Fanblogs.com: JoPa passes Bowden on all-time wins list

  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Penn State looks strong. They might be strong enough to win the Big Televen.

Florida State, or anyone else for that matter, will never win with that many turnovers. It looks like Bobby will have to hang around past this year if he intends to reclaim the record.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Under no circumstances should Bobby be allowed to fly on the same airplane as Joe, lest it crash and the results have to stand for all of eternity...
  • Chris · 1 year ago
JoePa will always hold the record for the most Div 1-A victories.....which are the only ones that count. Ol' Bobby shouldn't be allowed to count his 33 wins at Samford as Div. 1-A victories. Won't matter anyway, FSU will struggle again this year and Penn State will continue to roll. Plus, another bad season for FSU will most certainly make Jimbo Fisher the head coach next year.

Gentlemen, even if all the other coaches counted the the really small schools that they have played, they still could not match Bobby or Joe. Bear Bryant even have some wins against small schools as well. Neither of these schools would be where they are today, if they had not been coaching. Honestly, both of them could still have 3 or 4 more losing seasons, and still have more wins than any other coach, I think these coaches were both great at one time, and their past record, they rate to have a few bad seasons. And the way head coaching has became a revolving door now, I don't believe noone will come close to catching either of them. However, in my opinion, I think both should have stepped down 3 or 4 years ago. But I can understand why the Atheletic Directors would want to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this again:

Joe Paterno is college football's version of Bernie from the movie "Weekend At Bernie's"...

Getting credit for games where you "coach" from the booth? What EXACTLY did Paterno do to influence that victory?

It's a disgrace to the game, and a testament to his unmitigated ego, nevermind his overbearing sense of hubris, that this man is still involved with that football program...

He brings a name and credibility to recruiting.

Part of good leadership is knowing when to delegate. While his assistants may have more influence during game time I am certain he still holds them accountable for their performance.

This all applies to Bowden as well. As for them being a figurehead coach, perhaps it may be worthwhile to direct some of their pay to the eventual replacements.

Something has to be said for a coach who chooses to stay at a program and make it great rather than jump to the biggest name program they can find to step into an already great situation.

Joe Paterno is a joke, and he was a joke in the past, and he's been a joke for some time now...

Joe Paterno hasn't made one game defining or game changing decision in years...

    You heard me...

He's a joke, and he degrades the record he's so vainly attempting to attain and maintain...

Seriously? You obviously are barely shaving and have little knowledge of football histroy. Your blog barely deserves this response.
  • Lions1 · 1 year ago
There are those who are detractors from Joe. Most of them haven't ever set foot on an NCAA-1 college football field to play or coach a single down of football.

Say what you will about this man and this program. More than 80% of Penn State's football players graduate....and if you are the Tiger I think you are, less than 50% of your players graduate.

Are you the same dude who claimed JoePa was a closet racist awhile back and that you had proof and that you were going to post it ... But, Never Did?!?!?!?!

Was your hatred of JoePa taught to you by your parents or did you develop it on your own?

Any psych will tell you that the root of hatred is fear....are you afraid of old men? LOL

WELL, I GUESS MR. TIGEREDUCATED DID NOT STUDY HOW COACHING FOOTBALL WORKS. IF YOU KNEW ANYHING ABOUT COACHING YOU WOULD KNOW THAT THE COACHING IS IN THE PREPERATION PRIOR TO THE GAME AND IF YOU PREPARE YOURSELF PROPERLY (INCLUDING SUMMER AND CONDITIONING, FILM STUDY ETC.) YOU WOULD KNOW THAT JOE COULD COACH FROM IS HOUSE WHICH IS BLOCKS FROM THE STADIUM.

    thank you
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
He probably would, but his Clapper and Life Alert don't have that kind of range...

    T.E.,
How is Paterno coaching from the booth of any less an influence than Charlie Weis coaching from the buffet line at Sizzler?
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Don't even get me started with "Front Butt Cinch It" Weis...

He's a cross between Biff Tannon on Back to the Future, and Pizza The Hut from Spaceballs...

Paterno is also closing in on Methuselah. I think that the only way that him and BB ever stop coaching is if they were both involved in a plane crash. I also think that they should both retire. The game has passed them by. Maybe, Al Davis could can Lane Kiffen, and bring Paterno in. Maybe there might finally be harmony in the Raider front office - provided that they don't both wake up at the same time and start fighting over the channel changer.

It was quite sobering to watch FSU's offense this past game. I was a major supporter of firing Jeff Bowden -- but 2 years later -- I see no discernible difference between our current offense and Jeff's.

Zero discipline. We go out and get West Virginia's OL coach. It changes nothing. How many years in a row have we had a crappy OL? 5+? How do you manage to have a shitty OL for this many years? It completely baffles me.

Nothing on offense is relevant if you don't have an offensive line. You can't run and you can't pass. You can't blame either of our QB's or HB's for anything that occurred in this game.

I'm not calling for Jimbo's head yet -- I don't think he's had long enough to turn things around... But with that said... at the end of this year.. if we have managed to remain this bad...I will lean on history history and ask you to find out how many times a "succesful coach" inherited a crappy team and during their 2nd year on the job, managed to keep the team equally as crappy as when they inherited it.

How many times has that happened? I don't recall it ever happening.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Dude...Jimbo wasn't an impact on the 1st class, but the most recent one, yes...Give that OL time to develop depth and talent...It doesn't happen overnight...

I saw a difference, this was the worst game florida state has played for as long as I can remember!! I ask..: What ACC team would lose to Wake forest with wake only scoring 12 points.... The last I can think of was the ACC championship game they won but still at least that didn't look like a fierce game of powderpuff football. I doubt the even improve... I'm ready to give up personally (I had 9 good years and 7 awful ones as a fan). I'm thinking maybe this team can pull off a win next week and will then proceed to lose all of the other games they play for the rest of the season! 0-8 ACC. We will be the new Duke...

    Divorcing the noles!!

I really didnt get to see either game, and give props to Kev for this thread topic.
Coach Joe P is a living legend and he's done more than most posters on any thread.
Sure the guy is old -so-what, just pray that you live to that age, or have the creditability and history in CFB that this man has forged.
Until one of these guys either retires or bites the dust, we as fans can live on and enjoy the game that these men dedicated their lives to.
    Adios Tomcat
Just remember than youth is temporary and these guys know CFB- and we arent getin any younger
    Hookem-Horns
BTW Is Tulsa under the radar ?
