Forgot to mention... I'll be out of pocket for the balance of the day. New, fresh, toasty warm topics on tap for tomorrow, so y'all stop on back by.

Y'all vote me up and gimme some points! I gotta stay above Lennie! ;-)
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I didn't think that you had any control over Disqus, Kev--i.e. it's someone else's baby.

Well, the most improbable comeback in NCAA history. Lennie comes from 24 down in the 4th quarter to go up by 9...

And I fall to negative 50. Lovely!!!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
War Eagle Atlanta...I ain't trying to start anything BUT I think the people on here wants to talk and hear football. I think they are tired of the jokes also. War Eagle Atlanta I ain't gots anything against and you are decent people. I did your score like that and I WILL go back and correct yours as well as 1Tomcat! I give you my word and I am sorry that I did that to you and 1Tomcat I apologize to as well!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I think I know who is having fun with the rankings.

    haha

    Ok, now fix it.

(not that mine has been tampered with yet, but for the communities sake)
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
It was funny while I was doing it BUT I ain't gone deceive 1Tomcat & War Eagle Atlanta. Like Donna Summer said, They work hard for the points! I ain't tryin' ta be rude BUT I still don't give a doggone 'bout this approval point system. I wanna talk some serious college football!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Lennie, I like you. In fact, I can't really say there's anyone on Fanblogs I haven't liked. I know this is a college football blog, and like you, I'm ready to talk some football. My concern is perhaps you don't laugh enough. No doubt you've heard the saying, "Laughter is good for the soul." Well, I subscribe to the Roger Rabbit theory: "Sometimes laughter is the only weapon we have." Laugh with me, Lennie; if not with me, with your son then. But what ever you do, laugh, and enjoy the ride!!!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Zac, I like fun and I am gone have plenty of it this weekend with my son. But I also have a serious side. When I brought up the SEC coach hiring practices I wanted people on here to think outside the playing field. When it got back to me I said a certain people, region, and school(s) were racist. I never hinted that OR posted that. Hiring/firing coaches are a part of college football just like players getting into trouble off the field, well at least when it comes to the Sooners it does! By the way 1Tomcat...I fixed War Eagle Atlanta's and your points but yours did not add back up like War Eagle Atlanta's did. I will go through again and make sure I fixed the posts of yours I tampered with. Maybe the fellas on here are tired of your jokes and started deducting points from you. You might want to find some new materials! Cream & Crimson Pure!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey Lennie I never have understood all that ranking stuff anyway its all cool man. I hope you enjoy your weekend with your boy.You probably deserve it, life is short ,hug his neck and count your blessings.
    Adios Tomcat
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
1Tomcat...I still don't understand it and I still don't care about it. I assure you that i am not messing with yours or anyone else's. Did you check out CollegeFootballNew.Com previews? Every magazine and sports channel gone have their opinions BUT it doesn't matter. It's how the teams preform on the field! Sports announcers are going to be bais and change their opinions as quickly has the wind change. I don't pay Lou Holtz or Mark May no mind. Kirk Herbstreit is probably the best announcer for ABC/ESPN.
  • grcunning · 1 year ago
    stupid question Lennie..
how do i view these "points"?
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
You click on your photo, that is the Ohio State helmet.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I didn't think any one person had the ability to make someone else's score move like that. I thought Kevin did it. Doesn't really matter.

I don't see anything wrong with joking while your talking football. Makes it interesting to read...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I may be wrong, but it appears that anyone can alter your rating by one per comment. So a malicious user could significantly alter the score of a regular blogger.

Personally it won't matter in a month and a half when we have real topics to discuss. We all know who we are.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I'm with Lennie. Damn the points! Full comments ahead!

Kevin, what you might consider is a point system, where-by those taking them away have to provide their handle, e-mail, or even password to do it. Just a thought.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
War Eagle Atlanta...it's nothing wrong with joking BUT how many times do you want to see me post how I dislike Texas? How long do you want me to go on and on and on and on about disliking a team fan base or the state that they reside in or the state that team plays in? Wouldn't you get tired of me posting in threads how much I dislike Texas EVEN if the THREAD or SUBJECT had nothing to do with Texas? You also have the ability to move one score and believe me it is a waste of time. I fixed yours back but it seems that the crowd has turned on 1Tomcat! I put his back and the points kept on being deducted. 1Tomcat if you are reading I am not messing with you approval points. To be honest I could care less about mine. You can put me at -1000 as far as I am concern. I need no approval points to discuss football or my opinions. Take Care and CRIMSON -N- CREAM in your dreams. Oh...it will be a nightmare on 10/11/08!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
It just seems that sometimes you're a little overly sensitive if someone directs something your way, Lennie. Don't take everything as a personal affront. The regular guys on here can tease each other from time to time, but it's basically just a shout-out as opposed to an insult.

For example, I mentioned your clout rating in a light-hearted way, but you seemed to think that I was trying to put you down, and I wasn't. I even told whoever was debasing your rating that they were childish.

If someone insults me or my team, or I feel someone is trying to get a rise out of me, I do one of two things: 1) I ignore them, which is the worst payback imaginable. Think about how demoralizing it is to a troll to come on here and make some snide comment and have absolutely NO ONE respond to him. Or 2) I compose a sharp little rebuke that makes them look pretty stupid, especially if others jump on the bandwagon.

That's kind of why we invented h on here--to ridicule the trolls without them being able to figure it out.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
War Eagle Atlanta...you might be right or you could be wrong! I said for sure that the non sense does get old after a while. I sure wished your had posted this last week-end when a lot of sensitive people did not like my remarks about the coaching hiring in the SEC. I agree with most of the things you say. That's why I went back and corrected you and 1Tomcat points.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
You are gone stay above me! Tomorrow night I am going to get my son and enjoy the Dark Knight on Friday & Saturday. My son wants to go twice! The jokesters, not The Joker's thugs, will here posting their comments to get a laugh!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Lennie, you deserve several points just because you're spending time with your son, my grandson is also going to see it ..........enjoy
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Not to be rude OU Ron BUT I deserves no points. I love him and I need to be there for him! His mother and I don't get along because of her doing BUT I love him more than I dislike her!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Lennie, you get BIG points in my book. Any father that loves his son(s) and isn't afraid to say it, let alone put forth the effort, deserves points in my book. God bless you, Lennie; God bless you and your family.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I deserve no points. That is what a father or mother for that fact should do!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
That's going to be a good one. Enjoy!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I just got off the phone with my son and you know what the first thing he asked me? When are we going to go see the Dark Knight. Can I get a hello how was/is your day first?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Lennie, are you starting a new job or something ??????
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
No, But I am taking Saturday off to get a three day much needed weekend.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Kevin, you just ruined it for me, I was just about to start up a Sooner fan club and I was going to be the president, but I needed photos of Sooner Girl to make her a member, Geeez, I'm not that old.........
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Dang. Heavy suckage on my part.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
It'll be a shame if the points go away, because I thought we could trade them for cash and prizes during the season...

Or at least get house credit with one of those online sports books...

    :-)
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
WEA, it's obvious someone is acting like a 10 year old, I'm like a few others on here, I wish that feature would disappear.........
Do you suppose coondawg has come back alive........acts alot like him....
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
What's strange, Ron, is that this is probably an adult doing it. Bevo Boy, who is in high school, acts 10 times more mature and probably has more relevant posts than this person.
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Whoever it is must like me. My score remains intact.

    Zero.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
LOL, I'll fix that, you're now at 1
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
    It must be Christmas.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
This is purty stupid, WEA is at -142 or something, ole coondawg or some Bama fan must be up to some mischift or something.
WEA is the author of threads for three different sites and a great contributer to CFB blogs. He has reached the pinacle at -142 I just have to wonder, and today I look and some of his comments are all X's or something, whats going on?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Not sure about this, but since Kevin holds the puppet strings from HQ's, he might be able to see who it is.......
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I was at -1, then 166; now, I'm at 158. I don't get it, & I don't care. Kevin, set me back to -100 and give everybody else my points. Give the lion's share to WarEagle; no way should he be in the hole.

OK, , ,like, yeah, sure. . .cool. . . .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. You meant that in a nice way, right???
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I'll give ya a point if you'll edit this entry and cut the dots back to... say... 10? That way it doesn't break the page layout.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
    Totally. ;-)
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
It doesn't bother me Zac. My peeps know who I am...
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Yeah, that's right... Wait, are you bragging or complaining?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
    Ok, new thought.

Anyone considered the possibility of TWO non BCS teams in a BCS bowl?

What if the BIG 12 and SEC have a great year this year, even by the lofty standards of their die hard fans? Consider the following potential BCS top 14.

    1) Oklahoma (The selectors seem to get them higher than they deserve, so ok...)
    2) USC (See Oklahoma)
    3) Auburn (OH NO NOT AGAIN!)
    4) BYU (undefeated, are they really better than the two loss teams behind them?)
    5) Ohio State
    6) Georgia
    7) Texas
    8) LSU
    9) West Virginia
    10) Clemson
    11) Florida
    12) Texas Tech
    13) Colorado
    14) Fresno State (think where we could be if we had beat Wisconsin!)

Ok, now for the selection process:
Champions Oklahoma, USC, Auburn, West Virginia and Clemson get in.
BYU gets in due to the rule allowing for the top non BCS team to get in.

No other team gets an automatic bid, but each conference is limited to a maximum of two teams.

From the SEC the BCS can choose from Georgia, LSU and Florida.
From the Big 12 it can choose from Texas, Texas Tech and Colorado.
No other teams from the BIG east, Pac 10, Big 10 or ACC are available.
Fresno State is the only other eligible team.

This would be unchanged if, say, Utah replaced Fresno State. Although only one non BCS team is guaranteed a spot, as the rules are written two BCS teams, even from the same non-BCS conference, could get in.

    I love loop holes!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Ben, if something like that would happen, I'll apologize now for the selection committee not choosing Utah to play Oklahoma in the Fiesta bowl........
    Just kidding you....
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
I'm confused where you got your Big XII selections - why Tech and Colorado? Why not Mizzou or Kansas? Did I miss something as to why they are the selection?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Mostly I pulled them out of the thin air, like all the spots. Some consideration was given to the popular biases around here.

Tech is getting good press, so i figured why not. Colorado I like, I need someone from the north don't I?

I am not certain Kansas and Missouri will repeat, though Missouri is more likely.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
I'd be very surprised if Colorado could make it, but they have made quite a few Big XII Championship appearances in the past decade, so who knows. I'm glad to see the Big XII North shaping up again though.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Your the expert, I'm a big 12 outsider.

It will be interesting to see if Kansas and Missouri can maintain what they had last year and if Kansas State can shape up again.

I am not sure there is hope for Iowa State and Nebraska.

I predict the south to win the Big 12 championship game again this year. Its like predicting USC to win the PAC 10. The question is who is going to win the south?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Texas plays all the toughest teams in the league this year
Oklahoma, Colorado, TTech.Kansas,Missu, A&M, OK st
The B-12 really looks wide open this year and if anybody escapes unbeaten it will be amazing.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Ben, when the guys in white coats with little butterfly nets come to take you to the looney bin, I'm sure you'll still be muttering, "it IS possible to have two non-BCS teams in a BCS bowl...."

Have you ever considered how hard it's going to be to prove your sanity then when you declare you're a Utah Utes fan???

    :-)
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Actually its not so bad in here.

They give me three squares a day and access to the internet.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Is Coondawg1 in there too, because he was crazy for the WAC
sometimes he would become his wife and post
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
    LMAO...
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Ben Prather, where is all of this hatred towards OU coming from? To me, the Sooners are ranked right where they should. When a team goes 11-3, defeats a d@mn good Mizzou team twice, defeats Texas, wins yet another Big 12 championship, and returns something like over 72% of their starters (9 offense, 7 defense), where do you expect them to be ranked? To me, if OU is ever going to make another national title run, this year is the one. I wish OU would schedule Utah so that they can crush the Utes. Its all in fun. BOOMER!
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I couldn't agree more. (And you left out one Davey O'Brien / Heisman (?) candidate at QB!)
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey OU Fan hows everything in Deusland ? Wow I dont know what happened to the UT faithful, but yall definetly got me outnumbered now.
Think yall will get by TTech and TCU this year ??
OU and UT are in the Top-10 in almost every catagory so the RRS game is just as big as ever.
    Hookem-Horns
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Tomcat, everything is going great. I think OU will beat Texas Tech by at least 14 points and I think OU will beat TCU by at least 30. You're right, the RRS is going to be absolutely huge and I can't wait. However, that is one of the games that I am concerned about with the other two being OU @ ATM and OU @ Washington. The Aggies always give the Sooners a run for their money in College Station and the Sooners will be in an extremely hostile environment at Washington which definately leaves room for an upset. On top of that, the former Seattle Supersonic's new home is in Oklahoma City and I think that will add a little fuel to the fire. I don't think OU fans will be welcomed with open arms from Washington fans. Conference play in the Big 12 will be very competitive this season. BOOMER!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey Buddy You never know, heck anything can happen, heck after 07 the skys the limit. Who woulda ever thought about the crazy upsets.

Man, oh man, 07 was absolutely crazy wasn't it?!?! Not to mention Notre Dame's crazy season.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I'd put the line for Oklahoma TCU at about 14
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I dont Know if TCU is gonna beat them that bad the game is in Norman
It will probably be a little closer like TCU 38 OU 34
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I was speaking of expected outcomes, which certainly would favor Oklahoma winning. I was saying Oklahoma by 14.

I would love to see your score though, as any good win for a MWC team helps Utah.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Yeah, one too many OU fans may throw off the balance of the ecosystem. Wasn't in Australia that one too many frogs caused something in their ecosystem that would seem relevant and make me seem smart if I knew what I was talking about? Hook'em Horns.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Bevo Boy even fellow Longhorns fans on here don't know what the heck you are talking about! I would like to see you post something that actually makes sense. Take a day or two to really think it out! By chance do you ride the small yellow bus to school?
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
An OU fan knew what I was talking about, so that means it makes sense to somebody. And JB is right, I do drive to school. By the way, you always take it personally when someone insults you, so I guess I'll use one of your old quotes since you implied that I was mentally retarded. CHECK YOUR TONE!!!!!!!!
  • JB · 1 year ago
not to take one side or the other here but it was pretty funny :-)
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Bevo Boy...maybe you ride the small yellow bus to help save gas. I never implied anything. Get your own lines! You don't sound right using mine!
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
What you talkin' 'bout Willis, er, I mean, Lennie? Is that line better? And it actually does imply something because, at least in my school system, the small yellow bus is for those who are mentally handicapped. And thanks (I guess?) for calling me alright people; that's the nicest thing you've ever said about me. You're alright people too, then.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
With the high cost of gasahol many schools might go to shorter buses to save on gasahol. Maybe your school might have done it.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Lennie, that sounds like it would cost more since they would have to buy new busses and they would need more of them. I'm not gonna figure it out though, so that's just how it appears to me.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Bevo, it was the tricosystem that was off balance, actually it was because only one of the frogs was overweight, I'm surprised, you being only 16, that you would know about such worldly things,Hmmmnnnn
  • JB · 1 year ago
You would be surprised at how much we actually we do know about the world around us Ron.......and at 16 he probably drives to school Lennie
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
What's a tricosystem? I've never heard of it and it's not in dictionary.com so I'm out of resources to find it on my own.

  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
For the record this was explained in a thread last week, My hatred for Oklahoma comes from the same source as my hatred for USC, and is alluded to above.

It has nothing to do with any wrong doing by Oklahoma or their fans, both of whom I respect.

The BCS I hate because it is the BCS.
BYU I hate because they are BYU.
Kentucky Basketball I hate, 3 NCAA tournaments in a row one the Championship.

The source of my hatred for other teams originates from a perceived historical bias in the polls for these teams, favoring them in the eyes of the hated BCS. My prior hated of Miami (FL), Alabama, Nebraska and FSU were based on similar reasoning and has greatly diminished of late. My opinions for all teams will be opposed to this perceived bias.

I still, however, insist on indicating which Miami I am talking about, especially now that they are more comparable on the field. I also think Utah and Miami should play for the right to use "The U" to represent their institution.

Somehow Notre Dame is still a simmering dislike, possibly related to their unwarranted TV contract.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I see your point, but to be honest with you, I don't like the BCS rules. I sincerely feel, though it's arguable there were better teams out there; 13-0 Boise St got ripped off. They played a respectively competitive schedule, but didn't get any respect until after they beat OK, and even then, it seemed as if the college football world was just throwing them a bone. It's entirely possible; a MWC and WAC conference champion could duplicate the same feat in the same year. However, it's highly unlikely that both would wind up in BCS bowls.

By the same token, it's entirely possible, not to mention it has happened more than once, at the end of a given season 3 teams could wind up in the Top-10 in same conference. If by some crazy coincidence three conferences did that in the same year, only 6 of those 9 Top-10 teams would wind up in BCS bowls. I think it stinks that a team ranked as high as 5th wouldn't play in a BCS bowl, and could be passed over by a 10-2 team. The teams that make their mark and earn their way should be rewarded for doing well, not punished.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
WEA, didn't someone post on here the other day, that the reason Auburn didn't make it to NC game was because of their OOC games that year.......it could be another team, but I thought it was Auburn...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
OU Ron Auburn's non-conference schedule was the factor. The Citadel, I might got the Division 1-AA wrong, BUT that was the reason. that is why strenght of schedule is SUPPOSE to not matter!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Lennie, you're back, we have another Sooner fan on here that lives in Austin, who knows, we may have a whole covey nestled there in Longhorn country......
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
There are plenty of Sooners and Cornhuskers fans here. It just not Texas based college teams. I have seen LSU, Florida. Arkansas...I can keep namin' 'em!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Yes, someone did, but that's a common misconception for the reason Auburn was left out. That's why I bring up the overall strength of schedule. The really big cupcake was 1-AA The Citadel, but it wasn't really Auburn's fault for playing them. Another team pulled out at the beginning of the season and we had to replace them at the 11th hour with The Citadel.

Conventional wisdom holds that if you're ranked #1 and #2 and that you don't lose, you don't drop in the polls. Had Auburn started the season in the top 10 instead of 17th, perhaps it would have been a different result.

No use in worrying about it anymore. Like I've said before, Ron, perhaps the legacy from Auburn's martyrdom is that every SEC champion gets a serious look at the BCS CG, regardless of their record...
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Yes Sooner-girl Is definitely a bias OU fan that fits the stereotypical mold.
To make excuses and blame losses on injuries and referees shows that you are truly a Sooners fan. Your firm allegiance and loyalty to your institution demonstrates a faithful an accurate standard pattern displayed and your supreme geographical location proves that there is justice. On earth as it is in Texas.
    Hookem-Horns
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Sooner Girl, I should have warned you about Tomcat, he fishes alot with some pretty sharp hooks, he lands a few big ones now and then......he's another Longhorn fan, just watch out when you nibble on that bait.........
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
From what I have seen Sooner Girl can dish it out like or better than the rest of us.

It might be fun to observe if her and Tiger Educated go at it, if an intense LSU Oklahoma disagreement should arise. A well thought out and backed up, yet passionate, discussion would ensue.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I think you're right Ben, I think she can run with the big dog's
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
I was not making excuses for our loss to LSU (they outplayed us and outcoached us), I was answering a question about whether or not our #2 pre-season ranking was deserved in 2004. And I haven't blamed any refs. I mean, if you wanna bring up Oregon, I could blame a ref, but for the record I haven't blamed refs. I've also admitted respect for SEC and admitted that we totally deserved our loss to USC. And I will say that Texas fans are some of the whiniest fans I've ever met.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
TC, I think you may have met your match, go ahead on.........
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
And all fans are bias, it's what makes us fans. Even your beloved Mack Brown admits how hard it is to vote in the BCS Coaches' Poll without some bias. Being bias is part of being a fan, but there has to be a moderation with admitting your weaknesses and respecting other teams - and this Sooner fan can do that.
    Boomer!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thanks Sooner-girl good response welcome aboard.
    Adios Tomcat
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
A real fan will admit it!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
1Tomcat you should apologize for posting that! If I recalled when Texas lost to Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M you posted a lot of if's! If Colt McCoy wasn't injuried, if Jamaal Charles didn't fumble...sounds like excuses to me!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Wasnt me Lennie, you must be mistaken, probably some other UT fan.
I really enjoyed the OU game and have never made any excuses, I wil point out though on numerous occasions that OU fans in general do. Whether its losing to TTech,TCU,Boise St,West Virg or Oregon. I thought yall got robbed at Oregon too, but it was fun rubbin salt on the wound.
Also I will not apologize for my clever observations in detecting true OU fans from bandwagon fans. Reminds me of a country song Red Red Whine.
You always got to blame somebody. If the Horns get beat than they lost and thats it there's always next year. Cant we all just get along. I've actually toned down some over the last couple of days and I'm sure other folks on here understand that I'm really trying to be a good guy.

Making excuses or pointing out weaknesses does not equal a bandwagon fan. Bandwagon fans are the fans who will disappear from this message board later in the season because their team lost. Plus, there's a difference in pointing out why a team lost a game and making an excuse for a game. For instance, pointing out what the other team did to win the game rather than focusing solely what your team did to lose. Just saying...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
We will see when they lose! I am sure it was you and you also settled for a moral victory. They played OU real close! I ain't gone go through post to prove you did it. You also have bandwagon Texas Longhorns fans. I can detect them as well!

  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thats a purty good one right there I don't care who you are.
Coach Brown is really a heck of a guy and the winningest coach in NCAA the last ten years.Coach Davis the OC catches alot of heat from the Burnt Orange faithful and really should, they have done an outstanding job and they are learning to mix it up more. Sometimes it just seems like it too conservative and predictable.Texas has always had the philosophy of run the ball and dump it off short, move the chains gameplan and control the ball & the clock, now the will air it out more than they used too anyway. The Texas D has always been outstanding with exception of the last year or so, lost alot of superstars to graduation and went thru some coaching changes.
They've always done good against the run, but last year they stunk up in the pass coverage. Hopefully Muschamp will get the boys motivated and they can play hard.BTW the Horn's usually play better when they are Ticked off and an underdog.
Glad your in Austin, I helped build the Radision on 7th & 8th between Brazos and San Jacinto in the early eighties, its changed alot from then, still a purty laid back population, but the traffic sucks.

Just curious about anyone's thoughts on the USC/OSU game? I'm thinking the winner of that will make an appearance in the Championship. Also thinking OSU could struggle a bit with it being in LA and all.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I think Southern Cal wins and I think they do it by 10.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
Yea, I'm thinking SC will win it. If OSU loses I think the wind will go out of their sails and I doubt theyd make it too far. However, even if SC loses, I think they've still got a shot at yet another championship appearance.

Sooner Girl, welcome aboard, it's hard to believe we have another Sooner fan living in Texas, I'm beginning to believe there are more Sooner fans in Texas than in Oklahoma......LOL

Thanks! Well, I know when I was at OU I met nearly as many Texans as I did Okies, so I think the trend continues. We all head north for a few years and then cross that Red River and come back to Texas when we're done, ha! I do love finding Sooners in Texas though, especially Austin.

Then this is your lucky day, Sooner Girl meet Lennie Collins, Lennie is our fashion co-ordinator ( along with our leader of the blog, Kevin ) Lennie lives in Austin, Lennie please meet Sooner Girl........This should make the Texas fans happy..LOL
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I don't know about that. The national perception of OSU is down since their last 2 bowl flops. If USC takes a loss to them, I don't think they can climb back to the National Championship.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
Well, recent BCS championship shows that it's VERY unlikely for 2 undefeated teams to make it to the championship game (or even 1 undefeated for that matter). I'm not saying it would happen, but I'm saying USC could bounce back and probably still win the rest of their games (who'd stop them? - Oregon or Cal perhaps?). Whereas I could see it really knocking OSU's pride/confidence down (still recovering from the LSU loss, and then to get knocked down so early in the season) and they'll end up losing a few more as well (lack of confidence combined with the fact that they'll have shown weaknesses early on).
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I'd be scared of an early loss by OSU, and then climbing back into the title game, and then 3peating. I do hope and pray not to see the same thing this year that we've seen the last 2.

GeauxTigers0107, in my opinion your expectations of LSU are too high my friend. As you already know, LSU is breaking in a new, fresh QB. You have to expect the worst and refrain yourself from getting pissed off when they can't produce the way you want them to produce. I guess you can have hope a sense of hope being that like you said Jarrett Lee excelled in a spring game, but all that I am saying is don't have high expectations. I have to agree with Bleed Crimson in that the SEC west is wide open this year but I also think that it will be fairly weak. Bleed Crimson, if I were you I wouldn't expect phenomenal results from Alabama neither. When I had a chance to see Alabama play last season, the one thing I thought to myself was "man, JPW sucks!" Sorry. BOOMER!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I just hope he sucks on August 30th.
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    hahahaha.
that post gained some major points with me.
    (i HATE JPW!)
but, apparently our new OC is an amazing QB coach, and builds his offense around the QB, so maybe JPW will finally do some good.
or maybe just have some better luck, as in, when he screws up, it doesn't result in a TD for the opposition's defense.

and yes, the SEC west will be fairly weak, which is why i think alabama can win with a rebuilding team.
  • JB · 1 year ago
OU_FAn, most people base thier opinions about LSU about the loss of Ryan Perriloux. First of all, he played in two games( granted he played pretty well). Which isnt much better than Lee, and its not like he was Brett Favre material. PLus, his off the field stupidity made him more of a crutch than an asset

Does anyone else think ESPN College Gameday Final starts way too late on Saturday nights? I think they should start it right after the primetime game is over instead of showing sportscenter in between the two.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I fully agree. I usually spend most of my college football Saturdays snuggled up next to my favorite beverages, and with Gameday Final coming on so late, I never remember it the next day. Thankfully I will be using DVR this year so I can watch it the next day with some clarity.
  • jake · 1 year ago
Take into consideration those who many not enjoy CFB (gasp!) or just those who prefer the pro game. Every Saturday they flip to ESPN and see numerous CFB games to their displeasure. Sportscenter right after the primetime game provides a breather. This is kind of how I feel right now during MLB season.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
MLB season is horrific punishment for me. I still haven't figured out what I've done to deserve it, but it most certainly must've been very very bad.

People who don't like the college game should have to put up with it. We only get a few days a year with games. Compared to other sports, it is very small. We have to put up with everything else, so when it's our season, we should have full exclusive coverage.
  • JB · 1 year ago
yea it is way too late, especially on the east coast
  • dawgfan · 1 year ago
There are definitely more SEC West folks (fans of teams in the SEC West) than there SEC East folks on here. I would like to hear y'alls opinion on something. I was listening to a talk radio show yesterday and the host was talking about how wide open the SEC is this year, particularly who will represent the west in the Dome. His opening statement about the west was this, "I don't know much about what's going to happen in the west this year b/c it's so wide open, but I do know this, Miss St. is going to control who wins the west this year. Last year they beat both UA & AU and they will probably beat one of the big three this year. That one game will have a huge impact on who goes to the dome."

What do y'all, particulary SEC West fans, think of that statement?
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
i think its a legit statement.
the only thing is, i dont know jack shit about MSU football. so i have no clue whether theyre going to be good, bad, or whatever.
I will say that the SEC West is more wide open this year than its been in a long long time.
    Alabama has a shot
    Auburn has a shot
    LSU has a shot

Out of those schools though, i see Alabama and LSU being the front-runners.
Kodi Burns is going to crash and burn against a good defense, and Alabama and LSU both have that.
I hate to say it, because i say it almost every year, but i really think Alabama has the best shot this year. LSU doesnt have a leader at the QB position. Auburn doesnt have an intelligent, or accurate passer at the QB position. not to mention auburn lost one of the best defensive coordinators in the SEC, along with their offensive coordinator. they have to implement TWO new systems this year, with the defensive one being a downgrade.
    just my 2 cents worth.

But for the bottom 3, it will be:
MSU - Croom really is doing a great job with the resources he has. and its no longer a huge debacle if a loss to the bulldogs occurs.
Ole Miss - Has got a great coach, and may surprise a few people this season
Arkansas - Might beat Vanderbilt??? sorry but with no mcfadden, jones, or monk, i just cant see them getting close to .500

There you are, Bleed Crimson. I was beginning to think you had bled out...
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
    Bleed,
LSU will be fine at QB this year. Flynn only started one year and took them all the way. In '03 Matt Mauck was another example. All we need is a QB who won't make the mistakes to loose the game. JaMarcus Russell is as talented QB as LSU has ever had and he couldn't win it all because he made mistakes once in a while. Jarrett Lee has a year under his belt with the clipboard and excelled in the spring game, as did Andrew Hatch. Bottom line is, with the O-line returning all but one and the D-line looking better than last years (if that is possible), LSU should be in the hunt. FWIW, I think Auburn has a great shot to win the west. If we can get by them, it'll be a big step towards another SECW Championship. LSU hasn't won in Auburn since 1998 so we're due.........hopefully.

  • "BC" · 1 year ago
haha. JaMarcus Russell never won it all because he was forced to play under Les Miles.
and Matt Flynn SHOULDN'T have won it all, but due to a crazy, off year, LSU got to go to the NC game with TWO losses.
Give Les Miles the NE Patriots next year and he'll be sure to lose two games.
Les Miles is a joke, and if his talent level ever drops below #1 in the country, he will be exposed.

Sorry, just had to get that jab in there.

Hey BC Looks wide open to me and I think the whole country is looking foward to the Ole Miss at Arkansas, the Hog fans are wild and they have the Rebels at home. One Magazine that I've been looking at has Miss at #53 and Ark at #54, but nobody really knows anything, we will know more about the Rebs after the Wake game. The Bulldogs are going to be riding high again They have Tenn & LSU on the road before the Tuscaloosa game. I have to say that I watched the LSU vs KY game last year and acouple of others that they squeezed by, I dunno looks wide open in the SEC west to me an outsider. We will know more about the Hogs after they visit Austin Texas.
They run off their coach and lost some good players, but i wouldnt count them out of anything. Every year is different and I'm looking foward to another exciting year of CFB.
Yall open up with the Clemson Tigers, pretty tough opponent and yall travel to Ark, UGA and Tenn, not to mention Baton Rogue I really dont see anybody escaping without some L's including the Tide.

  • "BC" · 1 year ago
yeah, unfortunately, the best team in the country WILL NOT play in the NC game.
    why?
because the best team in the country will be from the SEC, and will most likely have more than 1 loss.
    USC will probably make it.
Oklahoma's got a good chance too.
Ohio St. also has a good shot.

dont even have to look at those three's schedules, and i already know those 3 will be BCS next season.
    why?
because they face maybe one, maybe two, worthy opponents in a season.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
So no one has played a game yet and you're proclaiming that the best team in the country will be from the SEC, huh?
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
just about always is. they just dont always get the shot to prove it.
i mean, when was the last time an SEC team LOST the NC game?
or even lost a BCS game?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I know of at least 1 which lost in the Sugar Bowl 3 years ago. Start there and move forward, or back if there aren't any more between then and now.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Well if they'd stop playing Ohio State maybe they would lose. I'm just saying let's not jump to that conclusion quite yet. There have been plenty of teams better than all of the SEC teams in the past few years. It could happen this year. We will see soon enough.

Speaking of, when's the last time Ohio State beat an SEC team? Have they ever? South Carolina's biggest claim is beating OSU twice in a row in the Outback bowl.

  • jake · 1 year ago
I'm not one of the "SEC West folks," but I agree the West is wide open. There's really not much to be expected from the West yet MSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss are all mediocre teams that will shake things up. It will be a dogfight amongst underdogs. I truly believe Auburn will emerge as the seasoned team, but it wouldn't completely surprise me if Bama broke through.

  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I think that the highest probability is that Alabama gets Croomed again. Whether or not Pete Holiday does a video commemorating the event remains to be seen...

The winner of the Auburn-LSU game will win the SEC west, and being that the visitor hasn't won since Auburn did it in 1999, I'd say the we have a slight edge.

Georgia has a tough schedule, and I see them dropping a few games, especially to Auburn, so I think it's possbile that Florida will make the trip to the Georgia Dome. Georgia may have a chance, however, if they wear some black uniforms and perform some end-zone celebrations every game.

Looks like the pre-season magazines are out and a preponderance of them gives the nod to Auburn and Florida.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I agree that MS St will have an impact as to which team, including themselves, becomes the next SEC W Champ. While LSU's loss of Perrilloux may have leveled the playing field, I'm not convinced it'll be that big an impact. Consider OU's Bradford, for example. I’m also not convinced Bama will have any more of an impact this year than they did last year, with the exception of maybe improving by one game. I still think they're at least another year away from contending for the SEC W, and at least two for contending for the whole ball-o-SEC wax. My prediction: It'll be between Auburn & LSU, with the rest of the group having close to the same records, save for AR at the bottom.
  • jake · 1 year ago
I'd like to propose this question: Which D1 program(s) are the most disappointing - i.e. teams that should be good or at least decent yet continue to disappoint.

As a Midwesterner, I have to vote for Indiana. They've been to only 2 bowl games since '93. Come on! It's not that hard to field a decent team. Despite Indiana's "play 13" for Hep story last year, they are expected to once again finish in the bottom 3 of the Big 10 this year.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Personally, I am very disappointed by Army every year. They should at least be able to win a few games and get to a bowl game. They have one of the most disciplined, and physically fit student bodies in the country. I would think they could use some of those guys to play football and win a couple.

I would have to say that Clemson must be mentioned. We've done an excellent job of not living up to potential. Here's hoping this year changes that trend.
  • JB · 1 year ago
Joe not to offend but clemson is one of the biggest underachievers in CFB so much talent..... also South Carolina
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
No offense taken. I brought it up and I get to live it every year. Like I said, maybe this year will be different, but I won't believe it until it happens. That first game will tell a lot about this season in my opinion.

I really don't feel that South Carolina underachieves that much. Maybe that's just me though. Their schedule year in and year out is very conducive to winning the vast majority of the first 7 or 8 games, and then losing the majority of the last 4 (they finish every season with Tennessee, then Arkansas, then Florida, then Clemson...that's rough).
  • jake · 1 year ago
Very true about Clemson. JB's claim is probably even more true. Clemson disappoints by not winning a championship yet has good teams. S. Carolina on the other hand just never has much more than a mediocre/poor team.
  • jake · 1 year ago
Let me revise. S. Carolina has a RELATIVELY mediocre/poor team amongst the SEC. In any other conference they would probably compete for championships each year.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Indiana's focus is on basketball. Give then about 3 more years and the football program will make noise in the Big 11!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago

IU certainly needs to establish some consistency with its coaching staff but do you think Lynch is the right guy?
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Jake...the man gots to have chance. Indiana is a BASKETBALL State. Can they hang with the Ohio State, the Michigan, and the Wisconsin of the Big 11? I think they can! It's going to take TIME! They have to get their football field ready first!
  • jake · 1 year ago
Here's what bothers me about IU: Indiana is NOT a basketball STATE. Indiana University is a BASKETBALL SCHOOL. Look at Purdue, they've been able to have decent success in both sports. Despite what many would assume, there is actually A LOT of good football talent in Indiana. Indianapolis schools put out a lot of good talent and Chicago talent is just an arm's reach. You don't hear about it too often but many other Big Ten teams recruit very good talent out of Indiana (it's not Texas, Cali, or FL by any means).
What amazes me is IU's ignorance to put all of its eggs in the basketball basket, especially when football is so much more lucrative. Michigan State is a great example of profit sharing between sports programs. They first need to get some consistency in coaching and must start injecting some serious $$ into its facilities in order to compete.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Jake...you are right BUT when I think of Indiana my folly automatically makes me think of basketball regardless if I refer to the state or school. There is good football there also. Just like when you say Texas most people including me thinks football BUT there is great basketball here as well!

I know this was being discussed on another thread, but is Lou Holtz losing it or something?
Just for the heck of it yesterday I looked and fast fowarded through a few games I had recored from last year prior to deleting them. One one halftime show he picked Louisville over Kentucky and even went so far as to say that its been since 79 that KY has beaten a ranked opponent and its going to be alot longer. Hey coach they beat #1 LSU in triple overtime, beat Louisville too.
During one games halftime report it was Michigan vs Notre Dame 0-2 vs 0-2 look somebodies got to win, It seems like this guy places a curse on the teams he comments on or something. Instead of talking about Troy & Ok State or Texas Tech & Rice the teams that were playing these knuckleheads were talking about Loyd Carr and Bill Belecheck. I'm not watching Michigan I'm watching Troy, and I'm not looking at the Patriots I'm looking at Rice vs TTech.
These announcers need to focus on what they are broadcasting, hey Troy was 0-2 at that point in the season after Fla and Ark, give me a break-ESPN. Same record as Mich & ND.
Then when they interrupt the game and show highlights of Tiger Woods-I dont care about golf, if I did I'd tune into it or wear a transister radio or something- This is college football not Golf and not NFL and not MLB O.K. I deleted these games and others to make room for this years hype & B/S or to make room for games that I as a fan want to watch.
I'l get off my soapbox now and I hope some ESPN numbskulls read this.

Tomcat, good observation. I saw the same thing in a number of games, where instead of doing some interviews or side discussions during T.O.'s, they were doing while plays were being run. I was especially pi$$ed by how often it occurred during Big East games. Were these guys bored or something?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Ya Zac I always try to remain in a positive frame of mind, but I find myself hollerin at the T.V. and I often wonder whats up with all the B/S ? The guys on TBS were purty good and the old Raycom was O.K. and I actually like the guys on CSTV former players from different leagues who actually try to disscuss whats actually going on.
If its a UT game thats being aired I actually tune in the local radio program, they actually talk about the formation thats being run and comment about the game that they are broadcasting.
The worst thing about ESPN/ABC besides the interuptions is that sometimes they will just leave and go somewhere else, while the game I'm trying to watch is still in progress. Sometimes the game that I want to watch is picked up after the preceiding game and I find myself out in the truck listening to the radio, then my wife comes out and gets me, you can come in its on now, having missed half of the first quarter.
I've seen several bowl games where they didn't have the trophy presentation or interveiws or anything after the game, unless its one of the big 4.
I agree with other posters on here concerning the highlights etc etc. being broadcast kinda late, seems like they ought to show that stuff on Sunday morning, na fat chance you missed it, its all NFL now bubba.

FSN is awful! The commentators love to just talk about their own football playing days or how many corn dogs they ate at the fair (I'm not joking - we even got an animated grid during the game). Instant replays feel like a thing from the past - they'd rather show me some "Chevy play of the game" or something, rather than actually show a replay from a (controversial) play that just happened. I really wish FSN weren't the Big XII network. Compared to the games I watch on ABC or ESPN it's so much worse. Not to mention, they never bother to give score updates from other games simultaneously being broadcast. At least ESPN/ABC have scores scrolling and constant updates. FSN forgets that their game is not the only one going on and that all the other games have an effect on what's going on during their game. So frustrating!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago

Tomcat: Blackledge does his little segment typically on the Saturday night prime time game. He goes to a restaurant sometime that week to sample the local fare. A lot of these games are SEC matches, so it seems like he's always stopping off at a little BBQ shack or something.

Good to see a guy from the northeast enjoying some down-home BBQ. What's really fun is introducng foreigners to good BBQ. An Austrian friend of mine would never eat pork with the sauce when he first got here 9 years ago, but now the guy can't pass a BBQ place without getting a sandwich or some ribs.

Can someone please post some EVIDENCE upon which they base this idiotic suggestion that Miss State is going to be even remotely competitive in the SEC-W?

Otherwise, kindly dispense with the poly' correct pretense that they will be good...

...simply because everybody wants Sly Croom to succeed. That's not quite how things tend to play out on the gridiron.

    GO GATORS!!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Exactly. I don't think they have a prayer.

My prediction is that Auburn wins the SEC-W this year, and that the SEC-E will be the better division, for what that's worth.
  • JB · 1 year ago
Well i cant say that i agree with your predicton about the west for obvious reasons.....................but i defintley agree about MSU
  • Zac · 1 year ago
You want proof? Try this on for size. After 5 years of 2-10, 3-8, & 3-9 records, Blam-O! MSU wins 8 games, including a bowl, because of a half-way decent defense and improved offensive play. Following said 8-5 season, they return 14 on both sides of the ball, plus punters & kickers. The defense is expected to be especially good with 8 guys returning. The offense returns 6, including its QB (played as a true FR), RB (1,000+ yard rusher), and 2nd leading receiver (over 500 yards).

With that much alone, they should be at least as good as last year. The "O-Line" is where they're hurting, having lost 60% of its interior (C & both T's), not to mention their 2 best TE's. It's said the guys coming up are decent. If they can jell, give QB, Carol time to throw, open decent holes for Dixon, and if a 2nd deep threat emerges at WR, they could legitimately make some noise.

My take, they'll repeat the success of last year. That doesn't mean they'll contend for the West, but 7 or 8 wins out of the SEC ain't bad. Last season they did beat Auburn (beat FL), KY (beat LSU), and Bama (beat TN). While I wouldn't expect them to repeat against Auburn, I would expect repeats against Bama, KY, possibly Ole Miss, and pick up a win this year against AR. In effect, I don't see them winning the SEC West, but do see them having an impact upon who does and doesn't. In less than 45 days, we'll see.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Excellent post Zac. Seriously. No emotional blather, no talk of civil rights burden on Croom's shoulders...just a plain statement of salient facts, buttressing a solid analysis.

I'm not quite sold on MSU yet--kinda' have to see it to believe it--but you've given me a reason to take them a little more serious.

Just picked up my national Athlon's copy yesterday (they got UF @ #1! kinda' cool, but usually a kiss of death), so I haven't had much of a chance to comb through it---though it's definitely on the weekend agenda. I'll be sure to read what they have to say about MSU.

    GO GATORS!!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I haven't picked up my Athlon's yet. You see, the problem with living in Nebraska, the Athlon's here are geared for the Big 12. I have to call back home (up-state, NY) and get my seeesterrr to send me a copy. I missed last year's because she wuz too cheeeep to spend the 7 bucks. Well, that's sibling rivalry. This time, I'll just call em like I did 2 years ago and order the Big East edition.

Don't get too down on your gators, by the way. I honestly think they'll give GA all they can handle, and then some. If they clean up the defensive woes (Their 2ndary was almost as bad as WVU's), they should take the Dawgs. Otherwise, hold on tight; that one's going down to the wire.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
...that's why I got the National Athlon's...and I'm sure there are a few more problems than just that, with living in Nebraska.... ;)

I checked into MSU again...your points are well taken, and I realize that my view was tainted by the 45-0 demolition at the hands of LSU. Plus, most of their wins weren't that impressive (UAB, Tulane, etc.--at least 4, maybe 5).

Still, I'll have to see it to believe it, and frankly, I'm much more impressed with the things going on in Oxford, than in Starkville. I still see MSU occuppying its regular place in SEC w gutter--although I wouldn't be surprised at all, if Ark'y makes a run for the gutter--leaving MSU at 5th in SEC w.

    My $.02.

    GO GATORS!!

Not at all. I guess I'll be watching the Wolfpack vs. the Gamecocks that night.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
T -41 days and counting. Looking at the list I'm a bit intrigued with the following:

    Thur.

UTEP @ Buffalo: Since 2002 Buffalo has done well to win 2 games a season. Last year they won 5. Buffalo is a decent sized city; HS teams in that area have gone to NY state play-offs. With the right coaching & recruiting, they could be an up-and-comer in a few years. This could be an entertaining game. UTEP

Wake @ Baylor: I'm with Tomcat on this one. The Bears could make some noise on behalf of the Big-12. Wake

NC St @ SC: Interesting opening season match-up for both schools. The Wolf Pack could pull off the upset. NC St

OR St @ Stanford: The Cardinals have proven they can be tough at home. OR

    Fri.

Temple @ Army, SMU @ RICE, Syracuse @ NW: These could be exciting. Too bad no one will watch. Temple

    Sat

VA Tech @ ECU: Given the way both started & finished last year, Tech will not be surprised by ECU, but it should still be a decent game. Tech

UT @ MI: I have my own reasons for seeing this one. Still, given MI's 0-2 start last year, how will they respond to the Utes for their opener this year? UT

USC @ VA: The "ump-teen" PAC-10 Champ vs. last year's ACC "cardiac kids". The question is, "Will it be close?" USC

OK St @ WA St: This is one I would love to see. Given the match-up problems both teams give to the other, this one can only be decided by multiple OT's. OK St

Appy St @ LSU: The Battle of Champions; I really don't think the loss of Ryan Perrilloux will make a bit of difference in this game. LSU's depth is far too great for this to turn out like MI last year.

AL @ Clemson: This is similar to FSU @ Clemson last year. Only, Clemson "should" be better this year. Then again, so "should" AL. Clemson

    Sun

KY @ Louisville: I wish all of KY's & Louisville's personnel from last year could return for this one. It would have been an epic Round 2. Instead, it'll be no more interesting than SMU @ RICE. Louisville.

CO St @ CO: The Buff's won't be looking ahead to anyone. CO

And now for some real Monday Night Football

Fresno St @ Rutgers: Are these Dogs that good, or will Mike Teel have a break out season? Rutgers.

TN @ UCLA: TN may not be quite as loaded as last year, but UCLA isn't Cal either. Vols.

favored to win this one and probably will.
This folks is my upset special, The Bears
have been preparing for this game all off
season long, new Coach, new attitude
    NC St @ USC Cocks

    Oreg St @ Stanford Beavers

SMU @ Rice ? ? Owls Here is another one that looks evenly
matched, Owls have same QB Clement and reciever Dilliard, they were #6 in NCAA in total offense with avg 325 yds per game, question is were's the D, Can they stop June Jones pass happy attack

Syracuse @ Northwestern Orangemen- somebody has got to win

    Memphis @ Mississippi Rebels

Virginia Tech @ East Carolina Hokies Dont listen to Lou Pirates

Florida Atlantic @ Texas Horns The Sunbelt Champs come in and could win this one in an upset special, the Horns D better be ready

    Utah @ Mich Utes???
    USC @ UVA Trojans
Ok St @ Washington St Cowboys

    App ST @ LSU Tigers

TCU @ New Mexico ?? Frogs This looks like a real even matchup

Miss St @ La Tech Bulldogs The Bulldogs have to win -the Maroon

UL Monroe @ Auburn Warhawks all the way baby- na Tigers at home

N ILL @ Minn looks like the Gophers I dunno ????

    Ark St @ T A&M Aggies

La Laf @ S Miss Golden Eagles

    Mich St @ Cal Bears

    Bama @ Clemson Tigers

    ILL @ Missu Tigers

KY @ Louis Louisville ???? chose home team

Fresno @ Rutgers RU ???? another good one

    Tenn @ UCLA VoLs

Sooner Girl, you don't have to stir long on this site to get the pot boiling, we are out numbered about 8 to 1 SEC vs anyone......LOL
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
Well, I have a lot of respect for SEC; they're an incredibly tough conference. Although, admittedly I get a bit frustrated with ESPN's constant coverage of SEC as if they are the only tough conference. Big XII is amazing but it tends to take a backseat to SEC sometimes (like when Mizzou and KU were the #1 and #2 team in the nation).

But my feelings towards Georgia being overrated are independent of my feelings towards their conference...at least for now :)
  • JB · 1 year ago
I am an SEC fan but i agree that UGA is overrated... i agree with Joe, rankings shouldnt come out until after the first week!!!!!!!!!
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
I'm also a bit reluctant to put Buckeyes at #2 (although I'm not one to put too much into end-of-season Bowl losses, even back-to-back). I'm thinking USC will prove stronger and should be ranked a little higher.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
If they can get past Stanford, USC could go all the way.
Stanford travels to Ft Worth this year to get even with the Frogs.
I'm glad that there is a OSU vs USC game, because that means that somebody has to lose. The BCS favors the Big 10/11 and the Pac-10.
Everybody on here with the exception of me & Lennie know that the SEC is the toughest.
Yes sports fans Lennie & I agree on some things

    Sheesh.

  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
All preseason rankings are crap. They're always based on a team's record last year, number of returning starters, and usually how much historical success a program has.

The unfortunate thing is that it is very difficult for a team who starts the season outside of the top 25 to play for the National Championship, so it really hurts them.

They never will of course, but I wish they'd go away.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
I completely agree. I sometimes wish polls never came out until a few weeks into the season. They can unfairly advantage those at the top and hurt those who have to work their way up all season.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Absolutely. Releasing them just after week 4 would get my vote.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Kinda like Auburn had to do in 2004, when USC and OU started #1 and #2??
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
Although in that case it turned out rather accurate. USC and OU ended up playing in the championship game that year. That doesn't happen often. Although, I still reiterate that I have problems with the existence of pre-season rankings.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Do you think that OU was deserving of the #2 ranking at the end of the 2004 season, or that USC deserved #1? Especially considering that Auburn played four top 15 teams in the regular season, USC played two, and OU only played one?

Auburn started #17 and STILL almost caught OU in the final regular season poll. For obvious reasons, I agree that the polls should wait 4-6 weeks before commencing...
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
Well, for obvious reasons OU didn't deserve to be in the 2004 championship game - we absolutely blew it.

Although, concerning pre-season rankings, I think it was fair. I mean you could argue that others deserved it more, and I wouldn't necessarily disagree. However, looking back at our 2003 loss to LSU one has to take into consideration that Mike Stoops did not coach that game (our first without him) and that Jason White was critically injured but played anyway. The game wasn't a blowout, and one must also take into consideration that we had to play the game in New Orleans. Taking all that into consideration, we played a great game, and we had a lot of returning starters in 2004, pushing us to that #2 pre-season spot.

Biased excuses? Perhaps. But I suppose that just further iterates the absurdity of pre-season polls.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
And thanks all for the conversations. I've been editing a website all day, it was nice to have little football breaks in there.

  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
JB...I have been living in Austin, Texas since 12/95. This is the first year EVER the hype of Texas football has not shown, really. The hype is building around 2009. Why? I don't know. The newspapers and the local sports announcers/writers are saying with their own mouths and typing with their own hands that this will be the WORST season for Texas under William Brown. Some are predicting 6-8 losses. I am not buying it. I realistically see them losing to Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and Texas A&M. Maybe Colorado.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Maybe I'm crazy, but I see it as a two-loss year for Texas, excluding (if necessary) Big XII championship game and a bowl game.

I may regret saying this once we get into the season, but that's how I see it and I'll admit it if I'm wrong.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Texas will lose at least four games and WILL NOT leave the State of Texas after the Texas A&M game. The Big 12 Championship game is in Kansas City, Missouri. The Longhorns will have more arrests than losts this year!
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Lennie, that's your opinion and I don't think there is anything I can say to change it, so I'm not going to bother. In a few days, people went from talking about how this year's RRR would be one of the biggest ever to saying that Texas may not even be bowl eligible this year. It changes approximately every time Mack Brown sneezes. I wonder what would happen if he got a cold...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Bevo Boy...you gotz your opinion and I gotz mindz. Neither you or I know for sure until the players get on the field. Do I believe Texas are going to be a 6 or 8 lost team? HECK NO! Do I think Texas can win the Big 12 South? HECK NO! But I know they are not going to preform like Oklahoma when Rhett Bomar and JD Quinn were kicked off the team? I don't know! Man, I am telling you there is NO buzz about the Longhorns in FOOTBALL or BASKETBALL right now. You are right in a sense a lot can change between now and the start of the season. Remember Rhett Bomar and JD Quinn?

I couldn't reply under the other one so I put it here. I remember Rhett Bomar, but who's JD Quinn? Was he kicked off the team with Bomar? And for the Longhorn fans on here, I don't think I can say it any better than Michael Scofield did, "Just have a little faith."
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Yes, JD Quinn, the starting offensive lineman, was also kicked off the team with Rhett Bomar!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
That's a pretty cool trick with running the right margin all the way out. I'm going to have to remember that...
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
I agree with ya WEA, just don't think ol Kev is too fond of it. Zac still didn't go back and edit that post to get the page right...oh well. When I clicked on this thread I was like, WTH?? Damn Discus again! Can't reply in the right spots.........ever........and quite trying for that matter.....and now their margins are screwed up. I was obviously wrong...lol.

    Geaux Tigers
    Geaux SEC

Geeez, what happened to this thread..
I'm gonna be traveling thru SEC territory for the next few days, going to a machinery auction in Nashville, I think I'll pick up a Arkansas hat or shirt so I can Jinx the Longhorns when the play the Hogg's this year...

Guys - Another long rough day at the office, so no new posts. I've got *literally* 15 things flagged to post when I can get some time. Hopefully tonight. Sorry.

Didn't see it, but heard our coach was on there. His first with espn since he was hired.
  • Sooner_Girl_in_Texas · 1 year ago
What's the deal with the point system anyway? I don't get it.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
You will have to ask Lennie about that, because he is the leading authority.
OU Ron well we have two or three OU fans on here now who can get along with the Burnt Orange nation.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
1Tomcat...I do not understand this point system and I do not care about it. I know one thing I am not messin' with anyone's points. I was at 10 last night and while I was at a friend's house earlier I checked and was at -2. Someone has nothing good to post so they have to mess with a person points to get some junk started. I bet if Kevin gotz rid of it most of these current bloggers would leave!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thanks Lennie Heck I saw that you were 10 ? Beats the heck outa me, I was 6 then 2 and now 5, by the time this post who knows or cares. I wouldnt want to run anybody off though I kinda like the diversity and enjoy the occasional drive by poster. I 'm not going to mess with anything, that joker will probably read this and give somebody 10,000 points or something-Whatever
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Why do you want people to leave?
  • JB · 1 year ago
Surprislingly enough i agree with Lennie!!! this point thing is dumb, especially because it is abused, I have gone from a 6 to -8 and havent even made a post in 4 hours!!!!!!!! Some people with no life sit around and mess with the point thing
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
SAY IT AGAIN JB, cause no one is going to listen to me. I give all of you my word...it isn't me. I just spent 2 hours and 45 minutes at the movies a few hours ago watching the Dark Knight!
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
How exactly did I go from 3 points to 35? I guess, from what I'm hearing, I made somebodies good list? Maybe you'd like the point system if you jumped way up like I did
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I came to the conclusion the points were meaningless when I first saw them.

They are an artifact of Disque and do not represent the reality of Fanblogs.

They are best ignored, but if a post comes along you really like, or really don't like, you are free to click the up or down arrow by it and participate in a meaningless game.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Again...misquoted! I said if Kevin gotz rid of this points approval most new or current bloggers would probably leave. I am sure that I am the most misquoted blogger on here!
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Wait, I'm confused... you like the points or don't? (Either way, not much I can do right now to disable, unfortunately.)
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Kevin, no disrespect to you and not to be rude BUT this is your gig. I am only here on a pass. You are the boss here! I don't like it because War Eagle Atlanta and Zac made excellent points on how do you control the ratings? Some FOOL has gotten on here not to talk college football BUT to get laughs. One can get on here just to add or subtract one score without reason. If you put it on the ballet, I would vote against it! If you could "control" it like War Eagle Atlanta and Zac suggested I still would vote against it but I could deal with it. I don't care about this point system. I have never suggested that I am the "Lee Corso" on here but I am no dummy. I do have a little knowledge but I can always gain more. I have never stated that my team or it's conference is the nucleus of college football. I am here to talk college football like everyone else here. We all have something to offer BUT unfortunately some clown has gotten on here and distorted it. This webpage is
wonderful for getting information before, during, and after the college football season. It's just sad that someone is trying to turn it into a website for laughs.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I have requested to disable the points, but I don't know when or if that will happen.

I would suggest that what really matters is the quality of your posts, not the stupid points.

***EVERY*** system that's open to the public can & will be abused. The true test will be if we decide to focus on the BS or keep the awesome comments coming.

It's not about points, it's never been about points, and anyone who wants to make it about points is probably not going to enjoy this blog.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Um, what? I just wanted you to elaborate on something you said and asked you a simple question. I wasn't judging you. It's not nearly as involved as you are indicating. It was just a simple question, I promise.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Clemson Joe...I am not angry at you and you did not misquote me! You misinterpeted me. I will say it again if Kevin eliminated the points approval system I believe a few bloggers will leave because they no longer will get a laugh trying to discredit someone by points. I do not want them to leave although I give a doggone how they approve of me or disapprove of me even if they stay or go. It's not up to me.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Lennie, I never quoted you. Reading what you wrote, one would assume, because of the way that you worded it, that you would prefer for that to happen. If that's not what you meant, then i apologize, but that is the way that it comes off. I simply wanted you to elaborate on what you were trying to say. That's all.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Man, I wish the days will return when a person is guilty by what he says or does NOT by how someone took it! I am glad that I am not on trial for my life and some of you on here are in the jury box!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey Lennie did you enjoy the Movie?
I just got on here a while back and I looked at those points, why I dont know curiosity, your at -58 whatever, maybe we should just ignore this a-hole, because he is probably laughing at our expense.
If he was a real man he would come on here and identify himself.

The Dark Knight is a LONG MOVIE. I am going to see it again tomorrow with my son's cousin. He is not legally my nephew any longer since his aunt and I divorced BUT I still take him to the BIG movie with my son since his dad has to work most of the time. 1Tomcat not to be rude BUT I gives a doggone about those points. If you can post something good do you really need someone's approval? This clown can keep deducting my points all he wants, he or she does not have anything worth posting. I will call him/her out again...Clueless Joe/Josie can you get my score down to -1000 by midnight. You have no lover, no friends, no life, no funds, and no sense so you should be able to do it! Take care 1Tomcat and go see the movie: Dark Knight. Do not drink a lot of liquids cause it is a long a movie and it's worth it!

By new or current bloggers most would assume that you are talking about those who post here regularly.

The context of the point system alters this to indicate that you are talking about those who visit the site without comment, or make one or two comments, then play with the point system.

It is these new or current hacks we could do away with. Personally they are not altering the content so I don't really care. If they were affecting the content Kevin could delete the baloney.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Mr. Ben Prather...say it again cause I don't think they heard you! You said it right not the ones that post on here regularly. The fools that just arrived and are messing with the points to try and get laughs.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Yeah... as far as the points are concerned... I (quite honestly) could care less. If I could disable them altogether, I would. I have requested that functionality, but... we'll see.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Disque should be able to give you, as the site administrator, access to block IP addresses from malicious users for points related to your site.

This would allow you to see show is voting for whom, and readily find the problem. Disque would only need to give you permissions. Since only one or two bad apples exist this should address this petty annoyance.

They are probably enjoying having inspired the bulk of this thread. This is the last I will mention the issue, as discussing it further can only insight more immaturity.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Looking into that as we speak.
  • JB · 1 year ago
This situation is extremely unlikely considering all of the SEC teams play the rest of them except for AUB-FLA so some of them might have 3 losses...and if fresno loses to Wisconsin then who else do they play???
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Florida is situated about where an SEC team with three losses would sit in the polls, if no other teams from the PAC 10, Big East, Big 10 or ACC have 2 or less losses.

As for Fresno State: Rutger, UCLA, Boise State, Toledo, Nevada, Hawaii

While not stellar, it plus 11 and 1 could get them to #14, amongst 3 loss BCS teams.

Where you flagged or something, whats up with all the x's ?
BTW I hadnt looked on here lately and I gained like 90 points whatever that means
Kev said he disabled it, so now I guess these jokers wont mess with your -142 or whatever it is now, two days ago I was 4 or something, now I guess we are all stuck which is cool.
What's the retail price on a 04 Chev 4 door PU only 33,000 miles V-8 with spray in liner and brush guard? I might need to refinance or sell it, only one year left on note.
