Fanblogs.com: Gators one step closer to building mortuary at The Swamp

  • Mr2Bits · 9 months ago
You'll find me at the 50 yard line or mixed up with cement in an artificial reef ball and dumped at my favorite grouper/snapper hole out in the gulf when I go. Might do a 50/50. Ill have the best seat at every game and be able see my favorite fishing hole.

    I like it.

"Gator born and Gator bred, and when I die, I'll be Gator dead spread!"
It's not enough that the Gators beat us for the national title, now they steal a line from our fight song! (excluding spread of course)

Am I the only person who thinks this is a gross waste of taxpayer dollars and elected official's time & efforts? The state of Florida has nothing better to do than license a Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as a freaking cemetary?

    Geezus H, folks...

Not to take this on a political bent, but there are a tad bit more important things to worry about if you're an elected official these days than whether or not I can spread my ashes onto a field that KIDS play on?

Am I the only person who thinks this is a gross waste...

    Nope.

"...Am I the only person who thinks this is a gross waste of taxpayer dollars and elected official's time & efforts?..."

Nonsense. Keep'm tied up with frivolty, and they won't be able to get to the things that matter...

    (that's a good thing).

And here was I thinking "putting on a spread" meant something else...
  • Clemson_Joe · 9 months ago
    Speaking of politics...

What do you think the chances are that your Governor will run for President soon?
  • Mr2Bits · 9 months ago
I love it how when someone doesn't like an idea or are jealous it turns to the pre-written " What a waste of tax payers money and/or politicians time and/or the state of the economy". Its just like the drug addicts excuses when they get popped for possession " your busting people for weed when there is murders and child molesters out there"
  • Clemson_Joe · 9 months ago
Wait, are you actually countering that it's not a waste of tax money?
  • Zac · 9 months ago
Actually, i would have thought it to be great for natural turff stadiums.
  • TigerEducated · 9 months ago
So let me get this straight...

They want to waste taxpayer money to legislate whether BHGS can become a damned cemetary, and you are now comparing me to a habitual drug offender whose arrested?

I would make some pithy metaphor up about the necessary logical leaping ability to follow that being somewhat akin to Evel Knievl's X-1 Skycycle that he used to jump Snake River Canyon with, but its the offseason, & I'm trying not to draw too much water from my metaphorical well these days...

But, to put it more succinctly...That point wasn't exactly a good one, 2bits...
  • TampaGator · 9 months ago
    TE:

You shoulda' recycled the Fonzy one--that one floored me, still has some life left in it, and it wouldn't have affected your original supply...

I think what 2bits is trying rather diplomatically to say, is that you, TE, are a child molesting, drug addicted murderer--because you think the gubm't should try to solve problems, when the evidence is pretty compelling that gubmn't at all levels, is pretty incompetent to such lofty tasks....

Now see, I wouldn't take it quite that far; to me, that just makes you a flaming commie pinko....

    ;) ...all in good fun...

Your point is actually well taken; I was just coming at it from a different perspective. Sure it's a waste of time and money, but if it wastes enough of their time, it will probably wind up saving money--since basically, when politicians's act...they spend.

(I'd actually drafted a much more elaborate post on point earlier, but held back--trying to keep the political commentary light, and to a minimum...).

    GO GATORS!!

Geezus...I remember that one...I think I mixed in a Julius Ceasar crossing the Rubicon with a Fonzie from Happy Days reference...

    That must've been a two-martini lunch...
  • Mr2Bits · 9 months ago
Thank you TG, that’s exactly what I was trying to depict TE as.

The metaphor I used was weak as I was in hurry but the whole point is that’s all you hear these days.
  • TampaGator · 9 months ago
    Mr. 2bits:

Why happy to be of assistance, sir. I think you made your point adequetely, but sometimes us Gators have to "simple-fy" things for products of a lesser education, as it were...

    (...just play'n, y'all....).

I totally agree, right here in Texas House members have filed 3,000 legislative bills and Senators have filed more than 1,500. Some are needed others are kind of silly like HB 836 that would allow the shooting of wild hogs from a helcopter. SB 944 is to help provide food banks with nutritional meals for the 25 % of the population that live in homes without enough to eat.
Gov Perry has asked the legislature to appropriate 135 million for border security and to combat transnational gangs. The crime cartels and escalating drug related violence resulted in over 5,700 homicides last year and 1,600 in Juarez right across from El Paso.
    Feeder cattle 3-1-08 116.78 3-1-09 80.12
    cotton 72.75 38.12
    grain sorgum 9.00 4.71
    wheat 10.95 4.72
    grapefruit 13.15 10.48
There are all more important issues for elected officials than were one can spread ashes
  • Mr2Bits · 9 months ago
marshall law/shoot to kill is the best boarder protection you can have in Texas. Plus they would save 200 million or whatever it cost to build that wall that people are jumping over or walking around.
  • 1Tomcat · 9 months ago
Na no wall needed no marshal law either.Closing the small border crossing only hurts the poor local people and does not have any impact on the smuggling business. Retired Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson suggest that each Mexican General be paid to control the problems, because they have absolute power and in reality the so-called drug war isn't working because of the huge amounts of cash that are changing hands and the corruption of the local, state and Mexican Federal police. Its supply and demand and as long as there is demand, then it will continue to flow and the violence escalates on both sides of the border.
Its a very complex problem for which there are no easy solutions for Sheriff's departments on this side who are under staffed, under funded and outgunned.
  • Zac · 9 months ago
I would recommend finding a way to make Mexico the 51st state, or at least like Puerto Rico. Just open the boarder and to heck with all the expenditure of guarding it. At least then the money could be spent on cleaning up some of the towns with cesspool streets, etc. Their factories would have to be safer and more environmentally friendly; their wages would increase and the quality of the products put out would theoretically be better. Now, if ya feelz ya gotsta guard a boarder, it's only as wide as Panama. That's a whole lot easier and cheaper to keep track of.
  • OU_Ron · 9 months ago
I don't see a problem with it, if that's what the University wants to do.........I just have to wonder what the stadium will look like on Memorial Day and if they will hold Memorial services at the stadium......guess they will have to schedule around game days

I'm posting because I will probably never get another chance to use the word columbarium. That is one fine damn word. Personally, if I were a dead Gator. I think I would prefer that my dead ash be mixed into a bottle rocket. Gonna get the Snake River to dump into the swamp. Bailout will fund the whole endeavor. Then my mortician wil sit back and wait for some ashhat to try and jump the stadium on a motor sickle. When the black coated bastid lights my fuse. I won't have to leap, not even logically. My ash will ruin a skycycle. Then it will waft gently down upon the crowd at the swamp. My ash will dust them all. My ash will insinuate itself amongst the accumulated horde of living gators. It will be glorious, thousands will wash me down with gatorade. Columbarium? If I get lucky, a couple of illegals might choke on my ash.
  • OU_Ron · 9 months ago
And if your real lucky, some of those hot looking Gator gals will take your ash home with em....
  • Zac · 9 months ago
Too funny, Ron. So, do they catch elephants in the swamp?
