Congrats Bleed, your team showed alot of heart in that win. Proved me wrong, great win in that hostile envirement. Also congrats to Ben and the Utes, and...........................................HOW BOUT THEM TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS. KEEP EM ON UPSET ALERT. WE SHALL NOT FALL!!!!!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Somehow Texas Tech does not inspire the same BCS hatred that Oklahoma or Texas does.

In a typical year Tech and Utah would be seen as near equal, yet Utah would be seen as in the running for the MWC title and Tech for a left over bowl spot in the Big 12.

The irony that Tech is really the type of BCS team I should hate more, yet I don't, is not lost on me.
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
The mighty Texas Tech raiders will fall in Norman, mark it down. Ever since Stoops took over in 1999, only two teams have won in Norman. The combined point total for both of those teams wins against the Sooners was 10 points. The Red Raiders are going down.....

    BOOMER!
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
I have never seen an offense execute like this team's. Our O is an absolute juggernaut.
  • chopper · 1 year ago
Everyone forgets that Tech should have lost to Nebraska a few weeks ago.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
Yeah we should have lost to NU, we should have lose to Texas, and we should have lost to Kansas and OK state................

You tortilla-throwing guys were saying that nin 2005, then Bama shut you down in the Cotton Bowl...

    Will it happen again???
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
Do not get me started with that game, one of the weirdest games I have ever watched. Your defense was sick that year, but your first TD was void, and the final field goal was kicked off your own helmet. lol.
  • NMLSooner · 1 year ago
You'll get to see another one in 2 weeks.

Congrats to the Red Raiders Tyler. Those boys are still clicking. I hope they can run it out the back. Without looking, who do you guys have left on your schedule?

  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
Thx OU_Ron. Where is the game vs the Sooners? I could look all this up but.....ah what the hell. I'm going look it up.

Nice win yesterday, btw. It appears somebody at A&M forgot to tell the Sooners about the vaunted Kyle Field...lol.

Thanks GT, someone said at the end of the game that 66 points by a visiting school at ATM's stadium was a record, I think someone must have told Stoops what TC's prediction was LOL.........we play TT in Norman Okla, it's going to be a tough game, hopefully we can send the Zoro's home with a loss.....

"Michigan State looks significantly more likely to win the Big 10 with Penn State's loss to Iowa, but would still need Ohio State to lose to either Illinois or Michigan."

How do you figure that? Although Michigan State has a bye week and Penn State has Indiana coming up, they still have to play against each other and that game is in Happy Valley. Penn State is still sitting quite firmly in the driver's seat. If OSU wins out (a very good possibility with Illinois and Michigan on the schedule) and MSU beats PSU, guess what? OSU and MSU are tied, and OSU blew them out 45-7 at their place.

If PSU beats Indiana and MSU, a very likely scenario, it's all over, even if OSU wins out due to head-to-head results.
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
The Buckeyes can't afford to look past the Illini or Michigan. Those are both rivalry games. Theres bad blood between Tressel and Zook because of recruiting. The Illini went in to Columbus and won last year and spoiled the buckeyes perfect season. Though Mendenhall isnt with them anymore they still have weapons such as Arelious Benn And The Juiceman. Im not saying the Illini will win, but it isnt a game you want to over look. The Michigan game is a little different. Michigan has nothing to lose. This will be the last game for seniors such as Terrence Taylor, Morgan Trent, and Brandon Graham, do to the fact we will not be attending a bowl game. Rodriguez needs this win also. If he could beat the Bucks he might be able to redeem himself with the alumni and media. The problem is the this game is in Columbus. I cant see Tressel losing this game at home. But as a Michigan fan i still have hope.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Nobody's looking past these games. However, you can't deny that both Illinois and Michigan are absolutely terrible this year. Keep in mind, I said "a very good possibility", not "a guarantee".

What's glaringly obvious to me is with The Juiceman and Benn, Illinois lost to Western Michigan, and Michigan got beat by Toledo this year.

So, let's keep things in proper perspective, shall we?
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
Im not denying that michigan and illinois are not at their greatest this year. its a tuff year for michigan. tressel prepares his team for games better than anyone in the league but none the less it is a rivalry game. i dont know what illinois excuse was for losing to western but michigan has an excuse. the spread. you cant(as an educated college football fan) expect a coach to bring in a spread to a program who has been known as one of the most traditonal style teams in CFB. Michigan vs. OSU is the greatest rivalry in football. THe Mich D-line is going to finish those tackles the Northwestern wildcats could not. Beanie is a monster. TP is a monster. Theres no denying that. But anything can happen in these games. And i always love how buckeye fans play the App state and Toledo cards whenever a Mich fan brings up a good point. This rivalry is a rollorcoster. It goes up and down. You just happen to be on top at the moment. We still lead the series. Still have more championships, more overall wins, and the most televisied games. oh and by the way, Rich Rod's record his first year at WVU was 3-8. the next year it was 9-3. so please dont get exicited.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
"Rich Rod's record his first year at WVU was 3-8. the next year it was 9-3. so please dont get exicited."

I certainly hope Michigan will be much better next year. I think you're mistaking my optimism for the Buckeyes chances this year as a hope that Michigan will never be a force to reckon with again. On the contrary, a strong Michigan program and a strong OSU program fuels the rivalry and is great for college football.

If OSU doesn't bring their A game to either game it'll definitely be a struggle.

    GO BUCKS!!!
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
Ahh like back in '06. that was beautiful. Just a personal foul away from a win for the Wolvies. I do think that there should have been a rematch for the Championship. If the #2 loses to the #1 by a field goal those are appropriate rankings. Who else should be #2 other than the team who loses to the #1 by 3. And the game was in the "shoe".
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
"Just a personal foul away from a win for the Wolvies."

I can play that what-if game, too. Your team was getting spanked. The score was much closer than the game really was, due to Tressel letting off the accelerator late in the game.

Then both teams got throttled in the bowl games, so it seems they weren't actually the #1 and #2 teams that year.
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
Now Now tressel does not "let off the throttle" against michigan. Im not playing what if just stating a a fact. I accept we lost that game. But we played hard. Ha we were not getting spanked that game was close all along.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
You must've been watching a different game. Your team was down 2 scores and Tressel went into "run the clock" mode. That's a fact. Your team got a late TD and then had to employ an onside kick in order to have any prayer of tying or winning. Any time a team employs an onside kick, the game really isn't in doubt, nor is it close. You keep dreamin', though.
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
grinding out the clock and "letting off the throttle" are two different things. when u choose to run out the clock u take the chance of the other team getting the ball back and scoring. which is shat we did. the final was 42-39 thats close bottomline. look what grinding out the clock earned you against illinois last year. ur lucky we didnt do the same in 06.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
"look what grinding out the clock earned you against illinois last year. ur lucky we didnt do the same in 06."

You're out of your mind. Illinois had control of last year's game throughout, so OSU didn't "grind clock". And yes, "grinding clock" and "letting off the throttle" are one and the same. Again, you were 2 scores down very late in '06 and had no chance of winning. Luck had nothing to do with it. That's the bottom line.
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
no the bottom line is we lossed so im done reminiscing about that game. i thought it was a beautiful game.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
"i thought it was a beautiful game."

I agree. It was definitely a game in which, no matter who won, will be a classic and will be talked about for a long, long time.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
what are you talking about mayday?????? Those rankings were obviously not correct because you lost to OHIO STATE WHO GOT KILLED BY FLORIDA. Please think before you post mayday.
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
They were not right after the game NC game was played.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Ok, that statment is misleading. Penn State looks significantly more vulnerable now on paper.

Penn State is still the most likely to win, then Ohio State, then Michigan State. Michigan State's odds are now higher than they werre last week and a three way tie can not happen.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
OK, now I'm with you! :-)
  • FSU_fan · 1 year ago
Tom, Significantly more likely then they were at the start of the year.... They actually have a shot at it which is not something most people suspected. He isn't saying significantly more likely then penn state just significantly more likely then anyone really thought they would be at this point. At least that is how I read it.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Well, given the entire sentence, that's not how I read it. Maybe it was a poorly worded sentence.

    Thoughts for the day...

Georgia Tech was exposed by UNC. Not for having a one-dimensional offense, but rather for being a very young, mistake-prone team. The Jackets looked yesterday very much like I would have imagined them looking from the beginning of this season. If it weren't for all the parity/weakness in the ACC this season, GT would have more than three losses at this point.

Matthew Stafford continues to impress me with his maturity and leadership. Without him, the dawgs lose to Kentucky yesterday. He kept his team focused during a relentless Wildcat attack throughout the game.

Florida's first team (offsense, defense, + special teams) is the best in the country. USC has comparable talent yet looked anemic against Cal. Florida's second team is a pretty big drop-off in talent from the first team.

My thanks to LSU and Bama for providing one of the most entertaining games of this season. My hats off to Bama for coming up with the win in a tough environment and against a determined team.
  • blackdawg · 1 year ago
RG: I believe the UGA/GT game will be a tight one. I'm not sure Martinez will be able to out scheme Johnson. Our defense is very suspect, out of position, poor tackling, we were beat on the edge all day. If you take Curran out of the play you beat our defense. Stafford and MoMass, both had a big days. I sound, more an more, like what I hate (an obnoxious, expert, wannabe O.C.) I wish Stafford would throw fewer deep passes and more mid range passes. Even though we are scoring enough points, if we score quick or we are three and out, and we put our defense out on the field. They do need the practice, but I would rather see them resting on the sideline. The best offense for our team is one that produces long, clock eating, drives. Our defense plays better if they are watching our offense.

With that said, I have to admit, we are and were overrated. I can't believe, our special teams, and our defense. Coach Richt gave examples of FSU losing to Miami opening day costing them the National Championship, and how our players needed to stay grounded. We have way too many holes to even think that we had a shot. We've got a great coach, wouldn't even think of replacing him, but I think we still have a glaring blind spots. I hope that Richt is still learning his craft and we will improve and not have anymore suprises.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
I have to agree about Stafford in the middle distance passes. MoMass is looking hot and AJ Green is flat out awesome. Stafford does need to resist the urge to throw long, especially when under pressure.

I wish I were more optimistic about the UGA/GT game. I'd have to put my money on UGA in that game. Wish we weren't looking at 8 straight losses in this series, but I don't see it playing out any other way. Next year looks like a possible win for GT, depending largely on the NFL aspirations of UGA's skill players.
  • blackdawg · 1 year ago
Congrats, by the way, on winning the east. UF looks really strong, I'm looking forward to the seeing UF and AL matchup.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
Thanks! I guess one of the virtues of being a fan of multiple teams is the increased likelihood that (at least) one of them will be playing well. Right, Regan? ;-)
  • MAYDAY13 · 1 year ago
i give paul johnson alot of credit for being able to bring the spread in and still being able to get a decent amount of wins. This is very hard to do. Look at Rich Rod's crappy job in bringing in the spread. It doesnt hurt to have Nesbit or Dwyer in the backfeild tho.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
Thanks - I'm a big fan of CPJ. It's a nice change for me as I was never a fan of George O'Leary or Chan Gailey. Rich Rod is a good coach and I'm certain he will turn it around in Ann Arbor.

Sam @ BCS Guru is predicting the following:

    1. Alabama, 2. Texas Tech, 3. Texas, 4. Florida, 5. Oklahoma, 6. Penn State, 7. USC, 8. Utah, 9. Ohio State, 10. Boise State, 11. Oklahoma State, 12. Georgia, 13. Missouri, 14. Michigan State, 15. Brigham Young.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
For once I beat the GURU with Penn State.

We both missed Ball State and I missed Michigan State, though I had said they could be in the mix.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
There are a couple of SEC scenarios that -- while not probable -- would definitely send the SEC fans into a BCS tizzy

    - FSU defeats UF, who beats Alabama in the SECCG. Neither UF or UA get slotted in NCG.
    - Auburn/Miss St defeats UA, who beats UF in SECCG... and neither get the NCG.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Those scenarios looks good to me !! ;-)
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
    Cut that out!!

If it can't be my team going for the shot....I gotta pull for the other SEC boys to make it. I'm thinking Florida would represent us the best at this point, with the way they're playing.

  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
I just want big 12 champ and SEC champ in the title game. That is the way it should be. No one can tell me USC deserves to play in the big game with the way they have played in their last 2 games.

GT: I really thought you had bama. Your guys played really hard. It is a shame your QB played the way he did, Still good game though.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
The only way the Big 12 champ does not get in is if Missouri upsets someone in the championship game.
  • Skip · 1 year ago
I think Alabama would still make the BCS championship if they fall to Auburn and beat Florida in the SEC title game. Voters will think that losing the Iron Bowl is not as bad as losing to Oregon State and USC doesn't have much strength of schedule in their remaining games.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Late season losses are killers - just ask Penn State.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
If Alabama loses to Auburn then beats Florida it would be a Big 12 vs Big 12 match up. Alabama would be below the Texas Tech vs Oklahoma winner and Texas.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Wasn't that my second paragraph? Basically if both Alabama and Florida lose it will be a Big 12 south rematch for the title.

    Wait.

What if Alabama and Florida both lose and Missouri upsets whoever and two big 12 south teams are #1 and #2, but neither are the champion Missouri? I think the Big 12 champion gets left out in that case, as the #1 vs #2 is listed above the championship rule, and only two teams from any conference are eligible.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Ben, that makes my head hurt....
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 1 year ago
OU_Ron: I'd love to play you guys in the Cotton. It would be one helluva match-up though I do see us as the underdog as long as Stagger Lee is our starting QB. And frankly, that'll probably be the case because the youngster in Jordan Jefferson apparently isn't ready. I have to believe this because if he was ready, Miles would have him in there. I think it's a winable (is that a word?) game for us, but it'll require mistake-free football because OU will give us their best, I"m sure. Stoops hasn't forgotten about 2003 and would love to avenge that.

Tyler: It was a great game to watch. It kept us on the edge of our seats. There was some hard hitting going on and when we blocked the field goal attempt at the end to send it to overtime, I was 90% sure we would win, based on the Tide's ineffective kicking game. We just needed to put points on the board in OT, but Stagger Lee would rather roll out and try to fit the ball in between two defenders who had excellent coverage on our WR. Another bone head decision. When he sets his feet, he makes nice throws. Alot of zip on the ball, fairlly accurate. But 85% of the time, he's going off his back foot or trying to throw on the run. If he can hang around for two more years, I think he'll be dangerous...in a good way. It's just gonna be alot of suffering between now and then.

GT, I have to say your are correct that your QB loves to chunk it into double coverage, but I blame your coaches for calling the play. At that point, you had the momentum, you have one of the best backs in the SEC in Scott and the coaches decide to let SirPickedAlot throw it. I could not believe that crap. Just pound it off tackle and get 3 if you don't score a TD with the run.

Anyway, here's to MS St or AU beating Bama and then Florida just crushing them in the SEC championship game. That way if the DAWGS hold on and win out (very questionable after what I saw yesterday), we get an invite to the Sugar as the only other SEC team in the Top 12.

    GO DAWGS!!

    Thoughts on Saturday:
*Texas Tech is the number one team in the nation. Their performance last night solidifies this. And if Stoops wants to do anything about this, he will realize he needs to play a 3-2-6. blitzing the linebackers when necessary.
*Florida is better than Alabama. I was not impressed with Bamas performance one bit. Even though that game had alot of intangibles they are still the #1 team in the nation and should have won by a larger margin.
*OSU is the best team in the Big Ten. They impressed me with a big win over Northwestern, That is how you put away a team.
*Michigan has finally done it! Rich Rod won a rivalry game. Good job boys. 2 weeks!
    *Biggest surprise-Wyoming over Tennessee
*Biggest upset- Western Michigan over Illinois
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I'm just saying it is a good thing those SEC teams get to play teams like Tennesse week in and week out instead of stiff compitition like Wyoming.
