Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
Now back to the bolts and nutts- This weekend's game is bigger than ever, bigger than OU vs UT and bigger than Missu vs UT, heck this game is bigger than any other game played this week- period. Thanks to T.E. for bringing a little bit of exposure to this weeks game, which happens to be the biggest game of the year-just like ever game the Longhorns play.
Thanks to T.E.

BTW how many threads about the Horns - 15
Over the last 6 seasons the best they've done was 9-4 & 8-5. The rest of the way, they could do little better than average 6 wins a season. This year, save for their visit to Mizzou, OK St has absolutely dominated. They won at WA St by 26 and scored an average of 56 pts/game over their next 4 games.
Now, you can argue, lots of "O" & no "D". Well, they sure held Chase Daniels and company (averaged over 53 pts/game before they met) to 23 pts in Columbia. They also held Baylor to 6 pts. I know; it's Baylor, right? Well, this is a team which scored an average of 42 pts over 4 games (includes 3 pt loss at UConn); among which they beat WA St by 28. You have touted Baylor's offense as being impresive. The point is this; the Cowboys can play defense when they have to.
Without question, TX is as solid as I've seen em in a long time. Yes, they've put together many a 10-win season over the past 10 years or so, but this team has most of them beat, in my opinion. Still, there's no reason the Cowboys can't stand up to the Horns. It all comes down to intensity; which team really gives it 110%. TX is coming off back-to-back dominations against emotional rivalries. This is OK St's 2nd trip in 3 games; they've proven they can play well on the road. But, the team they beat in Columbia got destroyed in Austin. Then again, for how many games can TX maintain that kind of intensity?
What has to be most frustrating to OK St fans where TX is concerned, involves this tale of two halves or even 3 qtrs. Since 2004, OK St has led the horns big at the half, only to squander the lead in the 2nd half. Last year TX came back to beat OK St in the final seconds, as I recall. Something tells me if the Horns get down big to this team, they won't come back. However, something else tells be the Horns won't get down big, if they get down to the Cowboys at all.
throw out all the stats and history- its all wide open
This is what its all about, from the git go
Its anybodies game-who wants it bad enough
It will be about mental preparation- because both teams really matchup
From the very begining of the season all the talk including this site was all about
OU and Missu- both good teams, however as you recall, I posted on here that Texas Tech, Oklahoma state,Kansas and Texas also feild tough teams and since Texas gets to play everyone of those teams- nobody really gave them any chance of doing anything, well this weekend OSU vs UT and Texas Tech vs KU somebody is gonna win and somebody is going to lose= does it mean that one team is better than the other?- not necessally- they just happened to play a better game on that particular day.

Actually, we all know what's going to happen. Future board meeting convo
"So how are we going to pay for this?"
"What public school has the highest tuition?"
"I believe that would be Penn St. sir."
"hm alright then raise our tuition to exactly $1 less than theirs. HAHA at least we're not the most expensive!"
"Um sir that will probably be the largest tuition increases in a single year for any public school.......ever......"
"Hmmm good point....Well take all the new students on tour through the FINISHED suites in the new stadium. So they get a good idea of the place they'll never be able to afford. Be sure to put a tip jar at the end connected to a long tube which drops it off at the bottom of the stadium where the construction workers' can collect their hourly pay. Ha! I am a genious!!"
So, ya happy about last night's game?
I find it a little hard to understand, how a guy with that kinda cheese, could be so ignorant as to not protect some of it along the way. I mean, I can see losing a large percentage, as many have - but all of it? I always have a more cynical mind. And, with that kinda money laying around somewhere, my first inclination is always that someone got their hand in that cookie jar. I mean, I'm sure that the University got stuck with the bill, but I really doubt if ol' T. Boone Pickens didn't somehow recover some of his "gift".
In a normal gift you sell the asset and donate cash. I am sure OSU would have had tighter terms on how they could have invested that money (read - not all at risk in hedge fund), and this problem would not be, The IRS should never have allowed those terms at the time of the original gift.
* - Not said by Mike Gundy. And in case anyone wants to revisit that clip, here it is.
Anyhoo, all kidding aside, this is just flabbergasting. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of world class financial gymnastics they're going to have to perform just to keep from going bankrupt. I'm betting there are a lot of other departments that'll be squeezed for some cash. Maybe they'll get lucky and Warren Buffet will feel sorry for them.
Actually, if the government can afford to dole out $900B to help the banking industry w/bad mortgages...(Doesn't this qualify for a "bad mortgage?) OK, I'll stop.
You're definitely right though--Gates wouldn't blink at a $200 million donation.
...and TBP writes off all the paper losses while hanging on to the hard assets that generated the value in the first place, and he'll be filthy rich all over again, within a matter of months....
All for the greater good though, right? Why his work in developing alternative energy sources....I'll stop myself right here; let the reader's political bent lead him where it will.
GO GATORS!!
Does anyone else ever think T-Bone when they see his name? Ummmm. Steak! He's got a pretty good rapper name for an older white guy...
Perhaps the bankruptcy court will need to find a place to park all these wind turbines that probably collateralized something. Maybe on campus?
Yes, perhaps Gundy can deflect some of this heat unto himself. He's a man, although I believe he's 41 now. I'm 40 this year, the only time I can make that claim. I've got 2 months left...

FBI, CIA, LSD…eh, heh, hell, be, he, he, J.
Jonsey's got it right. He either means one of two things: a) "I" as in me (will be footing the bill) or b) "Aye" as in seconding that sentiment. I believe that "choice a" is the correct answer, because Jonsey and many more just like him, will be picking up that tab.
as in 'IOU"
Obviously, they let their home owners insurance lapse. Have you seen that place lately? It's in shambles--ever since the NFL-Europe tanked. They raped you at the concession stands. A hot dog and a glass of chianti was $50.
However, the problems there are still not as bad as the flood insurance problem they had in Venice...
And that is why the Los Angeles Rams had to leave and so did the UCLA Bruins and the L.A. Raiders...And, a bottle of water costs more than a hot dog. And, parking on some homeowners lawn costs more than the tickets do. And, you'll be lucky if your 24's are still there when you get back to your sled. Yep, the only thing it's any good for nowadays, is to "sacrifice" all visiting college football teams to "Zeus".
The stories...Oh, the stories...
Official greating:
Head On down to Sheridan/McDonald's/Disney/UnderArmour/CokaCola Stadium - Apply directly to the forehead.

OSU can figure it out next year or the year after and if not, then the Okalahoma Legislature will. How about the Barry Switzer Stadium and paid for by Jerry Jones or Jimmy Jones. Yeah, that could happen when pigs fly!

I must defend the university I attend.
The University of Alabama has had more Academic All-Americans than Harvard.
And all SEC schools have great academic programs. You're obviously can't accept the fact that we have great football programs AND academics.
I like it. Peasant Jared. And, the whole time I've been calling him Jared the Janitor. You've outdone me. You've reduced his ranking to "peasant". Outstanding! Looks like your getting the hang of this thing. Keep an eye on TE. This guy can start to teach you how to totally dismantle your opponent, with staggering verbal beatdowns, until said opponent is rendered completely speechless. This is the level you must strive for if "Bama is gonna hang with the Big Boyz". Bleed has not been able to sustain much of an assault, but being a mere rookie, we all feel that he has much potential for being almost as obnoxious as me or TE or Lennie or Tomcat or TG or....Well, you get the point?
I try.
;)

Let's not get carried away here. Mississippi, and Mississippi State are not great, and really are not even remotely good. They currently reside in the not so respected Tier 3. LSU stepped it up and joined tier 1 this year, but they were Tier 3 last year and being reprimanded for academic shortcomings as a program. They are taking steps in the right direction, but let's hold off on that "great" label. Actually, in my opinion, for whatever it's worth, a school should at least be in the top 100 to be "great". From the SEC, that's only 5 schools.
18 - Vanderbilt
49 - Florida
58 - Georgia
83 - Alabama
96 - Auburn
Congrats on attending one, but 7 of the schools in your conference aren't helping out.
Since the Big Televen and the ACC do not have anyone not in the top tier, I think it's safe to say that you could apply the "great" label to both of those.
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/c...
Edit: One thing that I found interesting, is that there are 6 conferences that don't have a school in the 4th Tier. That would be the 6 that currently make up the BCS. I'm sure there isn't a correlation, but it does seem appropriate, at least to me.
Look no further than college football's top 25 for proof of that.
Go wolf down another $5 Foot-Long, JaredIsMorbidlyObese...
The old corporate raider got raided. I'll bet all those folks he put out of work may have a little smile on their faces. Now the Pokes are victims too...
Hey Cowboys welcome to Austin
Hookem-Horns
The Cowboys always play the Horns tough and this year will be no different. The Cowboys have a real strong running game- The Horns have a real strong Defense against the run- interesting matchup.
The Cowboys have a real strong-O-line and the Horns have some blitzing/sacking DE's and LB's this ought to be a good one. The Horns have a purty good offensive attack, can the Cowboys D stop them? They did good against Missu and won the turnover battle. If the Horns can play a clean game and limit turnovers, they will probably win the game, a couple of TOs could possibly make the difference in the outcome of this one. Seems like the same thing we were talking about in last weeks game. The Horns need to give it 100% and I just hope all the Hype/Media BS doesnt mess them up, because this is probably the best OSU team that UT has ever faced. Glad the game is in Austin instead of Stillwater -98,000 ought to make some noise, The Horns are 10-0 against the Cowboys and Mike I'm a man has got his team fired up ready to play. Here in the B-12 its like a Championship game every week. Two top ten undefeated teams head to head.

I am sure Oklahoma State will be just fine. It is states like california that are broke. It is $12 billon in the red and Obama or Mccain better not give them a dime.
