Arnold is the master of the english language - is he not? Cracks me up - some of the stuff that comes outta that guys mouth. I always love to hear him try and say "California". It kills me. And his verbs and adjectives, the way that they get spoken backwards, is a very special treat.

Man, I'm completely pissed off that I got to take this guy out to the Coliseum, and watch USC beat the crap outta Arizona State. I got stuck with it. Meanwhile, I'm gonna be missing the Texas/Oklahoma game live. This just came up last night. I really wanted to see this one. I'll be able to get the Florida/LSU and Penn State/Wisconsin games later. But, why would this clown want to attend USC/Arizona State when the RRS is going on is beyond me. The only good thing that could develop is that Mitch Mustain might get some good game experience in this one. Maybe even Aaron Corp can get some good work. Other than that, I'm gonna have to watch that stupid horse run up and down the sidelines, all the while having to listen to the band trumpet "Fight On" and "All Hail" about a million times.....It's enough to make somebody sick....

I just love this “Discuss” thing. One day all you have to do is open the page and dive right in. The next day you have to jump through hoops signing on and everything. Not to mention, it won’t take my pass-word or login ID anymore. I tell ya; theez computa’s iz out ta get me.

Tommy T, sounds like a whole lotta luv for your team there. Nothing like a little refreshing team spirit to lift the sole. I take it you can’t record OK/TX. I have to give a speech about Nuclear power at a symposium for the American Chemical Society. Not only will I miss OK/TX, but Syracuse/WVU as well. But, az day say, "Demz da brakes".

That's why I studied Chemistry & not Computer Sciences. I'd worry too, if I worked in IT or NIS at my plant. Since I work in the Chemistry Dept, you may breath a well earned sigh of relief. (Ya bastage!)
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Zac:

No, I'll record it - but I know that I'm gonna know the final score before then. Ruins everything. I have to watch it because I haven't seen Texas play at all yet. This is a good game to get a real good feel for what Texas can do.

I love the Trojans, but honestly, I would never want to travel up into Los Angeles, just to watch some beatdown of some hapless team. I usually just give the tickets away. This particular guys "date" doesn't want to go - so he wants me to personally escort him to the game. It'll be alright. Really though, I much prefer watching the games on "hi-def" with about six different TV's blarin' all over the house, while taking in a different game no matter what room I walk into. Now, that's college football. I can probably take in parts of about eighteen different games in one Saturday. It's awesome. Plus, we got computers going and getting all the scores posted constantly. It's like watching the NYSE when everything used to be good. Oh well, those days are gone......for now.....
  • TheMayor · 1 year ago
    Tommy,

You know that this guy is absolutely going to want to leave by halftime, you're screwed...sounds about as much fun as a "scramble" golf tournament with clients on a Saturday during CFB Season (two weeks ago, I was in hell).
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Mr. Mayor:

How'd I know that you would understand? I'm actually hoping that it is 50-0 by halftime. Carpenter isn't even supposed to play. I think Herring is out also. ASU is gonna get killed. So, maybe the guy will want to leave by the end of the 1st quarter if everything goes well. Fortunately for me, "the Big Dog" has ADHD and becomes easily distracted, so I don't think he's gonna be able to hang for too long. Maybe I'll just find him another "date" at the game - and leave his sorry azz there. That way I can go and watch the 2nd half of the RRS.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Tommie-Thought you were a Trojans fan, A chance to see a game live, hey you never know might be better than some that I've attended Texas vs FAU, Texas vs Baylor, Texas vs Rice etc etc
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Tomcat:

I'm totally spoiled by now. Really though, if I had one inclination in the world, it would be to beat Texas for the National Championship. You've got to just know that, right? So, since your boys look pretty good this year, I'll be pullin' for Texas to win the game and the Big 12 Championship. That way, if USC is fortunate enough to make it to the game, we might just be starin' across the field at the one team that really needs an azz kickin'.

It will take a lot for Ok State to beat Mizzou they are too tough, so many good games, my game is going to be the LSU at Florida game, Florida is always tough at the Swamp but LSU is a better team and their secondary will be able to control Percy Harvin. As a Pac-10 fan my whole life I want to see Arizona have another good week and possibly break into the top 25

  • "BC" · 1 year ago
that is exactly how they can be upset.

ie TE won't post on sunday. why? he's gonna be really upset.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
    You obviously don't know TE.

If they lose he will be posting volumes on why they should have won.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Ben:

He could write that novel now. Oh, that's right, he's already done that on the other thread. Well then, since that's out, maybe just a litany of excuses would be in order. Frankly, I'll think that it's gonna be more along the lines of a "chest thumping expedition", sprinkled in with the usual blovatation about how superior the SEC is - and how great a Florida team that LSU just beat was. But, should Vince McMahon control the outcome of this one (that would be Florida winning - add's much more drama to college football), then the only excuse that I could go with - would be the "college football is fixed" theory. It would be the only viable explaination for why LSU would lose this game. If that were to happen though, then TE can take great comfort in knowing, that Vince McMahon is gonna be helping LSU beat Alabama later on. Oh, the drama!
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
If we haven't corrected the issue of the back out of the backfield, then we are in SERIOUS trouble on defense.

Harvin's threat as a running back who can be sent into the slot in motion would necessitate a linebacker to go out into coverage with him. We already have nickelback (not the band) issues in terms of some coverage disappointments. This is a soft underbelly everyone since Spurrier in '07 has picked at, but LSU has had superior athletic talent to combat it.

We have not been able to combat it this year...

If Peveto & Mallory can figure out how to stop the bleeding, then we can win going away, because our OL is going to maul UF...If that's an issue, its a shootout...
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
I agree with all except Oklahoma. Texas' pass defense...well...it sucks. Bradford will eat them alive.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Do What Have you seen any games this season? Arkansas tried to pass the ball so did Rice one of the top offensive passing teams- Colorado I'm just guessing you havent seen a single UT game because I saw tipped pass and tipped pass and QB sack after QB sack, they look outstanding, now BU's pass D and TCU's got tore up, but OU couldnt stop the run.I have to admit that I've only seen one tOSU game this season and I wasnt impressed at all. I think alot of folks like yourself gonna be surprized. If Texas wins it will be the refs fault or that sorry Texas D against the pass?
    Hookem-Horns
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Actually, no. I haven't seen Texas play this year. But I have seen their stats against very weak opponents. Not good. See for yourself.

If they get pressure on Bradford it may mask the problems they're having in their secondary. Then again, maybe their stats are due to their opponents having to throw the ball on every down because they're behind, and the 2nd and 3rd string guys are getting a lot of work.

So, fair enough. Good luck, maybe your team will prove me wrong.

"I have to admit that I've only seen one tOSU game this season and I wasnt impressed at all."

I've seen them all. I'm not sure if you've seen me comment here or not, but I predicted USC would beat OSU by 3 TDs with Beanie playing. I haven't been impressed at all either! I calls them as I sees them.

"If Texas wins it will be the refs fault or that sorry Texas D against the pass?"

Nope. It'll be because they earned it.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Tom I've seen your posts on here and that was kinda a cheap shot on my part about tOSU. Your right about the 2nd & 3rd string getting alot of work and the same goes for the TO stats, 3 INT's on the year and Colt gets credit for one the other one that I remember shoulda been caught was tipped up by a backup TE. This game will be as much about the OU D stopping Texas as the Texas D stopping OU. OU has an outstanding O line and they are really good at the real fast no-huddle offense, they stike real fast at their opponents and the defense has no time to make adjustments and substitutions. The OU hasnt faced a team like Texas and they really had trouble with BU's running game. This game will probably be that the winner will have fewer turnovers and less mistakes than the other, last year was last year and UT had some turnovers lost the game by 7. This aint last years defense and they may get burned on a few, but if they play with same intensity as they have so far this season they will make it a very interesting game.
    Adios Tomcat

I did the same thing with Texas and Oklahoma. I really have to do a better job of paying attention on my final submissions. I go over the damn thing 3 times before I "finalize" it. You'd think I'd have the common sense to pay attention to it when I'm reading it for the 3rd time.

What would be a good week?

    5 losses by any of:
    Oklahoma
    Texas
    LSU
    Florida
    Missouri
    Oklahoma State
    Penn State
    Wisconsin
    Michigan State
    Northwestern

Oh, wait, that part will work out...

Ok then, 2 losses by any of:
USC, Texas Tech, Georgia, Ohio State, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Notre Dame.

    Finally, losses by all of:
Wyoming, New Mexico, Southern Mississippi, Western Kentucky, Colorado State and Southern Methodist.

    Ok, New Mexico is optional.

Welp, since I can’t get on “Pick Em” either...

OK Vs. TX: See post under “OU set to hang new record on Longhorns” thread
CO at KS (15): Buffs still growing; KS still for real. Close but no cigar. Jay Hawks
UT (13) at WY: What should be smooth sailing will be a rough afternoon. UT by not much.
Vandy (14) at MS St: Bulldogs give it their all; Vandy still goes bowl eligible. Vandy
NE at TX Tech (7): Huskers won’t know what hit em (still reeling from last week). Tech
AS St at USC (9): What ever happened to Jimmy Johnson’s Sun Devils? USC
TN at GA (10): Vols won’t go away; Dawgs make em pay. GA
MI St (19) at NW (22): Spartans knock NW from ranks of un-beaten’s, and probably Top-25.
Purdue at OSU (11): Buckeyes continue to bounce back.
AR at Auburn (23): Nuttless AR is not Vandy. War Eagle!
    NM at BYU (8): Cougars...by a lot!
LSU (3) at FL (12): Tebow is fine! So’s LSU’s defense. FL in a critical SEC squeaker.
OK St (17) at MO (2): Battle of un-beaten’s. One’s arguably underrated; the other arguably overrated. If Cowboys keep it close into the 3rd Qtr, they get the upset; if Tigers lead by more than 13 at the half, they get the win. It’s in Columbia – good news for the Tigers. MO.
Penn St (6) at WI (24): Badgers think they’re still in it. Jo Pa fever strikes at Camp Randal. Lions
Boise St (16) at S MS: State of Boise shows they too are Road Worthy. Broncos
IA at IN: Battle of “hard-luck” teams. IA lost last 2 by 6 pts combined. Hawkeyes
Toledo at MI: I don’t care if it is Rodriguez’s 1st year with the Wolverines. MI.
ECU at VA: Cav’s have shown they still have something left; Pirates have shown they lost what they had. VA
Syracuse at WVU: Orange needs new HC. WVU puts exclamation on that fact. Mountaineers
MN at IL: Gophers aren’t playing bad. Illini are playing better. IL
Rutgers at Cincinnati: Knights can’t get a break. Bear-Cats.
SC at KY: Defense takes one from the OBC. KY
E KS St at Texas A&M: Aggies save some face. A&M
ND at NC: At last, Davis has Tar-Heels on a roll. NC
TCU at CO St: Rams can’t get a break. Horned Frogs.
C FL at Miami: Closer than it should be. Canes.
AS at Stanford: This one could be entertaining. I’m going w/the Cardinals.
WA ST at OR St: Beavers roar, if you can imagine that.
IA St at Baylor: Imagine Baylor in a couple of years. Bears
Air Force at San Diego St: Let’s make it simple. Air Force
ID at Fresno St: It’s another dawg-day for ID. Fresno
    UCLA at OR: DUCKS!!!

    Enjoy your Saturday!!!

    Clemson Joe:

What's your take on the Harper for Korn change by Bowden?
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Sorry for not responding sooner, I didn't see it until just now.

Anyway, Korn is the better QB and with OL woes, he's the much better choice. Harper hasn't looked good this year, and against Wake he even looked technically bad, which is something that I really haven't seen out of him. It's Korn time.

Bowden's on his way out though, which is fine with me. I am not at all convinced that Bowden is actually the one who made the decision. Either way, I'll take it.

Florida's defense is starting to breakdown in the 2nd half.

    Some interesting food for thought...

Forida's top two RB's...Rainey & Demps, and how they've feasted on inferior competition, and been bottled up by mediocre competition.

Against Hawaii and Arkansas, Rainey and Demps carried 25 times for 340 yards and five touchdowns.

Against Miami, Tennessee and Ole Mis, Rainey and Demps carried 19 times for 60 yards and no touchdowns.

There's a reckoning coming tonight, ladies & gents...

The fun begins at 7:28pm, CST...

Looks like the Texas pick on the pick'em wins this one. I am not sure that Texas will win, but it certainly doesn't look likely that Oklahoma will win by 7.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Hmm...that's a big NEVERMIND on my comment last week about Michigan helping Utah's resume.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Fortunately we have Oregon State picking up the slack.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Yeah, the rest of their schedule looks to produce quite a few more wins. Also, TCU and BYU down the road are looking pretty solid (as fully expected). Utah will have a fairly solid resume if they can win out.

...and now here begins the ever popular, and never understood by me, "overrated" chant.

Congrats to Texas, they played one hell of game and deserves the win........
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Agreed. We should be hearing from Tomcat soon. If its Texas Alabama in the national championship, I'm rooting Alabama. I do agree that the reversal of the interception was bull sh&t. But thats how it goes. Our O-line hurt us this game...

    BOOMER!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I can't wait to congratulate him either. I picked OK last night before hitting the sack. This morning, because of my committment, I didn't have time to go on line to leave a 2nd pick. I had a dream just before I woke up that TX won by 12, and scored...I think it was 38 points. Tomcat was feeding me fried crow on fan-blogs, because I didn't have faith in his team. It was quite funny, really. I just wonder if he'll believe me. Oh, my talk on Commercial Nuclear Power went over well with the American Chemical Society...despite my computer illiteracy.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I'm sure it did go well actually. I'd kinda like to hear/see/read it. Would I be bored out of my skull or is it something that a non nuclear power guy could appreciate?

As you will see by my 5,249 posts yesterday, I was stuck in front of a computer all day yesterday at work. I was doing software/firmware reloads/upgrades, and redirection and bundling of traffic on our network all day. Fortunately I got to have 2 TVs (and fanblogs!) in front of me as well. My point in telling you this is that I think I did a great job with it, but I'm pretty sure it would bore anyone here (unless you're into networking) to tears. Heck, you might already be bored to tears just from this paragraph! Anyway, if it's posted, I really wouldn't mind checking it out.

I have it on Power Pt. Send me an e-mail address (Kevin, the C-Joe monsta can have mine.) and I'll be glad to send it to you. What was kerayzee about my deal; I had to drive approximately 7 hours round trip for a half-hour presentation. At least it's tax deductible. (Oh, and my wife forgot to record any of the games for me...SUCKS!!!)
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
OU Fan I agree I didnt like that call it was B/S and there were some others too like ruffing the QB out of bounds, ruffing the punter was a classic too gave OU possesion and that knee down before the goal-line. We can agree that there were alot of mistakes by the officials in this game and nobody can really be dissappointed with the game as a whole I thought both teams played hard and the RRS game lived up to expectations.
Both OU & Texas have good teams and we all get to face Texas Tech, Ok State and KU before its all said and done. Horns got to get ready for Missu this week.
I respect both you and Ron and I'm glad that yall show some class unlike some others that I wont mention by name.

I gotz not a thing against you BUT I will not play these childish games with you. You will insult me then go back and delete it and try to get pity on here. You can even put me on "that long list" of non-response. I could careless. Texas beat Oklahoma and it's no reflection on me or anyone else on here that are Oklahoma Sooner fans. If your mood is control by Texas winning or losing...that is your thing! I had an excellent, AN EXCELLENT, week-end with my son despite Oklahoma and Dallas losing. I'm gone have a even better one next week-end regardless if Oklahoma wins or loses against Kansas OR Missouri wins or loses against Texas! If you want to say we are friends...I have no problem with that! This name calling game is getting old.

Utah has covered their line before halftime. Can they hold it?

    My vote: definitely
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Can't believe our second string gave up that TD!!

Really though it was good to finally see Utah play a whole game. With the BYU win over UCLA diminishing rapidly in ita significance Utah may be the lead BCS AQ-3 team. (Automatic Qualifier-line three)

By the way, I have never seen a game a Wyoming without the trash all over the field at the end of the game. What is up with that?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Looks like the Utes played one hell-of-a game at WY. Though many teams have, it's usually tough to win there. The way UT won this one, ya gotta believe they're for real. Well done, Ben. Well done!

    Colt McCoy for Heisman?

That is one tough kid, and he put on one helluva show.
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
True, but the only stat he has on Bradford is rushing. He should definately be invited, but if Bradford continues to put of the stats he's been doing, he should get it. I mean hell, Tebow won it and he had 3 losses.

    BOOMER!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
"True, but the only stat he has on Bradford is rushing."

Except for that thing about beating him head to head.
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
    Ehhh... I disagree.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
You disagree that he won head to head?
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Do I disagree that he won head to head?..........No, I don't. I do disagree that the head to head matchup will matter because I think Bradford will have better overall stats.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
You do realize that usually the Heisman goes to the best player on the best team, or close to it. So, because McCoy beat Bradford head to head, unless Bradford blows McCoy out of the water in stats, he won't beat him out for the Heisman.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thats Okay Joe- Heck the Horn's have players before that were more deserving anyway- give it to whoever-we know its all a joke- VY deserved it- Bush got it whatever

I will give Texas thumbs up for winning the game game. Texas beat Oklahoma at their best. Oklahoma got outcoached and outplayed. Texas players showed me class after the game by saying this is just a game! We are still friends. Very bad officiating. No excuses. Bad calls for both sides. Oklahoma fans DO NOT complain about the officials!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
What do you mean Lennie, that was the worst officiated game this year, the officials were terrible, just because there were bad calls on both sides dosen't alter the fact that the ref's were a joke........
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I have been watching this game since 1985. It was the worst officiated game in the series since I have been watching. But Oklahoma did not overcome. They did not put Texas away when they had the chance. Robert got outcoached by William.

    I will be cheering against Texas when Missouri come into Austin. I commended Colt McCoy when he said after the game "Sam Bradford and I are friends".     Texas beat Oklahoma in the Championship game? You must be coming down off your crack and whiskey high. Do you remember when Nebraska beat Texas in the championship game. Do you remember when Oklahoma beat Texas 63-14, 14-3, 65-13, 35-24, 12-0, and 28-21. You are true to form as one blogger posted. Most Texas fans posted on here with class and you get on here calling names and talkin' do-do. You are the type of fan sports don't need. I don't see Florida fans on here talking bad about Louisiana State or the fan base. 1Tomcat you claim that you are an adult but these last few post are showing be you need 20 more years to mature. You must be the one with no social life. If Oklahoma wins or lose it don't mean a thing to me. I have my 7 year old son as my social life. I have hundreds of Texas fans to back me up when I say that. I am not going to have any of them waste their time to post to prove anything to you. I am a Dallas Cowboys fan as well BUT if they lose to the Arizona Cardinals today...so what.     UofSC;
I don't know how Kentucky lost that one! We did everything possible in the first half to hand the game to them on a platter. Garcia is the one!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Garcia is definitely the one. Korn is finally our starter. Now, Korn will get the Garcia-Korn matchup that he recruited Garcia to USC for.
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
I agree. That's why I said overpowered. We had the potential to blow them out. Instead, we won ugly. I don't think we have seen the last of Smelley. Receivers dropped more than he missed in the first quarter.
  • USC1801 · 1 year ago
It will be interesting to watch Korn and Garcia the rest of the season. They both bring new dimensions to the game. Korn, with his running ability, seems to fit the Clemson scheme better than Garcia does at USC, thought I'm not complainng about Garcia. As we all know, Spurrier is not going to run the ball if he can pass it.

I wondered why they didn't use Korn earlier to jumpstart the offense. Things have gotten out of hand at Clemson, and I don't understand why. Were expectations too high?
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Why? That's simple. Tommy Bowden is not a good coach.

I don't think my expectations for 10-2 regular season and a bid in the ACC championship game were too high when you look at the level of talent that Clemson can put on the field. I just think it's the first time that everyone is aware of that talent, and Bowden has been exposed. This time, because everyone is aware, there is no excuse.
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
I think it's about time for me to go off on officiating after watching the Red River "Rivalry"

obviously the officiating, was a joke.
kirk and the other guy were laughing about it the whole game.
but that's not what im pissed about.
I AM pissed about all of these personal fouls i've seen this season. thats 15 FREAKIN YARDS.
in my opinion, if there wasn't malicious intent by an angry, tired, mindless defensive player, then there is no personal foul.
if a guy doesn't damn near get his head ripped off, it is not a 15 yard facemask.
if the QB gets driven into the turf after the play is blown dead, go ahead, throw the flag.
but you do NOT call a flag for a late hit on the sideline unless the contact starts when both feet of both players are out of bounds, AND, the hit is actually a good one.
#28 for OU got ****ed. twice. that was ridiculous. this isn't flag football, nor is it soccer. players shouldn't get rewarded for diving.
    now, on to kickers/punters.
it is NOT a 15 yard penalty to touch these players. if it were, then they shouldnt be wearing pads and a helmet. players are afraid to block punts and kicks, in fear of running into the damned kicker/punter.
its ruining special teams. unless a player's torso actually comes into contact with the kicker's/punter's torso, no flag should be thrown.

15 yards is a TON of yards to be given away on some BS "unsportsmanlike" call.
rough is the name of the game, and if you're gonna throw that flag, i better see a damn good hit in return.

    im out.

    Good rant. I agree.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Its all relative, I started joting down bad calls and after a while I gave up. Bad calls both ways and thats the way it is. Personal foul on the punt- give me a break, whats the boys suppost to do stop in mid-air geez- OU gets a TD when the man's knee was clearly down- OK
The Bad officiating was distributed equaly- sound like a OU fan they always bitch about the refs after a loss. ha ha ha- cant help it its the truth
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Agreed - questionable calls going both ways. I would have been OK with either team winning and -- from that perspective -- I really didn't think the game was terribly officiated.

Tomcat, that one was a lot of fun to watch. In my mind, McCoy should get the Heisman. There's a lot of football left to be played but after watching Chase Daniel in the 1st half against OK State and McCoy against Oklahoma, I think he deserves it. Great game, my man. You must be elated.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Tomcat, congrats to the Horns on a great win! (I guess I should have looked further as I was reading all these posts. I could have put here what I put up further above.)

I know it's going to sound crazy, but last night before I hit the sack, I left my perspective with you guys. You found my analysis interesting, agreed with parts, respectfully disagreed with others, and we went our merry way. I repeat; this is going to sound crazy, or sound like a flat out like, but I swear to you; it's true. This morning, before I got up to take off on a 3.5 hour drive to give this speech, I swear I had a dream that I had come home from my commitment to find TX had beaten OK by 12 pts, after having scored 38 in the game. I wanted to post it on fanblogs, but I just didn't have time to do it before I had to leave. Believe it or not as you see fit; congratulations again all the same!!!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I've heard the post game comments and read OU Fan & OU Ron posts. I have yet to hear Sooners staff or fans blame the officials. So 1Tomcat you told us not a thing! Texas won and OU fans and staff gave Texas credit. 1Tomcat you are showing everyone one on here how classless you really are. Comeback down to reality and stop being a JERK!
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
I didn't watch the entire game and can't comment on the entire game, but I saw both "roughing the passer penalties". Those were the worst two calls I've seen in my 30 years of watching football. No exaggeration.

  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
You must not have watched Pittsburgh last year beat West Virginia and the refs.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
There were bad calls against both squads all night in that one, but I admit, toward the end it did look as if the refs were giving WVU one more chance. Those calls were "iffy". WVU still deserved to lose that one. Pitt's defense was fabulous. Not to mention, twice (one each for Pat White & Jerrett Brown) each QB was pressured and dropped the ball before contact. You can't execute an offense playing like that.
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
no. i completely agree the bad calls went both ways.
i was ranting about personal fouls in general for every game.
and the RRR was the straw that broke the camel's back. so i went off...
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    BC:

It started immediately in the USC/ASU game also. First it was the "roughing the passer" - followed immediately by the "inadverdent facemask". Both calls were pure BS. My first thought was: "what are we playing - flag football"? How in the world are you supposed to tackle these guys. Man, they have always been hard to bring down. Of course, USC would go on to pick up some more "roughing" calls. But, when Carpenter gets completely wacked - it's all good. Bottom line is that I agree with all of your post. These rules really blow!
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
    Gawd!

GT plays their 3rd string QB for the entire game and narrowly defeats Gardner-Webb 10 to 7. GW missed a 44 yard FG that would have sent the game to overtime. I guess that puts to rest any hope the Yellow Jackets will be ranked this week.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I didn't watch the game, and I really don't know what happened. Please fill me in. What happened to the 1st and 2nd stringers? Are they going to play next week? Do you think that they were looking ahead to Clemson (certainly they must've been)?
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I don't know exactly what happened as I've been in a meeting all day in Dallas with my laptop in front of me, getting stats off the web. Josh Nesbitt (QB #1) was injured a couple weeks ago (hamstring) and Jaybo Shaw (QB #2, who led the team to the last two victories) got a minor concussion against Duke last week, though he finished the game. I'm guessing one or both of them will be available for CU.

I also suspect you are correct that: they were looking ahead to next week. Judging by the stats, the defense also played pretty badly this week and you can't blame that on the third-string QB (can you?)..

Next week will be interesting. I have no idea what to expect from GT against CU.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
...and I have no idea what to expect from CU against GT. Bowden (or someone else, as I suspect) made the decision to go with Korn instead of Harper. I agree with the call, I just didn't expect to see changes made, since Bowden never makes changes. Now I really don't know what the CU offense will look like. However, since it's Georgia Tech @ Clemson, I'm sure it'll be another classic.

I think we will have walk ons playing on the O line before the season is over. Looks like we lost another lineman, OT Vince Vance, in the win against TN. It is bad enough who we have left to play. We better figure out how to score inside the 20 or we could lose about 3 more. 4 field goals is just crazy as badly as we were whipping these guys on the line of scrimmage. Anyway, glad to have to win.
Sorry for all you OU guys. Tomcat should be strutting his stuff wherever he is.

    GO DAWGS

I was just watching the highlights of the UGA/UT game, and I saw Mohamed Massaquoi catch a TD pass. Is it just me or does it seem like that guy has been playing for Georgia for like 7 years?
  • GA_Boy · 1 year ago
    Clemson Joe
That's what happens when you stay all 4 years. He has been on the verge of his "breakout season" since he got here but it has never really materailized. Don't get me wrong, I love MoMass, the kid can play but he just never breaks through. I thought he played pretty well tonight after he got his clock rung. Those hillbilly's were laying the wood today. You should see the lick their LB Berry laid on Knowshon. I thought he would have a concussion for sure. Maybe he does, who knows with the injuries we have had.
That GT performace agains GW today must make you feel a little bad about next week's game. All you need is for Tommy to get a few wins. I know how badly you want him gone.

    GO DAWGS!!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Well, it might mean that GT will step it up and play hard again next week. I doubt that Tech is going to need much help getting motivated for Clemson.

It's been a rough year for me. I of course want to see Clemson do well and I want the best for our players, but I certainly want this misery of the Bowden experiment to come to an end. Hopefully the end is nigh. On the other hand, this failure of a season has caused me to be able to watch other games more objectively and make picks and bets accordingly, and this season is going quite swimmingly for me not only in the fanblogs pick'em but also in the betting arenas as well. At least some good has come from it.

5 unbeatens went down in week 7. Here's what's on the slate for the 10 unbeatens in week 8.
    Boise State vs. Hawaii
    BYU @ TCU
    Alabama vs Ole Miss
    Texas vs. Missouri
    Texas Tech @ Texas A&M
    Utah vs. Colorado State
    Penn State vs. Michigan
    Tulsa vs UTEP
    Oklahoma State vs. Baylor
    Ball State - BYE

I only see 4 semi dangerous games here. We could feasibly roll into week 9 with 10 unbeatens. That seems like a lot this late in the season.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
It is a little higher than usual.

Usually only one or two teams from outside the big 6 are undefeated. This year their are 5. Take away three of those and it would look much more normal.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Yeah, it's pretty rare to have a MAC team in the mix this late. It seems like there is usually one MWC and one WAC team hanging around this time of the year though. So that's appropriate, but not usually 2 from either one. There are a couple of good ones in week 9 featuring the unbeatens though.

    Penn State @ Ohio State
    Texas Tech @ Kansas
    Texas @ Oklahoma State

I have a new rule to hate. I'm already sick of the new clock rules (anybody else?), tired of quarterbacks intentionally dipping their heads to get the helmet-to-helmet personal fouls called, and now, I have to deal with this...

With about one minute left in the second quarter, UF kicks off to LSU. The return guy (Holiday?) catches the ball in-bounds and his first step is out-of-bounds at the 13 yard line. I'm thinking great! Ball down at the 13, right? RIGHT??!! NOOOOO, SORRY! This is treated the same as a kick going out-of-bounds and the ball is placed at the 40 yard line. Adding insult to injury, LSU drives the shortened field and scores a touchdown with 5 seconds remaining in the half.

That has got to be the stupidest rule I've ever heard of in all my years of playing and watching football.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
That rule is downright pathetic and illogical. I'm with you. A lot of rules have bothered me. The new clock rules need to be tweaked. It's virtually impossible for a team to make a comeback at the end of a game anymore. The rules protecting the QBs have good intentions but have been FAR overplayed and overused.

Some of it is starting to look like an Italian soccer match at this point...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
If the player has a foot out of bounds, they are out of bounds. If they catch the ball out of bounds the kick is out of bounds. Kicking the ball out of bounds on a kickoff is a penalty.

I have seen in the NFL players standing intentionally with one foot out of bounds to exploit this rule.

With a kick that close to the sidelines it is bad coaching that he tried to catch it inbounds that close to the sidelines.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
If the player has a foot out of bounds, they are out of bounds. If they catch the ball out of bounds the kick is out of bounds.

Neither of these scenarios is what occured. The receiver caught the ball in-bounds and his next step was out-of-bounds. Why should a kick-off have this special dispensation that is not afforded to any other play in the game (i.e. you step out-of-bounds and the ball is down right there)?
  • Mr2Bits · 1 year ago
I was going ape Shi* when I saw this, an absolute joke. Throw in 2 phantom pass interference calls and it looked like Lesticles was hooking the refs up.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I had no idea what your handle meant so I got curious and looked it up. I had no idea about that guy, and a Citadel alum to boot! He seems like a good time. That's a great tradition.

Thanks, most people don't unless you've been to the Swamp. This will be his last year so he's said.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
That's a bummer. Do you think UF will have auditions for a new Mr. 2-Bits?
  • Mr2Bits · 1 year ago
I would say yes but it will be like the sequels to Rocky, prob not good.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I think it was a wrong call, but was VERY close to being right. In the end it does not matter as Florida was not critically wonded by the potetially bad call.

This is why I thought the call was wrong: He landed after the ball with one foot in bounds and one foot out of bounds. Since his first foot landed inbounds it should have been a catch, just like a reception. If the out of bounds foot landed first it is the correct call.

Urban Meyer is going to practice this and expect him to exploit this rule in the near future. Picture a kick off near the side lines and the player stepping out of bounds and reaching in to catch the ball, or catching it in the air with a running start and his momentum carrying him out of bounds.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Howzabout this rule? A QB can throw the ball away, IF he's outside the tackles, BUT the ball has to go past the line of scrimmage. So, how many times have we seen QB's standing in the pocket within 5-20 from the Goal-Line, and just throw it through the up-rights, yet get no flag?

Like yourself, I can't stand these new clock rules.
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
I see some teams that I feel are relatively untested, today, or historically.
    #1 Ball St.
    #2 Tulsa
    #3 Utah
    #4 BYU

I won't include Boise, though I could. It seems to me they deserve a shot.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Boise State EASILY is less tested than BYU or Utah.

These teams are in contention for a BCS Bowl but only two of these five teams have any chance at the national title, those are BYU and Utah. Their test will be the ability to not let the attention go to their head and each other.
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
Well Ben, Byu has now not only been tested, but toasted, by Tcu. How does Boise look to you now?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Boise certainly looks better than BYU, and will be ranked higher now that BYU will drop to the bottom of the top 25, to maybe #22-23. TCU should jump up to near 20 to 18.

  • Zac · 1 year ago
Fan, Lennie, Ron, & all U Boomer Mates, the season's not over. I don't envy hosting KS next week after such a tough loss, and I certainly don't envy your visit to Stillwater; not after OK St won in Columbia by holding Daniels & Co. to 23 pts. (I did pick MO, because the game was in Columbia; I also said, if OK St could keep it close...) However, TX has a tougher row to hoe from here on out. They get MO, OK St, TX TEch, & KS over the next 4 weeks. Not exactly enviable. The Big-12 is tough this year. I know it's a repeat, but lots can happen over the next 6 weeks. Then again, if the horns win out, they belong in the NC game. In that, you'd have to agree.
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
Shit Fire Zac! I'll trade you those future opponents, for these:

    10/18/08 vs. LSU # Columbia, S.C. TBA
    11/01/08 vs. Tennessee # Columbia, S.C. TBA
    11/08/08 vs. Arkansas # Columbia, S.C. TBA
11/15/08 at Florida # Gainesville, Fla. TBA
11/29/08 at Clemson Clemson, S.C. TBA

Granted, Clemson is all cupcaky so far this year. But they normally whip our butts. They have a lot of talent. They will self motivate for us. Coaching, good or bad, will not be necessary for them, that game.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Well, ya got me there. LSU will be angryer than a nest of White-Faced Wasps the rest of the way. TN has only won 2, but ya can't count em out. AR, you guys should take that one. FL...well, they did lose to Ole Miss. Clemson, I think your guys are even up. That's just a tough place to play. Nope, don't envy your Cocks either.

    (I haven't heard "$hit fire" since college.)

[sitting down, looking to ensure his utensils & his napkin are to be found at the table]

Rambling Gator...Gatorhippy...Where the hell is my crow, dammit? It's late, I'm just in to the house, and I'm hungry, dammit!

I have to say that the game was the most unexpected, surprising, and shocking result I've witnessed out of this football team in many a moon.

It's the first time I've ever seen a Les Miles football team not show up to play.

Our offensive & defensive lines were blown off the ball, all night long. I'm going to say that again, because it does my soul good to be hurt by the reality of it...

Our offensive and defensive lines were blown off the ball, all night long.

Our co-coordinators have out-thought themselves. We have a young secondary playing a more complicated coverage scheme, and it looks BAD...

We continue to trot Danny McCray out (#44, who was on the field in coverage in the slot on the 70 yard TD pass that he tipped on 3rd & 12 to start the game off; and again on the Tebow red-zone TD pass in the 1st half) to try to cover slot receivers in the spread offense.

The mark of a good coach, if you ask me, is always that they will adjust their system to their personnel. Meld their philosophy to their talent.

With Mallory & Peveto as our Co-DC's, we continue to trot the same kid out there and attempt to play the same defense that they envision we have the personnel for. When he is continually-not just picked on, but-scored upon, they continue to trot him out there.

The kid's had no less than 3 touchdowns scored by teams directly going after him since the Arkansas game last year. We've had at least 5 plays where a team converted a 3rd or 4th down on a scoring drive, or out-and-out scored touchdowns by going after him.

At some point, these coordinators need to realize that if the defense they want to run is asking this of McCray, THEN THEY CANNOT RUN THIS DEFENSE SUCCESSFULLY.

I do not see them changing their scheme. I see no changes being made at halftime. The adjustments were ridiculous...

Our offense puts 14 up in two straight possessions, and the response from the defense was something akin to "Get out there and leak like a sieve!"

    Truly disheartening...

Les Miles had his own players on defense expressing frustration with the coaching staff over the myriad substitutions they were trotting out onto the field over and over again late after they had to blow a timeout after not getting the right personnel package onto the field...

Having said that, our rushing attack was humbled, our staff was completely out-coached, and our players were not up for this game, at all...

The jaw-jacking that this defense was doing after it was obviously getting trounced was embarrassing. Defensive Tackle Drake Nevis getting pumped up about stopping someone for no gain? Check the scoreboard, Drake...When you've given up 44 points to that point, how about just drinking a nice big warm glass of SHUT THE FACK UP!?

Tyson Jackson getting juiced up and woofing at Tebow after a sack...WHEN YOU'RE DOWN 30 POINTS? From a senior...That's troublesome...

Very disturbing performances from the hallmarks of our teams in the trenches on both sides...and very disturbing that after two weeks off to prepare, this is how our team responded, and this is the "Gameplan" this staff threw together on defense....

    Disturbing, indeed...

Damn it, TE! By acting gracious and analytical, you're making it really hard to gloat!
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Just the facts today...After the sheer scope and magnitude of the asskicking we received yesterday at your hands, there's no room for hyperbole or verbose and bellicose responses.

I can tell you that this experience was very valuable for the skill position players on offense. It was good for our young players on both sides of the ball. This is a character building opportunity...and it will serve us well down the road...

    TE:

Sounds like the same problem that most unbeaten, and defending NC's go thru, and that's about it. Florida finally got those two RB,s more involved. The game was on the road, at the swamp, against a very good team. Just about the same scenario's as what has happened for Georgia and USC. Very hyped up teams that have lost shortly afterword. The press in this country actually contribute's to the downfall of alot of these teams. These young men, more often than not, get completely full of themselves. I can't really understand the phenomenum, as you well know, I'm about one of the most humble people around. This is probably the best thing that could happen for your team - and they will bounce back. It's just too bad that they did lose by so much. This now does not bode well for Alabama. We are seeing a trend this year on this regard.
  • TigerHater · 1 year ago
Take heart. LSU can still lose 1 more game and back into another national championship. Of course they first have to beat South Carolina. No easy task for a very average team like LSU.
