In 1977, Auburn had Lionel James, Joe Cribbs and William Andrews all in the same backfield... A year or two later, Cribbs and James Brooks...

In 1984 and 1985, Bo Jackson and Brent Fullwood...

And in 2004, Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams...

    WEA:

That was one of the strangest comments that I have seen in quite awhile. I remember when Oklahoma used to have about 7-8 RB's who would all play on Sunday's. Let's see: didn't Greg Pruitt, Joe Washington, Ivory Crockett, Billy Sims, Elvis Peacock and any number that I have forgotten - all kinda play together at Oklahoma back in the 70's? Those teams were loaded with RB's. Right now, Southern Cal has at least 5-6 guys who will play RB in the NFL. Of course, the Nebraska and Miami teams were always loaded also. And, how about when Charles White played RB and Marcus Allen was the FB at USC in the late 70's? And, there was the time that Ricky Bell played FB while Anthony Davis was the RB. Throughout history, there have been many better backfields, than anything that LSU has ever put on the field. Man, for a minute there, I almost forgot that LSU was not "tailback U.".
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I guess the key is to have them all play on the team at the same time. Not everybody who runs in the NFL was necessarily a big name guy in college. Granted, I don't follow the NFL that much, but I only recognized one name in that Miami bunch above...

Ewwww! That's was funny! How long will the fans put up with this?

    haha. great article

Throwing the OC under the bus?
that sounds eerily familiar to a story i heard on the plains....
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Only Tuberville isn't in his 4th year.

He wasn't winning with anyone's recruits.

He didn't give the job to a longtime assistant.

He didn't give the job to a guy without any playcalling experience.

He didn't come from an offensive background.

He didn't coordinate the offense the first two years he was there.

He didn't relieve the coordinator heading into games versus creampuff opponents.

Other than those minor inconsistencies, it sounds eerily familiar...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
    Oh....SNAP!!

Hey, it beats throwing HCs under the bus. In the last decade, Alabama 5, Auburn 1, lest anyone forget...
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    no. it doesn't.
because throwing HCs under the bus got us Nick Saban and the #1 ranking in the country.
I bet you and all the Auburn faithful are wishing you would've thrown Tuberville under the bus a while ago.
wait. no. i forgot that y'all are only concerned with the Iron Bowl. not necessarily being competitive nationally.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
    Competition starts state-wide, first...

Throw out a guy that's 7-2 against Bama? Are you serious?

Man, you Bammers are worse than Democrats were with Bush. You think that somehow he's suddenly illegitimate and immaterial since Saban caught your coaching Hail Mary and we've had our 2nd bad year in 10?
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    well see that's the difference.
Alabama defines a bad year when you fail to do both of the following

    - win a NC, SECC, or win a BCS bowl
    - beat Auburn

so when looking for a coach, we look for a guy that can accomplish both. (Nick Saban)
what amazes me, is that Tuberville only accomplished both once in the 10 years he's been at Auburn. whats more, he only accomplished it once while he had no in-state competition due to Alabama struggling with probation and having a less-than mediocre HC.
and now, i really do wanna know, because i'm just curious as to what the Auburn fans' expectations are:
    1. Do you think Tuberville will ever be able to accomplish both on a regular basis while Nick Saban is coaching Alabama?
    2. Are you satisfied with keeping the iron bowl at least at 50/50 while Nick Saban is coaching Alabama?
    3. Are you satisfied with all seasons over .500?
    4. Are you only satisfied with seasons over .500, AND a win in the iron bowl.

    cuz here's the thing:
Tuberville may be able to accomplish #s 2 and 3. But as long as Nick Saban is coaching at Alabama, #s 1 and 4 will rarely, if ever, happen from this point on.

so if i'm an Auburn fan, here's what i'm thinking:
We need a big HC hire after this season. A hire that will make the cover of SI, a hire that will be discussed in every media outlet.
We need a HC that can at least do a respectable job in competing with Nick Saban.
We need to be looking at the future. not the "six-in-a-row," but we need to try to make sure we don't get six tallied on us.
    Who do we hire?
Lane Kiffin. Will Muschamp. the Peterson guy from Boise, Butch Davis, Mike Leach.
if you can't get any of those guys, then keep Tuberville.
but the bottom line is, Tuberville has always been a mediocre/above-average coach.
he never has been, and never will be a world-beater like Carrol, like Saban, like Meyer.
    unless you're okay with that.

sorry for this long post, but i don't know anyone from Auburn that i can intelligently talk football with. so i'm just curious as to what the view is.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
    [Edited]

I missed where you put "...or win a BCS bowl game."

    My bad.

    GO GATORS!!
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    im curious.
do you think we'll lose to Auburn? or to Pittsburgh?

because we'd have to lose to one ot those two teams in order to not accomplish both....

and watch out for those gamecocks this weekend. your gators could seriously screw up the BCS picture.
and don't tell me there's no chance of them winning. y'all already lost to Ole Miss....
and south carolina beat ole miss....
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
I'm quite confident that Bama will lose in Atlanta, to UF--not AU.

b/t/w: Pittsburgh? I don't get that at all.

    GO GATORS!!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Here's your line item response, BC:

Alabama defines a bad year when you fail to do both of the following

    - win a NC, SECC, or win a BCS bowl
    - beat Auburn

Now I'm no math major, but I see FOUR things there. Which BOTH are you talking about? Also, how many of those four would constitute a successful season for you?

    1. Do you think Tuberville will ever be able to accomplish both on a regular basis while Nick Saban is coaching Alabama? Yes. He's already done it previosuly. I see no reason why it can't be done while Saban is at UAT.

    2. Are you satisfied with keeping the iron bowl at least at 50/50 while Nick Saban is coaching Alabama? Absolutely. We're already batting 1.000, but I expect that average to go down some...

    3. Are you satisfied with all seasons over .500?Of course not, but we play you ONE time per year, not seven...

    4. Are you only satisfied with seasons over .500, AND a win in the iron bowl. We're not used to the former, and we've come to rely on the latter...

Look, no one's happy about this season, but few aren't willing to give Tubs a chance to right the ship. We have a bit more loyalty over on the Plains, or so I hope...
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    fair response.
by both, i meant, in the first one, accomplishing at least one of those, and then beating auburn.
i dont know, it may be my bias, but i've just never really thought too much of Tuberville as a football coach. he seems like a class act, and a great guy, but he just hasn't had much success in anything but the iron bowl. unless you wanna point to 1 SEC championship, and 1 BCS bowl win in 10 years at Auburn.
Fulmer had done more than that at Tennessee but, what have you done lately?
sometimes you've gotta reignite the fire within a program. i didn't realize this until we got Saban.
I think if Auburn fires Tuberville and hires a guy like Lane Kiffin, you'll see what i'm talking about.

  • "BC" · 1 year ago
good try. but i was just stating that both Weiss and Tuberville like to throw their OCs under the bus to try to save their own a**es.
i wasn't comparing the two coaches in any other areas.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
You made the comparison, not me...You're refining it only AFTER I pointed out the dissimilarities...

I should be the one saying good try...Giggle...

...and judging from your response about head coaches, why would you dog out an Auburn fan? You yourself JUST posted that you were HAPPY you threw coaches under the bus in exchange for a #1 ranking and Nick Saban...

You can deride others for doing it to coordinators, but you LAUD your University for doing the same thing with your Head Coaches?

You're all over the road here, BC...You need to stop drinking while posting...
  • "BC" · 1 year ago

you should definitely keep that out of your posts from now on.

Just a sidetrack for a second. I got banned from a Georgia blog this evening because I ate the snivelly little owner's lunch. The funny thing is that I was supposed to have a guest column on their site tomorrow for the big game this weekend. Guess this blows that gig out the window. You can read the comments at Dawg Sports, or I've provided a full transcript below. You be the judge:

Special Enmity for Auburn I have hated Auburn since I saw them beat our 9-0 football team in 1971. Pat Sullivan literally won the Heisman Trophy against us that day, 35-20. That MAY have been one of the luckiest days an athlete ever had in Sanford Stadium, with all the throws he made just as he was being sacked.

by Vinings Dog on Nov 11, 2008 11:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

What a coincidence... Bo Jackson literally won the Heisman that day in 1985, too, with around 180 yards and a 3 TD beatdown of the Dawgs in Sanford. Perhaps you’re upset because we never said thanks. Alas, 1985 was my first year picking hedges, and like any rookie is prone to do in such matters, I nearly tore off half a bush. However, I was able to perfect the craft when returning in ’87 and ’89.

by War Eagle Atlanta on Nov 12, 2008 3:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs

War Eagle Atlanta, I try to be hospitable to guests in my house . . . . . . but I strongly recommend that, if you’ve participated in that despicable practice on a visit to Sanford Stadium for which the statute of limitations has not yet expired, you keep it to yourself.

It’s called destruction of public property and it’s a crime. If visitors to our campus started ripping bricks out of the Tate Center, we wouldn’t tolerate it; we’d have the perpetrators arrested and prosecuted. Why we tolerate it in Sanford Stadium is beyond me, but the fact that we fail to press charges doesn’t make that act of vandalism any less criminal.

The next time you’re in Athens, keep your damn hands off of our hedges. That kind of cheap crap is why I hate Auburn.

by T Kyle King on Nov 12, 2008 4:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs

Bricks don't grow back... Hopefully you needn’t attend an Ag school to know that. Besides, that was half a lifetime for me. I’ve matured since then, unlike some of the commenters on here…

by War Eagle Atlanta on Nov 12, 2008 5:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs

No, but bricks can be repaired I’ll quote you the code section if you’d like, but what you did (three times, I might add) was a crime.

If we started throwing you sons of bitches in the Clarke County Jail for that crap, I bet y’all would mature in a great big hurry, but that’s exactly the kind of lawless nonsense I would expect from an institution that chooses to honor cheaters like Shug Jordan and Pat Dye.

by T Kyle King on Nov 12, 2008 8:02 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs

Why don't... …you personally enact a citizen’s arraist on me next year, Barney? Jesus, will you pull your panties back out of your crack on the hedges?

Just be thankful that you don’t have Florida at home every other year, or the shrubbery might look like a hurricane blew through it…

All right, that's it, War Eagle Atlanta I’ve put up with you long enough.

    You’re banned, asshole.

So the guy banishes me from commenting. Is he a tool or what? Maybe you guys should go over to the site and pass your own judgement. What kind of wuss tries to ban a guy from commenting because he can't come up with effective counter arguments?

UPDATE: My full retort can be seen here.

I am still waiting for the bad stuff that got you kicked off. Is that it? REALLY? What a pus.

Evidently, this guy is a botanist and is pretty protective of his 'children'...

Fanblogs regulars should go visit Dawg sports and pick some of his hedges...
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
That's weak. That dude was being a toolshed, and couldn't handle having a conversation with anyone who disagreed. Oh well, maybe you'll get the last laugh this weekend.
  • The_Observer · 1 year ago
That guy is fun to mess with! He gets soooo agitated!

He deleted one of my posts though. It wasn't profane or anything, I guess he can't handle any ridicule.

I guess that I have taken Fanblogs for granted because I can't believe that one guy uses his Moderator powers to ban folks and delete posts at will and for no reason other than not being a Georgia fan.

I would like to take a moment and thank Kevin and everyone else that contributes to this site for allowing anyone and everyone to post freely.
  • The_Observer · 1 year ago
The post he deleted went something like this...

    T. Kyle: "Daddy, he touched my hedges!"

    T. Kyles Dad: "Well son, that was 20 years ago."

    T. Kyle: "I don't care, it makes me soooo angry!"

    T. Kyles Dad: "Stop being a pansy."

    T. Kyle: "Oooh, I love pansies!"

Seriously, why would he delete that?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
LMAO!!! OMG! That's hilarious! Dude, you have to go post that comment over here.

Isn't it funny how he thought you were an Auburn fan?
  • The_Observer · 1 year ago
I did post it...and he promptly deleted it! That guy is something else.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
No, that's not a link to their site, it's a link to my retort on Track Em Tigers, where I tell the story. Go post on that!

"...if you’ve participated in that despicable practice on a visit to Sanford Stadium for which the statute of limitations has not yet expired..."

LOL! The SOL hasn't expired on a misdemeanor vadalism....going on 20 years?!?!
('89 being the most recent). Oh, I'm pretty sure that window probably closed some time ago.

I can however, appreciate the guy taking a stand against vandalism--certanily not condoning it...the 'dawgs do have a profound appreciation for 'dem hedges....

...but banning you from the site was clearly excessive; it wasn't like you were advocating doing it today.

    GO GATORS!!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
His profile says that he's an attorney, so I guess he was trying to scare me with that SOL crap. Sorry, scheister. Please don't throw me into that briar patch... I could have burned the whole campus down and the statute of limitations would be up.

Can't you see me getting arrested for a 23 year old shrubbery charge?

Arresting officer: Are you Greg 'War Eagle Atlanta' Goodwin?

WEA: You got me. You caught the Eagle...
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I too ripped some hedge back in 1984 (GT 35, UGA 18) and a cop caught me and told me "congratulations on the win, now git on outta here!" So, I doubt you would ever see the inside of the Athens lockup for assault of a shrubbery.

I'll post a response there soon. I noticed he violated his own community policy regarding profanity in responding to you. Some people can't take any heat and those folks really shouldn't open threads titled "I HATE <whatever>".
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
The tune has changed. He came on Track em Tigers to apologize. It's really taken off on both sites. The original post, I hate Auburn, was done by a commenter and not the editor, but the effect was the same.

I refrain from childish commentary like that. All you do is inflame the situation...

    WEA:

Do they only impregnate their sisters in Alabama? I thought that they did that in Georgia also. What's the "skinny" on that anyway? I liked your reference to "Barney". I was already imagining that this guy has his dickies pulled all the way up to his armpits, white socks with black Buster Browns, frantically dialin' for emergency assistence - all the while tryin' to hold his own with a keyboard. Funny stuff there. You remember Lady Bird Johnson? Remember how she used to pronounce "Schruuuib"? You should have left that "Schruuuib" alone.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I dunno, Tommy, I'm from Georgia. Maybe I impregnated that guy's sister somewhere down the line. Banning me? I get along famously with fans from all schools. I updated my full retort above...

You like that Citizen's arraist, huh?
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    WEA:

That's probably it. The guy's got an illegitimate nephew, who's mom mounted some War Eagle from Georgia, somewhere "just on the other side of the hedges". Of course, that's not gonna be the story that she could have told her family. So she probably had ripped off a piece of those hedge rows, tore herself up as good as she could have, and went home and told her momma that some guy had beaten her down with some shrubs and forced himself on her. Your buddy "T Kyle" must have "lapped it up" like a stray dog would gettin' ahold of the kitten's milk dish. He's probably got you pegged as "the guy who dun did that to my sister".
