Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
Pete Carroll does not, nor ever has had, a vote in the coaches poll. His anti-BCS stance seems to have him excluded. I'm not sure how this has come about - but I do know that it is fact. Maybe somebody can enlighten us, how in this free America in 2009, Pete Carroll (coach of the USC Trojans) does not have a vote in the coaches poll that every other coach in America has? Anybody got the answer? Because I honestly do not know this one.
New guys: endear yourselves and research that for us, please...
Also I find it odd that the SEC has the most coaches voting, 7, than any other conference...mmmmmmmm
Though I do not know what will happen with Croom's, Tuberville's, & Fulmer's votes but Chizik has a vote. So technically the SEC had 8 votes in the final poll.
I agree; they should be darn good next year. If they hadn't managed 9 wins this year, they wouldn't be ranked at all.
The Chicken Bowl was especially bad. Kudos to LSU as they did the best job of defending the triple option that we saw this season. Tech's special teams took the game off (in fact, they took the season off). The weird thing was Tech's defense phoned in the second quarter of that game, giving up 28 points in an 8 minute span. The final score would have been a respectable 10 to 3 if the defense had played consistently throughout the game.
Florida 48
Utah 16
USC 1
I believe this is a fair representation of the public opinion, with about 25% of us thinking an undefeated season is an undefeated season and 75% thinking Florida is the better team.
I also believe that most of the latter 75% think the current system is horrible and Utah should have had a chance to play another top team or two to shut them up or earn a crystal ball.
There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
CHEERS!!
Time to start the recruiting talk.......
Geaux Tigers
Geaux SEC

"So enjoy Miami, Ray Ray and Dyron. But remember, be careful about transferring. At UM, it's more about The U than you."
I thought that was the way it should be.
Yessss.........
[ smiles while stroking beard ominously ]
Nice to see Ole Miss in there!
Plus...TCU doesn't belong where they are, IMHO.
Boise State is the only one loss team behind them, and they beat them. They also beat BYU SOUNDLY. That is two top 25 wins. Other than Alabama and Oklahoma, name a 2 loss team that can beat all that?
Just remember, hokey playoffs and ancient rivalries are no match for a BCS CG win at your side...
The BCS...so uncivilized. I'm not Anakin Skywalker, Lord Sidious. I will not turn to the dark side...
USC vs. UF
Utah vs. UT
Texas Tech vs. TCU
Best part of the college football season:
Besides the obvious crab grab, the downfall of Chase Daniels and the tigers. My cousin played baseball with him at southlake in High school and the guy is the opposite of Tim Tebow when it comes to being a team player.
Utah 2004 vs Utah 2008
Then maybe:
Utah vs. USC
Utah vs. UF
TCU vs. Texas
Ben, I supose you could take solace in that. Not to mention, TX did arguably play a much tougher schedule. That said, USC didn't, and I don't see where Utah couldn't have beaten Penn St by any less a margin. Just my opinion, big guy.
I think in December they all voted at closing time...
It won't be long before it will be finally be decided on the football field.
Prior to the Feista Texas #3 and Ohio St #10 after Feista Texas #4 and Ohio St #9
So the team that wins drops and the team that loses gains
BTW OSU's loss to PSU was real close and the loss to USC was without Wells
http://www.jcdenton40.com/
12-1 Feista Champs 5 straight bowl wins
8- 10+ win seasons in a row
possibly to Austin where you and Lennie may have hooked up...welcome back..
Let me guess: you were working undercover in a dope ring--otherwise known as an Oklahoma huddle. Yuck, yuck, yuck...
Mack Daddy!!
Utah wins BCS computer component, claiming #1 in 4 of the 6 official BCS components.
Team: AND BILL COL MAS SAG WOL -- computer average
Utah: 1 3 3 1 1 1 -- 0.98
Florida: 2 1 1 2 2 2 -- 0.97
Texas: 3 4 2 4 3 3 -- 0.91
USC: 5 2 4 5 5 4 -- 0.86
It is noteworthy that Sagarin and Massey both offer MOV rankings they tout as being better than the BCS algorithms that have Utah lower.
A much broader measure has 8 out of 62 algorithms selecting Utah as the champion. The AP poll has twice this, at 1/4. This could be due to some voters choosing Utah to stick it to the system.
With the blog poll out, with results similar to the AP vote, I think it is fair to say Utah has 25% of the vote.
Sorry if it looks familiar. I took a few of my comments in this thread, applied some electricity, and created a whole new monster...
Hey, I got lines to fill over at the homer site...
The fact that a FLORIDA GATORS site supported Utah, giving Utah the #1 vote in their Blog Poll, is sweet.
and 48% of AU fans support a playoff interesting, thought it would be higher after the 04 debacle
I certainly hope so. Otherwise, I have some existential issues to resolve. :-)
I've seen several Utah, UGA, and FSU fans pointing to the Saurian Sagacity article to justify their positions (i.e. UF shouldn't be #1). I'd rather point to the plethora of power ratings that have UF at #1 and Utah somewhere between 4 and 6, my favorite being Sagarin.
That does not change my belief that the BCS is a sucky system designed to preserve the power structure of NCAA football history. If the BCS were not associated with collegiate athletics, I believe the FTC would charge the BCS with numerous anti-trust violations.
You know as well as anybody, that the ELO-CHESS, is exactly what the problem is. It only rewards teams for not losing. It does not reward any team for who they beat, how much, or where it was played. The EC is what the BCS demands. If they used the "Predictor" - then we would have a completely different ballgame. The "ELO-CHESS" was designed for the perfectly "politically correct" system. Not losing is all that matters to this system. When did the last "Super Bowl Champion" go unbeaten? How many "Super Bowl" Champs have had as many as four losses? Never in the history of football, has it ever been true, that just because you lost a game or two - that you might not have been the best team. There are many injuries in this game and that is a reason for some losses. But, once a team gets healthy, particularly during bowl season - we have a whole different set of circumstances on the field. The ELO-CHESS does great injustice to this principle.
