If somebody parks in my spot at the house, I get pissed.

Leach is an attorney. I'm assuming he can read a contract. He can probably say it as well as his mouthpiece, too.

I guess Leach will get Myers' parking spot now...

Yes it is pretty obvious that Myers is a bean counter and the ASCO deal was ridiculas and an embarrassment for the athletic dept and the university. The funds were to be used for Leach's camps and clinics, but the AD wanted the funds for other things and the offer was withdrawn-stupid sh-t. Kevin provided some good links to whats going on in Lubbock. Myers needs to provide Leach with the resourses to compete with the big boys like OU,Neb,UT and A&M who provide their players and coaches everything including the nutritional meals so that they can compete at the highest level. Leach is doing everything that he can to help the university and its football program and has been very successful dispite the internal B/S that he has to contend with caused by egotistical idiots who control the purse strings.
Glad they finally reached an agreement and the Texas Tech football program will benefit and continue to be successful under the leadership of head coach Mike Leach.

Myers could remain in office, but it definitely signifies Leach drinking Myers' milkshake.

Back in late November 2000, UNC nearly hired Frank Beamer away from Virginia Tech after a subtle power struggle between him and recently-hired AD Jim Weaver went bad. As the story goes, after the UNC deal broke, *previous* VT president Paul Torgersen (who had retired that January and remained very well-respected in Blacksburg) was called by high-dollar *academic* donors to negotiate directly with Beamer, on the grounds that this power struggle was embarrassing the university. Once the two of them had reached a deal, the new president (a former Torgersen underling) was called in to formalize things. Weaver was the last guy let in on the deal, and his position in the hierarchy was pretty well-established from then on.

Interesting. I'm an ACC fan through and through but had no idea about that ever occurring.

Of course the time would be a fall during my college years. So maybe I did hear about it, but was too drunk to retain it. Who knows. Either way, cool story.

This whole thing blows my mind honestly. It really is quite embarrassing for Texas Tech, and I would imagine that schools recruiting against them will freely use this against them.

The parking spot quip is BS, Knight was hired in 01, and left a couple of years ago. Plus Leach's office is closer to two miles away from Knight's old office (yes, it's a very big campus and the B ball court is on the opposite side from the Football field.)

All that happened here was egos, plain and simple. Mix in sports agents and it became a class A clusterfook. Glad they got him resigned.

Ahhhh Sooooo, the plot thickens! They took away Leach's parking spot and gave it to Knight, who would only use it on football game days. Leach's new space was probably only one space further away from his old space/Knight's new space. In other words, he pulls up next to his old space, which is always empty. Empty, but reserved for Coach Knight! Grrrrr.........Arrrrrrrrrr....., this is bullshit man! Naturally, he is good and plenty, pissed off. He parks in the commuter lot and stomps off some anger. Every single time he takes his new, long ass walk to work, he curses under his breath, every step of the way..

News is coming out this weekend about the details of Leach's agreement with Tech. The salary remains as per the previous understanding - $12.7 million - ranking him roughly third in the Big XII (tied with Mangino and Pinkel).

Both sides compromised on the four sticking points, as detailed by the Lubbock Avalanche - Journal.

    - Instead of guaranteeing $1.5 million if Leach was fired, Tech upped the payout to $2 million.

    - Tech dropped the buyout if Leach leaves from $500,000 to zero.

    - Leach may interview anywhere he wishes without penalty, but he must notify Tech in advance of any meetings with other schools.

    - Tech will gain the right to market Leach for uniform, apparel, television, and radio contracts, but Leach will be able to pursue books, writings, and other items presented to him by his agents.

Good to see Tech come to their senses, especially in light of Leach backing down on his $15 million salary request.

I was about to ask the silly question, "What is it between HC's & a$$-hole AD's?" But, I think I already know the answer. Again, it all comes down to money, as in how much the average AD makes, by comparison to his school's respective HC.

I want you to imagine this for a moment. You're the AD for your alma mater. You earn, oh, say, $250,000/yr. You're the one who hired the HC, whose basketball team won a NC, and the one who hired the HC, whose football team won a NC, among other proven to be good hires. The BB HC makes a cool $1.0 M/yr; the FB HC makes about $2.0 M/yr.

Now, these guys work for you. Yet, between them, they make as much money in one year as you'll make in 12. Not to mention, you're responsible for their respective team's budgets, as well as those budgets for all the rest of the teams over which your department presides. So, I can understand why a given school's AD might be a little reluctant to give the FB HC even a $250 K/yr raise, let alone double that.

In my opinion, the money poured into these schools should be going towards the educations of the attending students, not into the coffers of already inflated coaches' salaries. Coaches like Pete Carol, Mike Leach, Urban Meyer, Bobby Petrino, Rich Rodriguez, and Nick Saban (among others) should each get down on their knees every night and show thanks to whichever deity they worship for all which has been given them.

OK, I'm off the soap box. Glad they could reach an agreement. I did enjoy Tech's success, and I hope it continues.
