Could be worse. At least she didn't have an Adam's apple.
If your Daddy was the Devil- and your Mama was a witch- they'd be proud of you- cause your a crazy bitch. I heard that song at Akie Blue's in Bandera Texas.
Or the Willie song went to bed at 2 witha 10 and woke up at 10 witha 2.
I'm SALTY!!! Now, I'll take a step back. ECU played one hell of game. They played it just about text-book, with regards to controlling the clock, keeping WVU & Pat White off the field, not to mention their defense looked great.
How could this happen against the 8th ranked team in the country? Well, for starters, much as I hate to say it, perhaps WVU isn't as good as advertised. Perhaps, ECU is actually that good, at least at home; we haven't seen them on the road this year; some teams for some reason aren't as good on the road.
Seriously, though, Pinckney & company played a great game. Were there bad calls? Yes. Were there questionable calls? Yes. Were there no calls? Yes. Would it have mattered in the long run? Not on your life. ECU would still have won this game; the score might have been a little closer; maybe 13 pts instead of 21. Who cares? It's still a great win for ECU against arguably a decent football team.
Why do I continue to say WVU is decent? OK, I knew teams would have success against WVU's defense. How much success was the question. And, given what I saw, including a lot of LB play, over-running the play in progress, there's still hope. As expected, some of the new guys in the 2ndary made some mistakes, as did one of the more veteran players. These are things which can be corrected, and WVU has an extra week before traveling to CO.
WVU still has an offense which returned 9 starters. The starting offensive linemen are 3, 4, & 5 year letterman, and they're deep at each position. That they didn't at all distinguish themselves Saturday still burns me; I can only hope they had a bad day. (It seems as though they're good for 2 of those in a season.) The offense still returns Pat White & Noel Devine, two of the speediest players in all of college football. Yes, the coaching staff is new, but the concept of play remained the same; not to mention the pundits declared WVU to have one of the best coaching staffs around, save for the question mark at HC. That said, where were the new wrinkles to the offense? Where were the passes off play-action fakes? Where were all those triple read-option plays, which put WVU on the map to begin with? Where were the toss sweeps, or fake-reverses, and reverses? Where were Alric Arnett, Will Johnson, and Jock Sanders, who were the recipients of most of Pat White's passing attention last week? Most of all, where was the veteran blocking?
Disappointed doesn't begin to scratch the surface of what I'm feeling right now. I mean, 3 seasons ago, OSU replaced 7 starters on their defense, went into Austin, TX, and won. Saturday, WVU went into Charlotte, NC, with a veteran offense and predominantly new defense and lost by 3 TD's. They played ECU, not TX. A few months back, in one of Kev's threads, I expressed fear that WVU could become this year's Louisville. What with trips to CO, Pitt, & UConn, not to mention hosting Auburn, Cinci, & S FL, we may be seeing my fears come to life. If things don't get a lot better from here, my fears will come to life.
Which brings me back to what I've said before. If the Big East doesn't offer ECU an invite, there's something rotten in Denmark.
I believe the x-factor in WVU's success the past three seasons has been Schmitt...
He made White and Slaton look good with his blocking and his ability to collapse the defense on the full back in the triple option which opened up the perimeter for White and Slaton...
And if the defense didn't collapse on him, Owen made them pay as he was a home threat...
Again JMHO but it certainly seems like they're missing that quality at FB badly...
Only around 380 yards of offense--about 250 through the air, which is good, but we needed to have much more on the ground. Defense looked solid--they could have pitched another shutout had the offense not turned the ball over deep in our territory and USM hadn't been especially adroit at converting 4th and 10 and 4th and 16...
I checked the picks--only 12 of 20. It was definitely a little tougher this week...
2-0, opponent w/l: 2-2, both loses to us and both wins over (granted bottom of) FBS teams.
1-0 conference.
I thought it was a good weekend.
i had a rough week this week.
10/20
my two worst picks:
WVU, and Ohio St.
can you say OV-VER RA-TED!!!
Nutt didnt win, but They beat the spread
I lost on UCG thought they coulda scored more, same with the Cinn vs OU game.
Congrats to Vanderbilt over USC and Rice over Memphis
The USF vs UCF was really a tossup, and nobody including myself a few years ago woulda given this game much consideration and now its bigger than UF vs UCG
i thought that theyd win, but at least they beat the spread.
you can look at everyone's picks on yahoo by the way.
then come on here and talk smack haha.
Noel Devine is one of my favorite players, but nobody can argue that WVU was vastly over-rated.
I think Alabama is ranked right on the money.
after week one i thought we were a shoo-in to win the west, but after week two i have a different outlook:
1. LSU
T2. Alabama
T2. Auburn
4. Ole Miss
5. Mississippi State
6. Arkansas
although, i haven't changed the bottom 3 since preseason.
What happened to these so-called favorites-teams who won but couldnt cover the spread
I lost with
BYU, Auburn, Ohio St and Utah
When it comes to picking winners- no problem, but trying to pick underdogs to at least loose by less than the spread-I got killed again
Miami Hurricanes didnt see the game I was watching the USF vs UCF
KU vs La Tech- these the same bulldogs that beat Croom's Bulldogs-they got Manginoed
Cinn Bearcats pride of the Big East first half purty good what happened, did yall lay down
Az St vs Stanford These guys are up & down- hot & cold- thought Stanford woulda done better
Ya I can pick winners purty good but the spread is killin me BTW
Congrats to the Arkansas Razorbacks yall beat a good team
I'm going to borrow that one, if you don't mind. It may take a while to find a good place to insert it, but I will...
Ark @ Texas ---------- UT

E Car @ Tulane---------E Car
West Vir @ Colo--------Colo
KU @ USF--------------KU
New Mex @ Tulsa-----Tulsa
SMU @ Texas Tech--------are you kidding !!
I'm tied at 15th. It could be worse though--I could be Zac!!!!
At least I'm ahead of the War Eagle Birmingham guy. As president of the franchising system, I have to set a solid example.
In case anyone's interested, we still have War Eagle El Paso and War Eagle Miami/Dade available...
Didn't get to watch the game so I don't know what the deal was. We're still electrically challenged...lol. At least they won. Good for the SEC. Ole Piss covered for me though. The one that hurt the most was Central Florica. I picked 'em then went back and changed it to South Florida....like a dumb azz.
Geaux Tigers
Geaux SEC
Evidently, USM has quite the high powered offense, so our defense did quite a job...
