Yeah, his academic cred is clearly questionable....especially since he hasn't been able to sustain any academic respectability at UF....other than the highest GPA on the team, consistent HONOR student status, all SEC academic status, or anything like that...

Props for Rolle earning Rhodes Scholar status, but one Rhodes Scholar on FSU's roster, does not make FSU superior to UF academically. It will take much more than that, son.

Start by surpassing USF and UCF in academic standards; then, multiply FSU's research grants by about 5x; proceed by gaining admission to the AAU; build up about 50 years worth of cred amongst the academic elites; tighten up your admissions; lose the circus; multiply your endowment by about 3x....you get the picture....

Then, feel free to smugly lecture us about academics.

Meyer's system benefits from outrageous athletes. There are many times that my brother-in-law and I sit there and predict Meyer's plays:

Tebow run off of left tackle.... Harvin handoff..... Tebow fake step, gun down field to Murphy...

That is Urban Meyer's playbook in total.

I understand what you're saying now--you were referring to past MNCs and not future ones. I guess it depends on perspective. I think PSU is much closer to getting another than Washington is. Notre Dame? I'm betting it'll take them longer than Washington.

FSU was wide-right from an MNC in the 90's. There are many circumstances which lead to a teams inability to win (or qualify for) a NC. My point being was that people use MNC's as a gauge of program success, and UW has won one more recently than either program. Therefore, while they may be the worst right now, the prestige still exists and the potential for a turnaround is much greater.

I will go along with everything you said with the exception of the remark about PSU. ND yes, PSU no. Penn State was within one point by a last second field goal of making it to the National Championship game this year.

I'll add that I love the fact that their stadium is open at one end and has a view of the harbor. That's got to be the best view in college football.

I agree. Also, just because Washington is beyond awful this year, they are much fewer years removed from a MNC than other "more prestigious" programs, such as ND and PSU. Seattle is beautiful, and I love that royal purple and gold.

I'm sure they can find plenty of people that fit his description. Now his motivation will be hard to replace BUT could it be that Urban Meyer is the source of that motivation? Better quaterbacks come out of high school since(didn't Marve beat his records?) and suck, I know I would take 2 of the sidelined quarterbacks currently at Florida for FSU over what we have now. I agree that is one motivated kid. Such passion. Sometimes the special needs people of the world have such sparkle it brings a tear to the eye especially when he crams 45 points down your teams throat two years in a row.

Hey Ben! You never gave me your thoughts on Utah DC Gary Andersen taking the Utah State HC job. Do you think he'll remain with the team (edited for clarity--for the bowl game)? Seems like the players sure want him to.

Alex Smith was superman at Utah, getting picked #1 the NFL draft and nominated for a Heisman.

Where is he now?

Quarterback built like fullbacks thrive in Meyer's offense.

I would be, too, but in my opinion, Meyer's recruiting is going to replace him...

Not in a QB sense, but in the sense that by this time, he's got his slew of receivers, he's FINALLY got his tailbacks in place, and he's finally putting his defense together (Hell, Haden and company are still just sophomores, though seasoned sophomores)...

Which means that while Tebow's unquestionably carried that team on its back, he's had to do so because that team was growing up and getting built around him...Once he's gone, the foundation for a super-strong program under Meyer's offensive philospohy will remain...

I will say this...Be wary of losing his leadership more than anything else...LSU was missing the wolves of last year in Dorsey, Steltz, Highsmith, and Hester, & Flynn...Those guys were easily replaced talents, believe it or not (The coaching replacements were jokes, unfortunately)...

Their leadership was sorely missed in a trying season...

I think the same will be said for Tebow...The talent and the system will be in place to continue winning...but who will be there to shake off the punch to the mouth that teams like Ole Miss, LSU, Georgia, and the like are going to be salivating over and just waiting to deliver?

It'll be a tough, intangible missing factor to the Gator equation...

All in all, though...I think Meyer's building a long-term dominant program in the East...Kiffin & Richt will battle for 2nd place...

My main point was, don't underestimate Meyer's ability to coach with the players he has. Again, he's done it everywhere he's been. Plus, Tebow is one guy out of 11...on the offensive side of the ball. Superman doesn't play defense. Yet.

I'll repeat, don't underestimate Tim Tebow's influence on the success of this football team. I hope it is Meyer's offense and not TIm Tebow, but it's pretty difficult for me to discount a player with Tebow's ability.

I think it's a shame he doesn't seem to be the front runner for a Heisman again. And that's coming from an OSU fan who wants to see Archie Griffin remain the only two-time Heisman winner.
