Fanblogs.com: Saints Marrone to be introduced as Orange coach

Damnit Syracuse! I was really hoping that you would actually get someone major since the BE needs you to be back in your prime again. Cincy winning is a good feel good story, the BE though needs to have some of the originals come back though. (Preferably ones who own National Championships).

Yea this one doesn't help the BE. SU will be an inter- and intra-conference doormat for at least another year or two, and depending on how Marrone works out, this could be a dark decade for SU football.

On a side note, I really feel this is the time the BE needs to make a move and reestablish some national credibility. In my opinion, I think the BE is one of the toughest conferences in the nation because (unlike the Big10, Pac10) there is parity throughout, save SU and UofL.

There are not many options for the BE to improve vertically (ie power) so it should improve horizontally (ie expansion). Invite 4 schools - Memphis, UCF, Navy and UAB or ECU - and blunders like Robinson's era at SU won't seem so important to the BE's reputation.

I disagree with you for those who know Orange football, the upside with Marrone is tremendous. Cuse has talented players on hand and Marrone needs to hire two quality coordinators, similar to what Pat Fitzgerald did at NW this past year, hiring a new OC & DC and finishing 9 - 3. I can guarantee that with Orgeron coming aboard, recruiting in PA & NJ will greatly improve.

Sujet, I'm all for giving a man a chance. And, lets face it, if he interviewed the best and made the biggest/best impression upon SU's admin, fine with me. But to sit there and say, "Marrone needs to hire two quality coordinators, similar to what Pat Fitzgerald did at NW this past year, hiring a new OC & DC and finishing 9 - 3," as if it'll happen, that's dream'n big time.

Look at the talent WVU had on offence this year. New HC, Bill Stewart, put together a decent staff and snagged a decent recruiting class. Wake Forest's, Jeff Mullen, was proven as an OC before he came to WVU. The Mountaineers went from being one of the Top-5 rushing teams in the country to barely mediocre. They went from scoring almost 40 pts/gm to less than 20. Talent or not, if Marrone is gonna do the Orange any good, it's gonna take time. Don't expect miracles in one year. Much as I'd like to see it happen, I'm thinking not likely.

Hold on this might not be true yet?

This is an excellent hire by the Orange. The NO Saints are the #1 offensive in the NFL this year. In addition, the Saints were #1 in 2006 and #4 in 2007 under Marrone. He bleeds Orange, has ties to Northeast recruiting and will assemble a great staff. Heard Ed Orgeron will be the DC and that would be a great addition to Marrone's staff.

I disagree. This is a risky hire and I cannot understand why the Orange would go with him. Sure he has the coaching ability, Orange blood and a passion for the game. However, hires from the NFL have no proof of an ability to recruit (unless they have coached at the college level previously). The unfortunate truth, as most people know, is that coaching success on the pro level does not necessarily (and often doesn't) transfer to the college level.

What SU needs more than anything right now is someone to bring hope to the program and quality recruiting. Yes, the hiring of Marrone brings the first (as most higher-profile hires do) but there is no proof of quality recruiting. He won't be able to transform an offense if he doesn't have anything to work with.

Bottom line: SU should have stuck with a coach it knew would bring in quality recruits. I know Orgeron can recruit but sucks as a coach (see Ole Miss), so hopefully this hire will work out of the Orange. But I have to agree with Kevin - not the best hire.

Being a loyal <del>glutton for punishment</del> New Orleans Stains Fan, I can tell you guys one thing...

Being Sean Payton's OC is alot like being Steve Spurrier's OC when he was at Florida...

Sean Payton built the offense, drafted and signed all the players for it, gameplans and schemes it, and calls the plays on Sundays...

Let's hope this guy is the real deal...

At least they didn't go with Skip Holtz. I honestly didn't think he'd be good for The Cuse.
