So, a friend of mine showed me this International American Football Tournament yesterday. It really looks like the the games against France and Mexico were close. Is this thing on TV?

I had no idea that Japan had high school and college teams. I also didn't realize that so many countries had pro teams.

Gotcha Mine conveniently played out just before I received a stimulus check-I need to add Versus before the season starts this year, they had some good ones last year MWC,B-12 and P-10 games

Thanks for the advice. I certainly don't want to spend any more money after the initial purchase, so the warranty seems like a must. I am going to go give the 3 types (LCD, Plasma, and DLP) a trial run this evening to compare pictures.

My TV is a Mitsubishi, not sure what size, but it's a big one...must be a DLP, because I have already replaced the " gold plated " bulb once....great picture, but buy a extended warranty in case the bulb goes out...believe me, the price of the bulb will pay for the warranty..

The LCD vs Plasma debate has always confused me. It seems to go back and forth every couple of years, so I haven't been able to keep up, but this is what I "know" about them...

Plasma are supposed to have deeper blacks and richer colors.

Plasmas supposedly wear out quicker than LCDs

Plasmas can get "screen burn" by pausing the screen for too long

Take all that with a grain of salt because that is just what I have heard. Good luck with your purchase.

With DLP's you have to watch out for the maintenance costs. The bulbs WILL burn out and they can be hundreds of dollars to replace.

I have a 46" Sony lcd that is pretty good, but my brother-in-law has a 7 series Samsung (lcd I think) and that thing has the most ridiculous picture I have ever seen!!! I am not even kidding! The picture is so realistic that it is almost hard to get used to. Check one out.

60" Mitsubishi DLP is under $1000. It's 14" deep so you can't mount it, but if you've got the spot for it, it's not a bad deal.

I've also heard of some issues with DLP but I never know if that's legit or just the rare person who got screwed who is yelling the loudest. I'm also not at all informed about Mitsubishi as a TV manufacturer.

At this point, I think plasma will probably be the winner.

Yea, I bought both of my HDs from them. They always had the best deals--even better than places like Wal Mart and Sam's club.

How much is a 60" DLP running these days? Is it a flat-panel? I've never cared for the screen projection TVs. Also, I've heard that DLPs have some issues, but you know how that goes.

I was leaning towards plasma to be honest with you, so I'm glad you said that.

The only thing really intriguing me now is that DLP 60" TVs are cheap. I just don't know anyone who has one to ask about them.

BTW, I had not heard of Brands Mart. I just checked out their site and they have some really good deals. Thanks for the heads up!

Convergence is shot. I'm not really sure of the cause, but I think it's probably that woman that lives with me.

Either way, it doesn't really matter who caused it. Now I have a fantastic excuse to blow some money on a nice new TV before football season.

I bought a Toshiba 50" plasma for my bedroom from Brands Mart last Fall for $900. They're probably cheaper now. I'm totally satisfied with it--even more so than with my 42" LG plasma.

I think plasma has a better picture than the rest, There's some concern that they may not last as long, but with prices dropping the way they have, you don't have to do as much homework as you once did when they were $3000.

I just fried my wonderful huge Sony HD TV. So, obviously I have to buy a new one before football season. So, here's the question: DLP, LCD, Plasma? Please give a reason for your answer. LED is too high to cost justify at this point.

That's some funny shit there about WalMart and Phil Steele. I've been thinking about it for a few days.

Anyway, I'm over at WalMart getting my wife's prescriptions filled (got her about a six-month supply - should keep her out until after the bowl games), and I just had to walk over to the rack and check it out. Bigger than shit, there it is, Phil Steele's College Football 2009. Couldn't resist. Actually bought the dayum thing.

Now, according to Phil Steele, Ciron Black is the top rated tackle in the entire country. Joseph Barksdale is listed at #14. Southern Cal tackles are Charles Brown at #9 and Butch Lewis at #33. Nowhere is there an Alabama tackle rated in the Top 65 - not even DJ Fluker! In fact, Xavier Nixon is the top incoming OL at Florida, while DJ Fluker is not slated to start at Alabama. He'll backup Senior Drew Davis at the RT position while LT will belong to rFR Tyler Love.

Phil Steele lists only LG Mike Johnson #6 as noteworthy Alabama offensive linemen. OG Lyle Hitt is rated at #14 for LSU, while USC lists OG's Jeff Byers #2, Thomas Herring #38, Zack Heberer #44 and C Kristofer McDowd as #1. Southern Cal rates as the #1 offensive line in the country while LSU is rated at #15. Alabama is nowhere to be found in the Top 33.

Now, about what a load of shit this rag is: He lists the Southern Cal receivers as the #4 unit in the country, yet, the QB position is rated #34. Say what? Do you realize that Houston, C. Michigan, Nevada, Florida Atlantic, UTEP, W.Michigan, Hawaii, UAB, Duke and TCU will all be stronger at the QB position than USC will be? My most glaring question is: how can you have the 4th best receiving corp without anybody to get them the ball?

It is also very interesting that Zack Heberer (#44) is not slated to start at RG. That distinction belongs to Alex Parsons - who is not rated. Also, not only is Thomas Herring (#38) not going to start at LG, he's gonna be 3rd string behind rFR Khaled Holmes. Again the question is: How can two guys who are not even the starters be rated higher than the people who are?

Thomas Herring is an interesting case. About 6'6 370 when he walked in here. Rated the 3rd best DT in the country. A real monster. Switched to OT then OG and cannot get on the field. Many lower rated players have moved past him including Alex Parsons, Charles Brown, Zack Heberer and Nick Howell. This is our guy who has never lived up to his potential. BTW, he's now only 6'6 330, and maybe he can somehow move his ass sans the extra forty pounds.

Your point on this rag is well taken. But, it may help clear everything up for BC. I just could not resist. Hopefully, he can come back now with some rant, about how you just can't rely on ratings. That would be fun.
