If anyone thinks he is a good coach I would more than beg to differ. You are right it is too soon to judge Swinney and I am only basing my judgements on other programs who did the same thing (fired a underperforming HC and hired his replacement from his own crew). I don't consider Auburn to have done this since I don't think one 5-7 season is underperforming but Miami is a good example of it not having worked out well.

Again I wish Clemson nothing but the best 11 games and a bowl out of the year so it's not wishful thinking here. As long as our basketball biotches (and our hockey biotch BC) aren't too football successful I am happy.

Re: Fanblogs Open Thread

I despise Al Groh. Virginia is my least favorite team in the ACC, so I really don't care what they do. I really don't think the Richmond coach would ever be the head guy at UVA honestly. I think he'd be better suited to give it a shot with a C-USA team or something like that.

I really do think that Swinney is the right guy for the job. Although, right now, it doesn't matter. We'll have to address this again in a year or so. He has certainly picked up some pretty good recruits and recruiters so far, so he's doing a good job with that aspect of the job. Let's see how it translates on the field next season.

Re: Fanblogs Open Thread

Are you shopping for Al Groh's replacement? He has to be next on the ACC chopping block.

That said I am not in favor of coach firing though I make a lot of jokes about it so don't jump on me! I think Fulmer being fired was a travesty although I sure hope Tennessee found the right team of coaches (let me say as a fan of a school that has a vast amount of coaching talent pulled in from all over that we have what seems to be a too many chief''s problem. With a head coach in waiting, an executive head coach that was formerly a head coach, a head coach and a mickey andrews who also probably has some head coach title all pulling in various directions and a man that doesn't really coach (the head coach) speaking for all of them that I don't think putting together a coaches dream team is a good idea. Clemson probably needed to fire tommy though as it was too much conflict for him to work there and his father to work at FSU. Bobby seemed to be losing on purpose just to keep his son employed and his son became a lame duck at some point roughly 3 years ago and hasn't really seemed to care since. That said Dabo cannot be the right guy, it just seems very unlikely and I have never been a fan of the idea an underling of a bad head coach was actually a good head coach. I wish Clemson success on the field 11 games a year (and a bowl) as I loath BC and think none of the rest of the atlantic should ever be extremely successful (including BC).

Re: Fanblogs Open Thread

He is certainly out.

Minus one solid tackle will make running against Utah a little harder than expected. The Bowls as they are would probably take a hit under a different system, and any Bowls integrated into a playoff system would quickly vanish, but you're right - there's nothing wrong with them and they are a great tradition. I think we're on the same page on that one.

Re: Fanblogs Open Thread

Thanks Tom...

Many Happy Returns...Not only to the commentators here, but to EVERYONE reading us out there...

Happy Holidays/Happy Kwanza/Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah!

Re: Fanblogs Open Thread

Thanks, Tom.
