Fanblogs.com: Looking ahead: 2008-2009 Bowl Game Predictions

  • elgringoflaco · 1 year ago
A bowl game! We'll take it!

    Go Canes!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Since we can't seem to win a BCS bowl, I would be glad to trade places with Texas just so we can play the turttle neck......
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Yeah, I'll make that trade. Texas doesn't lose bowl games anymore. It doesn't matter who we play or which assisstant "touches" the ball while it's still in play.

Also, TTU in BCS bowl? As Shooter McGavin would say, "Yeah, and Grizzly Adams had a beard!"
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
You would like Oklahoma to trade with Texas? I do not like to see Oklahoma lose BCS bowls BUT it's better than seeing them in the Holiday or Alamo Bowls. It looks like there will be no BCS Bowl for Texas this year! CRIMSON & CREAM TRUE! Your Big XII Champions not for the FIF time the SICKS time. Can you say SICKS. Maybe your National Champions!

if Ohio state goes to another undeserved BCS championship game i'm going to start burning every buckeye tree i can find.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
    They grow on tree's ???????
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I thought they grew in the ground like peanuts, myself...
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Wonder if you can control them with pesticides.....
  • Zac · 1 year ago
And every part of the tree & nut is poisonous.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
No, Ron, but you can eradicate them with a SEC team in a bowl game. Oh!

    Sorry, Tom Blogical...
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Why would you be sorry about telling the truth?
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
    OOOOOOOOOOOO SNAP!......goes the tree hahaha
  • IBleedOrange · 1 year ago
Yeah, they've got UT going to the Outback Bowl vs Penn St again. I sure hope they're wrong.

tOSU shoud be banned from the NC Game for at least the next two seasons. They've already proven themselves unworthy.
  • buck-eye-holics · 1 year ago
what has your team proved besides not making the national championship game?we'll be there again cause we'll run the table
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Pulling against it, but you're probably right. For one very rare occasion, I will actually be
pulling for USC--in order to knock tOSU out of the race--it could be our only hope.

Nothing personal; I'm still salivating over USC v. SEC Champ (whomever it may be) for all the marbles, and we've kinda' already seen tOSU v. SEC Champ in the NC-game....by now, we all have a pretty good idea how that one ends.

    GO GATORS!!
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Yeah, let's just not even throw in Big XII teams. I mean, it's not like they got three teams into the top 5 last year and then knock each other out of the race. Not saying that last year means anything this year, but it does seem like there is a lack of respect for the Big XII.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Leave it to Bevo (of all Big-12 fans) to forget what happened in the Fiesta Bowl.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Touche. Would it help if I threw in a clause to discredit all OU BCS bowl games?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
OU should be included in the OSU BCS ban.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
As soon as another team claims the conference championship, until then, we will be in Arizona.....
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
OK, the BCS ban obviously must be lifted if they win the conference, but in that case it should be a championship ban
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
So if OU goes undefeated, according to you, they shouldn’t play for the championship.

Don’t you think a team can improve from year to year, or is it because Stoops hasn’t won a BCS bowl, doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it….
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Ok, you win. I am unfairly biased against Oklahoma.

At least We can agree to not like Texas
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Glad we can agree on something...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Hold up, Mister Prather! Let Utah make it to another BCS Bowl before you make a statement like that!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
If banning from BCS is based on performance once they get their, show me another team with an average BCS bowl margin of victory over 20 points.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Teams are selected to BCS Bowls mainly do to their fans "traveling well'. Margin of victory? What does that have ta do with it. How many BCS bowls Da' Utes have been to?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
One, and sold their share of tickets plus about a dozen thousand tickets Pittsburgh was unable to sell.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Yes, I remember that 35-7 win! I have nothing against you or the Utes BUT you are criticizing Oklahoma's performance and I am sure that you would love to see Utah make it to the total Oklahoma has:6. Oklahoma has been to all 4. They have lost 4 in a row but they made 'em!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I'd like to see Utah vs OU
maybe yall can meet them in a bowl
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
It should have happened in 2004, ask any Auburn fan
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
This has been hashed and rehashed many times, but... Auburn screwed themselves. They **chose** to schedule a piss poor OOC schedule while knowing full well that they would take a hit for strength of schedule.
  • T-Bone · 1 year ago
That goes for any team that won't step up and play a bon a fide opponent. They are ripping off the fans and tv networks that have to watch/broadcast that crap.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Ok, 2-4 vs 1-0. Utah is 7-0 in their last 7 Bowl games.

If you are getting to bowl games you can't win, you and your conference are over rated. How does Oklahoma consistently get ranked higher than they really ought to be?

7 BCS teams per year vs 1 non BCS team per year.

A non BCS team getting there is more significant than a BCS team getting there.

2004, Oklahoma got to the title game when Auburn should have.
Oklahoma should have played Utah in the Fiesta Bowl in 2004.

Since then I have had a strong anti-Oklahoma bias.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Ben Prather...you are starting to sound worse than 1Tomcat. First of all, Oklahoma is competing in BCS Bowls Utah isn't. The teams Oklahoma faced were alot better than Utah's opponents were in the lower teir bowls, fact! Second, Voters and committees decide who plays in the BCS Bowls. It is not based on rather a team earned or deserved to be there, FACT! In 2004 Oklahoma was reward the spot and the National Title game because strength of schedule was factored in and Auburn played a Division 1-AA school, FACT! That was why strength of schedule is supposed to have not matter in determining who plays for the National Title from now on. Third of all, Oklahoma plays a better non-conference and conference schedule than Utah. I am NOT saying in no way shape or form that the Big 12 is better than the Mountain West BUT Brigham Young, Utah, and Texas Christian DOES NOT HAVE the same thump behind it as Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. Doggone it Colorado is most likely going to make headlines in the Big 12 this year. I know you love you team BUT you are going on feelings instead of facts. Until Oklahoma and Utah meet head to head...going on past bowl win/loses is useless and meaningless. Gee, Oklahoma lost to West Virginia and Utah beat whomever in their bowl last year. If Utah would have played Oklahoma they would have won. See how silly that sounds!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Utah and Oklahoma met on 09-17-1977.

    Oklahoma won 62-24.

Its good to be a cupcake.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I read on an Oklahoma "UNOFFICIAL" webpage that they were interested in playing Utah or Brigham Young. What I have seen is Utah State and Texas Christian on the schedules SO it appears to be rumor so far!

  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Ben You and your conference are
    overated.While granted I dislike OU
more than you do, but I wouldnt run
down the entire conference based upon one
teams recent bowl record. Texas has
4 straight bowl wins and won 6 outa 7
    including 2 BCS bowls.
Ya Okay Ben your right the B-12 is
overated having 4 yeams finish in the top
ten. I know you dislike Texas and thats okay
You and I both dislike OU so we have something
in common. How do you like Arkansas?
2004 Was very unusual and a playoff
format would have ended all the B/S
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Wow, I have seemed to have accidentally picked a fight here.

The voters and committees decide the entire Bowl line up. The stated goal is to provide quality games of fairly matched teams. Conference alignments are set in advance and should reflect roughly how strong one conference is to another.

Take the Las Vegas Bowl: MWC #1 vs PAC 10 #4-5. This is about where most people state the MWC shoud fairly be. The MWC consistently win that game, in fact they have had a winning bowl record 4 out of the last 5 years, and have been filling bowl spots other conferences could not. The MWC #1 is closer to the PAC 10 #3. I would argue this is close to #4 in the Big 12.

The MWC gets lower bowls than the Big 12 because they are a weaker conference. No argument on that. The MWC consistently wins their bowls, so they not as weak as the bowl committees think.

    Year: MWC vs Big 12
    2007: 4-1 vs 5-3 ** Best conference record for MWC, excluding Sun Belt's 1-0
    2007: 3-1 vs 3-5
    2005: 2-2 vs 5-3 ** Best conference record tie ACC, Big 12
    2004: 3-2 vs 3-4 ** Best conference record MWC

    Total:
    MWC: 12-6
    Big 12: 16-15

Maybe the Auburn jab was a low blow. It is the source of my bias however. Maybe Auburn screwed the entire nation out of the opportunity to watch the best possible matchup for the national championship by scheduling a pansy.

Did I say Utah is better than Oklahoma? I believe they were in 2004, but I am obviously biased and that year gets a notable asterik. Any other year it is not even close. Oklahoma is the strong favorite.

Utah will probably be number 2 or 3 in the MWC this year. This would be equal to roughly the middle of the Big 12, comparable with Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. This is the level Utah consistenly plays at.

Last year's top ten was a lower bar than a top 10 spot usually is. The top teams in the BCS conferences took an off year, which lead to LSU winning the championship with two losses.

Arkansas is in the SEC, I don't usually like BCS teams.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
OK, I think I see what your beef is with the Big XII, it’s because OU and Texas are members, right??
Also you’re miffed because OU played in the NC game in 04 and you think Utah should have…..if that’s the reason, your gonna have a bad attitude from now on because OU and Texas will be at the top of the conference and usually ranked in the top 15 nationally..
You better have a good memory of Utah playing in the Fiesta Bowl in 04, because that’s probably as close as they will get to a NC game or a BCS bowl….JMO
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Did Texas and Oklahoma fans just band together to take down the Utah fan? Wow, write this day down on your calendar. I may regret thes words later, but I'm siding with the OU fans.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Kevin, I can't fix my typo, the text runs off the page so I can't see what I'm typing. Can you fix that?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
For the record I have always maintained Utah should have played Oklahoma in 2004, not the championship.

If countering points while admitting biases is a bad attitude, well guess i got one. And I play on remembering the 2005 and 2007 Fiesta Bowls for quite some time.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Thanks Ben for your honesty, I
BTW had no intention of starting anything
I actually like the MWC and pull for
teams like TCU when they are playing
TTech or OU. I like the fact that MWC
has its own TV network and given
the large geographical region, this can only
help the fans,Alums and families of
the atheletees keep up with whats going on
and help those who are unable to
    attend in person.
We as Horns fans dont like Arkansas euther,
but they hate us even worse.
04 was a very unusual year and
UT was only 12 points away from going undefeated
    and being in the mix.
BTW I was glad that Wyoming whuped UVA
and I look forward to next seasons
    TCU vs OU

  • Cougar_Fan · 1 year ago
Amen!! The MWC is pretty underrated. Now obviously its not the Big 12 but it does stack up pretty well when compared to Big East and ACC top to bottom (just compare OOC records against BCS schools). MWC year in and year out matches both those conferences records and usually has a better record than one of them.

  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
OU Ron...does 1Tomcat ever make a point? He is gone brag about that Texas Holiday Bowl victory until Texas wins another Holiday Bowl or maybe Alamo Bowl victory. The way 1300 the Zone here in Austin were talkin' 06/29...Texas might be playing in the Toilet Bowl ths year! They are forcasting a 6 loss year for Texas. I doubt it BUT this is the "homer" station for the Longhorns annd they said that 2008 is gone be the low point in William Brown's coaching career at Texas. I know after that first win of the season it will change! As long as Texas keep beating these weaker teams in lower tier bowls 1Tomcat will be content! Trust me, he will.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
    Hey Lennie
I'll be happy if UT fields a winning program year after year. I cant help it if UT keeps on winning its not my fault. I am not a fair weather football fan and I have followed UT football through the years.
When looking at UT schedule, I honestly must confess that it looks real tough with games
    at UTEP
    at Colo
    at Texas Tech
    at Kansas
    Home games
    Florida Atlantic
    Arkansas
    Rice
    Missouri
    Oklahoma State
    Baylor
    Texas A&M
I really dont see any automatic victories and if the Horns lose a few to tough opponents, I'm okay with that as long as they play tough and give it their best.
They really lost alot of talent, but the D oughta improve.
    Hookem-Horns
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
1Tomcat you talk as if Texas is pulling off an amazing task. Texas is going to keep winning with that non-conference schedule they have the next 3 years. I am so sure of it. That is why I wanted to bet you and the offer is still on! I will give you 5 to 1 odds that Texas non-conference record will be better that Oklahoma's over the next 5 years. I will give you 10 to 1 odds Texas will have the best non-conference wins total in the Big 12 the next 5 years. You count conference games...why I don't know. Teams don't schedule them...they are AUTOMATIC! If you consider UTEP, RICE, and FLORIDA ATLANTIC tough games...man you would fall into a coma if Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, and Louisiana State were on Texas schedule! Trust me 1Tomcat you are the only one on this blog who thinks Texas has a "tough" NON CONFERENCE SCHEDULE. You can have your own opinion...but saying over and over Texas schedule is tough...I think you are trying to convince yourself more than others!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Lennie Where on this blog did I state that UT had a tough non-conference schedule?
Go back and read every one of my post and you will realize that I was refering to overall schedule. I would love to see a UT vs LSU or UT vs FSU that would be a good thing. compare the overall schedules and you will see that OU has
    no Missu
    no Colo
    with their toughest opponents
    TTech and KU at home
A&M on the road is not a easy win, but other than that OU's schedule looks favorable compared to UT's thats all I was trying to say Lennie, and everyone on this blog would probably agree with me.
    Hookem-Horns
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
1Tomcat you are in denial...has usual. You even stated that Texas has a tough schedule. Do I have to talk like Yoda? Non-conference schedule is not included in overall schedule? Arkansas you bragged beat LSU last year. That make 'em tough?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Texas does have a tough game against Oklahoma
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I am going to clarify this. I am sorry that I did not make myself clear. No rudeness intended. Texas will not go out and schedule tough opponents. I live in Austin and saw & heard the press conference by William Brown aka Mack! I call him Whack Brown.

Ron this post was placed under Zac's from 23 hrs ago, but it went to the bottom under yours, he was saying something about 12-Fans, I was just reminding him that there was more Bowls games than the Feista, however I can understand his post. His post was a little jab at B-12 fans,

  • MGoBlueMitt · 1 year ago
Run the table? How do you figure that? USC week three.....yeah, that's a loss there scooter. How about this. Humble yourself. Take a step back and then realize that ANY NCAA Football fan would much rather go to a bowl game that they deserve to be in, vise going to the NC an getting waxed 2 yrs in a row, and in-turn making the Big 10 look like trash. Even if you do go..... OSU will loose again. You have the talent to take on your cupcake B10 schedule, but your not good enough to handle the rest of the team in college fball that actually play TOUGH opponents.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I don't think TTech is going BcS'n. I personally think FL will be there instead. Although, that might be an interesting match-up: FL vs TTech.

I like the idea of WVU playing Clemson, but I'm uncertain about both teams. I don't think Clemson has quite enough to get there, and WVU's defense may provide too much of a hindrance. That having been said, if'n the fans would like non-stop offensive fire-power, WVU vs. TTech. (That way the Tigers can play off.)

By comparison, I think USC had a bigger test against IL in the Rose than GA had against HI in the Sugar. That having been said, even if USC looses at home to OSU (provided it's close) should that be their only loss, they may wind up back in the dance against OSU, should GA have a loss. Then again, if all 3 have a loss, it just might be GA vs. USC. (No matter how you play it, OSU looses.) Of course, that still leaves the question, "Who plays WI in the Rose?"

TX/LSU should be one hell of a match-up. The question is, will LSU make the Cotton Bowl?

SC may become bowl eligible, but they may not get an invite. The U would get one with the same record before SC would. Face it; they're still a "Name".

ND/WF could be a good match-up. I think Wake will get there; still not sure about ND.

Finally (I heard that sigh of relief!), Zooker's Ilini vs Ducks or Utes (shades of "My Cousin Viny"), take your pick; either's good.

Ohio State returns 21 starters. This has always been the target year. Perhaps they MIGHT beat an SEC team in a bowl game.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
This is practically a no excuses year for OSU. A lot of people joke around, but seriously, OSU should be back in the NC game in Jan. The big test will be at USC, and OSU doesn't necessarily have to win to pass. If they do, I honestly think it'll be a matter of them waiting to see who'll they play.

Now, because they're not there…yet, it's too early in my opinion for the "what if's" if they were to lose in a 3rd straight NC game. Still, if that were to happen with their personnel…I don't know.

I love dogs. My wife calls me the "dog god". Quite often a dog which normally doesn't take to other people will take to me. Anyway, it's always sad to see an ole fellow and friend like that pass away. After being around that long, without question, they're family. Bulldogs are so cool; can't wait to see pictures of his replacement.

It was sad to hear of UGA VI' s departure to doggie heaven. Definately one of the best live mascots in college football. I always found it hilarious watching UGA chilling on ice bags during the game. I tried to buy a bulldog, but my other half dislikes them, because she says that they breathe and move around like a fat person. Im still trying to get on the K-9 Unit down here too bad they don'y employ many bulldogs in the K-9 Unit. R.I.P. UGA VI

It looks fairly represent the MWC. I hate it when these projections ignore the fact that a non-BCS team will get in. BYU is the best candidate this year, though Fresno State should make waves.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Why is everyone so high on Fresno State? They return basically the same team and play (basically) the same kind of opponents... so tell me why they're going to pull off more wins this year?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
They had an off year last year, as did the entire mainland members of the WAC. If they are retuurning the same team, does the experience from last year count for nothing?

I am expecting Fresno State to win the games they should and get an upset or two like they usually do.

I expect Fresno State to go 10-2 every season. A good season would get them to 11-1 and making waves. 9-3 would be a reasonable outcome for this year, considering the schedule. Anything less than this would be a disappointment to Fresno State fans.

Whats really interesting from this list, no Missu ?,no KU ?
I can kinda understand Mich being left out, new coach etc. etc.
Looking foward to the first game of the season broadcast nationally
SMU at Rice ought to be a good one
The Mustangs have new HC June Jones
The Owls opening game of the 08 season
Doesnt matter about rankings or BCS just looks like what a College game should be
Somebody is gonna win and both programs need a win early

Ok, first off lets get one thing straight all of u OSU haters out there havent done nearly half of what ohio state has in their season, All the people talking trash tell me who have you beat? Cause last time i checked your names were;nt even considered for a spot in the national title game..West Virginia couldn't even beat Pitt come on thats like a gimme game, As far as Auburn goes where do u guys place every year behind LSU,Florida, Georgia at least we win our confrence. And as far as tennessee goes can u spell CHOKE!!!!!!! So next time you talk make sure you yourselfs can close the deal......So please dont talk trash...But i did look into my football shaped crystal ball and it said not to forget to send u a postcard from miami......See you bitches in the 305
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Looks like the Buckeye fan can spell choke; maybe you were near a bowl ;-). And yes, Texas does have what is needed for me to trash teams losing in bowl games. We don't have a player that was around the last time we lost a bowl game!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
"West Virginia couldn't even beat Pitt come on thats like a gimme game"

Yeah, like IL was a gimmie game...wasn't it??? Oh, wait. That's right; they did win 9 games and go to the Rose Bowl, where they got crushed by the same team that lost to Stanford, another gimmie game. That should make ya proud.

Relax, "holics". As I've already said, you're boyz are likely going back to the NC game. It's what they do when they get there that'll interest me. If all they're concerned about is getting there, the results will be the same. When they learn to stop worrying about getting there, and actually perceive of winning it, that's when their fortunes will change.

How much money will Notre Dame get this year for not making a BCS bowl?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
More than I'll make in 10 years.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Will Notre Dame get to a Bowl Game at all this year?
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
I don't know. I just wish I could figure out how to get paid millions of dollars for not going to a BCS bowl.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
what i don't understand is how the other independent teams are not calling out the bcs on "hey we're independent too. so therefore we should be entitled to payments same as notre damned." i mean i know that they have been to a bcs bowl and the others havn't but still it does seem like a very reasonable demand they could make to the BCS. if it would fly or if they had the balls to do it is a different story as those teams have very small pockets.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Yes, we are all aware of the small pockets of Army and Navy.

Western Kentucky, maybe they have a smaller pockets.

I think better argument would be that the non-BCS confereces get payments, do these independents get a payment even on that level?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
    Didn't W KY just join a conference?
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Western Kentucky is a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
  • Cougar_Fan · 1 year ago
No!! Notre Dame is weak!!! They'll continue their mediocrity as long as they keep Weis around (and hopefully longer)!
  • Gamecock4life · 1 year ago
All I know is that Clemsux has no business in a BCS bowl or any bowl for that matter. The only reason they have winning seasons is because of who they play! Sure there are maybe two or three good teams in the ACC but everyone knows the first three games in the SEC are tough games! I mean come on look at Clemson's record against SEC teams lately anyways. I can promise you if Clemsux played in the SEC they would have a loosing season and the only talk about a bowl in South Carolina would be coming from the Gamecocks!

Say it ain't so....a buckeye fan on Fanblogs discussing game day choking? Oh the hypocrisy....

the only thing im wonderin is why bama aint up there i believe they'll take it a long way this year
probably not as far as the national championship but at least the at&t cotton bowl

    roll tide!!!
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Yes, the Cotton Bowl, because you have to aim high in this life...

I'm thinking that Shreveport is beckoning. Look TE up before you arrive. He probably doesn't live that far from there...
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
OK Ben, one last try at this, make me understand and I will forever shutup about it....
you're mad at OU because they didn't play Utah in the Fiesta bowl, even though OU didn't have anything to do with the selection on who played who in whatever bowl....

Usually a fan is pissed at the other team because their team was defeated by another team, this is the first time I've heard of a fan being mad at the other team because the two teams didn't play each other....

Seems to me that you're mad at a team, when you should be mad at the selection committee..

You may very well be right, Utah may have kicked OU's ass, that we will never know, in fact I don't know if the two teams have ever played each other.....I hope they do for your sake.......
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Hey Mister Prather...like Jeffery Osborne song about in 1982: Don't you get so mad (about it). If that's the case. OU Ron it is possible that these two teams could play. Utah have series against Louisville and Iowa State. They did have a series coming up with Texas BUT it fell through. The Longhorns of course are blaming the Utes! I personally think Texas cancel to play Wyoming, a SURE victory!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I fear the falling through may have been a mutual agreement. The MWC has taken a step backwards in its scheduling.

Wyoming is overdue for a good upset.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Yes I am venting my anger at the BCS selection process thru Oklahoma. Is this fair to all the good fans of Oklahoma? No, but they seem to regularly benefit from a favorable disposition in the selection process so I don't feel guilty about digging up old dirt.

If they actually win a championship or get screwed over in the selection process I might let them forget they should not have been there in 2004.

I don't beleive they have played, and Utah will not likely see a team like they had in 2004 unless they are invited into the PAC 10. 2004 is the only year in the last 15 years I have followed Utah football that I would have expected them to beat Oklahoma if they met.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
    fair enough...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I must clarify that most Utah fans don't care one way or another about Oklahoma, any more than any other top BCS team.

Its not like they are Kentucky Basketball. Them we HATE.

The Big East will have two schools in the BCS

Any incorrect answers or changes in answers are not the fault of myself, the magic 8 ball, or the magic 8 ball company; it's your fault for believing a f*cking toy.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
    A virtual toy at that...

Hey, the Magic 8 Ball is an important management tool that I keep at work. Anytime anyone asks a ridiculous question, I dig it out to get the answer. And the judgement of the Magic 8 ball is final. You guys think I'm kidding, but I really have one--ordered it off Amazon about 8 years ago for $8.88, plus S&H, of course...
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
I have one too, but I lost it. That really has me questioning it's magical powers.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Books a million has a fortune telling book that has much more insightful results.

    Same accuracy, but more options.

I would go through them asking them if I should buy this book, and wait until I found one that said I should.

I think a lot of people underestimate Colorado. I watched them play Alabama in their bowl in 2007 and even though they lost they showed some VERY promising play by the freshmen QB. Now that they have the #1 RB and two top 20 O lineman. Im calling Colorado a blackhorse for Big 12 title game. Im a UGA fan through and through, but look for Colorado next year.

p.s. can't wait for UGA to play Colorado in 2010
  • Zac · 1 year ago
UGABUFF-aroo, I've said it in other threads. If WVU wins in Boulder, it will not have been until after the Buffs show the Mountaineers where their hearts are. I'm looking forward to a good game.
  • Bob · 1 year ago
Is anyone else tired of hearing about non-BCS schools going 12-0 after the Hawaii embarrasment last year
  • JB · 1 year ago
Colorado was a blackhorse in the Big 12 title game 3 years ago.....adn they played like it (texas won 70-7)
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Just a kind word in reference to our comment policy... please do not post with multiple user names.
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
It was 70-3 by the way, not 70-7
  • JB · 1 year ago
o haha.... it had the same effect
  • Bevo_Boy · 1 year ago
Yeah but I don't want people thinking that Colorado actually scored a touchdown when they didn't in the Big XII championship game

Well, at least you made up for it with volume...

My, that's a mighty pretty LSU Tiger eye there. Is that from the Lady Tigers? It looks like it has long eye lashes, kinda like Hollywood in the 1960s...
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
I saw some very similar eye makeup down in the Quarter a few years back. Had to convince a buddy that it was a man, man.

Stupid predictions. Just like last year, wrong. There is NO way Miami is getting into a bowl game unless they are playing Riker Island State Prison's Football team in the 2009 Warden Bowl.
  • BadBart · 1 year ago
You should all be thankful that the "U" took a few years off to let you all have some time in the sun. The Mighty Hurricanes will once again dominate college football starting next season!!!!

As far as the Buckeyes...ha ha ha you guys can't win a championship without paying for a ref!!! You guys could not afford to pay them off the last few times cause you are still paying that worthless piece of human flesh Maurice Clarett
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I can honestly say, we'd be more than happy to play the 'Canes this year. I really don't see much dominance coming UCG's way this year. I would like for Miami to return to prominence, but I certainly think we could take you this season.
  • UGABUFF · 1 year ago
HAHA Colorad was also a blackhorse to win the Big 12 in 2001....we played Texas and won. Im not saying they are going to, mostly because their team is comprised of all freshmen and sophomore starters, but if the younger guys step up then its going to a HUGE season for them.

Ask Oklahoma how it feels to underestimate Colorado
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I can understand your enthusiasm about beating Texas or Oklahoma since it’s a rare occasion…..Do it year after year, then you will really have something to brag about, until then, It’s always good to have something to shoot for…
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Oh ya I remember that one, That was the second time that year that yall played the Horns.
The Horns won the first game that year and during the second game I remember a boy named Simms that choked threw 3 ints, before Applewhite was put in the game too late and the Buffs squeezed by the Horns with a win- a rare event.
What happened last time the buffs played the Horns?
73-0 Colo is still trying to recover from that humiliating defeat
congrats on yalls win over OU and TTech last year
Best game yall had in 06 was when Baylor beat yall in OT in Boulder-great game
    Hookem-Horns
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Yawn! All you do is take your pre-pre-season rankings and plug them into the various bowls that correspond with the conference winners. Every one knows that you can't predict the bowl games for at least 2 weeks into the season... ;-)

That being said, THANK GOD they don't have us penciled in for the Cap One bowl again...
  • AUtigerman · 1 year ago
Imagine that OSU and another SEC team.

I hope if the SEC has one get in that there opponent isnt OSU again.

Personally i dont see OSU getting past USC early in the season. And ill go out on a limb an say Georgia wont win the SEC this year either.

I also think this may be a year where we see a couple weaker divison teams have an undefeated season and putting pressure on the BCS again.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
The early word on the street is it'll be BYU & either the "State" of Boise or Fresno. Personally, I'm doubt'n it.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
This only if a normal or higher turnover at the top of the standings happens, not a 2004. It might be interesting if 2 non-BCS teams get into the top 12 though.

Two non BCS teams could get in, but it would take a bit.
    1) Top 4 spots are conference champoins
    2) All BCS champions are in the top 14
    3) Only 2 BCS conferences have a second top 14 team
    4) Two non BCS teams are in the top 14

Otherwise the third eligible BCS conference would get the final at large bid.

8 of the top 14 spots are taken by the conference champions, so two BCS conferences would need to dominate the other 6 spots. Last year the SEC, PAC 10 and Big 12 did a fairly good job of this, allowing Hawaii to only really need a top 14 finish last year.

I think AUtigerman is speaking more of a Kansas/Missouri situation where BCS division teams that normally side on the sidelines step up.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Hey Ben: I wanted to respond directly to your post above about wanting to see Utah and Oklahoma play in 2004, but we were getting dangerously close to running off that right margin...

Please clarify: Who would you like to have seen play in the 2004 BCS championship game? do you think the other two undefeated teams should have matched up, too? Who do you think would have won?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I think, and posted and thought and will always think,

The best championship game would have been USC and Auburn. Oklahoma showed they should not have been their by the result of the game. I think USC would have won a very close game.

Oklahoma and Utah should have been in the Fiesta Bowl. Utah did not get to play anyone that year worth anything, including Texas A&M.

Both of these games would have been better than the National Championship game and Fiesta Bowl game we got that year.

My top 4 that year, before and after the BCS bowls was
    USC
    Auburn
    Utah
    Oklahoma
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Ben, just for clarification, are you talking about 2004, the year Utah played Pitt, in the Fiesta Bowl? I beg to differ. WVU should have been there against your Utes!

WVU's loss at Pitt in 2004 was the 2nd most frustrating game to watch as a Mountaineer fan. (I know I don't have to tell you which was the most frustrating Pitt/WVU game.) Statistically, they owned the game at Pitt, but foolishly didn't execute when it was needed most. Despite all the mistakes, they still led, until Pitt's final drive.

WVU forced 5 3rd-&-longs (one, a 3rd-&-17), and Pitt's Tyler Palco managed convert every one of them. WVU had even stopped Pitt on its only 4th down attempt. Were it not for a bone-headed 15 yard penalty assessed on WVU, likely they would have represented the Big East in the Fiesta.

Not only would WVU have been a better match-up for Utah, I honestly think they might have won. Instead, WVU had to settle for the Gator Bowl, where they lost in practically the same fashion as they had in their previous 3 losses against a fine FL St team. But, as Ron has already said, "We'll never know."
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I remember that WV Pitt game. My memory seems to recall many bad calls in WV's favor that Pitt managed to overcome. Maybe I am confounding that one with the one you refer to as the most frustrating.

Either way I would have put Pitt/WV against Virginia Tech and let the undefeateds play it out.
