    Sad day in East Lansing...

Props to the Pac-10 guys and Domers...

Can you really count Washington in this? Aren't they basically a FCS team these days, anyways?

    Low.... I mean Low....

    Not inappropriate....just Low, dude....

Kicking the Huskie when he's down like that? Ouch...

(In other words, it's that close to truth...) :(

I can't help it. I think the funniest thing I've read recently was where someone commented that a more realistic gameday experience at Washington would be to have the scoreboard read LSU 52 Washington 0, in regards to the UW violations.

It is a shame for Michigan State to drop out of the "club", but only because they have 3 lower level D1-A teams in their state (Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan).

I firmly believe that all D1-A schools, especially those that are public, should play a lower division school in their same state. For instance, if Clemson plays Furman (located 45 minutes away) it allows for that money to stay in that immediate area, and to funnel the money back into that state's economy. For schools that receive state funding especially, I think it's only fair to the taxpayers that it happens at least once a season. For the schools that don't receive state funding, they should do it strictly to benefit their local area and its economy.

Now on the other hand, doing it more than once a year is a detriment to the schedule, and I really wish we (in particular) would stop.

That's a good damn idea, Joe. I wish I would have come up with that. I don't know that I would mandate it, but definitely strongly encourage the practice. And if not with lower level teams, at least with any non-BCS schools.

I'd like to see Auburn and Alabama give Troy a shot in the next few years. Of course, games like that are all risk, very little reward for the big boys. Win and no one cares. Lose and the world as you know it ends...

    Thanks.

I strongly agree about Troy. They are one of the dangerous ones out there. On one hand it's nice to schedule them, on the other hand playing them close or even losing to them would be a monumental disaster. Instead of taking on Troy, Auburn and Alabama should seriously consider scheduling Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Samford, and now maybe even North Alabama. Those schools could certainly use that $250,000 payout, or however much it is. Troy really doesn't seem to struggle to get the bigger schools to schedule them anyway.

VT and uva are encouraged to play in state i-aa schools,

vt has recently played, jmu, william & mary, furman, and florida a&m, they haven't stayed in state much, with only a few schools in i-aa, odu and radford are apparently getting teams, while i'd love to see a matchup with hampton and norfolk st

vt is not doing it this year (nebraska, bama, marshall, and ecu) for the first time since 2005 season, and matches the epic 2002 season matches against #14 lsu, at #19texas a&m, and #16marshall (with leftwich), we went 3-0 against 'em too, kyle field was very quiet that day

I'm not sure that the South Carolina government encourages or forces South Carolina and Clemson to do it, but both do anyway, and I think it's great. Come to think of it, most of the ACC schools do a pretty good job with it. Although I can't really think of a time that Miami has done it. I'm sure there are plenty of others. That's just the first one to come to mind.

For the record though, VTmechE, I meant for schools to play other schools in their same state, to keep those state tax dollars in the same state. So, your examples of Furman and FAMU don't count. However, VT has done well to match up with James Madison and William and Mary. Richmond is a respectable instate lower division program that would make for a decent game as well.

If memory serves, CJ, I was under the impression that Clemson had had some scheduling issues in the last few years with some teams having to back out, and that is the reason Clemson has had to sub in 2x FCS teams per season for a while...

    http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/future_sched...

There's only one (PC) on the docket for 2010.

You're right. We always play at least one in state school, and I love it.

Even with scheduling issues, we should try our hardest to not have 2 on the schedule. Even if that means we have to settle with the Idaho's of the world.

With 120 teams to play in what was once called Div-1A, I don't know how any BCS school's admin can't line up a "cupcake" or 2 on their respective schedule. Yet year after year even the schools with even the most prominent BCS teams do it. (As I've said before, don't blame the teams for this. While their respective coaches have plenty of input, even they don't finalize a schedule.) Yes, even WVU has done it, and quite frankly, it makes me sick.

Now, I like CJ's idea of trying to keep it in the state. It's one of the reasons I've encouraged Marshall/WVU every year. VTBobb's, Tech, or UVA would have to be careful. Furman has made some noise in the past; JMU has won a Div-1AA Championship, & Richmond (unmentioned) was once Div-1. In fact, there are a number of Div-2 squads which could consistently, in fact easily, compete in the existing Div-1 Top-60. The point is this: A Div-1 team, even a BCS team, runs the risk of being upset by a high ranking Div-2 upstart. Just ask Michigan.

Hey remember that time we played a school from Washington state that had an eastern in front of it? that the announcer accidentally called them eastern michigan during the game? the team that we scored on with FIVE DIFFERENT QUARTERBACKS!!! when by halftime slaton and white were already wearing sweatpants???? yaaaaaaaa that was a bad day in WVU scheduling....................

I hadn't seen a beating like that since they canceled Walker texas ranger!!

Best part of the game....ol' richy rod's qoute at the end of the game that he said.....while laughing......"ah think we pretty much played everyone who's ever worn a west virginia jersey...."
