Hey Zac They have done some renovations over there and now the ends zones are closed, think the current capacity is about 44,000 or something like that they replaced alot of the old bleachers with moderen aluminium and I'm guessing the end-zones and sections of the top deck were not replaced.
The Houston vs Texas Tech series should remain a Home & Home series and shoulld not be played in one of the larger venues. The Reliat Stadium, Astrodome and Rice Stadium are all really large venues, but its better to have these games played on campus.
Rice University is not really to relative to the Houston vs Texas Tech series except that they all used to belong to the SWC and Rice U is located in the same city Houston.
Rice Stadium does not have a Bowl game, but they did once host a Super Bowl.
The old Bluebonnet Bowl was at the dome and now the Houston/Texas bowl is held at Reliant. Nice place we went a few years back to a UT vs Rice game there, I guess it was city politics or UT Alum etc. that had the game moved that location. Really nice moderen stadium and Beer is served, cant get any at the campus stadiums.
Robertson Stadium at UH used to be known as Jeppison Stadium and they used to have Rock concerts there in the seventies, Pink Floyd, Dobbies Bros, Etc Etc
U of H used to play in the Astrodome during their glory days- late seventies early eighties.

Where is RICE relative to Houston & TX Tech? Do you think they could play a home/home series with a 3rd game at RICE's stadium?

Now, here's what's going to sound like a dumb question. Does RICE host a bowl game with that 70,000 seat stadium of theirs? It sounds like they could. Given the time of year bowl games are played, I would think a 70,000 seat stadium in the deep SW wouldn't be a bad idea. Not to mention, as small as it is, I'm told it's a beautiful campus. Just a thought.

Ya KFD your right, kind of a shame really, the stadium at Rice held 70,000 when it opened and during the 50's & 60's sold out regularly. After decades of lossing seasons and a real small student body and alumi base its real hard for them to sell tickets. The 06 season was really remarkable and strired interest with football fans.They got beat by Troy in their bowl, but heck at least they went 7-6 instead of 1-11. The 07 season was also very dissapointing, but coach David Balliff knows how to win and get the best out of his players. The community should support the program better than they do and if they would win more games it would really help attendance. Rice has started operation sellout and ticket prices are $10.00 about a tenth of a UT game that sells out every game. Its like that old saying that winning is everything. The first game this year at Rice is SMU and I hope they draw a crowd. Looks like a purty good matchup to me. This game might not have alot of national significance, but it will mean alot to both schools and especially the players.
P.S. I'd like to attend and its only about a 2.5 hour drive east from were I live, but I'm scheduled to work and the game is being broadcast on T.V.

This is good news and sounds good for college football fans.The Red Raiders have played other old SWC foes Rice,SMU and TCU. I'm glad to see them have a home & home series with the Cougars.
The city of Houston has always been a recruiting hotbed and since SWC was dissolved alot of these recruits end up at schools in BCS conferences.The Houston metro area has millions of people and they should support college athletics better than they have in recent years.
Games like this should draw very well and ought to be a bit more exciting than the annual Texas vs Rice game.

I think this could be a big draw game for Houston and Robertson isn't that big of a venue. I knowfor Houston fans fighting that traffic to Reliant Stadium can test one's patience!

Texas Tech tends to do fairly well with keeping its OOC schedule at the mid-major level (or above)

What? Huh? Eastern Washington this year? UMass was not originally on the schedule.

Leach loves him I-AA teams (Indiana State, Sam Houston State, SE Louisiana), and lousy I-A teams (Florida International, North Texas).

Leach like most coaches schedules for four easy OOC wins and hope for 2 or 3 conference wins. Viola. Bowl bid where your school can provide a quarter of million dollar subsidy to the football program. <cough>Texas Tech</cough>

It might get change to Reliant Stadium if Texas Tech have a good season(Beat Texas). I was surprised TEXAS FOOOTBALL pick them to finish higher than TEXAS but second to Oklahoma. I am not sold on the fact that Texas Tech might beat Texas this year!
