Fanblogs.com: Five things I want to see this season a

  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
    1. OU win a BCS Bowl
    2. Repeat as conference champs
    3. OU win a BCS Bowl
    4. OU win a BCS Bowl
    5. Beat Texas, again and again and again

If yall are having trouble seeing the comment box on Internet Explorer, just click "REPLY" to any thread and then scroll down to the bottom. It should be there. I have advised the commenteers to fix asap.

Winnig a bowl game has not been easy for OU. If OU loses its bowl game this year, OU will lose whatever luster it has with the media. OU is no longer the media darling it once was since getting the SH@#@##@T kick out of them over the last four bowls. Might I remind you that the same USC team that slaughted OU lost to UT in the national championship game.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
GEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ, talk about hijack a thread, I thought this was supposed to be fun......
  • JB · 1 year ago
Yeah..we kind of went overboard there didnt we?
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Hey OU Ron this is fun! I am not trying to cause problems I was just tired of these SEC fans on here trying to convince ME how the SEC is the BEST! I held back for so long but I now have to let it bust loose. I am not at all trying to say they don't have a right to feel that BUT why is it important for them to try to convince me? If they think Oklahoma is the worst thing to happen for college football then it's their opinion and I will leave it at that. They post threads and websites trying their best to convinse us! Gee, they must not have anything positive going on in their lives and have to rely on thinking the SEC is good to feel good about themselves!
  • JB · 1 year ago
hahaha i guess my life sucks then :)
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I don't know you so I don't know BUT if you say it does then who am I to argue?
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I forgot to mention that one of my five things would be a thread not get totally hijacked. :-)

Y'all please be good to one another. Nothin' but love for the college football brethren.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Hey Kevin, I can value someone's opinion BUT these SEC fans on here are really trying their best to make us want to believe the SEC is the best. I know when I don't agree with them they attack. I could care less what they think about Oklahoma let alone the Big 12. They fail to realize the websites they mention can be bais. Sport announcers can be bais. Did any of them watch the NBA Finals. None of the announcers were not affiliated with the Los Angeles Lakers BUT see how they "kissed' up to them and bragged about them being 18-2 after they got Paul Gasol. Game 6 the announcers quickly switched sides to the Boston Celtics. So I do have love for all of on here BUT that does not mean i have to agree with them and they don't have to agree with me!
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I get what you're saying -- everyone's entitled to state & defend their opinon. And -- for their record -- having a different opinion doesn't mean that either pary is right/wrong.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
    You are right!
  • Marko · 1 year ago
    Michigan:

    1. Would like to see the offense gel towards the middle of the season.
    2. Would like to see the defense take charge and win some close games.
    3. Would like to see a 10-2 record(or better)
    4. Would like to see how the team overall adapts to Rich Rod's fast tempo of play.
    5. Of course.... Would like to see the Wolverines march into the Horseshoe and knock OSU out of title contention. I dislike those red-neck, low-life, wannabe champion pieces of crap fall on their face every year.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Don't hold back, Marko; tell us how ya really feel.
  • Cougar_Fan · 1 year ago
    1. Notre Dame 5-7
    2.Utah beats Michigan
    3. BYU and Utah play for a BCS bowl birth
    4. Texas Tech wins Big 12 south
    5. Cal accepts me for law school!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
    I definitely like #2!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Is Southern Utah University still talking about starting a Law School? SU U School of Law has a certain ring to it.

It's good to see another MWC fan around here, I expect BYU to build quite a bandwagon as the season progresses. BYU has a chance to do something special this year.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see BYU win all their non conference games to lose all their MWC games. And I expect the feeling is mutual.

#4 might not be to popular around here. Just saying, I'm staying out of this one.
  • Cougar_Fan · 1 year ago
I've never heard about SUU getting another law school. I don't know I wouldn't go there.
and yes, the bandwagon I'm sure will get going if the cougs don't muff it at the beginning of the season, but I hope you don't get the idea that I'm one of those! Most certainly not , I eat drink and sleep college football whether BYU's up or down. As far as the Utes go I like them to be as successful as possible leading into the BYU game, that just makes a cougar win that much sweeter (and I must say I am jealous of Utah's OOC record especially against BCS schools (9-3 in the past few seasons, not bad!) I'm thinking that this years game is really going to be exciting, both teams should be ranked and the game could possibly send the winner to the BCS.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Sorry, bad pun I remember from the good old days in Utah, where SU U is pronounced sue you. They don't have a first law school to get another. Only two schools in Utah have a Law school. We are each the fan of one of them.

The band wagoners won't start until if and when they are 3-0.

Any BYU supporter appearing before then are legit. There was this Utah fan who showed up here before 2004, so who knows.

As for our OOC record, I hope we don't start regularly padding it with games like Weber State. What happened to the days when the MWC broke away from the WAC and committed themselves to tough OOC schedules? This year is an obvious step down in that regard.

I hope they didn't take notes on Hawaii last year. When teams, like Utah and Boise actually play tough OOC games they hold their own. When teams like Hawaii, on a very padded schedule, get there they get blown out of the water. Not to mention BYU, Utah, Fresno State, Boise State, TCU and a few others can get in even with a single loss. Tough schedules make your team better and give your team better odds at getting in.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
    OK... for my team...

    1) FSU's offense finally start to look like a college offense, rather than bad pee wee league football
    2) Mickey Andrews get the defense back to championship level.
    3) The Noles learn a killer instinct and stop losing or letting teams back into games in the second half.
    4) FSU upsets Florida (especially if it causes UF to be knocked out of contention for something/anything)
    5) A January bowl game, preferably a BCS bowl that we have earned/deserve
  • cdogg · 1 year ago
5 things I want to see this season.

#1) Ohio State Lose game 1
#2) Notre Dame loose game 1
#3) Ohio State loose game 2
#4) Notre Dame loose game 2
    #5) Florida loose to Miami
  • Fearthesweatervest · 1 year ago
well lets see...five things i want out of my team...
    1) a national championship...watch out here come the "overrated" buckeyes with one massive chip on their shoulder...
    2) the heismen...beanie4heismen
    3) big ten title...we already have this in the bag
    4) send michigan and RR packing...if the ducks and app state can beat them...who cant???
    5) 200%...they give 200% every year anyhow
oh...and marko...let me remind you of the last 4 years of OSU perfection against michigan...tell RR for me that he might want to get lots of pain killer for him and his "team" to use after we are done with them...good luck
    GO BUCKEYES
OUR HONOR DEFEND WE WILL FIGHT TO THE END FOR O-HI-O
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
OU-Ron, thanks man. Its been a combination of work, work, a little family time, a little traveling time, work, work, and more work. Thanks for remembering about the ticket. Great things are yet to come in reference to the development of Oklahoma City. Its booming and the NBA is going to increase it by 100%. I don't know how you feel, but I'm ready for football to start. Its just been too long. BOOMER!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Lennie, while you're at it, how about wishing Rich Rodriguez would pay WVU the entire $4 M, instead of forcing MI fans to foot most of the bill.

Here are 5 things I would sincerely like to see happen by next January.

    5. Miracle of miracles, we'll have found a way to elect a decent President out of these atrocious candidates.
    4. Gasoline will fall below $3.00 a gallon and stay there for at least 2 years.
    3. The business world learns to employ people and treat them fairly as opposed to cutting costs by laying them off. There are other ways to cut costs, such as making better business decisions.
    2. FSU goes 9-3; Penn St goes 10-2, and they meet in a bowl for the tie-breaker, after which Bobby Bowden & Jo Pa shake hands for the last time as HC's.
    1. Our troops are brought home safe and sound for the last time, that they can spend the holidays with their families then and ever after.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
This is probably one of the best I've read on here thankz Zac
#1 Troops come home safe & sound and spend holidays with their families for ever & ever
#2 Hydrogen cars take over that run on water ending dependence on fossil fuels and helping the environment and world economy. inflation is reversed and the dollar grows rapidly , working families are actually rewarded for their efforts instead of penalized
#3 everybody gets along and world peace is a reality all violence ends
#4 The two-party system of American politics is abolished and everybody has real health care, not just the wealthy and your vote actually counts
#5 The American farmer actually sees a profit feeding the world and no body goes hungry ,starvation ends worldwide
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Zac, I don't feel Michigan fans should pay any of it. I think Richard Rodriguez is a fool! He claims West Virginia is he DREAM JOB and brags about not leaving, signs a big contracts, leaves a few days later, and thinks he can keep the money he recieve up front! The United Stated Government does not even operate like that! I wonder whay values he is NOW going to install in his players. Michigan will probably have a lot of it's players leaving early for the draft. The lesson from the coach...Go get the money! It's all about the M-O-N-E-Y! High gas prices are here too stay!

    1. UF win the SEC;
    2. SEC champ beat USC for BCS--badly!
    3. Petrino go 0-for the season, and get run out of town on a rail;
    4. Rich Rod'z go 0-for the season, and get a 10 extension;
    5. Illinois/Coach Zook win the Big 10.

    GO GATORS!!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
#3 is good and the Nuttless hogs lose to Ole Miss and Texas this year
and they lose to A&M at J Jones new stadium next year, they fire Petrino or he leaves early and they hire Switzer and continue to lose
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I definitely like #5! But, that "...run out of town on a rail;" thing, too funny.
  • 4cornerz · 1 year ago
    1.UCONN wins the Big East
2.Miss St make it to the BCS game
    3. Rose Bowl will have a non traditional match up
4.Big East have 2 schools in the BCS
    5. We will have a split national champion
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Lennie, don't sweat the whole thing about OU losing bowl games. And besides, comparing LSU's overall football program to OU's overall football program is like comparing the Iraqi Army to the United States Army. There is no comparison. Just my opinion. BOOMER!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Hey Fan, glad you're back, you must have been busy for a while, not for sure you were going to make the trip over to the new system.

Remember to let me know when you get back home, I owe you a ticket to the Oklahoma City ????? basketball game......
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
By that, do you mean that Barack Obama wants to pull the Sooners out of Oklahoma?

I can just see the front page of the NY Times: General Poops????
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
OU Fan welcome back! I don't think GeauxTigers0107 was trying to make LSU sound better than Oklahoma ALTHOUGH that is 1/12 of it. I feel that he like the most SEC fans try to or want others to feel the the SEC is the (edit). If a person does't then he is intellectually challenged or sexually deviant! In my opinion there is on GREAT conference. Each conference has its great teams, medicore teams, and terrible teams. The way SEC fans tell the story...each team in the SEC can play and win the National Title. Yes...even Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and Mississippi!
  • JB · 1 year ago
no defintely not Vandy, MSU, or Ole Miss
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
The way SEC fans talk including you it sounds like every teams can win it all!
  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
Lennie not trying to argue but considering that the SEC will likely have four teams in the top ten to start the season thats tough to argue whos at least precieved to be the toughest conference.

Big 12 is looking much better and i wouldnt be surprised if the big 12 winner makes the NT game this year.
I dont see any SEC team making it as i feel they will all have 2 losses.

My way to early out on a limb pick OU vs USC
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
i think the whole ranking is a little bias in the first place for pre-season rankings anyway.
  • JB · 1 year ago
Shiguy i agree totally i think polls shouldnt come out until after the first wk
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
The Big XII had 3, THAT"S 3 in the Top 5 last year. It was for 1 short week BUT I noticed the SEC faithful did not even brag ONCE! Big 12 fans did not get on here and brag about the Big XII being the best! The Big 12 could also have 4 teams ranked in the Top 10 during the season and I believed that would be a reflection on those individual teams and NOT the conference! NEXXXXXXXXXXXXXXT!
  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
It would have to be a reflection on the individual teams cause the conference has been weak thats my point, glad to see that your seeing that now ....NEXXXXXT
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
The only point I see is talking to someone who makes his point like the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, would say if he was alive...like a dull knife you ain't cuttin' by talkin' loud and sayin' nothin'! Get ta steppin'...NEXT! This is comin' from a guy whose team will not even win their division let alone their conference! Crimson & Cream Solid!
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
Lennie, I dont want you to feel anything. Your opinion is not on my list of "things I treasure most". So don't read into it more than it is. I knocked OU's program as a rebuttal to your comments about wanting all SEC teams to finish at .500 so you don't have to hear how great they are. YOU BROUGHT IT UP. NOT THE SEC FANS, LENNIE. YOU DID. Thus my response. I don't have a damn thing against Oklahoma. There's only two college teams I hate and one is in the SEC, the other is independent. In the grand scheme of things, it's a game, a football game. I don't think LSU's program is better than OU's and vice versa. You should really try and get that boulder off your shoulder. And stop lumping all SEC fans together by saying garbage like "the way SEC fans tell it, each team in the SEC can win the Nat Title". It's a broad generalization and not everyone shares that opinion. Here lately the SEC has done pretty good in that department but it doesn't qualify any of them to believe that anyone, anytime, we're the best theory.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I glad you feel that way! I have nothing against Louisiana State. I recall I said the SEc fans on here, Fanblogs. I don't know ALL SEC fans.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
God, I never thought I'd get my turn. This thread just exploded with comments. Can't believe it's bigger than the Victoria Secrets thread already. OK, here goes.

    Top 5 for WVU

    5. Defense works out to be at least 60% as strong as the offense.
    4. Pat White breaks the NCAA rushing record for QB's, and still passes for more yards & TD's than last year.
    3. Beats Pitt in Pittsburgh, BIGTIME!
    2. Finally beats S FL for the 1st time in 3 seasons.
    1. Wins at least 11 games & beats VA Tech in the new "Orange Bowl" during an all out ESPN Classic (ratings beat out the NC)

    Top 5 for Big East

    5. Goes undefeated in non-conference schedule, improving overall win/loss records from last year.
    4. Auburn vs. WVU beats previous ESPN viewing/ratings record.
    3. Commissioners figure out a way (using my idea) for expansion to at least ten teams by 2010.
    2. Pitt lives up to this year's hype.
    1. Undefeated in bowls, 4 teams in top 25 (1 in top 10), and the conference FINALLY gets some respect.

    Top 5 for the Country

    5. Fresno St beats WI.
    4. OR St beats OR beats ASU beats USC beats Cal beats AS beats UCLA beats OR St, and the pundits can try and sort it all out.
    3. Since Ramblin Gator stole one from me (lets add NE to that list), and Jonathan stole one from me (Weis will celebrate at Wendy's.). lets have Baylor, Duke, NW, & Vanderbilt become bowl eligible.
    2. Rodriguez goes 2-10 in his 1st year at MI.
    1. The BCS is forced to set up a 1st ever play-off between 11-1 Clemson, 11-GA, 11-1 OK, and 11-1 OSU. I'll let you guys pick the winner.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
BCS playoff. Fun situation, if these are the top 4 teams, with one loss a piece, how would the BCS rank them?

Clemson would be #4, but he rest is a toss up, with the left out team crying foul.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
    Iz da a chiken joke?
  • WestCoaster · 1 year ago
Five things I would like to see...

    1) Definitely someone new atop the Pac 10. Getting way too sick of the Trojans...
    2) Clemson playing for the NC
    3) Texas Tech living up to the hype.... at least making a BCS bowl
    4) Pitt winning the Big East and giving the Wannstache something to cheer about
    5) and to agree with 4cornerz, MSU winning the SEC (Sly is sick)... if not that, I would love to see Spurrier bring some magic back to SC and get that team into the SEC title game and shake up the east a little bit
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    1. Baylor knocks off OU at Floyd Casy Stadium in Waco and the game goes down in history as the Beatdown on the Brazos
    2. Arkansas loses to UT and Ole Miss and then the nuttless Hogs fire Petrino and hire Switzer
    3. App st moves up to Div1-A after beating LSU
    4. Rice goes undefeated and wins the MNC
    5. Notre Dame University goes 2-10 and gets a cheesbuger sponser on NBC
  • IBleedOrange · 1 year ago
As a Tennessee fan, here's my top 5

    1) UT hands Florida a beatdown of epic proportions.
    2) UT wins the SECCG and a BCS bowl/ Silences the Fulmer critics.
    3) The Dave Clawson offense comes out looking like a well oiled machine on day 1.
    4) Eric Berry breaks all kinds of records and gets his name in the mix for the heisman.
    5) Arian Foster breaks the UT all time rushing record.
  • Hotty_Toddy · 1 year ago
How about Ole Miss ended the drought and finally getting into a bowl game? And winning it... we usually win once we get in.
  • JB · 1 year ago

  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    1. Okay we aint going away
    2. Lennie moves to Norman OK and starts rooting for the Longhorns
    3. Horned Frogs beat OU
    4.A&M beats OU
    5. Texas beats OU
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
    1) Texas Fans will be quiet about this Barry Switzer "cheated" theory!
    2) Texas Fans will go away completely!
    3) 1Tomcat will develop some common sense!
    4) Texas will go 0-12!
    5) Texas football will get punished like SMU cause they were guilty too!
    Crimson & Cream True!
  • Football Picks · 1 year ago
    1) No
    2) No
    3) No
    4) Yes
    5) No

    1) The way I see it first a team has to be good enough to beat a power and nobody in the Pac 10 really is yet. Then once you're good enough you have to get confidence and sometimes that takes a year of tough losses to learn some lessons. The problem in today's college football game is that sometimes there just isn't time for both talent and confidence to come together.

    2) Tebow may very well once again be deserving of the Heisman as the best player in college football but odds are he won't win it. Because as you subtly illustrate in the original post the most deserving player usually does not win it so what are the odds it will happen two years in a row??

    3) As much as I hate to admit it, the SEC is simply too tough and Georgia may have a game or two in which they get caught reading their headlines too much.

    4) Weis has already lasted longer than most coaches at Notre Dame would have with his results.

    5) Have we reached the end of time? These guys will be coaching for 100 more years.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
    1) The Gators defense will be anywhere near as good as their offense.
    2) Percy Harvin stays healthy for an entire season.
    3) Paul Johnson wins more than 7 games in his debut season at GT.
    4) FSU and Miami climb back into the top 25.
    5) USF and UCF continue to be giant killers.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Ya knowz ya stolez numba fowa frum me.

Where's more love for NATS? BTW, PJ will win at least 7...
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I'd be more optimistic for NATS if PJ hadn't let Jon Tenuta make a parallel/downward move to ND. I think PJ is a step up from Chan, but I'm not especially optimistic for this season. Since Chan consistently won 7 games per season, I'm just hoping for some improvement on that number eventually.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
No commentary on the MNC embellishment thread? Figured you would weigh in. I really decimated GT's trophy case. Couldn't help it. They display it so prominently on the electronic marquee overlooking I-75/85 as I drive by each week--had to verify it.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
It's a good thread, but I don't really have an intelligent comment to add. Funny, that hasn't stopped me from commenting previously!

I remember hearing some disputes over GT's '52 and '17 championships when I was a student. The main defense coming from the AA at that time was go count how many NCs are claimed by Tennessee and Alabama. (Politics at its finest - don't answer the question, change the subject.)
  • bmc1157 · 1 year ago
Tebow winning the Heisman is the organization's proliferation of politics in College Football. UF has a LARGE population draw not only within the State of FL, but across the country. It might not be as big as Texas, USC, or Notre Dame, but still it's big. Darren McFadden from Arkansas should have won the trophy. He did more with less than Tebow did. I'm not arguing that Tebow isn't a good QB. Matter of fact, he's a great QB, but McFadden did more with what he had than Tebow. Small schools with smaller "draws" will not win the Heisman. It just doesn't make good PR.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Are you serious?!?! 'Cause it sounds like your joking.

    Andre Ware -- Houston
    Ty Detmer -- BYU
    Barry Sanders -- Okie State
    Doug Flutie -- Boston College

All "smaller" draw schools - all toting Heisman's. Maybe you're not aware who the Heisman voters are, but they are a very diverse group.

As far as Tebow have relatively more than McFadden, I would say that both players were the center of their offenses. However, Arkansas had several skill players drafted this year that were a supporting cast to McFadden -- Felix Jones, Marcus Monk, Payton Hillis. Meanwhile Florida had one offensive player drafted TOTAL -- Andre Caldwell.

So... not fair to say that Tebow had more to work with. He most certainly did not. The defense knew what he wanted to do every time -- and he still won the award.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I agree with your reasoning, but in practice it may not be completely acurate.

Last year, Dennis Dixon was leading in all of the Heisman polls before injuring his knee and I truly doubt that Oregon has a bigger following than UF. That being stated, I think there has always been a bias toward some schools (e.g. Nebraska, Notre Dame) in the Heisman balloting.
  • husker dennis · 1 year ago
that bias towards some schools is there for a reason they get some pretty good players
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
Right... Eric Crouch was the best athlete in the NCAA and deserved the Heisman trophy above all other players.

If you believe that one, I have some "land" south of Naples you might be interested in acquiring.

5 Things I'd Like to See in 2008

1.) Clemson actually win ALL of the games that we should (which would result in #2 happening...)
    2.) Clemson win the ACC
3.) Ohio State to lose at least 3 games (and stay out of the title game)
4.) Notre Dame not have a winning season
5.) 3 new teams in BCS bowls, including 1 from a non BCS conference
  • RazzMaTazz · 1 year ago
Joe: If Clemson actually wins all of the games that they're SUPPOSED to win then Clemson will go undefeated and play in the BCS NC game (probably against UGA, USC or OSU). I'd sure love to see that!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Honestly, I'm not sure that our schedule will be strong enough this year for a BCS NC game. Of course it all depends on what happens with everyone else, but I could see a 1 loss team with a stronger schedule passing us (if we were to miraculously be undefeated, that is). You never know how strong a schedule will be until it's over, but it doesn't look that great right now.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I agree. Clemson's best shot at a "marquee" game requires FSU to step way up, BC to have something this year, and VaTech to make it to the championship. Even then... SC State and Citadel will hurt.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
So you don't see any potential for Alabama, South Carolina, or Wake Forest to be a marquee game?
  • 4cornerz · 1 year ago
Things I would love to see this year, but probably it will not happen but anyway

    1. BYU plays for the National Title
    2. Two Non BCS Schools make it to the BCS
    3. MSU wins The SEC
    4. A Big East School vs BYU for the National Title

Who do you like, S FL, UConn, or WVU vs. BYU? All would be premo, IMO.

BYU...c'mon people it is time to be realistic yea Boise had a great team ( and some added luck) two years ago but as we saw last year in our reality check that undefeated Hawai'i doesnt even deserve to be on the same continent as UGA BYU would be a great story and i hope they prove me wrong

An undefeated BYU would have a profile closer to Utah 2004.

For what I thought of Utah in 2004 preseason look here. BYU will be very similar this year, but starting at #15 and ending around #3 or 4.

If a turnover at the top like 2008 occured simultaniously, well stranger things have happened
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
    #1, #2, #4, love them all.

#5, why do you think ND is going to get that many wins?
  • jake · 1 year ago
One thing I would love to see this year is a natural or forced balancing of the BCS conferences. I know that sounds general and it certainly suggests an alternative bowl system. My issue is with how the talent and power programs have slowly shifted to the Pac 10 and SEC. Don't get me wrong, those conferences have always been strong. But what has happened to the Big Ten, ACC, Big 12? If you look at them team by team, they are becoming top-heavy. And the Big East . . . well, let's not go there. Logically, a playoff system might help correct this but I am not arguing for that. I simply would like to hear more than just OSU, UM, or PSU out of the Big Ten? Texas or UO out of the Big 12? Which ACC team will rise above mediocre? And which team from the Big East can shock the nation? For many of you, the struggle within the SEC is exhilarating and I agree it is. However, being from the midwest, I getting sick of watching doormat games. So, maybe you agree or don't, but I am calling for a shift in the power alignment of college football - force or unforced.
  • JB · 1 year ago
I think within the next couple of years you will get your wish.........Mizzou and Kansas are on the rise in the Big 12 Clemson looks promising (but will they ever live up to expectations) i think that this year UConn will surprise many and win the Big East
  • Zac · 1 year ago
People forget; UConn shared the Big East Title last year. They got lucky in a couple of games, but what teams in presumably better conferences haven't gotten lucky with some of their wins?

I think UCONN was overrated last year. They wide receiver core sucks. I think Uconn will go 5-7 this year. Pitt will win the Big East this year
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Well, I guess that answers my earlier question.
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
*Georgia is overrated, and their schedule is BRUTAL, they'll lose 3+ games...
*Purdue will win the Big 10+1
*Notre Dame will win 7 games(b/c their schedule is terrible) and get to play in the default Gator Bowl vs Florida St...
*Texas Tech STILL doesn't have any defensive talent, so everyone hyping them are idiots
*UConn could surprise again, watch out West Va

UConn's LB's and DB's are all still wet behind the ears...They also have 2 Freshmen on their O-Line as well. I will say that their Offense will be decent.....Their Defense will be struggling...for sure.

Does this have anything to do with the fact you are a Mountaineer?
  • Diggs_the_Mountie · 1 year ago
What does them having Freshman and Sophomores scattered all through their Defense have to do with me being a Mountaineer? Does your prediction of Knowshon Moreno winning the Heisman have anything to do with you being in the SEC? See how that sounds?

No... i can just accept that the SEC has the best competition as well as raw talent in the country
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
    yup totally biased
  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
Why do people always claim bias when SEC fans talk about the SEC talent level?
Fact is the SEC has more current NFL players, Has more drafted to NFL every year and has more National titles.
Now when i talk about Auburn , i may be bias but my claim that the SEC is best conference from top to bottom, well thats just a fact
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
because people like you come on here saying BS like "it's a fact that the SEC is the best" and sh@t like that. you come in here talking about how "we have more NFL players than anyone else." good for you that doesn't prove a damn thing. other than the fact that maybe the SEC has more teams that run systems which the NFL is more inclined to invest in. also you can't compare the fact you have more at all when there are 12 teams and not every conference has the same amount of teams. and finally touting how many national championships that your conference has is completely unrelated in anyway to the conference today. look at notre damned.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Shiguy...I am about to "Bust Loose" on these SEC fans! Do you want me to Bust Loose? It seems like you started it already! I agree with some of your post except that the SEC runs systems which the NFL is more incline to invest in! The NFL teams run more systems then most college teams can count. Remember ALL college players have to adjust to the NFL. The NFL teams has never and will never adjust their systems to college players.

Cause you are fellow Sooners...I am gone hold back for now! Cause i gone speak the truth and I don't think SEC fans are ready for it!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I am TIRED of it! Tired!
  • JB · 1 year ago
Maybe as SEC fans we see our teams as 'better' is because of the amount of good teams in the conference.... SEC fan or not you must at least consider that the SEC is one of if not the best top to bottom conference.....in that i am not saying that all of our teams are better just that there is more contest for the conference title. This is what causes al of the hype whenver an SEC teams comes out with 1 or no m losses. And most of our SEC superiority arguments are with the Big 10 +1 because of the last to NCG
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
i think it is more along the lines that your teams are just simply closer matched not anymore better. i keep hearing about how good the SEC is but then when they play other teams outside of conference against real football schools they still loose. case in point south fl vs. auburn, georgia vs WVU, alabama vs a poor FSU team, LSU vs michigan. sorry i can't add more to this but with the exception of Auburn and Tennessee there is hardly a respectable OOC team on any SEC teams slate. now i know that there may be a few more this year but in terms of consistant scheduling the two forementioned teams are it. more to it when one of the teams does loose to someone else there is no class whatsoever in that "yup we got beat". for the next year or so it's just "o well they suck this year"(auburn vs. s florida) or "wow they really screwed up that game" (georgia vs WVU). now granted that they did win the nat champ the last 2 years, but that doesn't tag the conference as the greatest ever. i don't remember anyone saying that about the B12 when they won 3 years ago.
  • JB · 1 year ago
LSU vs Michigan...????? i remeber a certain Sept 8th that was a pretty good pounding for a BCS Vatech team last year
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I am tired of you doggone SEC fans trying to convince me how good your conference is from top to bottom! What I am about to say is my opinion and my opinion alone! I thought Texas fans were arrogant BUT at least they get humbled real quick at least the week after they play Oklahoma BUT never the less they show humility. Rather it is true or not. I believe SEC fans try to convince the nation that the teams are the best on the football field to cover up what is going on off the field. Please do not attack me because I am repeating something similar to what Terry Bowden said a few years ago. The SEC fans brag about how good it's teams are BUT how long did it take for this conference to hire it's first African American coaches in football and basketball? The SEC was the LAST! How long did it take for teams to let African American players play for the teams? The SEC was the LAST! Even one of your own coaches, Steven Spurrier said he does not like the fact that the confederate
flag is still displayed at stadiums in the conference! I wonder how many SEC fans would stand together on this? I do not know any of you SEC fans personally on here BUT I had to say it! This is my opinion and it is just how I feel. The SEC might field good football/basketball teams but I give it a SOLID F on how it treats African Americans when it comes to coaching. Arkansas hired a guy who didn't have the courage to face his team to say he was going to quit on them! Kentucky basketball fans said they would "forgive" Rick Pitino if he wanted to come back to coach at Kentucky after coaching for their most hated rival BUT chased Tubby Smith away! Kentucky basketball lost it's first Division 1-AA home game EVER under Billy Gillespie BUT that has been forgiven and he needs more time. Alabama would probably try to hire Don Shula before they would look at an African American! Louisiana State would take Nick Saban back before they would consider an African American! I don't mean
to offend BUT I am tired and I had to bust loose. I know the SEC fans will "attack" me to cover this fact up! I am not attacking NONE of the SEC fans at all BUT this is an attack on the conference. I know someone is going mention why you have to bring up race? Cause I wanted to! The SEC is not the best conference to me. I said it once and I will say it again ALL conferences have their great team, middle of road teams, and teams that should not even try to compete. Why SEC fans trying to convince the USA it's the best? I really have no clue BUT it is really important to them to at least try! I am out!
  • JBone · 1 year ago
Is that what you call "Busting Loose"? Seriously!?! Saying that the south has racism is your form of "busting loose"!?!? Dude, get over it. By the way, quit saying that you don't mean to offend and that you're not attacking SEC fans! Of course you are and that's OK, but atleast do with some backbone! If you're going to make completely predictable and tired comments then I suggest not coming across as such a whiney victim.

By the way I just want to "bust loose" and say that Oklahoma is boring! Damn...chew on that!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
JBone I got somethin' you can chew one!
  • JB · 1 year ago
To comment on the confederate flag thing....i know from experience that (at least in Baton Rouge) the flag has nothing to do with race at all ....it is a symbol of the south and all of ours are purple and gold unlike in oxford where they run around with the real thing....and become informed LSU has a black basketball coach Trent Johnson
and by the way....no one likes to play the race card to get out of an argument
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Jonathan...you become informed! The confederate flag has a lot to do with race! If it didn't why did all southern states except Mississippi drop it from being apart of their state flag? A lie that the South was to try to convince the USA. Racism is a symbol of the South...YOU HIT THAT POINT ON THE HEAD! I think I said the conference was the last I DIDN'T say the conference did have any African American basketball coaches. Read my posts before you try to step towards me because you will be corrected!
  • JB · 1 year ago
I agree with you totally that the South has a dark racist history but that doesnt reflect on saturdays ...and btw LA ARK ALA Tn NC FLA TX and VA....states who never had the confederate emblem on the flag....that leaves Miss SC and GA
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
We haven't ever had the Conferderate emblem on the flag. Actually the South Carolina flag hasn't really changed at all.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Jonathan...again you didn't read my post. You are right that all southern states did not have the confederate flag in their state flag. I am in no way shape or form saying that the SEC fan base are all racists! I am stating MY OPINION ALONE. I get tired of people trying to convince me as well that the confederate flag is not a symbol of racism. When was it made? Is it just a odd coincidence it "pop" up after slavery ended?
  • JB · 1 year ago
Well now that we are onto race since the flag showed up during the civil war...it is racist ....what about the wagon used by the university of oklahoma....doesn't it symbollize the westward movement.....isnt that a racist symbol agaisnt the Indians
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
No! Indians are from the country India. Being part Native American I feel it's an insult to still be referred to as Indian! Indians come from INDIA...Native American were here already. I am multi-racial...African, European, and Native American. India is in ASIA. I have NO ASIAN blood in me! I do not feel that wagon is a racist symbol towards Native Americans. I see confederate flags being waved at KKK gatherings. When I see a wagon at a KKK rally then you can say racist symbol!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I've gotta say that comment lacked any semblance of logic. You have now qualified all things racist as having to be present at KKK rallies. I guess the Holocaust is now excused.

The Confederate flag was NOT a symbol of racism. It has been used by some racist groups, just as the symbol for Black Power has, as well as many others. Because some have chosen to use it as a symbol of racism doesn't qualify the symbol itself or those who choose to display it to be entirely racist. The Confederate flag was symbolic of the states that it represented. In turn, it was used as the identifying banner of the south in the Civil War. President Lincoln was clever to make people believe that the Civil War was about slavery, although it never was. It was quite ingenious because he was able to gain so much support for the war efforts, but it was never accurate.

I am not a supporter of the SEC at all. However, I do not find it appropriate or even in the least bit relevant that you are trying to degrade the conference as a whole just because some schools choose to show tribute to their heritage. I am sure that these institutions of higher learning know the difference, and are well aware of what they are doing. All of the member schools of the SEC have many races that make up their student bodies, as well as their athletic teams. To refer to one of these institutions as racist is asinine and absurd.

There are many ways far more relevant to attack the SEC. Please choose one, and I might even jump on board with you.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I can say this about your post as well. You can try to pass this junk off to someone else BUT not me. You probably didn't read my comments all the way because I did not say half the junk you just posted. I never stated a certain school or people were racist. I questioned the hiring and handling of African American Coaches and their history of dealing with African American players in the past. The confedate flag is a symbol of racism no matter how people like you try to reason with other that it is not. I am aware that racism exist in all types of people and not limited to one. The Civil War was about slavery...what was it about...unity? If you gonna step to me then you better come correct or don't come at ALL!
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
That is the most off the wall, out in left field, stupidest, doesn't have a damn thing to do with the argument of the SEC being the best conference...post I have seen. Please tell me why then, when watching any college football show, if the topic comes up, the sportswriters/sportscasters keep echoing that very sentiment? Why? Sooner or later, folks had to start thinking, "man, maybe the SEC is the best, IDK". It's strictly opinion-based for sure. And you are entitled to yours, as we all are. But to turn it around and make it into a race issue is the root of 99% of this country's problem. Does racism exist? You'de be an idiot to think it doesn't. Is it relegated exclusively to the south? Not even close. Perception and reality are miles apart in your mind Lennie. Maybe Trent Johnson really is white, just with a good tan.

Here are some facts that you and many others are not willing enough to except.

An NFL anyalist reasearch shows the SEC leads the way with 137 projected starters on NFL rosters in 2008. The ACC is second with 121, followed by the Big Ten (105) and the Big 12 (72).

These are just facts sorry you have a hard time dealing with it. The SEC is ranked #1 in terms of atheletes. Which by the way translates to the field.

  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
OKAY we wont talk about older NT lets just look at how the SEC has dominated since the inception of the BCS. Sorry im not buying your BS.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
and nobody here is buying yours that the SEC is the god conference. NFL recruitment in no way reflects football talent. it is reflected in multiple aspects especially gameplay. the dirty south is notorious for taking the faster players and putting them on defense rather than offense. aka NOT spread offenses. now i know there are still teams that run the spread in the SEC (LSU) but it is not run nearly in the fashion that it is in other conferences (B10, Big East, Pac10). that being said everyone knows that the spread is not favorable for the NFL in the fashion it's run in college due to risk to players. therefore if your teams arn't running a hardcore spread they are going to be more favorable for the NFL than teams that are strait spread since the NFL will be looking for large passing game players and fast defenses. and THAT is why NFL recruitment does not reflect the talent level of a conference in anyway.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Shiguy, why you are trying to reason with this man? He brags about how many NFL players are from the SEC BUT if any one of those players get arrested then it's no reflection on the school. If you are going to mention the school when the players get drafted and does well in the NFL then mention it when the players does bad!

  • jake · 1 year ago
You are right about Uconn. They have been pumping a lot of money into that program ever since it went D1. Other startups should take note.
As for Purdue, "not so fast my friend." I understand it's the coach's last year but they just don't have the talent. Most analysts aren't even putting Purdue in the top half of the Big Ten preseason rankings. Watch out for Wisconsin (as much as I hate to say it)!
Lastly, I do agree Georgia and TT are being overhyped but what can you expect from the media? That's part of being in the spotlight. Those players must learn to play like champions.

1Tomcat...the thread said 5...can't you read and count? Here are my 5:

    1) Oklahoma wins the BCS National Championship Title!
    2) Texas loses ALL it's games!
    3) Southern California has a losing record!
    4) All SEC teams finish at .500 so there will be no more talk on how great it think it is!
    5) Texas Longhorns fans will just go away!

    CRIMSON -N- CREAM TRUE!

    Might as well:
    1. Of course, LSU repeats as National Champions. I do realize that ALOT of things will have to fall into place for this to happen. But with a new QB, new Def Coord's, plus the impact of the loss of several key players and not to mention the tougher games on the schedule being on the road...well, let's just say the cards are stacked against us.

    2. The defense for LSU doesn't miss a beat with the departure of Bo Pellini. Co-coordinators Bradley Dale Paveto and Doug Mallory have no plans to try and "fix what isn't broken"...and that is a good thing.

    3. Les Miles doesn't run a "quarterback by committee" with Hatch and Lee. Some would argue that this would be the best way because both have no starting experience so you share the load and give defenses a different look. I just don't think that these two are that far apart enough in skill level to make a difference.

    4. LSU beats the dog shit outta Alabama in Baton Rouge this year.....just because they're Alabama. And an addition to this one is Auburn does the same to them in the Iron Bowl.

    5. The National Champion comes out of the SEC....whoever it may be.

I've got several more dealing with Notre Dame getting drilled by everybody everytime, a LSU vs USC Rose Bowl matchup (hey, while we're wishing..right?), and BOTH Joe Pa and Bobby B retiring after this season....but you only wanted five so there.....that's my Top 5.

Dream season for Utah (in order from realistic to fanciful dreaming):

    1) Beat BYU
    2) Win conference
    3) Go Undefeated
    4) Win another BCS bowl
    5) Accept invitation to join PAC 10
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
Lennie, stop drinking that Hater-ade my man. It's not just SEC'ers saying that. It's the whole country!

    And another for LC's sake:

    6. Oklahoma wins their Bowl game so they will be as good as OU fans think they are!

    while we're at it:

    7. Oklahoma wins their Bowl game to justify paying a coach 9 million a year....lol.

I guess I am in a different country cause I am not saying it or believing! The SEC in great only in their fanz mindz! *Cream & Cream True!* And GeauxTigers0107 while you are talkin' ......NO COACH: Professional or College is not worth paying that much money too! NO COACH!
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
We agree then....you are in a different country. As far as the 9 mill I mentioned, it was a joke Leonard. We all know what the highest paid coaches make and Stoops is near the top. That's the point I was trying to make. Apparently you missed it. Hang in there though. It'll get better...lol.

You sound like a blogger named Porcupine. Leonard? I don't know where that came from. I use my real name, Lennie Collins. That is what it states on my birth certificate issued by Lauderdale County in Mississippi .You are right I live in a different country called Don't believe all the SEC hype. I understand your point but you did not get mindz! No coach including Robert Stoops (His real name is Robert by the way) is not worth paying no 9 millions dollars to. Cream & Crimson Solid! Crimson is in the colors. I missed it cause I am preparin' to go to sleep good night! Crimson & Cream True! I don't let this non-sense get to me cause all it is is opinions on here!

I guess we shouldn't believe all the SEC hype.....especially looking at the last two national championships
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Jonathan, when ALL the SEC teams and I mean every single team in the SEC win a National Title THEN make that statement. If I recall Florida won it for Florida AND Louisiana State won it for Louisiana State. If I recall there are 10 MORE teams in the SEC. Next over hyped and silly comment!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Up next, AUBURN!! Or maybe Georgia...

Did you mean EVER, Lennie? If so, I think every team in the SEC claims at least one, save Miss State and S. Carolina...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Yes! Please list ALL the SEC teams and the year they won the title! I know Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana State have won them so that's 5. Name the years the other 7 won them! NEXT!
  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
all though it was a long time ago AU won it in 1957 the AP that is. SEC has 6 different teams that have won AP titles.
By the way thats the most of any conference.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Is that the most? Well in a way it is, but in a way it isn't. The ACC has 6 members that have won the National Championship.
    FSU
    Clemson
    Georgia Tech
    Maryland
    Miami
    Boston College

Either way, I don't really see that as a valid argument for conference strength. That only means that at some point in time 1 team was very good from that conference, and it happened to be different times.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
    totally agree
  • JB · 1 year ago
    Agreed there Joe
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Clemson Joe that not a good point...that's a GREAT POINT. The way a SEC fan told me...The SEC has a landslide margin over ALL the conferences. I don't know if he meant as a whole or individually. BUT he did say the most of any confereance. Another lie SEC fans want us to believe!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
The teams that make up the current Big 12 equals 5 so it's not by a big number...NEXXXXXXXXXXT! This is getting boring!
