Go Canes!
Also, TTU in BCS bowl? As Shooter McGavin would say, "Yeah, and Grizzly Adams had a beard!"
Sorry, Tom Blogical...
tOSU shoud be banned from the NC Game for at least the next two seasons. They've already proven themselves unworthy.
pulling for USC--in order to knock tOSU out of the race--it could be our only hope.
Nothing personal; I'm still salivating over USC v. SEC Champ (whomever it may be) for all the marbles, and we've kinda' already seen tOSU v. SEC Champ in the NC-game....by now, we all have a pretty good idea how that one ends.
GO GATORS!!
Don’t you think a team can improve from year to year, or is it because Stoops hasn’t won a BCS bowl, doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it….
At least We can agree to not like Texas
maybe yall can meet them in a bowl
If you are getting to bowl games you can't win, you and your conference are over rated. How does Oklahoma consistently get ranked higher than they really ought to be?
7 BCS teams per year vs 1 non BCS team per year.
A non BCS team getting there is more significant than a BCS team getting there.
2004, Oklahoma got to the title game when Auburn should have.
Oklahoma should have played Utah in the Fiesta Bowl in 2004.
Since then I have had a strong anti-Oklahoma bias.
Oklahoma won 62-24.
Its good to be a cupcake.
Oklahoma won 62-24.
Its good to be a cupcake.
It was a conspiracy, we paid off the selection committee.......you probably should start to get pissed off again because we're about to do it again...
overated.While granted I dislike OU
more than you do, but I wouldnt run
down the entire conference based upon one
teams recent bowl record. Texas has
4 straight bowl wins and won 6 outa 7
including 2 BCS bowls.
Ya Okay Ben your right the B-12 is
overated having 4 yeams finish in the top
ten. I know you dislike Texas and thats okay
You and I both dislike OU so we have something
in common. How do you like Arkansas?
2004 Was very unusual and a playoff
format would have ended all the B/S
The voters and committees decide the entire Bowl line up. The stated goal is to provide quality games of fairly matched teams. Conference alignments are set in advance and should reflect roughly how strong one conference is to another.
Take the Las Vegas Bowl: MWC #1 vs PAC 10 #4-5. This is about where most people state the MWC shoud fairly be. The MWC consistently win that game, in fact they have had a winning bowl record 4 out of the last 5 years, and have been filling bowl spots other conferences could not. The MWC #1 is closer to the PAC 10 #3. I would argue this is close to #4 in the Big 12.
The MWC gets lower bowls than the Big 12 because they are a weaker conference. No argument on that. The MWC consistently wins their bowls, so they not as weak as the bowl committees think.
Year: MWC vs Big 12
2007: 4-1 vs 5-3 ** Best conference record for MWC, excluding Sun Belt's 1-0
2007: 3-1 vs 3-5
2005: 2-2 vs 5-3 ** Best conference record tie ACC, Big 12
2004: 3-2 vs 3-4 ** Best conference record MWC
Total:
MWC: 12-6
Big 12: 16-15
Maybe the Auburn jab was a low blow. It is the source of my bias however. Maybe Auburn screwed the entire nation out of the opportunity to watch the best possible matchup for the national championship by scheduling a pansy.
Did I say Utah is better than Oklahoma? I believe they were in 2004, but I am obviously biased and that year gets a notable asterik. Any other year it is not even close. Oklahoma is the strong favorite.
Utah will probably be number 2 or 3 in the MWC this year. This would be equal to roughly the middle of the Big 12, comparable with Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. This is the level Utah consistenly plays at.
Last year's top ten was a lower bar than a top 10 spot usually is. The top teams in the BCS conferences took an off year, which lead to LSU winning the championship with two losses.
Arkansas is in the SEC, I don't usually like BCS teams.
Also you’re miffed because OU played in the NC game in 04 and you think Utah should have…..if that’s the reason, your gonna have a bad attitude from now on because OU and Texas will be at the top of the conference and usually ranked in the top 15 nationally..
You better have a good memory of Utah playing in the Fiesta Bowl in 04, because that’s probably as close as they will get to a NC game or a BCS bowl….JMO
If countering points while admitting biases is a bad attitude, well guess i got one. And I play on remembering the 2005 and 2007 Fiesta Bowls for quite some time.
BTW had no intention of starting anything
I actually like the MWC and pull for
teams like TCU when they are playing
TTech or OU. I like the fact that MWC
has its own TV network and given
the large geographical region, this can only
help the fans,Alums and families of
the atheletees keep up with whats going on
and help those who are unable to
attend in person.
We as Horns fans dont like Arkansas euther,
but they hate us even worse.
04 was a very unusual year and
UT was only 12 points away from going undefeated
and being in the mix.
BTW I was glad that Wyoming whuped UVA
and I look forward to next seasons
TCU vs OU
Go Frogs
Yeah, the wrath of Stoops.......
KU, Missu,Texas and Texas Tech won their bowls
Colo,OU and A&M lost theres
I'll be happy if UT fields a winning program year after year. I cant help it if UT keeps on winning its not my fault. I am not a fair weather football fan and I have followed UT football through the years.
When looking at UT schedule, I honestly must confess that it looks real tough with games
at UTEP
at Colo
at Texas Tech
at Kansas
Home games
Florida Atlantic
Arkansas
Rice
Missouri
Oklahoma State
Baylor
Texas A&M
I really dont see any automatic victories and if the Horns lose a few to tough opponents, I'm okay with that as long as they play tough and give it their best.
They really lost alot of talent, but the D oughta improve.
Hookem-Horns
Go back and read every one of my post and you will realize that I was refering to overall schedule. I would love to see a UT vs LSU or UT vs FSU that would be a good thing. compare the overall schedules and you will see that OU has
no Missu
no Colo
with their toughest opponents
TTech and KU at home
A&M on the road is not a easy win, but other than that OU's schedule looks favorable compared to UT's thats all I was trying to say Lennie, and everyone on this blog would probably agree with me.
Hookem-Horns
Of course he must realize that we as fans are not a close knit group like SEC fans for example
Adios Tomcat
I like the idea of WVU playing Clemson, but I'm uncertain about both teams. I don't think Clemson has quite enough to get there, and WVU's defense may provide too much of a hindrance. That having been said, if'n the fans would like non-stop offensive fire-power, WVU vs. TTech. (That way the Tigers can play off.)
By comparison, I think USC had a bigger test against IL in the Rose than GA had against HI in the Sugar. That having been said, even if USC looses at home to OSU (provided it's close) should that be their only loss, they may wind up back in the dance against OSU, should GA have a loss. Then again, if all 3 have a loss, it just might be GA vs. USC. (No matter how you play it, OSU looses.) Of course, that still leaves the question, "Who plays WI in the Rose?"
TX/LSU should be one hell of a match-up. The question is, will LSU make the Cotton Bowl?
SC may become bowl eligible, but they may not get an invite. The U would get one with the same record before SC would. Face it; they're still a "Name".
ND/WF could be a good match-up. I think Wake will get there; still not sure about ND.
Finally (I heard that sigh of relief!), Zooker's Ilini vs Ducks or Utes (shades of "My Cousin Viny"), take your pick; either's good.
Now, because they're not there…yet, it's too early in my opinion for the "what if's" if they were to lose in a 3rd straight NC game. Still, if that were to happen with their personnel…I don't know.
What are your thoughts with the USC v. UVA match? Big time teams have a rough time in Charlottesville...
R/ S&G
HookEmHorns!
I love the Las Vegas Bowl myself.
I am expecting Fresno State to win the games they should and get an upset or two like they usually do.
I expect Fresno State to go 10-2 every season. A good season would get them to 11-1 and making waves. 9-3 would be a reasonable outcome for this year, considering the schedule. Anything less than this would be a disappointment to Fresno State fans.
I can kinda understand Mich being left out, new coach etc. etc.
Looking foward to the first game of the season broadcast nationally
SMU at Rice ought to be a good one
The Mustangs have new HC June Jones
The Owls opening game of the 08 season
Doesnt matter about rankings or BCS just looks like what a College game should be
Somebody is gonna win and both programs need a win early
Yeah, like IL was a gimmie game...wasn't it??? Oh, wait. That's right; they did win 9 games and go to the Rose Bowl, where they got crushed by the same team that lost to Stanford, another gimmie game. That should make ya proud.
Relax, "holics". As I've already said, you're boyz are likely going back to the NC game. It's what they do when they get there that'll interest me. If all they're concerned about is getting there, the results will be the same. When they learn to stop worrying about getting there, and actually perceive of winning it, that's when their fortunes will change.

Western Kentucky, maybe they have a smaller pockets.
I think better argument would be that the non-BCS confereces get payments, do these independents get a payment even on that level?
probably not as far as the national championship but at least the at&t cotton bowl
roll tide!!!
I'm thinking that Shreveport is beckoning. Look TE up before you arrive. He probably doesn't live that far from there...
you're mad at OU because they didn't play Utah in the Fiesta bowl, even though OU didn't have anything to do with the selection on who played who in whatever bowl....
Usually a fan is pissed at the other team because their team was defeated by another team, this is the first time I've heard of a fan being mad at the other team because the two teams didn't play each other....
Seems to me that you're mad at a team, when you should be mad at the selection committee..
You may very well be right, Utah may have kicked OU's ass, that we will never know, in fact I don't know if the two teams have ever played each other.....I hope they do for your sake.......
Wyoming is overdue for a good upset.
If they actually win a championship or get screwed over in the selection process I might let them forget they should not have been there in 2004.
I don't beleive they have played, and Utah will not likely see a team like they had in 2004 unless they are invited into the PAC 10. 2004 is the only year in the last 15 years I have followed Utah football that I would have expected them to beat Oklahoma if they met.
Its not like they are Kentucky Basketball. Them we HATE.
Any incorrect answers or changes in answers are not the fault of myself, the magic 8 ball, or the magic 8 ball company; it's your fault for believing a f*cking toy.
Hey, the Magic 8 Ball is an important management tool that I keep at work. Anytime anyone asks a ridiculous question, I dig it out to get the answer. And the judgement of the Magic 8 ball is final. You guys think I'm kidding, but I really have one--ordered it off Amazon about 8 years ago for $8.88, plus S&H, of course...
Same accuracy, but more options.
I would go through them asking them if I should buy this book, and wait until I found one that said I should.
p.s. can't wait for UGA to play Colorado in 2010
My, that's a mighty pretty LSU Tiger eye there. Is that from the Lady Tigers? It looks like it has long eye lashes, kinda like Hollywood in the 1960s...
HAHA! Hard to show us upwith faulty links, Jonathan!! You consult with TE and get back with us...
As far as the Buckeyes...ha ha ha you guys can't win a championship without paying for a ref!!! You guys could not afford to pay them off the last few times cause you are still paying that worthless piece of human flesh Maurice Clarett
Ask Oklahoma how it feels to underestimate Colorado
The Horns won the first game that year and during the second game I remember a boy named Simms that choked threw 3 ints, before Applewhite was put in the game too late and the Buffs squeezed by the Horns with a win- a rare event.
What happened last time the buffs played the Horns?
73-0 Colo is still trying to recover from that humiliating defeat
congrats on yalls win over OU and TTech last year
Best game yall had in 06 was when Baylor beat yall in OT in Boulder-great game
Hookem-Horns
That being said, THANK GOD they don't have us penciled in for the Cap One bowl again...
I hope if the SEC has one get in that there opponent isnt OSU again.
Personally i dont see OSU getting past USC early in the season. And ill go out on a limb an say Georgia wont win the SEC this year either.
I also think this may be a year where we see a couple weaker divison teams have an undefeated season and putting pressure on the BCS again.
Two non BCS teams could get in, but it would take a bit.
1) Top 4 spots are conference champoins
2) All BCS champions are in the top 14
3) Only 2 BCS conferences have a second top 14 team
4) Two non BCS teams are in the top 14
Otherwise the third eligible BCS conference would get the final at large bid.
8 of the top 14 spots are taken by the conference champions, so two BCS conferences would need to dominate the other 6 spots. Last year the SEC, PAC 10 and Big 12 did a fairly good job of this, allowing Hawaii to only really need a top 14 finish last year.
I think AUtigerman is speaking more of a Kansas/Missouri situation where BCS division teams that normally side on the sidelines step up.
Please clarify: Who would you like to have seen play in the 2004 BCS championship game? do you think the other two undefeated teams should have matched up, too? Who do you think would have won?
The best championship game would have been USC and Auburn. Oklahoma showed they should not have been their by the result of the game. I think USC would have won a very close game.
Oklahoma and Utah should have been in the Fiesta Bowl. Utah did not get to play anyone that year worth anything, including Texas A&M.
Both of these games would have been better than the National Championship game and Fiesta Bowl game we got that year.
My top 4 that year, before and after the BCS bowls was
USC
Auburn
Utah
Oklahoma
WVU's loss at Pitt in 2004 was the 2nd most frustrating game to watch as a Mountaineer fan. (I know I don't have to tell you which was the most frustrating Pitt/WVU game.) Statistically, they owned the game at Pitt, but foolishly didn't execute when it was needed most. Despite all the mistakes, they still led, until Pitt's final drive.
WVU forced 5 3rd-&-longs (one, a 3rd-&-17), and Pitt's Tyler Palco managed convert every one of them. WVU had even stopped Pitt on its only 4th down attempt. Were it not for a bone-headed 15 yard penalty assessed on WVU, likely they would have represented the Big East in the Fiesta.
Not only would WVU have been a better match-up for Utah, I honestly think they might have won. Instead, WVU had to settle for the Gator Bowl, where they lost in practically the same fashion as they had in their previous 3 losses against a fine FL St team. But, as Ron has already said, "We'll never know."
Either way I would have put Pitt/WV against Virginia Tech and let the undefeateds play it out.
