8 TEXAS TECH Big 12 43 Owns WF2 advantage over SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
9 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Pac 10 43 Owns WF2 advantage over BOISE STATE
10 BOISE STATE WAC 43
Bear in mind that the Big 10 and Mountain West have completed play while the remaining conferences still have another round of conference play. Expect PSU, OSU, Utan and Boise State to lose ground over the next two weeks as these games play out.
Some observations about this weekend.
Florida: Playing an FCS team at the end of the season???? What are they thinking? It must play into some urbane (not urban) BCS strategy. I guess everyone else was busy this weekend. It counts for nothing in your Win Factor and probably not a lot more with the coaches and the sportswriters.
Texas Tech: Down but not out. If OU falls against the Cowboys in Stillwater, Tech is back into the Big 12 Title game thanks to their win over Texas. That is, assuming, the Raiders can bounce back against Baylor at home. A win over Missouri would keep them within striking distance of the Longhorns for whatever bowls they end up in.
Oklahoma: Needs to get it done in Stillwater and Kansas City to get to the NCG and more importantly to the top of the Win Factor standings. OSU will not be impressed by the Sooner's win over Tech. They know the Sooners too well for that. And don't forget it was Oklahoma that ended Missouri's national title hopes last season in the Big 12 Championship game. Missouri will be itching for payback. Neither of these games are gimmes for the Sooners.
Utah and Boise State: Nice run for both teams. Now all they need is a thirteenth game between the WAC and MWC champions to elevate one of them into the same level as the Big 12 and SEC champions. Both of these conferences did well this year compared to the Pac 10. Both of these teams are legit contenders in the BCS discussion. A game between these two would elevate the winner's position as compared to the SEC and the Big 12. Maybe the NCAA should review those rules again.
Southern Cal: Sorry guys. You are the best team in a sinking conference. You are just going to have to schedule more tough non-conference games if you are going to stay competitive.

My apologies for the site listing. Please strike that post if you can. I did not mean to promote the site but I do mean to promote the idea behind it which I think is relevant to the BCS discussion. Instead of complaining about the lack of a solution, I'm advocating one. I hope that is allowed here.

After the first round, a lot of the games will be played when there aren't good D1-A (FBS) games to watch. If you haven't ever before watched a playoff game, they are very exciting. Last year's Championship game featured my Apps beating down Joe Flacco's Delaware Blue Hens for their 3rd straight national title. The best part of all of this is: when it's all over, they know exactly who their champion is.
I love D1-AA playoffs!
I'm still not buying that ACC strongest conference thing though. Here's why, statistics very rarely tell the whole story. Get Sagarin to add stats for total home attendance, and strength of recruiting class. You will get a different result then.
I'm an App. State fan first and foremost when it comes to D1-AA, and I always pull against Furman and Georgia Southern. With that said, I want ASU to take the title, but I'd love to see Wofford and SC State have some success. It's too bad that they drew the hands down #1 and #2 teams in the country in the first round. SC State is going to get absolutely hammered. Wofford is pretty strong, but JMU will still probably have their way with them. I'll be pulling for the Terriers though.
GO APPS!
GO TERRIERS!
It has been said that the proof is in the pudding. No ACC team is contending for the NC, ergo, the ACC is NOT a particularly strong conference. You can tell Sagarin I said so.
What? Where did I respond with that?. I made an isolated comment that Sagarin's rankings, which are completely based off of numbers and results, show that the ACC is the strongest conference as a whole. If you want to refute it, show some numbers. Show any numbers. Show stats. Show some sort of proof that what you're claiming is true. Otherwise, I'm going to go with the guy who is nationally respected for his analysis of football teams' relative strength.
By the way, when I'm responding to a particular statement, I will use the conveniently located "reply" link below that comment.
At any rate Cjoe, go up four of your posts, and again in your last post. That's all I've got to say about the subject until the proper time for this discussion comes along. After The Season Ends!
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc08.htm
I'll back you up. Even though the ACC may not have any "great teams" - they currently have about eleven teams that will probably be bowl eligable. There is no other conference that rivals the parity that the ACC has, from top to bottom, that the ACC puts on the field. There are many good teams in the ACC. We're gonna see what Clemson, Georgia Tech and Florida State can do against their SEC rivals this coming weekend. It would not surprise me in the least if the ACC doesn't come away with two wins here. Florida is a tough draw for anyone. Let's see if the Seminoles don't give them some trouble. The ACC is a definately underrated conference. I also consider the Sagarin "Predictor Rankings" to be the most accurate source for actual play that has happened on the field.
Don't forget about Vanderbilt going to Wake Forest. I think the ACC takes that one. Regardless of the outcome, all 4 ACC vs. SEC matchups are intriguing and should make for some great football.
Usually I've thought highly of Sagarin's predictor as well, but I haven't really followed it this year, so I don't really know how it's fared so far. Have you followed it by any chance?
Tommy, the Pac 10 needs to hurry up and add 2 more teams to have a championship. It's a shame that the Trojans might not get a shot at the conference title this year.
We still get a share of the PAC 10 title - no matter what. That's seven straight titles. It's just that Oregon State goes to the Rose Bowl based on the straight up win.
I'm against the conference Championship playoff game. I think that it is unfair to the team that played and won all year long - just to give a lesser team a chance at an upset. I suppose that it all depends on how you view things. You can see a different perspective under any scenario.
Let's look at the SEC. I don't think that Alabama is the best team and I think that Florida would beat them. This scenario seems to look okay to me. But, Alabama has to play an "extra" game after going unbeaten, and may lose the chance to play for a National Championship. Maybe it is unfair. This one seems to work out because both teams have not played each other, the two best teams reside in opposite divisions, and it seems to be a good showcase to find out who the best team really is.
Let's look at the BIG 12. This will be an unfair scenario for either Texas, Oklahoma or Texas Tech to have to win another game - that the other two do not have to play. Just a hypothetical: if Oklahoma sits at #2 and Texas is sitting at #3, and Oklahoma has to play Missouri and loses, then Texas (by default) will advance to the National Championship game. This will only happen because Oklahoma had to play the additional game. You could reverse the scenario and interchange those two teams. Should Oklahoma lose to OK State - then you could substitute Texas Tech for Oklahoma into the equation. Now, you could give the argument that Oklahoma would have a chance to "cement it's status" as one of the top two teams, but I still think that it is unfair to have to play an additional game while two other teams get the opportunity to "back in".
Now, another thing that bothers me is "division" alignment. I don't neccesarily agree with this concept. I think that the BIG 12 NORTH is much weaker than the BIG 12 SOUTH - and has been all along. For instance, if you were gonna have a BIG 12 Championship game, it should be Texas vs Oklahoma IMO. But, all it does is give the weaker Missouri team, a chance to "upset" somebody and it proves nothing at all in my mind.
How bout the BIG 10? Who would play in that "hypothetical" conference championship? Penn State and Ohio State? Why? Didn't Penn State just beat the Bucks? Why should they have to play again? Why should Penn State's terrific season be jeopardized just so Ohio State could have another chance? It doesn't make any sense to me.
How about the PAC 10? Would anything really make any difference? What do you get? Oregon or Oregon State against Southern Cal? What gain would the PAC 10 have in any playoff game? Zero! Does USC ever get any credit for beating any PAC 10 teams? No! None! What would be the point? Do we even want to go to the Rose Bowl? Not really! USC would rather be chosen as an at-large member at this point in time. We get no respect from beating PAC 10 or BIG 10 opponents ever. A playoff makes no sense for the PAC 10 - period! There is nothing to win and nothing to gain and nothing to lose. There simply is nothing.
Now, for the ACC: alot of the time this playoff seems to make sense. There usually seems to be two qualified teams, from each division, to put up against each other. There never seems to be a Nationally dominant team that is at risk by losing. No, in this case there is always the automatic BCS invite as an incentive. The playoff seems to work well in this conference.
As for the Big East: I don't know what you could do here. They are four teams short and they all play each other anyway. Why have another game to let somebody "pull the upset"?
So, all in all, I think that the "extra game" is a detriment for any team that has already had a great season. Usually, there is not a whole lot to gain, and most often it seems - you can lose a game and lose your chance at a National Championship. This can allow for some team that didn't play - to sneak in the back door. The Big 12 has the perfect scenario for this right now.
The top three teams in the SEC have a combined 30 wins to date. The top three in the ACC have 24 wins to date. An obvious difference of six. Give the top three, six more wins, spread six more losses around the rest of the ACC. BAM! Just like that, a minimum of two less ACC teams going to a bowl. A conference without big winners, makes everybody look better. That is all there is to this chimera of ACC "strength", or "depth".
