Fanblogs.com: FSU's future schedule hints at Bowden retirement?

  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
No need to worry. Now when they schedule a game AT Samford, then you can worry.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
    I almost forgot: FIRST!

    (I'm so ashamed.)
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
You may be right about that, but 2010 just kinda has that "going out" feel.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
When they schedule a game AT Samford, we should all worry? Hell, they should have schedule the game there. It's not as if they can't win it. It would be like a "Home Coming" for the passing of the torch from "he-who-was" to "he-who-now-is"...sort of thing.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
2010 is probably time for him to go. If they did do it for a "going out" type game, then I like the idea.
  • Dan Cheek · 1 year ago
If FSU has another season like the one they just had, Bowden will be lucky to get to 2010. But maybe the University will be willing to just grin and bare it until then. I do hope he makes it that much longer, though.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Personally, I'd prefer FSU do better. Bobby Bowden's a winner. I'd like to see him go out that way.
  • Cobia · 1 year ago
I think Bobby bowden will stay for three to 5 more years. I mean the university owes all it's success to the guy.

I think it depends on how hard teams come after Jimbo. Last year WVU was highly interested. Auburn was rumored to be talking to Jimbo in case Tommy T left. LSU was also rumored to contact Fisher in case Les Miles went to Michigan. Also, Arky was rumored to contact Fisher.

Last off-season Fisher was regularly in the coaching rumor mill.

Granted, it's a 2.5 million penalty if he talks to other teams now. But, a major program and it's boosters will gladly pay that if they hire Fisher as their HC.

Besides, I'm not unhappy about FSU finding a cupcake in 2010.

Our OOC schedule is going to be brutal. We'll be playing Florida (of course) at home, BYU, and OU on the road.

Florida, BYU, and OU are three extremely good OOC opponents.

In other news, it's been rumored FSU and USCe is trying to make a 1 time game happen next year in Atlanta.

That would be an interesting game. It'd be nice to see Bowden and Spurrier go head-to-head one more time before they close out their legendary careers.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I can assure you 100% that FSU is not playing a regular season game in Atlanta in 2009.
  • 1st_and_NOLE · 1 year ago
    What have you heard?

I've heard that from a couple FSU folks. My brother is a current USCe student. They've heard the same thing on their campus, pending they can get out of the contract with the Citadel.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I can only reiterate what I heard from a source I trust. No game in Atlanta in 2009, unless it's a bowl.
  • 1st_and_NOLE · 1 year ago
    I'd take the bowl lol

I think this more coincides with the pending sanctions to the FSU athletics as a whole...

Samford will be a nice game to open up with and secure a win given FSU will be even thinner in talent than present after schollie reductions over the next few years...
  • 1st_and_NOLE · 1 year ago
I doubt it. I think it's too soon to say how the NCAA sanctions will effect us - we don't even know what they are yet.

If anything, the fact we scheduled a cupcake, has to do with our OOC schedule that year.

Florida, BYU, and OU are some extremely, extremely tough programs to play OOC. Those are probably the toughest three OOC opponents anyone will be playing in 2010. It only makes sense to throw in a serious cupcake.

Now, I tend to agree with Kev's original thought on which cupcake they choose.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
FSU admin (i.e. the folks who schedule the games) certainly knows what the allegations are as they have received their NOA from the NCAA...

    However, they won't tell anybody...

    More on that later though...
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
FSU will get what they deserve and deserve what they get. Even still, the future schedules are pretty much set.

    2009 OOC - Maine, @ BYU, @ UF, 1 TBA
2010 OOC - @ Oklahoma, BYU, UF, Samford
    2011 OOC - Oklahoma, @ Air Force, @ UF, 1 TBA
2012 OOC - @ WVU, UF, Air Force (Orlando), 1 TBA

I have no objection to "fair punishment" being levied for rules violations. I vehemently disagree with punishing the entire team and its coaching staff. I say those staff directly involved with the transgression be fired. Those athletes who were either involved or who directly benefited from the violation(s) lose their scholarships. They may be given the option of transferring to play elsewhere, but they lose a year's eligibility in addition to having to sit out the remainder of the season and academic year. That would at least enable the school to fill those holes or assemble a new staff, and enable the coaching staff to bring in scholarship athletes who appreciate what's being offered to them. Just a thought.

VT will be in the Georgia Dome on 09, not FSU
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Here's an old wrinkle: Terry Bowden coached at Samford, then had to play them when he jumped ship to Auburn the following year. Fisher coached at Auburn, and Samford is playing Auburn the year after FSU...

Can anyone else hear that Twilight Zone music, or is it just me?
  • Regan · 1 year ago
Auburn last played Florida State in 1990:
THREE years prior to Terry Bowden becoming the Auburn coach.

    The score was 20-17:
    a THREE-point difference.

    Prior to that Auburn victory:
FSU had won THREE games in a row against Auburn, it's only win streak against the Tigers.

    Twilight Zone....Twilight Zone....Twilight Zone....
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Well, this certainly gives "End Zone" a whole new meaning.
  • Cobia · 1 year ago
I would like to see Auburn Play FSU.
