hey ben. how many points do you add for missing weeks?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey Ben do I get any for IKE week?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
It depends on the week. I drop the bottom 20, usually 0's, and whatever is the lowest is what I use for that week.

    The totals so far are:
    Week 1: 16
    Week 2: 11
    Week 3: 7
    Week 4: 9
    Week 5: 3
    Week 6: 7
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
So, if you hadn't picked anything at all, you'd have a 53, which is just 10 points shy of 7th place.

So why exactly are you adding points?
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
well thats just great. i missed the worst week possible.
good job on running this thing though. despite all of the criticism you may get from some (clemson joe) i understand where youre coming from.
    were you a statistics major?
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Why have a deadline if there isn't a penalty for missing it?

You standardize a system to make it fair.

If you can be gifted points for missing a week, is that valid for 2 or 3 weeks or just 1?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Yahoo makes the deadline, not me...

I said I eliminate the lowest 20 each week, mostly these are 0's. The pack is now at 57.

I do look at the possibility of two missing days, but no one with two missing days is even close to making the top 10.

Also I denote with an ** who has befitted from this, so those who wish can not count them.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Okay Ben guess I'm kinda slow took me a while to figure this out, I gotta 49 missed week # 3 so here I'm 56 if you add 7 for the week I missed
After The Cowboys beat the Tigers and the Hogs beat the spread guess I'll jump up a little. I find it real difficult to really know anything about the MAC- Ball St for example & their opponents- I thought West Kent was Sunbelt- I really no nothing of these teams-Where's Tulsa and why would TCU fall so low did I miss something- dang- thanks Ben

BTW Geaux Tigers - doing purty good for a guy that missed a week
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Western Kentucky will be a full member in the Sun Belt next season. They're in that transition period right now since they just moved up to D-1A. In case you care, South Alabama will be fielding a football team next year in hopes of moving up to D1-A by 2013 and then will be added to the Sun Belt for football then. So, all of those South Alabama fans out there can be excited about that.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    Thanks for the info Joe
Its really hard for me to pick on a game when I know nothing about the team or its competition. I find it hard to believe that Ball jumped some other really good teams IMHO and looking at their schedule they face like nobody- beats the heck outa me? Tulsa is #1 in the country in total offense, and they are not ranked and other one loss teams that lost to #1 and are not ranked- beats the heck outa me.
For example BYU beats Wash by 1 point- 1 friggin point and they are ranked #9- okay OU destroyed Wash
Thanks for the Info man- whats W Kent record- who have they played? I still cant believe that Ball is ranked and others are not like FSU, TCU etc etc
I dont know bout S Alabama, but I've been to North Alababma- shout out to my friends in Florence- Go Lions
BTW The Liquor is high up there- everybody told me to buy it in Mississippi- prices similar to Texas - Did I listen no- prices of boose double than the Tex price- kinda sucked because somebody robbed my jug in Greenvillie Miss, I got some in Florence Al. on my way to Murphsburo Tenn. Thx Cat. All it takes for that to change is for me to get the bright idea that I should lay a little smack on the picks. That would certainly be a guarenteed loss.

I gotta admit though, it still feels like I stood in the food stamp line when looking at my total on here because of the added points for the missed week. But watcha gonna do?

Martine Overly/Erra/IsaFaggita gives us a 13 point swing in that game...

We would've been up 10-0 in the 1st on that FG but instead, we're tied 7-7, and then we gaffe away the Game Winner in the 4th on a shank...

13 points by the kicker alone...JHC...

Much of this falls on Peyton
    - Automatica Sporadica is on strike three, so he needs to be tossed under the bus right now.
    - wtf is Reggie "Not #42, It's 4-foot-2" still doing on the team, making Kaesviharn commit DPI because his man was WFO? Does the bus not hit him cuz he's so freekin' short?
    - Deuce had what, 6 carries? He oughtta be *DRIVING* the bus.

Dude was money when he was in Tampa--in fact, he was beloved.

For him to have been traded by Tampa...speaks volumes.

Best I can figure, is he just forgot how to kick...

...either that, or his deal with the devil came due.

I was franky surprised to see that he was even still playing in the NFL; thought he'd figured it out already...or at least I figured the rest of the league would have!

It's my 13 wedding anniversary today so I took the misses out for a bite and DVR'ed the game. Turned it on when we got home and after we finished, uh, talking....I started watching and I only got to halftime. I was ready to smash my head into the bricks because of them. I'm the same as you when it comes to writing them off and I just did it again. I could freakin eat nails when I watch them "F" up every damn game...stupid azz mistakes.

Injuries are really killing them but dumb-azz false starts, holding calls, the non-calls (Bush nearly getting his helmet ripped off by a face mask), blocked field goal returned for a TD??? You gotta be f-ing kidding me, right?

I stopped it at half time and switched over to ESPN for the final and saw they lost 30-27. Then I deleted what was left on the DVR. After several deep, cleansing breaths, I feel a little better..but not much. Sorry about the rant. I had to get it out or I was gonna explode.

Same-Here except used to be the cowgirls. A guy was at a game in Dallas with a little dog, the Cowboys would drive the ball to the red zone, couldnt get it in so they settled for a feild goal, the little dog did a backwards flip. Later on the same thing happened, they got a feild goal and the little dog did a backwards flip, this continued throughout the game. The guy sittin next to them asked, man I've been watching and its amazing that he does a backwards flip after every feild goal. What does he do when they score a touchdown? I dunno, only had him three seasons

I feel for a brother in pain. There is hope. I had it even worse than you: I was a Falcons fan--you know, the team that has never posted back-to-back winning seasons? I was finally able to kick it after Vick hit rock bottom. Alright, I feel some kinda "intervention" is required here. You seem to be in a "total relapse cycle". You are now begining to imagine that you can, one more time, capture that feeling of ectasy when you 1st became addicted. Let me remind you of the definition of insanity: CONTINUING TO DO THE SAME OLD THING - EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS.

I will now appoint myself as your "temporary sponsor". I expect for you to do these things: 1.) stay away from any conversation with "truckdriver", as he being a Chiefs fan, is surely going to cause you to get depressed - and therefore relapse. 2.) each morning, 1st thing, pray that you will somehow be released from the bondage of being a Falcon fan. 3.) Start to try and invision a new life for yourself. Maybe you could become a Dolphin fan. Parcell's is there and that team is looking pretty good.

Oh, and don't forget to check in everyday and let us all know how your doing. It's very important to maintain a bond with your fellows.

    BD:

Big Claude Humphrey. Wasn't that guy about 6'8 or something like that? I think that it was Too Tall Jones that finally beat that guys height. He was the biggest guy at the time - although Bubba Smith was right on his cleat strings.
  • blackdawg · 1 year ago
Humphrey, Too Tall, and Bubba Smith left to much of an impression on this kid to question there size or their ability. Too Tall probably cost the Falcons a playoff and a Super Bowl in 81 when he jump into the nuetral zone, on 3rd and one (before the snap, you could then) and then fell into the hole created for William Andrews, much to the suprise of Lynn Cain, (one of your guy's I believe). Cain(USC) and Andrews(AUB) we loved them here in GA.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago

I lived in Germany during 1976 when I discovered the NFL at the tender age of 8. And since I was born in Texas, I was an immediate Cowboys fan. I didn't know the Falcons existed until we moved back in 1977.

My second favorite team was the Vikings, because my father was a fan of Tark, having played him in high school when my father was a sophomore and Tark was a senior at Clark Central over in Athens. He was rather good at that level, my father recalled...

Thinking back now, it was really strange discovering professional sports while we lived overseas. We didn't get ANY broadcasts over there. All we had was what was in the Stars and Stripes. I was a huge Big Red Machine fan and knew who all the players were, but NEVER saw a game...

Later that year, I decided to be a Boston Bruins fan because I liked the name, even know I had no idea what hockey was or how it was played. I would check the papers every day to look at their record and see if they had won.

It beat the hell out of converting to a soccer fan while I was over there though...
  • blackdawg · 1 year ago
I grew up a Falcon/Viking and Braves fan. Fran was my hero growing up, a former UGA guy. I pulled for the Vikings in three Super Bowls, Mia, Pit, Oak. Fran and the guys could never pull it out. I still say that Preston Pearson interfered with Nate Wright in the playoff game with the Cowboys, (78 or 79 don't remember which year). The Reds were like beyond human to me, growing up. My little League coach, 3 straight years, took us to the see the Reds and the Braves. We would get as close to the field as we could a watch, Morgan, Rose, Perez, Concepcion, Bench take batting practice, for a kid it was unbelievable. I never thought I would ever get into soccer but my 6 year old daughter loves it and I'm now trying to learn the tricks, I might need CJ's help with that.

    Hey Ron,
give me your perspective of the Mizzou / Ok St game. I don't / can't watch much B12 games but I'm having trouble making a pick in this one. I do know that OK St is undefeated, has a dynamic offense and is getting 14. But I also know that Mizzou has an even better offense and is averaging something like 52 pts per game. Additionally, Mizzou is 5-1 vs the spread in the last 6 against OKST......but......the visiting team has won the last 3 meetings between these two.

I initially picked Mizzou and gave up the 14 but after finding that last nugget of info, I'm second guessing the pick. And IMO, OKST is better this year than they've been in the past 3 yrs.

I may have to go back and switch..........damn...............I just don't know. What I do know is, in the SEC, if someone is laying 14pts, I always take the points because it's a conference game. Does the B12 hold true to this also?

Who Knows I did the same as Ron took OK st, they also run up scores vs Neb- really a tossup, the points helped me choose, but dont take my advice-heck look at my standings LOL
The B-12 is a wild scary place were just about anything can happen and everybody beats every body, without going into a vicory chain type of thing, its wide open and every team matches up differently against each other.
    Good Luck
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
GT, I usually pick wrong if I think about it too long......I took Okla State and the points, I guess they could loose by 40, but I keep thinking about the Illinois game, I'm probably wrong, but I don't look to get too many right this week anyway......OSU fo me.....
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
Thx for the input fellas. OKST has nearly as good an offense and Mizzou's defense is said to be not all that great. I think this one is a coin flip with the points though so here we go:

    <grabbed a quarter>
<heads for Mizzou, tails for OKST>
    <flipping>
    <dropped.....gotta re-flip>
<flipping.....concentrating on looking the quarter into the hand>
    <caught it and covered>
It's tails. Going change the pick to OKST.

The Tigers will definitely give it a shot in da Swamp but, as we all know, it won't be easy. I read an article yesterday that said, starting Monday (that just passed) the coaching staff has been playing replays of all the 4th down conversions from last years match-up in BR. Also included were all of LSU's scores and the fake field goal attempt that was successful. A bit of bulletinboard material, if you will. I'm sure those guys will be up for the game though, regardless of last years outcome.

After listening to the Les Miles show this afternoon, he says he thinks they've found something they can exploit in Florida's kicking game coverage also. Les says he expects the game to come down to the fourth quarter though and expressed his appreciation for Florida's talent.

Concerning Au's loss to Vandy, I honestly wanted Tubbie's boys to win for the sole reason of keeping LSU's SOS as high as possible. Who knows what'll happen now though, as I've seen the thread about you guys OC possibly getting the boot. I'll have to go check that out afterwards.
