Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
OK, what if either TCU or Utah plays one hell-of-a game against FL, but they still lose? Do you think that will prove anything to the BCS pundits?
The only reason that I see to do this is if some network comes through with really big bucks for each school.
1) Play what is essentially a home game, with your fans buying the great majority of tickets and getting to keep a certain percentage of revenues.
2) Get a mid-major team to play at your home stadium (Miami of Ohio will come to Lexington the following year, I believe) without having to pay the $600,000 or $700,000 that are required these days.
UK gets two games which are basically home games, with none of the loss of revenue that comes along with these "DOA" games.
Last year, we went to Tallahassee and played Florida State (and we play them on their home field every other year). As for the last time we played a non-conference foe outside the state FL, that would be 1991 when we went to the Carrier Dome and lost to Syracuse, 38-21.
Count me in as part of the 1% who wants to see FSU-Miami instead.
I would enjoy this game much more than the FSU-Miami game. TCU's defense vs. Florida's offense would be exciting, but I am not sure TCU has an offense that can do anything. I'd pick Florida 17 TCU 3.
Now back to NCAA basketball...
Earlier, at OK, TCU held the Sooners to 25 yards rushing. That don't do a whole lotta good, however, if they're not consistently getting to Sam Bradford, who torched TCU for over 430 yards on all of 19 completions. Again, TCU had issues with untimely penalties (12), a poor pass completion percentage (39), and twice as many T.O.'s (4) as against Utah.
If enough of this team's key players return, and if enough able back-ups step up, they could give FL a go. I'm not saying a win, mind you, but a game that could prove to be entertaining; that is, in other ways than Tim Tebow getting all the glory. I'm thinking more like 31-16. Yes, the margin of victory is about the same, but as I said, it's a darn site more entertaining. Just imagine TCU staying in it, but eventually wearing down, with FL pulling away toward the end. Just a thought.
