Fanblogs.com: How did Ed Orgeron end up at Tennessee?

  • OxfordAndrew · 10 months ago
I'm glad for Coach O and want him to do well. He worked his ass off at Ole Miss from all accounts. Maybe he's not quite head coach material but I wish we still had him on our recruiting staff.
  • Zac · 10 months ago
OxAn, some people don't come to realize their best destiny until it's too late. At least in college football, provided you're exceptional at one thing or another, you've a shot at getting a second chance. I just hope he's come to grips with this being his best destiny, because there may not be many more chances for the man. As for Lane & Monte, no one can say they don't know how to pick their staff.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 10 months ago
"before yall start, I don't care what your'e here to say...I'm coming"

That doesn't sound like anything I would think Ba-Bay would say. And it's completely opposite of what his Mom has said as well. Something else happened to cause him to choose Tenn over LSU. My guess is that it had something to do with him possibly making more money than his DC, had he came to LSU.

Maybe they asked him to accept a lesser amount with bonus incentives to make up the difference. Who knows....I just wish we could've landed him for his recruiting skills.

I don't think he looks good in turtlenecks--that's the reason.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 10 months ago
LOL. I'll go along with that one.

Maybe they offered him a chance to make commercials for the local Hummer dealership.
  • Zac · 10 months ago
Hmmm... TB, I'm thinking your comment is more suited to the "Cocks" thread.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Not that kind of Hummer, Zac. This kind of Hummer. (You're in danger of TampaGator getting offended and giving you a talking to.)
  • Zac · 10 months ago
    Was it something I said?

(We're gonna hafta come up with something new; I think we wore that one out.)
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
    Nah. Classics never die.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 10 months ago
Tell them about it, Tom Tom!
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Did you ever notice right at the beginning of the video, he's got his head on a swivel? Does he think another Hummer is going to tackle him like Jack "The Assassin" Tatum or something?

WEA-WEA? (We used to call my son Jo-Jo when he was younger, so that threw me for a loop when Coach O said that at the end.)
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 10 months ago
I'm going to call you Zig-Zac...
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Huh? Was it something I said?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 10 months ago
Yea, that was meant for Zac. I misread the commentor...

That story is filled with so much bullsh!t it's unreal. About the only thing that's true is that they went to visit him in Florida.

His wife was DEAD SET against moving from Louisiana. So were his grandparents. He had to BEG Les Miles at the Superdome for the LHSAA High School State Championship Games to bury the hatchet over the negative recruiting of Joe McKnight (doing his old boss a favor by undercutting LSU), as well as guys like the Tillman Defensive End.

What he was afraid of is Chavis being the Defensive Coordinator, and being a long-term guy. He has no aspirations to move along. In Tennessee, they threw him more money, and they guaranteed him the DC spot after Monte retires.

But, let me tell you one thing, the inclusion of his "wife" into the story lets you know from the start it's bullsh!t. Anybody that's close to that situation will tell you she was ADAMANT about not wanting to leave the state, not only for her children, but her family, who are here, as well.

As it is, Orgeron has burned his last bridge here. I've also heard that they promised Lance Thompson the DC spot once Kiffin retires, as well...so I'm not sure where it all ends up.
  • The_Observer · 10 months ago
How do you know what Orgeron's wife was feeling? I don't even know what my OWN wife is feeling most of the time!
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
He read it somewhere on the internet - therefore it must be true.
  • TampaGator · 10 months ago
LOL!! I'll have to second that (re. the wife).

As for TE--haven't you figured it out yet? Those pathetic souls in Lousiana take it personally whenever anyone wants to leave their beloved swampy little mosquito infested state.

"...hwut? wheere ya' at???... you wanna' leee-uuhhvuh?!?!?? why--them thar's fight'n words, you sumbeeaacccchh..."

...and along come the insutls, the rumors, the inuendo, the slieghts...

Louisiana is like Hotel California--"...you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave..." (not without piss'n everyone off, that is)

Hmm...Go coach for your home state and a great program, or go coach for some fly-by-night first-time college coach, who hired his dad, as well as his brother in law, and a bunch of recruiters who don't have any coaching chops, whatsoever?

I have tossed no insults or epithets. I didn't in my initial post, either.

My source on that is Bobby Hebert, the former Saints QB & HS Team-mate of Orgeron's at South Lafourche, where they won a State Championship in '77.

He talks about Orgeron all the time on WWL, and speaks about his family, and was VERY candid after it was rumored he was coming here.

The insults and sleights have come from you, TG...Not me. The man is simply not intelligent. All things considered, he didn't make a decision with family, heart, or his brain in mind...He made one with his sense of greed.

They backed the brinks truck up, and everything else took a back seat to the money.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 10 months ago
"swampy little mosquito infested state ???"

Thank God Florida doesn't have swamps and mosquito's. LOL

    You acuse Louisianians of:
"...and along come the insutls, the rumors, the inuendo, the slieghts...

But just prior to that, you do exactly what you acuse us of......lmao.
""...hwut? wheere ya' at???... you wanna' leee-uuhhvuh?!?!?? why--them thar's fight'n words, you sumbeeaacccchh..."

    Pot....meet kettle.

And I don't know anyone who talks like that in South Louisiana. There's a big difference in the dialects of rednecks and cajuns.

And I wouldn't say it's taken personally, at least not by me. I would've loved for him to come to LSU because I, like you and I'm sure most on here, want in state talent to remain just that...in state. He made his decision and that's that. The sun will come up tomorrow and life will go on, with or without Coach O.

Isn't there also some land-mark located in NC. I think it's name begins with the words "Great Dismal". I'm bett'n uze gize will find a mosquito or 2 in there. But the accents of the local natives is closer to that of Jimmy Carter's. (I spoze all of em could be peanut farmers...)

  • Ramblin' Gator · 10 months ago
Hey TC, I'm guessing you've been to Boktoberfest in Shiner - correct?
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Yes we attended the year they had Robert Earl Keen,Junior Brown,Marsha Ball & the Taranchalas
We really like the Czhilispiel in Flatonia- Its alot cheaper and less crowded, you can come and go as you please and they have had some purty good entertainment Bruce Robinson,Kevin Fowler etc etc. We have some friends that do the cookoff- its a blast- sampling all the different stuff.
Earl Cambell was there, I think he has the key to the city, nice guy
Schelenburg has a purty good festival too, seen Pat Green at that one, there were probably 5,000 college aged girls at that one.
The best small town festival is Praha Tx- its really laid back- cold beer, sausage and accordian music

No kiddin? Wasn't aware of that. Unfortunately, we all have our fair share of 'em. I'll take mosquitos over love bugs any day though. Can't keep a vehicle clean during their season.

    GT:

Sure, FL has more than its share of swamp lan' 'n 'skeeters...perhaps even more than LA...and, we have more than our share of 'necks 'n hey-seeds....as for the dialiect--didn't give it a whole lotta' thought-I figured if I worked the "where y'at" in there, I could take some liberties with the rest.

FWIW: one of my brothers graduated from Tulane, and I had quite a few friends who attended Tulane and Loyala; so I've visited NO/LA many times, and I like the fine folk of LA just fine.

I was mainly just pokin' fun at the appearance that when someone leaves or snubs LSU (e.g. Saban)--a "burn in hell" mentality seems to develop amongst the Tiger faithful (by contrast: Spurrier left UF--high n dry at that--gets the standing O treatment when he returns to UF, even as coach of a rival).

So no disrespect inteneded; just hav'n fun here.

Thx TG. I guess the whole "pathetic little souls in Louisiana" kinda puts me on the defensive. Just tryin to represent my man. Our state definitely has it's fair share of problems but it's ours and if nobody stands up for the little bit of good we do have, then it's time to turn out the lights. You would do the same, I'm sure. And rightly so.

I do see some with the "burn in hell" mentality though....especially concerning Saban. I just don't subscribe to it. Like it or not, he's the one who built the program up to national prominence. Some will never admit that but IMO, it's true.

So yall still love some Spurrier after the way he left? Wasn't aware that he got that kinda love when he steps foot back in da Swamp. Would he get the same love if he would've ending up in Gawja? Hard to say. TWLOCP would take on a whole new meaning....lol.

Your're right--I would do the same (re. standing up for your state).

As for the Ol' Ball Coach as HC @ UGA?

I can only shudder at the thought....

    TE

Speaking of burning bridges how bout the one James Willis burned at Auburn.
  • TigerEducated · 10 months ago
LOTS of head scratchers, this offseason...

Orgeron to LSU, then to Tennessee instead...

Willis flirting with LSU, while ultimately staying at Auburn, THEN spurning Auburn for the bucks at 'Bama?

I think Nick paid him-BIGTIME-to be able to recruit Mobile. Lance was his big dog there, and he needed to have that Red Eleaphant Ca$h...err...Club being able to help him do his bidding down there...

Then, Lance Thompson pulled the stunner on Nick like Tom Cruise in "The Firm"...If that guy EVER gets a dime dropped on him, I'm telling you now, look for James R. Hoffa's body to get dug up in Paul Bryant Jr's backyard, with DNA evidence linking his pappy to the killing...

You can't find a more accurate description of a situation to apply the cliche, "He knows where the bodies are buried" to Lance Thompson & Alabama...

Their recruiting is going to suffer-BIGTIME-because of what Lance knows...

Always interesting in the SEC...I'm just worried about the situations and hijinks harkening back to the old days of the SWC...
  • Volpimp187 · 10 months ago
I for one don't care how he got here, I'm just glad he is here and Chavis isn't!
  • TigerEducated · 10 months ago
LOL...We'll see how you think about that come fall...

The guy had the #4 defense in America last year...and you're glad he's gone...

9 times out of 13 he had a defense in the Top 3 in the Conference...and you're glad he's gone...

    Nice one...
  • lsubillfish · 9 months ago
Hey TE, you are dead wrong!! Kelly, Coach O's wife does not have family in La. She is from Arkansas and she is not the one who was so adamant about staying in La.. Also, Bobby Hebert and coach O are friends, but they are not very close anymore and haven't been for a couple of years. I for one, am not at all happy about Chavis either. He is a career DC but his style of coaching is not going to please us in the Bayou. Sorry to shoot down your "source", but it sucks!!!!!!!!!!
