Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
....j/k....
We don't need to take FSU out decisively; we just need to beat them...and of course, Bama, and we'll be in. Same for Bama; they just need to beat AU and UF, and they're in.
b/t/w: if UF wins, it will be the first time since 1985, that the Canoe will be in Gainesville!
GO GATORS!!
I also hear he is a ringer on the golf course. Something along the lines of nobody over 60 he has ever played has been able to beat him.
Have you picked up a copy of Gridiron Gators DVD? (about 100 yrs of UF FB)--they have a chapter dedicated to Mr. 2 bits. Frankly the whole DVD is awesome. If you haven't seen it, you should do so, as soon as possible...
....maybe ask ol' Sann'y Clause for a copy....
b/t/w: Mr. 2 bits has been "retiring" since the early '90's. He came "out of retirement" for the '96 SEC Championship, and in and out since.... You think he'll perform in ATL this year? ...or does he leave on the storybook ending, seeing as how he attended the Citadel, stated his "bit" in a UF v. Citadel game in '49, then supposedly finished in UF v. Cidadel....
Hmmm....
GO GATORS!!
Now down to Miami may be another story, may not be good for his arthritis.
If he does retire I wish him the best as he made all my years in college. Additionally, he will always go down as an easy Holloween costume mostly used at the landings in Jax.
I'll join you in wishing him the best, in his retirement....
Check out that dvd...you won't regret it...
GO GATORS!!
...since the whole "incest" concept doesn't appear to offend our B-XII comrades as expected, perhaps a little taste of their own medicine might be more effective in conveying the message...
(Apparently the concept only registers as utterly absurd with SEC folk; why that is so, is a complete mystery--but I guess we'll just have to roll with it, right?)
GO GATORS!!
GO GATORS!!
The B.S. Meter hasn't gone off either...
:-)
You saying I need to step up my game?
GO GATORS!!
It automatically emails offenders and calls them tools.
Come on tools, let's get to work...

GSEC
I've been deer hunting since the day after Thanksgiving. We dont exactly have a computer at the camp...lol.
Just got back this afternoon. Trying to figure out who LSU is gonna hire as the new Defensive Coordinator.
Hope all you guys had as good a Thanksgiving as I did.
Geaux Tigers
Geaux SEC
As far as who the new defensive coordinator is gonna be, we definitely need one like Bo. But, I don't have any inside info on who it will be. I'm sorry about that. Our defense is pretty bad this year, this I know; and that's an understatement too. However, I also see alot of character flaws in (mostly our defense); and that could come from the head coach as well (Les Miles). If we don't make some improvements soon; and I give Les Miles 2 more years to start improving our team; or he could also be on the firing range as well, I think. He, himself, has made alot of very bad decisions this year (VERY BAD!!!!!). I guess he could be making up for alot of good luck fortunes that he had with last year's talented team (2007 National Champs); and we lost alot of key skilled and unskilled position players from that team.
I see Nick Saban's recruits as havin' more character than Les Miles' recruits from my vantage point. All these players are gonna be 100% Les Miles' team now. Nevertheless, I definitley want Le MIles to succeed because I love L.S.U. so, so, so so, so much; and I to keep rebuilding, and or, to hope we get another Nick Saban type coach is just too time consuming and draining. As a Tiger fan, I'm very pissed with L.S.U.'s lack of discipline even though we need alot of skill to go along with that discipline. But, there's got to be discipline I don't care how good the players are; and I don't know anything conerning our new defensive coordinator. I wish I did.
Geaux Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...and quit being such a little ninny about that incest ANALOGY--the more you go on about it, the more you add credence to the underlying point.
Seriously, are you afraid that Texas or OU or whomever, will be exposed as frauds, should they take the field against the SEC champ? Surely you don't think SEC Fan is afraid to have our champ take the field against B XII champ, do you? So what's the problem?
As for the commentators--yeah, we've heard the one about the "NON-CONF. CHAMP" playing for the BCS NC, a couple times before. Once was B XII non-champ, OU--getting annihalated by USC; again it was Michigan to REPLAY tOSU (instead, they were annihalated by USC).
So forgive us if we don't lend it too much credence.
b/t/w: did you really insinuate that all SEC fans are homosexual??? ("...thats all sec fans have to talk about this year....you guys are probably homosexuals...") --you're really not even funny anymore; you're just plain embarrasing (to yourself, and your "cause").
GO GATORS!!
game, will score alot too..4 top tens from the big twelve could'nt stop those offenses...by the way, ou and ut are both ranked top 40 in rush defense and florida is primarily speed rush. that doesn't mean they won't have succes on the ground, but will it be enough to beat 2 teams averaging over 44 points a game , even against ranked teams, and one qb about to set the single season ncaa record for completion percentage by about 7 % higher...----both teams lost to top 5 teams and no unraked team came close to beating them////i will give florida a slight edge being that the game is in miami,,,,,but its not going to be citadel or vany coming in there...in 2005 texas was ranked #2 all season and went in the national title game agsints usc a 3 td underdog----in california the horns shocked the world and upset the trojans, so dont think it will be a gimme for florida
Well whaddy'a know....some reasoned anaylsis...intelligent dialogue...no name callin'....we start afresh...
Look--I happen to hold the Texas FB program in very high regard. I remain eternally grateful to Texas for clearing the path to our first Nat'l C'ship in '96, buy pulling off one of the greatest upsests in CFB history, by toppling reigning N'Champ Nebraska--when no one gave them a snowball's chance...
Secondly, I've never suggested that Texas doesn't deserve to be in the NC game--my only contention is that it's either Texas, OU, or TT--but ONLY ONE of them, from the B-XII. That's my only issue here. Unless all of the other 1 loss teams from other conferences are otherwise disqualified, a rematch should simply be a course of last resort. No disrespect to Texas, or even the B XII at all. Of those three teams, I hope Texas gets the nod to play Mizzou for the B XII champ. I like Stoops for his work at UF in '96, but, as indicated above, Texas has my gratitude....
Third--you seem to discount UF's annihilation of OSU in '06 as not being worthy, or at least not as impressive as Texas' win over USC...or somesuch (not really sure what you were saying about it, but you've mentioned it in a couple of posts....)...let's just put that one to rest already---that overrated Ohio State that UF took to the woodshed....took Texas to a similar woodshed--in Austin--in September of that same year (24-7).
Finally--I've been burnt before, expecting UF to run the gamut, only to have them stub their toe along the way, blow it, or just flat out face plant (e.g.--Nebraska 62-UF 24, '95 Fiesta Bowl NC game....); I ain't counting chickens 'til the eggs have hatched....
...though I am confident of our prospects.
GO GATORS!!
hook-em
Wareagle!
FSU vs UF
Bamma vs AU
OU @ OSU
BU @ TTech
Hookem-Horns
If i have a choice to go 10-1 and lose to Bama after being undefeated and our national championship hopes ended, or go 6-6 with beating an undefeated Bama team. No contest ill take the Bama win
...there's simply way too much at stake, and way too much history there.
...and I'm guessin' pretty much the same could be said of UA v. AU.
GO GATORS!!
Look--I don't want FSU to suck...but hope FSU beats UF? I don't have it in me on a down year, let alone when we have NC aspirations...
I'm afraid I'm gonna' have to refrain from pulling for alma mater's arch-rival to beat my alma mater--at least for this year....
...maybe next year....or the year after that...keep checkin' in with me...
...I hope you understand....
GO GATORS!!
I think there are only two Noles I can think of that I would whiz on if they were on fire...
K-Hue and my traitorous cousin...
And even then...
If I didn't have to pee and there was a bucket of water handy...
They'd simply burn since there is no sense in wasting a perfectly good bucket of water...
And you came back as a fire monitor, no less...
Safety first...
Lowly Auburn couldnt possibly give us a game.
Wish in one hand and spit int the other. Tell me which one gets full first.
And these are the same two conferences so bitterly opposed to expanding into divisional play. Hmmm....
But not to say that the ACC wouldn't be benefitting from a similar scenario, but they're locked up in tremendous parity this season, with no single team or two standing head and shoulders above the others...
We could end up with these unbeaten teams:
Utah and Boise State
And all these one-loss teams:
Florida, Alabama, Penn State, USC, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech
Has there ever been more need for a playoff of some kind? I don't think it has ever been quite this disturbing. I'm not even going to bother to fight for my team this time. There are just way too many good arguments for everybody. The only argument that I can make, is the same old disturbing trend, of scheduling very weak OOC competition is making for too many unbeaten and one-loss teams. There definately has to be a new system. There are several deserving teams that will not get to play for the National Championship this year.
you didnt take care of business, therefore, you shouldn't get to play in the NC game.
it's just that simple.
oregon freaking state.
stanford.
ucla.
if your team can just keep their s*** together for an entire season, there wouldnt be an issue.
i mean, do you realize that if USC could have mustered up enough strength to beat the beavers, they would be #2 in the BCS right now?
if i were you, instead of worrying about scheduling tougher games, why dont you worry about taking care of an easy schedule first?
you can run your mouth all day long about how your trojans should go to the NC based on rivals.com rankings, but until your team shows up to play every week of the season, and can have enough discipline to put away easy opponents, you have no right to talk.
thats just my 2 cents.
sorry to come off so brash. im just disappointed in the trojans
Why are you still such a moron? Didn't the Texas Tech massacre show you anything? That's what's gonna happen to Alabama when they meet Florida.
You say that we "didn't take care of business"! Your gonna say that finishing 12-1 and ranked 2nd in the country was "not taking care of business". You say that we played a weak schedule? Our conference teams of Oregon State, Oregon, California and Arizona could play against any teams in the SEC sans Florida. We also add Ohio State and Notre Dame to a non-con schedule - and you think it's weak? Our SOS outranks yours by far.
Bleed, your not even gonna be remembered in a few more weeks. This is your last stand. You fade out into oblivion starting with the Florida game. It would be so great to see Oregon State in the Rose Bowl - with USC and Alabama in the Sugar. Not gonna happen, as the Fiesta gets the 1st pick, and they'll definately want the best bowl team in the land.
By "not taking care of business" - we have now won games to the tune of a 76-7, record over the last seven years. We've had to be unbeaten to get into the NC game both times. Has there ever been more than one "Super Bowl Champion" who hasn't lost at least two games? Where in the world did college football fans, come to the understanding, that the best team doesn't lose games? Didn't last years Super Bowl put anything into perspective for anybody? Alabama is unbeaten. They are not even a TOP FIVE team. That distinction belongs to Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Texas and Penn State. All five would take Alabama back out to the woodshed. I hope you draw one of these in the Sugar bowl. That will give you two losses this year. That will give you seven in the last two years. That will equal what we have lost in the last 83 games. Keep runnin' your mouth. I'll be here a long time after you and Nick Saban are long gone.
Lets not start the victory chain
UCLA> Tenn> Vandy>OLe Miss> Fla
I can't see where I've started a victory chain? Looks like your doin' just fine with that all on your own. Don't drink too much before that bird gets outta the oven. I hate when that happens.
Oh Santa please please!
Good luck this weekend WEA, although I'll be pulling as hard as ever to break the curse of Tubberville. 7 in a row would be a tough pill to swallow.
Pete Holiday posted on Roll Bama Roll that Auburn had more to lose with this game than Alabama does. What do you think?
while alabama may lose 7 straight in the iron bowl, they'll still be ranked top 10 to finish the season, while most likely going to a BCS bowl.
if auburn loses, they could lose their head coach, they'll fall so far behind alabama in a national sense, it could be the end of auburn football for the next decade.
of course, that's if you subscribe to the zero-sum theory, which i do.
I'm sorry I interrupted...You were saying something about PASSPASSPASSPASSPASSFRICKINGPASS.?
Yep, I think that Florida is gonna take anybody, but USC, to the woodshed this year. Those two teams have way too much team speed all over the field. Something gets exploited terribly when you go up against that much speed in every single position. Oklahoma looked blazing fast against Texas Tech (a team with little real talent) but that won't be the case against Florida. West Virginia made Oklahoma seem real slow last year. The Oklahoma linebackers will not be able to catch the Florida RB's. It'll be a long game for Oklahoma.
besides, the last time I looked, we were number 3 .....you should be telling that to texas, right ??
I expect that wins over Oklahoma State and Missouri are gonna be able to launch Oklahoma into the National Championship game. I don't suppose that Texas' game against A&M is gonna impress anyone. But, the Sooners can impress voters two more times, but only if they can blow Oklahoma State out. I think they will. Even still, should Texas play Missouri, Oklahoma would still stand a shot at the National Championship game. Anyway, it's the most competitive game that I would like to see. Florida and Oklahoma would definately be something. I don't expect any total beatdowns by anybody like we've seen in the last few years. Oklahoma might struggle with the Florida backs - but Florida is gonna struggle with Bradford and all those receivers and RB's also. It'll be a slugfest.
Future is looking bleek for Tex, but they still gotta shot. I still believe it will be undeserving OU
You have no idea how frustrating it is to watch the Tigers play this year much less comment on them. All I have to say is this- 5 running backs, no QB, and guess what the play call is-PASSPASSPASSPASSFRICKINGPASS. AHHHHHHH!
I assure you all it is most decidedly not...TE had a bit of an issue with his ticker last week, and it flared up a little bit worse than it had been on Sunday Night, so I spent the evening in the ER...
Just got in from the cardiologist...
I'm back...Get used to it...
Glad your are better.
News Flash.......
TigerEducated has a heart!!
I'm sure you'll be feeling better when LSU has a mature, reliable QB. ;-)
Now that your back, I saw that Ole Miss game, the Hogs shoulda never run off Nutt-great coach who is 2-1 vs the Horns and Brown
The Rebels are back and have a decent QB. I remember seeing this guy in San Antonio at the All-American Army bowl throwing passes to Beasly who is now Longhorn DB. He played for Stephenville in H/S think they won the State title. He was #2 behind McCoy and would have seen very limited action, glad he's doing well.
I think we have a home & Home series coming up with Ole Miss ought to be a great series between two great programs, might help both teams SOS 09 and 10. Arkansas dropped out and took A&M instead of Texas- both programs have declined- and these two storied opponents that used to be real tough probably hurt Texas SOS for 08
Hookem-Horns
Seriously, dude, take care-o-that ticker and it'll take care-o-u. Glad to see it was a false alarm. This crazy place wouldn't be the same without you. Of course, I also say that about Lennie & Coondog... Oh, never mind...
However im not so sure Bama could overcome a loss to Auburn with a Florida win. Never know could still happen
