Fanblogs.com: Fans pelt Notre Dame players with snowballs

  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
"the Notre Dame guys probably couldn't catch 'em, anyway." LOL
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I'm surprised Charlie didn't get pounded, just throw in his general direction, you're bound to get a piece of him.....
  • Zac · 1 year ago
"Pounded?" as in ground round? You didn't expect em to throw cheeseburgers at him, did ya?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Not at all Zac, if they did, they would probably never hit the ground....
  • BigWarEagle · 1 year ago
Charlie Weis should have been an easy target....as wide as a barn and a bad wheel so he can't dodge 'em.

A world without Notre Dame in the BCS is a world I love living in.
  • USC1801 · 1 year ago
Isn't that the truth, BWE! It's like Weis and NDame were made for each other !! LOL! I'm loving Syracuse right now. Let the Gator Bowl try NDame on for size now.
  • FSU_fan · 1 year ago
Yeah I seriously doubt thier gator bowl chances but the payout for the sun is profitable and they will take notre dame even if the players and cheerleaders switched places!
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
Sadly so....the sun bowl chairman has already stated they would take ND even if they lost both their last two games.
  • FSU_fan · 1 year ago
HA, Ron beat you to that punch!
  • Remember 1988? · 1 year ago
Let's face it... Charlie Weis is one big fraud. He was known as an offensive genius at New England. It's easy to be a genius when you have stolen the signals and you know what defense they are running. Furthermore, he had a great QB to execute the play he called in repsonse to the defensive signals. ND shouldn't have to pay him due to fraud.
  • USC1801 · 1 year ago
LOL! Great line at the end!

But I agree with you, I can't condone stupidity and irresponsible behaviour on the part of the fans. If they don't like the way NDame is playing, then I say let them get on a message board somewhere and vent their frustrations. Then, Weis, too, can utter the memorable line, "Get a life."
  • Mr2Bits · 1 year ago
    Were the snow balls yellow?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
"Watch out where the Huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow." (Shades of Frank Zappa.)
  • ND Fan · 1 year ago
Weis needs to go NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • SeriousSchoolFootball · 1 year ago
ND losing to the last place Big East team. They are terrible. Perhaps they could join the Big East for football as well as the other sports - then Syracuse wouldn't have to be the doormat of the Big East!

If Notre Dame loses to usc they cant go bowling unless there are no more 7-5 teams ahead of them.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
Notre Dame needs to wait til after the USC game to announce the firing...but need to start the search now!....Who do they go after? No 1 year wonders like...Brian Kelly at Cincinatti or the guy at Ball State...they need to go after these two people....Brett Venables the DC at Oklahoma...or Lane Kiffin the former OC at USC....both young and great recruiters that could get the job done! Stop fooling yourself with so called "proven" coaches...you need to go after a coordinator from a TOP 5 program! It is a disgrace what has happend to ND...the only player Chuck has a relationship with is his monkey boy Jimmy....You need someone who can relate to all players and get them excited to play each Saturday...not a guy who has empty promises and a full stomach!

I can guarantee that going to the Sun Bowl will be the only fun part about this dismal season. El Paso crowd always put up a great bowl game. Yeah, it's not a BCS bowl game, but it's a great venue with lots of tradition. I can't think of a better place for ND to seek some redemption. For one, I'll be in the stands with my brothers, as always.

Well....now I can see why Urban Meyer would want to leave the empire he's laid so much foundation towards building in warm, sunny, Gainesville Florida, for a Philadelphiaesque-fandom that pelts its own with snowballs. Makes perfect sense...

Look, I understand ND Fans' frustration--but pelting your own players? Your own class-mates?? Peers??? This is more disgraceful and more shameful than anything that's happened on the field over the last 2 years.

I have posted before about how disgusted I was with AU for pelting OUR players with bottles after a heartbreaking loss in Auburn, in the late '80's; WEA posted about his disgust with Gators pelting AU players with plastic cups (in retaliation) the following year. Both of those cases involved fans pelting the OTHER TEAM! (I still think glass bottles was out of control for safety reasons, but at least it was aimed at the "bad guy"--from their perspective, anyway).

    Your own players? Friends?? Class-mates???

I've gone to bat for Notre Dame many times in the past on this blog. Not this time. ND is on it's own with this one.....and no, it has nothing to do with the other thread about Meyer to ND. I would still have had respect for ND if that happend; still appreciated what ND means to cfb....but this little episode ranks right down there with Rutgers serenading the Midshipmen last year...

Good luck with recruiting, ND. I don't suppose this incident will get much play on the recruiting trail....nah..not much play at all.....

No, TG, it wasn't disgust, it was amazement. I actually thought it was cool that we were being bombarded by thousands of cups. This 18 year old had never seen anything like that. It was the 1986 game in Gainesville. It wasn't retaliatory, though. You guys had won in Auburn in '85.

I think there were reports of isolated bottle throwing at Auburn in '87 or '89 though.

    Philadelphiaesque fans. Classic!!!

Well, go to a game in southbend and and go to one in the swamp and you will see who has better more polite and more forgiving fans. Imagine how long it would take for riots to erupt and hog town to burn to the ground were florida to lose to syracuse.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
First off: your comment is pretty damn funny, considering how FSU Fan actually went to South Bend, and notoriously started riots, fires, and general destruction....after a loss ('93).

Second: I've been to Tally' and Miami; I don't need to fly to South Bend to Know what fan rudeness is all about.

Third: you seem to have missed the key point here--their OWN players. Notre Dame students pelted NOTRE DAME PLAYERS with snow balls.

Now, in direct answer to your question: "...Imagine how long it would take for riots to erupt and hog town to burn to the ground were florida to lose to syracuse..."

We lost to an abysmal Mississippi State in '04. I don't remember anthing burning to the ground, riots, or anything of the sort (though our AD did announce the next day, that the coach would not be coming back the following year).

Imagine had it happened in Morgantown. Sears & every other furnature retailer would have been salivating given the couches which would need to be replaced.
  • gosu27 · 1 year ago
There's corruption in South Bend that Big Charlie can't fix. It's time for a new coach.(Urban Meyer, Chris Peterson, etc.)

Did anyone happen to see the effort by ND player #8 on the last two (especially the first of the last two) extra points by Syracuse? I couldn't believe my Irish eyes!!! Let me try to describe this. First my vantage point was in section 5, row 52, right at the flag pole (north end zone, east corner). This player was the outside most player on the line. He was kneeling on one knee waiting for Syracuse to break the huddle - no problem. Syracuse broke the huddle, came to the line and the linemen got in their three point stance and this #8 was STILL on one knee. As the ball was snapped he rocked into his three point stance, took a couple -that's two- lackadaisical steps (no firing out here) when the ball was snapped, turned his dead to watch the ball go through the uprights and then jogged off the field. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. And he did this not once but twice. If anyone has a chance to watch a replay of this game, check this out. For a true, blue & gold fan this was down right gut wrenching. It al goes back to coaching, coaching, coaching. PERIOD. If anyone knows how to contact Charlie or any of his staff, please let me know. I'd like to bring this to his attention. Personally, I don't care what your record is, what the score is or what problem you may have, this player's actions were unacceptable.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

What about Maurice Crum? Mike Anello? The rest of the seniors (on Senior Day, no less)? Golden Tate? That Brendon or Brandon kid (#22, I think it is)? Did those guys deserve to be peppered with snowballs by....THEIR OWN?

    ...their FELLOW students/classmates/schoolmates?

CW is a horrible coach, of that, there is little debate. Hang him in effigy...go nuts on the message boards....fly a plane advocating his immediate termination...start a website called "firecharlieweis.com"....write your AD...write the school president....write the Bishop...write the Pope...write your congressman...

...but turning on the PLAYERS...throwing snowballs at them...."thanks for your 4 years of hard work, thanks for the memories...thanks for NUTHIN"....

    ....inexcusable.

Charlie Weis has to go. ND needs a coach that can go up and down the sidelines and bring some fire and emotion to this team. Charlie can't even get up from the dinner table. Urban Meyer said in his book that Notre Dame is where he always wanted to coach again. Urban's wife said Urban really, really, really (3 times) wants the Notre Dame job now that his kids are older and traveling the country to recruit is not as big of a problem as it was before he went to FL where he could recuit locally.
Alabama just beat out ND for the top HS recuiting class and what happened to them with their young team? Number One! Bye, bye Charlie, don't let the door slam on your fat butt on the way out!
    GO IRISH !
