    Gameday.......yep, I know I can hardly wait ;-)
  • shiguy · 9 months ago
Well if that is the case WVU will FINALLY get it's gameday cherry popped. Not a single gameday appearance not home or away.

On that note......I think I'm going to start saving now........for grad school in 2010.....
  • OU_Ron · 9 months ago
In that case, I hope game day comes your way, I also hope WVU plays LSU as good as they did the Sooners in the Fiesta.....
  • BettorFan · 9 months ago
    It should attract national spotlight.
  • TigerEducated · 9 months ago
Yeah, WVU's made a program out of those Thursday Night Games. I just hope that they don't fall on their faces next year or in 2010. We need them to be a tough opponent to give us a nice goose in the BCS Rankings.

Not trying to project anything, but we'd like to optimally play them when they are ranked as highly as possible. They're going to have to find a RB, though, as Noel Devine will probably be a gone pecan after 2009, his junior year.
  • Diggs_the_Mountie · 9 months ago
I've been waiting for this one ever since I first caught wind of it in the fall....It's gonna be a really good time. Cannot wait!

Look for Tavon Austin, Shawne Alston (big back), and Daquan Hargrett to fill the Noels void in 2010......Jock Sanders may "possibly" return as well?

One things for sure, it's an intriguing matchup. I just hope Eugene "Geno" Smith is ready at QB????
  • Diggs_the_Mountie · 9 months ago
I'm hoping the same for LSU....I want them when they're ranked.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 9 months ago
WVU will be in Auburn this fall. Maybe you can come scout em out.
  • Diggs_the_Mountie · 9 months ago
Yep, Auburn will get their shot at us in Alabama this year....One things for certain, I love the fact that we're seeing these types of games......
  • shiguy · 9 months ago
can i get a HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
  • Regan · 9 months ago
I utterly despise LSU, have for years, and will for....who knows.

That hatred is based on nothing but irrationality, having chips on shoulders due to the outcomes of their games vs. my teams, etc.

Having said that - Props to those jerks for having the guts to schedule big-name teams OOC like VT, WVU, ASU, and seemingly anyone else that wants a piece of 'em every single year...

Sorry....hopefully TE can take the compliment like the classy guy he is. :-)
  • TigerEducated · 9 months ago
[Looking around curiously behind him] Who are you calling "classy"?

    :)
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
After having our team called "jerks", you pass on the chance to drop a snap on him? That is classy. Must be what you gave up for lent...lol.

I agree though....hope the 'eers don't turn into another Arizona from a few years back.

Depends...If you're talking about 'Zona, then we rolled them up 59-13 back in 2003...

If you're talking about 'Zona State from Tempe, well, JaMarcus Russell showed his first flashes of brilliance on that 4th & 9 for the TD to Early Doucet in his 1st ever start as a Tiger.

On top of that, there were some SERIOUS extenuating circumstances in that game:

    1.) Katrina
    2.) Rita
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
My memory escapes me as to which one it was....just seems that one of 'em was ranked pretty high when the game was scheduled but come game time a few years later, the bottom had fallen out and they weren't even ranked.

We didn't get the boost in SOS that we would've had they kept winning.

Zona's coach was John Makovic at the time, and they tanked, and he was fired...

The year we played Zona State in 2005, they finished 9-3 and Sam Keller became a viable NFL prospect afterwards. He SHREDDED that defense in a way I haven't seen done since prior to this season...

I must admit; I don't care much for Ed Pastilong, WVU's AD, but if this is his doing, I LIKE IT!!! At the rate things are going, WVU will have played every team in the SEC by 2030. (God! I'll be 75!!!)

Figures, though; LSU should certainly have righted the ship by the time WVU plays them there, and I can't see much of a drop-off when they visit Morgantown the following year.

Although, speaking of "Here's hoping WVU doesn't lay an egg in 2010," let's hope ole Mike don't have any kittens the following year. I'm reminded of a highly regarded LSU squad visiting Blacksburg back in 2002. That didn't turn out all that well for the Tiggers, as I recall. But I'm with you, TE. If WVU's gonna beat LSU, I want the Tigers at the top of their game. So, here's to two good games back-to-back, where the fans are treated to nothing but the best and nobody gets hurt, except for the numbers on the scoreboard. (Ya know, this match-up has the smell of crystal all over it.)

You stated: "LSU is able to continue a tradition of facing one BCS Conference team per year as a part of its out-of-conference slate.."

Tradition? What BCS OOC school did LSU play last year?
    I remember the following:
    Appalachian State
    North Texas
    Tulane
    Troy
  • Clemson_Joe · 9 months ago
LSU also didn't have any back in 2000, or 2001. All of the other years they did though. Personally I applaud them. It's nice to see an SEC school stepping up and playing OOC BCS schools, even if it is ASU and Arizona most of the time.
  • Wardboy3 · 9 months ago
I agree with applauding them for trying. I have no problem with teams scheduling BCS schools, weather they are traditional powers or not. At least they are scheduling other BCS schools.

I just have a problem with the wording where he says TRADITION. Doesn't seem like a tradition to me.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
Seems you're being kinda picky. I guess it depends on your definition of tradition and the length of time required before the word "tradition" can be used.

    West Virginia 2011
    West Virginia 2010
    Washington 2009
    Virginia Tech 2007
    Arizona 2006
    Arizona St 2005
    Oregon St 2004
    Arizona 2003
    Virginia Tech 2002

A "tradition" is something that is long established. Going back to 2002 I do not think is "long established".

I also noticed you stopped at 2002. And why is that?!?!?
Because LSU didn't play any other BCS schools in 2001 or 2000 or 1999.

So since the inception of the BCS, in 1998, LSU has played a BCS OOC school only 64% of the time.

I'm sorry you consider that "kinda picky".
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
It's all good WB. No biggie. Obviously the author's length of time required to deserve the term "tradition" is different from yours.

So LSU only missed 4 years out of the possible 11. Still considered good in my book. And although App St isn't a BCS school, we all know what they're capable of and their history as well.

No apologies necessary. It (re: kinda picky) wasn't meant to start an argument.

FWIW, I don't consider it to be a tradition either.

We actually do have a tradition of playing at least one OOC BCS team every year. It never fails.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
Damn Joe....I thought we were buds man. You just gonna hang me out there huh? lol

I kinda agree with you and WB.....I'll call it a "tradition in the making" from now on...lol. Hey, at least they're trying. All traditions have to start somewhere.

On a non-football related note, LSU's basketball team has won the SEC regular season title! Not bad for a first year coach. Way to go Trent. And the baseball team is #1 in the country as well. They're averaging 10.5 runs a game and are 6-0, with SEC play yet to start.

"Damn Joe....I thought we were buds man."
    Was it something I said!?
    LOL. Thank God that's gone.

We are man. I was just saying that I don't think it's a tradition yet, but again, I'm really glad to see them stepping OOC at least once a year.

That has really been my major beef with most SEC teams anyway. Year in and year out you see middle of the pack ACC teams stepping OOC against much more powerful squads (a la UVA vs. Southern Cal) but you rarely ever see it in the SEC. I'm just glad that they're doing it at all. I have to commend LSU for that. I also have to give props to S. Carolina for stepping up against NC State and UNC here lately. I really like both of those matchups. I'm looking forward to the next 2 with great anticipation.

Congrats to LSU's basketball team. Winning the SEC is a great accomplishment. I (as well as you, I'm sure) just hope that LSU's relatively weak schedule doesn't kill them come NCAA Tournament time. It's looking like the Bayou Bengals are going to land a #7 seed, which makes for a tough road through the tournament. The brackets are intriguing me much more this year than they have in the past.

This year looks to be quite an intriguing one in college baseball as well. I'm not a baseball fan in general, but given where I went to school I certainly pay attention to it. Both the SEC and ACC look absolutely loaded with strong teams. It's going to be interesting to see who can weather the storm that is the regular season in both leagues. Best of luck to your tigers as well as mine.

By the way, not having football absolutely sucks. Bring it back!
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
I agree.....it sucks bad. I think the basketball Tigers are definitely gonna have a tough go of it in the tournament. Making the Sweet 16 would be a huge accomplishment though I don't know if they have it in 'em for the same reasons you stated.

The SEC (aside from LSU) has played like crap this year. We may be the only ranked team...IDK. But for a program that has little to cheer about the last few years, it's nice to see it turn around.

I've watched alot more basketball this year than ever. I don't know why, but I have. The more I watch it, the more it knaws on me that I'm sure if I want a playoff is CFB anymore. It just seems like it's no big deal if a team loses. #1 team loses, drops to #5. In the span of two weeks, that same team can be back at #1 again. I see what others mean when they say it (a playoff) will make the regular season games meaningless.

I know that something has to be done to improve it. I'm just not convinced that it's a big playoff anymore.

Where are you on the subject?

Glad to see that WVU is continuing to schedule games with an SEC opponant. Started with Miss. State, then Auburn, and then LSU. Looks like a great match up.
  • Clemson_Joe · 9 months ago
I agree with you on that. Obviously they are different sports though, and in basketball a hot/cold shooter can change the game completely, and that doesn't really happen in football. So even though a team like North Carolina can drop a game or two, they're still the best in the country. Insert Pitt, UConn, etc for UNC, but I do believe the Tarheels are the best basketball team this season. You have to admit that the NCAA basketball tournament is great fun though. It certainly can't happen like that in football, but that's just a fun time in sports any way you look at it.

I love the bowl games and don't want anything to happen to hurt that. However, I can't stand the current system for determining a National Champion. Personally I'd like to see a small playoff, just at the top, to straighten out that mess. No matter how many teams you let in, be it 4 or 65 teams, people will argue about the 5th or 66th team that didn't make it and should have. I think that's all worth it though. Any option is better than having to discuss whether or not the best 2 teams are playing in the game for all the marbles. Honestly, to appease me, if they'd just have the top 4 teams in the BCS compete in a small 3 game playoff, I'd be happy. They could use the existing bowl games for it, and not really detriment the integrity of those games. No team would be able to lay down and give up a game and expect to stay in the top 4, so I don't think you'd see teams taking a game off. In my opinion, it's the best option.

Overall though, I try to stay away from the playoff discussion as much as possible because it just makes me mad. I am an Appalachian State fan and one of the best things about football on any level is being able to see the Mountaineers go through the playoffs at the end of the season. Every single one of those games is exciting, and those teams never ever take a game off. I just wish it were the same for every level.

    What're your thoughts?

WVU beat the whole state of Georgia (Georgia & Georia Tec) in two of their last four bowl games. Auburn took it on the chin this year. We will be ready for LSU and any other SEC team that might want to play a quality team.
