BB I've seen a whole lot of Texas games that were down to the wire- real close and somehow Texas pulled out the win- This one went the other way-Also the team looked flat- couldn't get in rhythm- dropped int's, missed tackles- even Shipley dropped a pass. You win as a team and lose as a team- you gotta take the whole game and not just the few last seconds- those two freshman DB's have seen those haunting highlights repeatedly-wasn't the missed tackle the Pontiac game changing moment for the year-shoot- Texas lost the game & for Texas they still had a terrific season and won their Bowl another close one- thought ole Mack Daddy was going to have the big one-LOL

Regan Texas clobbered Missu-beat the H outa them,they also lost to KU and OK st Texas beat both of them too.

The travesty isn't that Oklahoma played for the Big 12 Championship, its that Mizzou played for it. The 3 best teams in the conference where in the Big 12 South.

The Big 12 Championship game would have been a bit more exciting if it had been a rematch of OU and Texas.

I want to agree with that math, but I can't. Texas had the lead and a chance to secure the win, but they didn't. You are giving Texas an a positive score because it was a "good loss," and that's the problem I have with your math. Granted, I think OU got in because they blew out opponents and lost early in the year. I still think Texas should've gotten in (don't both saying it's the head to head tie breaker can't work with 3 teams, I've heard that enough, and still don't understand how that means OU wins, but I'll save that tyrade for later).

Also, I don't think that missed tackle on Crabtree is what lost Texas the game. They still would have at least attempted a FG and I think even the TTech kicker could've made that one. The more crucial play was Blake Gideon's dropped int.

I agree, Tom22. IMHO, Texas did get hosed by the way the tiebreaker worked.

However, I am very much a 'you knew the rules when you went in' kinda guy. Even my Hurricanes got bit by this in 2000 when FSU played OU for the NC.

Should TEX have gone to the Big 12 championship? IMHO - Yes. Personally, I think they were the best team in the Big 12 South last year.

However, that isn't the way the world works.

Also...did anyone notice that TEX would have had to win the Big 12 CCG? Or do we all just "know" they would have won?

I know they beat MIZZ by 25 in the regular season, but claiming a Conf Championship with the assumption of a win?

It is a great game I hope someday I can go see it live. I hope I can go see any OU game live since 20 years has past since the last and only time I have seen them in person. Shipley is very good and if Colt would have won the Heisman I'd have been fine with that. Too many classy guys on both sides, it's getting harder to hate: )
But like any true Sooner fan I'll find some reason!

You're right TC, they were all Div 1 teams, but Cincy and TCU were all rated higher and tougher teams than Rice and Arkansas..........and this year's Texas OOC's are actually worse tha last year.......if it's another tie, you can bet that will play into the BCS ranking...just saying..

Last year - no cupcake schedule- all Div 1-A including a SEC team Arkansas and Texas Bowl winners Rice.
This year UCF and Wyoming
OU has a tougher schedule with BYU and Miami
BTW Ron be glad you got Baylor at home this year

NML Sooner enjoyed reading post=The RRS game is the biggest IMO and was a very evenly matched hard fought game. Shipley is a pretty fast return man and he will be back next season.

I don't know about that math but... I didn't feel like the teams were unevenly matched. I'm sure there is some bias in that. Oklahoma's horrible kick coverage gave life to a Texas team that OU seemed to be taking control of. (Look at the coverag, for some reason a coverage guy darts out of his lane at about the 50. Shipley runs right where he was supposed to be. puzzling.)Also, middle linebacker Ryan Reynolds went out. Texas was averaging 4.8 yards per play with him in the game, 8.4 when he went out. His replacement looked lost. There was what appeared to be an interception that would have ended a Texas touchdown drive. I don't think it was some sort of obvious romp.
I do take exception to your claim and others claim that OU ran up the score. I watched every play of every game they had. Many of those late touchdown came on a simple handoff on a stretch play. They were not 50-yard bombs with 45 seconds left.

There, I proved my math ! (smile) Its not all even in my book.

But the pollsters liked the way Oklahoma would run up the score in games that had already been decided. That sort of strutting doesn't help you when you play an evenly matched team . (taunt (smile) )

Seriously, didn't you all come out of the Texas Tech Texas game thinking that the two teams were about equal? Could you say the same after the Texas Ok game or the Ok- Texas tech game?
