Catholics Vs Baptist at Papa-Johns,Miller Lite, Ford Truck,Pepsi Cola,Acme Brick Jerry Jones Stadium ?
Maybe they'll even serve Papa John's pizza there this year...
Speaking of Irish (2)...I had a nice little glass of Bailey's Irish Cream (w/Mint) with a splash of a local Dairy's Egg Nogg last night at a friend's house after work...Damn I love my ethnicity...

That's odd. She didn't tell me she was married. And, just in case she's holdin' back on you, I had to pay her a whole lot more than $50. Maybe, you better have one of them little "heart to heart's" with her.

Don't confuse him with Gatorhippy, who has the shortest paragraphs of any poster...
Or Tomcat, who has NO paragraphs at all...
Good puns, though. :-)
See above where I actively recruited that Irish fan below. We just can't keep any ND lovers on here lately. What gives?
They haven't had much to cheer about lately. Can what happened to Notre Dame happen to Michigan?
Merry effing Festivus, Notre Dame. Once again, you have been treated better than you deserve.
Between FSU and Miami, the Gator Bowl should invite FSU if they want a sellout. FSU has a larger and more mobile fanbase than Miami.
I'd like to see them play a C-USA opponent like Houston or Rice. Or maybe Troy from Sun Belt
Too bad its gonna be a ACC team
If they face anybody from the top 25 it will be an embarassment
How many years of ND is rebuilding ?
triva question- how many years since the Irish won a Bowl?
What a catch, Gator Bowl reps!! A team that has lost the last nine times and would lose again. Now that's what is called real smart marketing. Short-term gains at best.
True, but....Notre Dame v. Miami--how could you turn that down? Notre Dame will fill the stadium, so you needn't worry about attendance.....and the combo would light up the ratings
nicely...
On that note: "...Once again, you [ND] have been treated better than you deserve..."
Nonsense. If the Gator Bowl with Notre Dame fails to sell out...if the GB/ND fails to move product--you'd be right. Until that happens, you can't say that, without betraying complete ignorance about the relationship between "deserve" and "bowls".
Does a 1 loss team that fails to make a bowl profitable "deserve" to be in a bowl?
...hell no...not if it's on your nickel. Too many of those, and whatever bowl it is, would no longer be.
GO GATORS!!
You can call me naive - and maybe I am - but ND has not yet demonstrated that they deserve this bowl invitation, The timing of this news alone suggests how desperate the Gator Bowl is to put butts in seats and they are showing little or no concern for the quality of play on the field.
One huge problem with my Miami scenario: they're going to be the ACC champs--especially after they stomp GT this weekend--so they won't be playing in the GB...
Hell, it's a Notre Dame thread--great place to pick a fight, right!
j/k...Good points, Maybe I came on a little strong on the money side--that was to make a point. For most bowls, there has to be a balance between product on the field, and ability to move product. Frankly, the lesser the bowl, the more weight goes to the latter, and vice/versa: the higher/more prestigious the bowl, the more weight on the former. Hence it stands to reason that the Gator Bowl being a lesser bowl, would focus on profitability.
GO GATORS!!
Dude, remind me not to bet on your picks.
....CRAP-burger in paradise...."
Didn't see that one coming...
GO GATORS!!
I'll be more excited to watch that game than Ralphie was when he got "Ole Blue" for Christmas!
Except for some bowls and conference champions, bowls are not locked into actual conference standings.
Unless the Big East has another bowl that picks first after the BCS I think your projection is dead on.
GO DAWGS!
We are soooooooooooo sorry, Mr/Ms NDame fan. Perhaps posting your fight song will encourage you to come back and visit us:
"Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame,
Wake up the deadbeats cheering her name,
Send a hollow cheer, "let's fight"
Shake down the Gator Bowl tonight!
What though the odds be none at all
Old Notre Dame has a lot of gall,
While her loyal sons are marching
Anywhere but victory."
For those serious fans who want to hum along with the words above:

This stings even more by the fact that the B12 took the bowl game last year, now ND, next year the B12 will probably take again. It's bullshit that ND is considered part of the BE for these bowl game when they don't even play the teams in the conference. With a few exceptions. I give them credit for Pitt but why do they refuse to play WVU?
God I hope Syracuse pulls off the upset of their year. Go Fighting Orangemen! (screw political correctness! damn girls getting their panties in a bunch! for those who don't know that's what their name was before the mighty PC bandwagon stepped in.)
Done, my friend, not that it'll make a darn bit-o-difference.
As for Miami or Florida State being the opponent for Notre Dame, how wise is that? Just read this morning that this past weekends nationally televised game on ABC between FSU and Boston College drew a whopping 4.5M viewers. That down almost 5.5M for the 10M average ABC had been getting for Saturday night football. FSU played a "home" game at the Gator Bowl against Colorado earlier this year and if you think the stadium has been empty for the ACC championship game, there was almost 40,000 more empty seats in Jacksonville to watch the Noles play in September than the "Cocktail Party" between Georgia and Florida.
And do we really think Miami is going to bring butts and eyeballs to the seats and screen for a 7-5 unranked Notre Dame contest?
Actually, and this is blasphemous as a UVA season ticket holder to say, but the Gator Bowl would do much better with Virginia Tech and Notre Dame which would probably sellout and draw a higher TV rating. But the Peach has first dips on the first non BCS ACC team and they will likely scoop up the Hokies.
As for Miami....I disagree...that would be a ratings bonanza.
GO GATORS!!
Thanks for the confirmation....think I'll promplty circulate this among some feller Gators to bait some 'noles with... I guess I shouldn't be too surprised though; a client recently offered me several GOOD FSU tix for a home game--pkg included; free of charge. I couldn't move them. 10+ calls to FSU "fans", and nothing... Didn't ask for a cent; FREE! Gratis! No charge! Nothing...and when I finally did get a taker--he called back to decline. Said he has a softball game that night, or something...the tix just sat there in a drawer...
I thought it was just a fluke...
...hmmmmmm....
GO GATORS!!
Miami on the other hand, has become much more consistent. What's more, Notre Dame's offense performs decently against pasny d's--not against good d's; Miami's D would shut their O down completely....and on the other side of the ball: a HS offense could score at will againd ND's defense. Robert Marve may not be Graham Harrel, but he's good enough to light that D up.
GO GATORS!!
I have hard feelings about the big east though and most of it stems from being 8 teams that range from so-so to so trashy that get an automatic BCS bid. If they had 12 teams and a championship game I'm sure I would have a different outlook. Memphis sure looks like a good fit if you dump seton hall, marquette, notre dame, georgetown, villanova etc. or perhaps encourage basketball only schools to transition to FBS such as Villanova and Georgetown (Georgetown has a long football history that includes trips to the Sun bowl and Orange bowl, yeah they suck now at FCS but look at duke, stanford, wake, rice etc.). Aside from that expanding with whoever looks best out of the MAC which seems to change often or picking up teams that offer new television markets (Central Michigan is all I can think of that could maybe compete enough and is sort of close). The two basketball schools I mentioned both are market expansions as well Maryland and PA. Conference could lobby to the respective state to help pay for facilities, is that unheard of? I know they are private schools. Ah well I am seriously digressing.
Too bad there is not a Lemon Bowl. Or, Irish Fans, it's too bad there is not a lemon law where you can turn back in a coaching hire that has gone bust!
It will be Nebraska vs Florida State in the Gator Bowl. Go Big Red.
What ND really needs is the Lemon Bowl. Or, Irish Fans, perhaps a lemon law with the option for turning back in a coach who has proven to be a BUST.
Nebraska vs Florida State in the Gator Bowl on Jan 1st. Go Big Red.
