You know as well as anybody, that the ELO-CHESS, is exactly what the problem is. It only rewards teams for not losing. It does not reward any team for who they beat, how much, or where it was played. The EC is what the BCS demands. If they used the "Predictor" - then we would have a completely different ballgame. The "ELO-CHESS" was designed for the perfectly "politically correct" system. Not losing is all that matters to this system. When did the last "Super Bowl Champion" go unbeaten? How many "Super Bowl" Champs have had as many as four losses? Never in the history of football, has it ever been true, that just because you lost a game or two - that you might not have been the best team. There are many injuries in this game and that is a reason for some losses. But, once a team gets healthy, particularly during bowl season - we have a whole different set of circumstances on the field. The ELO-CHESS does great injustice to this principle.

And then I would point to the column that says ELO-CHESS and point out that this is the one the BCS uses, which agrees with 3 of the other 5 BCS computers, giving Utah the edge for the BCS computer average.

Can I be a Gators fan AND opposed to the BCS?

I certainly hope so. Otherwise, I have some existential issues to resolve. :-)

I've seen several Utah, UGA, and FSU fans pointing to the Saurian Sagacity article to justify their positions (i.e. UF shouldn't be #1). I'd rather point to the plethora of power ratings that have UF at #1 and Utah somewhere between 4 and 6, my favorite being Sagarin.

That does not change my belief that the BCS is a sucky system designed to preserve the power structure of NCAA football history. If the BCS were not associated with collegiate athletics, I believe the FTC would charge the BCS with numerous anti-trust violations.

Ok, LSU is not directly involved in the issue, Florida is.

The fact that a FLORIDA GATORS site supported Utah, giving Utah the #1 vote in their Blog Poll, is sweet.

With the blog poll out, with results similar to the AP vote, I think it is fair to say Utah has 25% of the vote.

The real question will be Next year How high will UTAH, Boise State, and TCU be rank. I am hoping one of the three schools will be rank in the top 6 in order to have a legitimate shot for the National Title

The football rankings are compiled by the USA Today Board of Coaches which is made up of 63 head coaches at Division I FBS institutions. All coaches are members of the American Football Coaches Association.

I thought I heard Pete say that he was offered but said no..basically b/c he feels the BCS is BS.

Also I find it odd that the SEC has the most coaches voting, 7, than any other conference...mmmmmmmm
Though I do not know what will happen with Croom's, Tuberville's, & Fulmer's votes but Chizik has a vote. So technically the SEC had 8 votes in the final poll.

So the team that wins drops and the team that loses gains
BTW OSU's loss to PSU was real close and the loss to USC was without Wells

NEWS FLASH:

Utah wins BCS computer component, claiming #1 in 4 of the 6 official BCS components.

Team: AND BILL COL MAS SAG WOL -- computer average
Utah: 1 3 3 1 1 1 -- 0.98
Florida: 2 1 1 2 2 2 -- 0.97
Texas: 3 4 2 4 3 3 -- 0.91
USC: 5 2 4 5 5 4 -- 0.86

It is noteworthy that Sagarin and Massey both offer MOV rankings they tout as being better than the BCS algorithms that have Utah lower.

A much broader measure has 8 out of 62 algorithms selecting Utah as the champion. The AP poll has twice this, at 1/4. This could be due to some voters choosing Utah to stick it to the system.

I was trying to point out just how close (the likely reason Ole Miss was underated so) Ole Miss was to an even greater season. Throw things across the room as ye see fit. You have lots to look forward to next season.
