They still have Calvin Johnson, whom I'm sure you remember. But what did that get them? And I'm definitely not knocking him. He's bad to the bone as well....he's just in the same situation I think Crab will find himself in.
Personally, if I'm playing the GM role, I'd be racking my brain on the choice of what I want and what I NEED. But I'd have to take Stafford.

When you have a top flight WR on the edge, you can rev the offense with a good QB and a journeyman quality TE far more quickly than with just two WR's on the edge. You challenge the defense to defend more of the field on passing downs with both of those players in patterns.
The quarterback's also going to have a more lasting impact, and you can always bring in younger wideouts later if Calvin Johnson leaves to go contract chasing in a few years.
Just my $0.02...but, you take a QB way before you take Crabtree, if you're Detroit.
Emphasis on if you're Detroit.
Chase Clement QB from Rice
Jarret Dillard WR from Rice
LSU has a Chase Clement too. He played tight end at ED White High School in my hometown of Thibodaux, La. I think LSU wants to use him at DE though. Interesting though, he's the nephew of Thibodaux native, LSU grad and Detroit Lion blocker for Barry Sanders, the late Eric Andolsek....who was tragically killed in the prime of his career during the offseason while weed eating his front yard when the driver of an 18 wheeler fell asleep at the wheel.
But we pronounce it Clay-maw. I"m sure Rice's Clement is pronounced as it's spelled.

Ingredients:
1 - sm onion diced fine
1/2 bell pepper diced fine
1 - stalk celery...you guessed it....diced fine
2 - pods garlic, crushed (or you can buy it allready crushed....then it's 1 tsp.
1 - lb crawfish tails
1/2 pint half and half cream
1/2 pint milk
1 - tsp corn starch
1/2 cap crab boil
Tony Chacerie's to taste
1/2 stick of butter
Parsley flakes
Start by putting the corn starch in a cup with 1/2 cup cold water. Wisk it until it's all diluted. Set it on the side. Melt the butter in a saucepan on medium to low heat. Add the onions, bell pepper, celery and garlic and cook on med heat until veggies are soft. Drop in the crawfish tails, fat and all, the crab boil and a lite sprinkle of Tony's and cook for 10-15 min, still on med to low heat. Add half and half cream and milk. Drop the heat to low, stirring constantly. Cook this until mixture starts to slightly thicken...usually takes app 15 min. Keep stirring...but never let it boil. Add the corn starch mixture and dust lightly with parsley flakes and go up to medium heat. It should really start to thicken now. Keep stirring until it gets to the consistency you want. Occasionally taste it to see if it has the flavor you want. Add more Tony's if needed. Want a little more heat...just a touch of cayenne pepper will do. Once it gets to where it's not soupy anymore, turn it off. It should be thick enough where it just barely goes thru the holes in your cooking spoon.
And laissez les bon ton roulette.

BTW I happen to have bout 5lbs of jumbo gulf shimp and gonna give it a try-thanks
I was going to peelem-devainem and put on the grill wrapped in bacon etc.
We do alot of cool stuff- cut out the seeds of large fresh Japealenos stuffem with deer sausage or cheese wrapem in bacon etc etc. I like to have some shrimp, japalenos, bell pepper, onion, deer sausage etc etc and just get creative- Yall do stuffed chicken thighs with onion & peppers?sometimes we just stand around snacking and sampling and wash it down with our favoritve beverage- hows that for hyjack-LOL
thanks adios Tomcat
Another good one is to filet a pork tenderloin open until it's flat. Stuff it with damn near anything (I usually use loose fresh cajun sausage), roll it back up and wrap it in bacon. Secure with toothpicks. Drop it on a hot pit and fry the bacon. When the bacon is cooked, take it off and wrap it in foil and put it away from the heat on the pit for about an hour. Once it's cooked, I'll slice it into 1/2 thick pieces (it'll have a nice pin-wheel look to it) and drizzle the crawfish and cream sauce over it. Make you slap yo mama and dare your daddy to get up....lol

And I was wondering how you were gonna find crawfish tails....lol. Oklahoma isn't exactly known for 'em. How much did you pay for 'em, if you don't mind me asking?

been kinda busy lately put a new transem in my boat- original was 1 inch cedar, replaced with 2 inch pine, I'm going to put some more polyerathane on the wood, might not be perfect, but its better than the old rotten one- heck the fish wont know the difference.
Off season thread hyjacks-

LOL about off-season thread hijacks. Maybe we should take this to the Open Thread before Kev slaps us on the wrist with his proverbial ruler!

He is actually alot like Tebow except stronger and tougher.
Casey will defenitly land somewhere and make an impact.
BTW sorry to hear about the late Andolsek from Thibodaux
Anybody that picks up those guys, especially Casey, wil get their money's worth. Pleny of upside and versatility.
Erik's death hit alot of us hard. He's was Thibodaux's favorite son. Pro bowler....blocking for none other than Barry friggin Sanders (who, IMO, is the best running back ever). His brother Andy rides right next to me on our Mardi Gras float every year. Class acts.

Imagine what White could do if he had WR's such as Tech's Crabtree; and NC's, Hakeem Nicks. Now, one could refute all this, given reports from practice week at the Sr. Bowl. Well, let me ask you guys this. How long does it take for a QB to get on the same page with WR's, TE's, and RB's, the likes of whom he's never thrown to? I would think you'd need a little more than a week. Besides, there's still game time, and that hasn't happened yet. If he manages to adapt and do well, I think he should be given a shot.
No, not equally notable. Much more notable, and his news much more impressive than the rest of the guys on the list.

LSU returned 1st team All-SEC WR Brandon LaFell (900+ yards receiving with garbage at QB, and lead the league with 8 TD's receiving), as well as our 3 year starter RS Senior LT Ciron Black, as well as 2nd team (arguably 1st team if we had a QB that didn't throw games away) RB in Charles Scott.
We have our QB, and we have the most dynamic kid at the QB position in America this year out of HS in Houston Cy-Ridge's Russell Shepard already enrolled and in S&C workouts along with 7 on 7 drills in the Off-season workouts.
We are freaking loaded for bear, and are well on our way to signing the #1 recruiting class in America.
Get ready, folks.

Rueben Randle has told Alabama-flat out-he ain't coming.
It's either Norman or Baton Rouge.
His brother has been on a "crappy" website (The one that Tommie Trojan went and quoted from...You know the ONE message board that your fanbase cringes and/or laughs at when an opponent copies & pastes from it?) and has also indicated that RR's LSU bound.
Supposedly, Rueben's family has gotten tired of telling the staff no, and has stopped taking their calls, to a large degree.
I'll put it to you like this...
Rueben & his entire family came down-on their own dime-yesterday afternoon to get a feel for LSU without all the recruits in town (we're hosting somewhere between 16-20).
They are LSU, if you ask me...Though Stoops may pull a rabbit out of his hat.
I think it came down to two things for Randle. It's always been, where would I go if I don't go to LSU?
1.) Alabama has garbage at quarterback. They are signing a guy that they "thought" would project into a 5 star QB in AJ McCarron. He ran for his life all year behind a bad OL, and also didn't put on ANY weight. At the Army HS All-American game, it also hurt when AJ had a very poor showing and was off-target even in the game on a few throws to Randle.
2.) Bradford won't be there after next year, period.
Those two things are basically sewing the decision up for LSU. He was always a heavy lean to us, especially going into his senior year, but we stumbled to 8-5, had QB issues, and then Alabama & OU had great seasons.
The best thing that could've happened to us, however, is Jordan Jefferson's emergence in the Arkansas & Chik-Fil-A Bowl Game against Georgia Tech. That really helped make his decision for him. Solidifying QB here went a long way.
Just my $0.02.
Oh, and Bama fans...Your centerpiece recruit is coming down here, with his mother, and his brother. His brother plays football for Louisiana-Lafayette, and has always been a father figure to Trent, and they are going to spend some time together this weekend.
We also had a 4* kid out of Navasota, Texas, jilt us and enroll at Oklahoma State today as an early enrollee. So, we opened up a RB spot....
You might need to start worrying right now...
What are you babbling about now? I don't even read from football websites - let alone post any comments on them. I haven't even mentioned a single southern recruit on here. And, I certainly never mentioned anything about any football websites. Like, I always trip out that you guys are constantly babbling about recruits this and that, and nothin' is gonna be real until they sign. So, who really cares? And, after all of that, half of them are never even gonna play here. So what?
Appropriate that you'd go and "copy & paste" from a place like dat.
But, regardless, if you don't have the memory and the ability to stay on task, in terms of the discussion, then please stop trying to make it about you.
Egocentrism doesn't suit you.
Your an A-Hole! And a complete moron. I don't even know what "Tiger Dropping's" are. Never been to the site. Never read the site. And, could care less about the site. You must have gotten me mistaken with somebody else. I don't read about Southern football or any football. I actually watch them play the games. That's the big difference between me and you.
rueben randle IS going to lsu. everyone has known that for a while.
trent richardson?? you wish
dre kirkpatrick?? same
DJ Fluker?? same
Nico Johnson?? same
Rod Woodson?? same
LSU may very well be #1 in recruiting this year, but alabama will still finish top 5, and guess what??
we have Nick Saban. LSU has Les Miles?? that shmuck with the unusual michigan accent???
Im just glad at this point to get some top recruit attention. May help in the future.
He's not making a decision like this based on one position coach.
He's also not going anwyhere without decent QB play.
Sorry, Auburn, but he's not playing college ball in the state of Alabama unless he's on the visiting team.
As far as i can remember thats never happened.
I said 1 &2 because it looks like Bryce Brown may visit next week along with Randle.
Also the #2 QB in the country is visiting this week and we actually have a real good shot at him. Tyrik Rollison.
Either way when high profile guys look closly at your school its a step in the right direction.
Our defense is loaded with talent. We had some terrible coaching and schemes last year. We didn't disguise SH!T pre-snap, and we generated zero line pressure. Now, some of that lack of pressure was a result of some injuries, but a lot of it was terrible coaching. I've never seen a team that had less gap control discipline. I've honestly never seen teams run stunts and twists so...undisciplined...
Out of their lanes, not playing responsibility. It was terrible. You couple that with our 4 year starter at LB getting a knee sprain early on, and never recovering, and it hurt us.
It was a perfect storm on defense.
On offense, we had a terrible situation at quarterback. Jarret Lee was bad. Hell, he would've been bad without the 7 pick 6's. But, guys...He gave up 42 points for the defense, without them ever having to set foot on the damn field!
We lost to Georgia 52-38, and Lee threw them 14 points, plus threw another pick backed up in his own territory that they kicked a field goal off of after taking a shot and running it up the gut twice. That's 17 points of turnovers, and that's the game.
The Alabama game was completely winnable, as was Arkansas (Both lost at the end of regulation or in overtime). With TERRIBLE defense and TERRIBLE/inconsistent quarterback play.
If we had more to play for, or a better scheme, perhaps Ole Miss would've been different as well.
But, having said that, we had three games right there that a defense and/or the right break could've won for us. Bad coaching and Ryan Perrilloux was the difference between another 11-2 year for LSU, or the 8-5 that we suffered through.
We're bringing in Chavis to run our defense (ask Bama_Babe...their defense was STOUT this year, and it has been with much less higher quality talent in comparison to Baton Rouge the past few years). He's finished in the Top 3 in the SEC in total defense 9 times in 13 years as DC. Impressive stuff.
We also brought in Ron Cooper from USC. He has Spurrier's secondary playing at a very high level. They were the 2nd ranked pass defense in FBS last year. He put a few players into the League, like Captain Munnerlyn this year, for example.
At the DL spot, Lovie Smith had Brick Haley coaching his Defensive Line. But, when Rod Marinelli of the Detroit Lions got canned, he felt a sense of loyalty to the guy. Marinelli gave Lovie Smith his first job in the NFL, and Marinelli's background is also on the DL. Lovie Smith wanted to make room for both, but when the Riviera guy didn't leave as DC to take a HC job in the NFL, Haley expressed some interest in the LSU job, and Smith personally recommended him.
I'm quite pleased with the teachers we've hired, and Cooper as a recruiter is especially outstanding.
This staff has some top flight recruiters already in Miles, Recruiting Coordinator/TE's Coach Josh Henson, and 2007 Rivals Recruiter of the Year/RB Coach Larry Porter. With Cooper on board, we've brought in another guy to replace what we lost on the recruiting trail and improve the teaching.
Must have fallen completely off the map to make this statement: "I think we're an SEC Contender next year...". Not sure? Well, I think you'll be alright. Try a little blind faith. Maybe you should pray about it...
Until then, be happy with those rings that say "7 Straight Pac-10 National Titles" while teams from the SEC keep racking up multiple BCS Championships.
Have a great day, TT...
What happened? You get mad because you lost more games last year than we have in the last three? Or, is it because your complete flop of a year, proved that you didn't even deserve to be in a MNC game in 07? So, now you've lost seven games in two years, and we haven't lost that many in the last seven years - or are we tied? You couldn't hold our jock, boy!
Alabama? probably a 30%
Florida? probably a 40%
Ole Miss? a 10%
yall remember Bama's badass defense last year?
we're only losing 2 players from it. we're adding Dre Kirkpatrick at CB to completely shut down Rueben Randle and AJ Green (all 3 will start in the NFL as rookies)
bama's offense? we'll finally have a QB that is accurate and can make quick decisions. i expect him to make some quick mistakes as well, but Julio Jones will finally get a ball in stride. i know he and i will both enjoy that.
oh yeah, and Trent Richardson. youtube him.
like ya know how our offense in '08 was all possession and game management, etc.?
this year it will be big plays and big mistakes. id say an 8/2 ratio.
it will be just as effective as in '08, but more fun to watch.
i cant wait for 2009.
there isn't really a team to watch for next year.
Florida is probably the pre-season favorite
Georgia, Alabama, and LSU will all have new QBs
Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Tennessee are the dark horses.

Oh, and updated coaching rankings:
Urban Meyer
Nick Saban
Lane Kiffin / Monte Kiffin / Ed Orgeron (this will be interesting...)
Houston Nutt (imagine what this guy could do at a place like ND...)
Mark Richt
Bob Petrino
Steve Spurrier
Les Miles (it's hard to rank les miles because he's a great charlitan (recruiter), is reallllly lucky, but a terrible coach. can you really put the guy over an ex-NFL HC and/or steve spurrier?)
Bobby Johnson (almost put him above Miles. he's got the least ammount of talent in the SEC every year and is starting to get bowl eligible. Les Miles is the exact opposite haha)
Rich Brooks
Dan Mullen (jury is still out. he's new at this but 0-0 is better than 5-19 IMO)
Gene Chizik (only HC in the SEC with a losing career record and no bowl victories)
How can you count Chase Clement Tomcat? He is out of eligibility.
These boys played for a small school in a mid major conference, so they generally dont get the recognition of players in the B-12 ,ACC or SEC, but they could have started anywhere and that guy Casey is one heck of a player, too bad they couldn't play one more year, they were fun to watch and had the chemistry down pat.
Isdaner was part of what was touted early on as being one of the best and deepest offensive lines in the country. Other than the Meineke Bowl & perhaps against Auburn, WVU's offensive line didn't look all that good, in my opinion. Consider how WVU consistently had trouble converting on 3rd & short. Not to mention, two of the SR's on the line are eligible for a 5th year. Given how poorly they distinguished themselves this past year, as compared with the last two, I think they should come back for their last year of eligibility. Given they will not, in my opinion, they're in for a lot of disappointment.
