Fanblogs.com: LSU dials up more staff chaos by hiring Orgeron

LSU seems to be a program in a tailspin right now. It has been a long fall from the NC to where they currently are.

    LOL!

LSU had a good win last night saving them from a Gerry DiNardo like finish to the season.

I don't know - looks good to me. LSU has had very good talent. It's one thing to have good talent - and it's quite another to understand what to do with it. With the hiring of Chavis and Orgeron, LSU has addressed the problem of not knowing how to play defense, along with not losing too much on the recruiting trail. Orgeron has been noted for being a great recruiter. LSU has been known for having outstanding defensive linemen that dominate and take over games. Orgeron can bring those kinda recruits in. Chavis will know what to do with them. Tennessee's problems in the last few years don't have much to do with defense. In fact, last year, they had a real good defense. So, it looks as though Chavis never really lost sight of anything. Miles is now going to attempt to save his own butt - and this may be the way to do it.

I'm going to two thirds agree with you. LSU already has great talent, but I do agree that Chavis and Orgeron are a huge upgrade to the coaching staff and that this may save Miles' bacon.

Does Baton Rouge have a Hummer dealer?

    Can't wait!!
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
    WEA:

Southern Cal does supply all Hummers needed to ex-staff, as part of a lifelong severance package, in order for those ex-coaches to be successful wherever they end up. So yes, Ed Orgeron has an unlimited supply of Hummers at his disposal, to use to entice as many recruits as he can get his hands on. It's all part of the Trojan family perk package. It's why you want to go to USC if you play football well.

I love it!! I was really hoping Orgeron would get picked up by the Tigers. Well known for his recruiting skills, I think he's an even better D-line coach. Sedrick Ellis comes to mind right away. Orgeron recruited and developed him into a dominate player at USC and eventual first rounder. Don't know the numbers off hand but USC had quite a few guys go high in drafts who were developed by Ed. Mike Patterson was another one.

It's definitely an upgrade for the Tigers. Both coaches...Chavis and Orgeron. Seems I read somewhere that Chavis' defense was 4th in the country last year?? Maybe someone can clarify this. At any rate, hiring WEA to coach the line and TE to be DC would be better than we had last year...lol. BTW...Happy B-day fellas.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years celebration. Enjoy the CFB that we have left.

    Happy New Year!

For what it's worth, LSU has six DL's in the NFL right now. USC has six DL's in the NFL right now. I don't see evidence that USC is better at developing DL than LSU has been.

That's why your'e the man. You've got all the stats....lol. Thx for that nugget of wisdom. Just seems USC would've had more but wtf do I know. On second though...don't answer that.

On Orgeron....I'm disappointed he's not coming now. Bay-Bay is a hometowner from just down the road and I'm all for in-state talent staying home, whether it be players or coaches. I'll have to agree with the sentiment in the Tenn thread though...it would've been a strange situ if he was gonna be making more than the DC. I've never seen it work comfortably in the real world where employees make as much or more than their superiors......always a level animosity there.

Congrats to the Tigers for handling GTech. I, along with most everybody, I assume, thought this game would've been much, much closer and wouldn't have surprised many if the score ended 38-3...but for the 'Jackets.

Whoa, Nellie!!!! LSU Beat jumped the Gun. Orgeron is *not* going to LSU. ESPN has confirmed -- as in, actually talked to Orgeron -- that he is going to be the Associate Head Coach at Tennessee.

I take back everything I said (this time) about Louisiana being all bass ackward.

    Kevin,

I've wanted to put up about three different stories about our hiring new staff...

I heard Vic Koennig of Clemson was a "done deal".

Then I heard he wanted to go ahead and make it public before Miles was ready. He then got frustrated when rebuffed, and tried to force Miles hand by playing the K-State Head Coach in Waiting card...and Miles called him on it.

Then I heard it was DeWayne Walker, but DeWayne Walker accepted the job for 200K a year as the head coach at New Mexico, which was one of the silliest, most illogical career decisions I've seen in college football.

Then I heard it was Chavis & Orgeron. But, it turns out that Orgeron is a Sexton client, and that Tennessee is going to pay him 900K/year to be a DL Coach & Recruiting Coordinator. They're already paying a million dollars to Monte to be the DC.

1.9 million/year to two assistant coaches is too much money. I have reservations about paying our coordinators 400K/year.

Orgeron allegedly had a deal in principal with LSU, and Sexton continued to deal with Tennessee behind LSU's back. It's going to come back and bite him.
