    "Robinson out at Syracuse"

Where's WarEagleA when ya need him. I need a Top-10 most likely reaction to the title of this thread. Such as "Is anyone surprised" or "Well, it's about time". This man's system hasn't worked from day one; not to mention, he hasn't recruited for $hit since his arrival. I am truly sorry for the man that it didn't work out, but Syracuse tried him fair, and well...the rest is hiss-toe-reee.

I would like to see Syracuse rise back to prominance and be consistently competative in the Big East. I think Syracuse had better be moving fast, however. And, Skip Holtz, I don't think he's the ticket. JMO.

Syracuse has really sucked wind for the better part of this century--so much that they allowed Auburn to pass them on the all-time wins list into 13th place. I can't recall in recent memory them having this long a dry spell.

Zac, you thinking Rich Rod's ready for a Big East return? Nah. Me neither...

Orange(men)!! Come on down! You're the next contestant on the Lane Kiffin derby...
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Rich Rod & MI will bounce back in a big way next year. He'll get Coach of the Year, either in the Big-Televen, the country, or both for the bigest turn-around since the previous year. Mark me; a lot of teams that had fun beating MI this year will have vengence visited upon them the likes of which they've never seen. (Bet you guys thought I was gonna do a biblical thing, didn't ya.)

That said, I've mentioned Lane Kiffin as in not a good idea for Clemson. He might just be the ticket at Syracuse. Though, personally, I think I'd prefer his dad.

    Now, where's that Top-10 list?

How is lane kiffen not more of the same... A young robinson? Edsall and Addazio are the good choices for a team that wants to compete in the big east and can rebuild the orange's recruiting turf. Ty Willingham a good choice? I don't think so, maybe he would be a good fit and the man does have upsides but he doesn't quite seem to be a coach to turn a program around... having never really done it. I mean, I guess 2003 Notre Dame but that was his first year and could have just been residual momentum. He is 76-76-1 before this year where it appears he won't add anything to the win column (well assumedly WSU is coming up so...) and if you can't pull off a win against at least a couple Pac-10 teams in a year where they all look catastropically bad (except USC-west) I would say you are not a hot catch.

GRob got what was due to him, even though he will collect $1.1 million for his final year of a five year contract. Will finish his career with a 9 - 38 record and that has to be one of the worst all-time college records in the modern era.

My choices in order to replace GRob are as follows:
    1) Edsall - UConn (SU Alum)
    2) Gill - Buffalo
    3) Peterson - Boise State
    4) Marrone - NO Saints (SU Alum)
    5) Addazio - Florida (Former SU coach)

9-38 (***if*** that is how he finishes) is sadly not even approaching the worst all-time records of the modern era.

I think we gotta define "modern era". I also think you're right.

That's an intriguing list. There are 2 schools of thought in coaching: Go after someone with lots of experience or go after someone who's young and will provide consistency and longevity. The flaw with the later thought is this: If he turns out to be real good, unless you're paying him real well (and that doesn't always work), you're likely to lose him to a bigger faltering program.

Try these on for size. In the "experienced" category, I give you…

    1) Vandy's, Bobby Johnson (Nuff said.)
2)TCU's, Gary Patterson (l think he's a lifer at TCU.)
    3) Troy's, Larry Blakeney (Southern man; probably prefers it there.)
    4) Tulsa's, Todd Graham (Not as experienced, but has it going!)
    5) Ball St's, Brady Hoke (6 years at Ball, ready for a change?)

In the young, eager, and gots lotsa go-get-em-ness, I give you…

    1) C MI's, Butch Jones (Got potential written all over him.)
    2) NW's, Pat Fitzgerald (Position coach who found a home?)
    3) W MI's, Bill Cubit (May come, but will he stick around long?)
    4) Rice's, David Bailiff (Can he turn the corner?)
    5) AFA's, Troy Calhoun (Some success in college & NFL.)

If you're gonna go after Bosie's, Chris Peterson, you have to consider UT's, Kyle Whittingham.

These are just a few of the good ones out there. The point is, who would be the best fit for Syracuse? I'm still not certain Edsall is it, but, as stated above, Kiffin might be.

"I would love to see SU hire Ty Willingham, but Ty's (undeservedly) soiled reputation might put him on the untouchable list."

Right, because Willingham has been so successful in his last two head coaching stints. Willingham has earned every bit of his reputation.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
Ty Willingham was 21-15 in his 3 years (minus one game) at ND. Charlie Weissburger was 22-15 in his first three years there. Since Charlie has been deemed such a success by their AD, one has to believe that the 22nd win was pretty darned important.

Ty's record at UW is a different story, altogether.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Yeah, Willingham had a very successful first year, and after that his records got progressively worse. Another thing that doesn't help is Notre Dame's schedule is too weak. That goes for Weiss, too.

I believe Uconn's Randy E is going to SU
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I believe that you are dead on about that. We'll have to wait and see if it comes to fruition though.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
If it happens that way, at least there's still a decent list to choose from. But, they better hurry, the list is getting short, and it's getting there FAST!!!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Absolutely. I certainly don't think Syracuse is in a position to pick who they want right now. With all of the current openings in the country, I wouldn't even put them in the top 3. I might put them at #4 above Kansas State though.

I got a bud who's from Upstate and a lifelong Orangeman fan. He almost broke out into tears when he heard the great news. I was actually watchin' as the guy said, "Yeahaaaaaaa"! He's also a New York Jet fan. So, he's definately rollin' now. Problem is: Tennessee is gonna beat that Jet azz right back into oblivion this coming weekend. But, hey, let the guy dream. He still thinks that "The Cuse" is gonna return to the glory days of Ernie Davis, Jim Brown and Larry Csonka. Man, what a dreamer! They'd be doin' great just to get up to the level of Army. What a waste.

Brian Kelly is going to Tennessee
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I'd hate to see that happen, but if it does, I wonder if Butch Jones will go to Cinci?
